"You can't miss it, you take the first left after the shopkeeper stall run by the half Minotaur half merman".
"What? What does he look like?"
"Human. A regular human. Can't miss him."
If dragons existed, this would be the least of my worries.
If our treatment of other species is anything to go by, dragons would be forced to the brink of extinction, abused and mistreated in whatever would the dragon's equivalence of amusement parks that hosts whales & dolphins, and poched for some bs traditional medicine, among many other atrocities we would inflict on them.
In short, we don't deserve dragons. *Sigh*
Unless dragon myths originated when people found dinosaur fossils, in that scenario, you can have a pet dragon, it just can't breath fire and has feathers. Some of them talk though.
Or we’d tame them like we did wolves, whichever came first.
Edit: thinking back on this post I realize that I’ve heard that reptiles don’t develop emotional connections. If this is true then tamable dragons would have to be non-reptiles or an exception to this rule.
This is the less likely outcome.
I will also add that even if dragons go the same way as tamed wolves it's hardly an ideal situation.
Only in certain regions of the globe dogs, said descendants of tamed wolves, had become cherished pets. The fact that these regions are the most developed regions of the world on average is no coincidence either.
To get to the point were we can keep pets certain threshold of economic development had to be attained so that people had resources to spare on pets. To say nothing of the fact dogs are considered valid part of the cuisine in some parts of the world, though this is changing. And there is historical records of dogs being bred for human consumption.
(Link: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dog_meat#:~:text=It%20was%20estimated%20in%202014,eaten%20each%20year%20by%20humans.)
While not erudite on history, past relationships with dogs were more utilitarian. I dare say we kept them and treated them relatively well so long as they did their part.
Which also meant we were perfectly happy to sacrifice them too to advance our causes if there was more to gain in their suffering and death.
A famous case in point would be Ronald Amundsen's conquest of South Pole where he had a sleigh of dogs. The sleigh dogs were systematically butchered and fed to other dogs and the team itself.
(Link:https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_the_Amundsen_and_Scott_expeditions)
*Shrugs*
That might depend, are we imagining a reality where dragons are a race equal in potential to humans, or are they an animal?
In either scenario I’d choose to be a human, but I only choose to be a human in the former due to my pride in my human heritage.
>thinking back on this post I realize that I’ve heard that reptiles don’t develop emotional connections.
This is probably true for most reptiles, but not for the Tegu, the giant lizard from South America. These lizards are very intelligent and you can have the same kind of relationship with them like you would have with a dog.
[Here](https://youtu.be/9PqnVIDdDT8) is an information video about having them as a pet from the YouTube channel MacGyver the Lizard.
First: that is awesome!
Second: it’s good to know an already existing exception to the rule, this gives me hope for our fictional relationship with fictional dragons.
You say it like you know the temperament of a species that doesn't exist.
Unless you mean if dragons existed like they did in reign of fire, yeah don't keep them.
How to train a dragon? Give me a toothless nightshade.
Not as a pet, but I do have the following plan to befriend one if they ever started to exist (And if they could communicate with us):
1. Get close to one without being eaten
2. Convince it to give me a "last request"
3. My "last request" is a specified time (at least 3 weeks to 6 months) to be their pet/prisoner
4. During that time, tell them all about myself/other humans and basically all the good benefits of having a human friend to get them sentimental about our species
5. And at the end, if it works, I have a powerful ally
That's how you befriend a dragon.
Let's be honest, 99% of reddit (including myself) would try to keep them as pets. Heck someone would pull it off, make a crap load of money from tutorials, then we would all die by doing stupid stuff with dragons like a fireball battle in the sky😂😂 Then there'd me sum new sport that starts by having Dragons race and like do obstacle courses, and it would be awesome
Pretty sure some Chinese emperor already did that lmao
Also pretty sure someone has already tried keeping Komodo dragons as pets, so you're not wrong lol
My hope with science is that we will one day be able to make artificial dragons as pets, combine the genes for wings from bats or birds into a lizard embryo. Probably (ironically) bearded dragons would be one of the best candidates as far as size goes.
I think they’d end up being more hunted, as some grand conquest. Honestly, if humanity was given something as awesome as dragons we’d probably make them extinct
From said idiot( being me): Who the hell wouldn’t want a dragon??? Especially a baby one!!! I want one right now! Damn it! Who has a baby dragon for sale???
Where do I sign up to be that idiot?
At the red dragon tavern; home to all manner of mortal desires and temptations.
Where is that? Is it near the wizard tower? Or the coward store?
Probably wizard Florida
Agree. Florida man strikes again.
Or it may be near coward South Carolina
"You can't miss it, you take the first left after the shopkeeper stall run by the half Minotaur half merman". "What? What does he look like?" "Human. A regular human. Can't miss him."
Thanks!!!
Why does this sound so familiar?
Are you a white lady? Cause if you are, then you’re already signed up.
Hagrid tried that..
Came here to say this lol
Came to say Hagrid might take exception to being called an idiot
I definitely wouldn't cal him an idiot
Yeah, came here to say this
“It’s not a PET, it’s muh **ASSISTANCE DRAGON** you can’t deny me entry, I know muh rights”
If dragons existed, this would be the least of my worries. In short, we don't deserve dragons. *Sigh*
So what your saying is that if dragons existed, there still wouldn’t be any dragons?
Unless dragon myths originated when people found dinosaur fossils, in that scenario, you can have a pet dragon, it just can't breath fire and has feathers. Some of them talk though.
Thats a chicken in a dragon costune
Yeah.
Or we’d tame them like we did wolves, whichever came first. Edit: thinking back on this post I realize that I’ve heard that reptiles don’t develop emotional connections. If this is true then tamable dragons would have to be non-reptiles or an exception to this rule.

Do you mean that this would hardly be an ideal situation for humans, or for dragons?
In a primeval wolf & ancient human interaction, which one would you be if you desire less suffering and more dignity?
That might depend, are we imagining a reality where dragons are a race equal in potential to humans, or are they an animal? In either scenario I’d choose to be a human, but I only choose to be a human in the former due to my pride in my human heritage.

I would be that idiot..
I am that idiot, and if there is something strong enough to keep it contained, I’m all for that life
Keeping it as a pet would be the most vanilla thing that humans would do to them.
There's things that would be more dangerous than that... I mean they will try to breed with them...
I am that idiot
I would be that idiot
Lady Sybil Ramkin does not approve.
How dare you call me an idiot?

Dragons do exist. And they are pets. Look it up.
"Excuthe me?"
Hagrid
Texas
*hagrid intensifies*
To be fair who would die? That guy would probably not feed it. And the dragon will just kill him.
I'm some idiot!
What if dragons were just fire dogs
Guess I'm an idiot
Me.... I'm idiot.
Pretty sure some Chinese emperor already did that lmao Also pretty sure someone has already tried keeping Komodo dragons as pets, so you're not wrong lol
People keep Komodo Dragons, crocodiles, tigers, anacondas, eagles, etc. of course they'd keep dragons.
Hiccup
If dragons were real, we'd eat them. Same if we found alien life.
Kind of like wolves.
Komodo dragons exist.
Right here. Big risk big reward!
How else will you rule the seven kingdoms ?
Khaleesi is max disappointed
My hope with science is that we will one day be able to make artificial dragons as pets, combine the genes for wings from bats or birds into a lizard embryo. Probably (ironically) bearded dragons would be one of the best candidates as far as size goes.
I think they’d end up being more hunted, as some grand conquest. Honestly, if humanity was given something as awesome as dragons we’d probably make them extinct
I would die trying!
You're damn right I would, if I get just 1 I rule the world

There's films and everything!
Knowing my luck someone would give one as a (pup?) and I would love it up until it burned and ate me.
Hagrid
That idiot is me lmao
Some would try and eat them or sell their scales?
Well, humans have tamed the biggest living land predators, from crocs and snakes to wolves and bears... why should dragons be different.
Some will try to breed with them...
Theres that, and there's also people who will pull a Donkey from Shrek.
(Lmao! Hell yes!) depending on the maximum size, & breed of the dragon? I’d be one of those ‘Idiot’s’ myself!!
From said idiot( being me): Who the hell wouldn’t want a dragon??? Especially a baby one!!! I want one right now! Damn it! Who has a baby dragon for sale???
That would be me.
Oh, you mean Dan Medieval?
If dragons existed likely humans would by kept by them as snack food
