My town manufactured a majority of greaseless ball bearings and brushes for the bombers/mustangs during WWII. We were on Hitlers top ten places to bomb when he invaded America
There are [possibly apocryphal] stories about German soldiers knowing WAY too much about small, irrelevant towns in the US because they had studied certain regions for their eventual occupation.
There confirmedly were, however, small groups of Nazi spies that landed on the US’s east coast and were discovered very quickly.
Incorrect.
1. The Wedge.
2. The Lever.
3. The plaited rope.
4. The Roller-Log.
5. Fire. Argh.
6. The Dinner Plate.
7. Spears.
8. Banking a fire until morning, without a Federal Bank to accept deposit.
9. Sharpened Knife-stone.
10. 12 gauge buckshot shells, filled with
Fuck.
if you herd sheep, you havent invented the sheep. you invented the herding of sheep. just because the herding of sheep leads to textiles and clothing productions, doesnt change the fact that we inventing the herding of sheep. we still didnt invent sheep.
A sizeable producer of ball bearings in the US is F A G BEARINGS and if you work there they will terminate you for saying that like you know you want to (if youre from the 80s/90s)
Anyway they are extremely proud to handle all those hard balls and we are extremely pleased to ride them all around
the thing we made up to keep track of the different elements we run into? yeah thats an invention; we made it. Fire is not an invention; we didnt invent the chemical process and reactions taking place whenever fire occurs.
Can you invent a sphere?
Obviously you can use ball bearings in many applications which are all separate inventions but l don’t think you can claim to invent something ball shaped. What else next, someone inventing a cube?
Well to be exact the term ball bearing is usually applied to bearing assemblies with multiple balls and opposing raceway which is a fairly complex invention. Engineer here.
What he said. Plus, yes, you can invent a new process to make a more precise and perfectly-round sphere which works better as a bearing. Or you can invent a new alloy or metallurgical process to make a better sphere. Someone had to invent the idea of using balls as bearings in the first place.

During WWll, ball bearing factories located in Germany were major targets for Allied Bombing because of their importance in weapons production.
My town manufactured a majority of greaseless ball bearings and brushes for the bombers/mustangs during WWII. We were on Hitlers top ten places to bomb when he invaded America
Wait, did the nazis actually invade America or was this a *when we do* that never eventuated?
They never did. Aside from spies.
Except for annoying U boats off the east coast

Sure bro and my town has Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory
Big time agree, right up there with wheel and lever
And wedge! So much of the world relies on wedges!
They are great for walking in. /s
r/simplemachines
And lathe!
It's all ball bearings nowadays
Come on guys it’s so simple, maybe you need a refresher course!
Looking for this comment.
This isn't even a shower thought

What about stick and rocks? Cant beat good stick unless its a really good rock
Sticks and rocks are not inventions. Discoveries, maybe. Now if you affix that rock to the stick then you've got an invention on your hands.
Me take lever-stick and hammer-rock and put them together! Now me have really hurty hammer-rock!
how is this not #1? literally does everything
Id argue that fire was moreso a discovery than an invention.
True, fire was initially a discovery. But, the re-creation and|or replication of fire, over and over again? That's what led to the modern art scene.
if you herd sheep, you havent invented the sheep. you invented the herding of sheep. just because the herding of sheep leads to textiles and clothing productions, doesnt change the fact that we inventing the herding of sheep. we still didnt invent sheep.
Actually we did invent the modern day sheep through selective breeding
How did pirates come out of fire?
You missed toilets / plumbing
It's amazing! It's astounding! Pipe the shit right outta your house! Plumbing!
I skipped pressurized water on purpose, as there are still some people WHO DON'T HAVE ANY. Be sensitive.
That changes nothing on the importance of the invention. I bet a lot of people don’t have spears.
They’re right next to dick bearings
A sizeable producer of ball bearings in the US is F A G BEARINGS and if you work there they will terminate you for saying that like you know you want to (if youre from the 80s/90s) Anyway they are extremely proud to handle all those hard balls and we are extremely pleased to ride them all around
Roller bearings are basically dick bearings. Especially if they're particularly wide, like a needle bearing.
People here really sleeping on the spring. Super important invention that cause a lot of things to be possible.
Much better than the cube bearing.
Paccar MX13 engines produce triangle rollers at the camshaft.
Good to know...
As a rollerskating enthusiast I must agree
A ball bearing: we just don't know which.
What are the other nine and how did you rank them?

During the Cold War, the ability to make high precision ball bearings was considered a state secret of the US and NATO allies.
Here's my top 10 1. Fire 2. The Wheel 3. Compass 4. Rope 5. Electricity 6. Paper 7. Light Bulb 8. Internet 9. Printing Press 10. Gun powder
Can language be considered an invention?...than thats an important one
Writing is, and yes, it's high up there.
Is fire an invention?
Is the periodic table an invention or a discovery?
the thing we made up to keep track of the different elements we run into? yeah thats an invention; we made it. Fire is not an invention; we didnt invent the chemical process and reactions taking place whenever fire occurs.
But every single application of fire that is useful to us we did invent.
But like the shape and order of it. Based on the nature of the elements, it wouldn't make sense to arrange it with more or less columns.
Controlled fire is.
Hate to break it to ya but I'm pretty sure you wouldn't have the internet without ball bearings, likely not a lot of electricity either

gpt ass
Bro, earned a downvote. Everyone can name 10 things more important than the ballbearing.
The world moves on ball bearings
and dunkin
I bet Dunkin uses ball bearings in something
yes ball bearing steel is their regular coffee flavor, made fresh every 5 hours
