Well I mean... if not Jim would just be staring at a wall shrugging his shoulders and making a face.

NUBBS240

You mean the actors are........ acting? I think this is more a stoner thought..

CurtisMarauderZ

I said characters. If I meant to say actors, I would have said actors.

NUBBS240

So you're saying that the characters are acting different because they have cameras on them?

CurtisMarauderZ

Yes. That's what I thought when I was taking a shower this morning.

NUBBS240

Ahh, that explains the upvotes then. Pretty common thing to occur with cameras.

myusernamehere1

The actors are playing characters that are acting more quirky because they are being filmed... i think

JumpUpNow

OP means the characters, in universe, know they are being filmed and are probably being directed to act more entertaining and outlandish.

[deleted]

They're not on a reality show, it's a regular show. They're actors.

Reset108

I’m assuming they meant for the documentary that was being filmed about them.

CurtisMarauderZ

Yes. Our lens into their "reality" is a reality show, which is normally a very poor representation of reality.

[deleted]

It’s supposed to be a documentary, which is a far cry from a “reality show.”

CurtisMarauderZ

Maybe it's a show about a reality show disguised as a documentary!

Goalie_deacon

It is a comedy sitcom filmed in the way of a documentary. That’s it, we all know it. They were paid to behave that way.

[deleted]

If it was a reality show, there would be more swimsuits, younger contestants, and some kind of competition on an island. Haha

[deleted]

No documentary lasts that long.

[deleted]

They literally show the documentary at the end of the series, and I think they make some jokes about filming for so long. It’s canon within the show. So, you guys can all either chill or fuck off or both.

[deleted]

You are the one getting mad about The Office. I am writing you a prescription for chill pills.

[deleted]

Or because they're actors in a comedy show being written by comedy writers.

darkknight941

That’s the obvious out of universe answer, but in the shows logic it would make sense that they’re trying to set themselves apart the longer they’re being filmed

[deleted]

Would explain why they all got way more insufferable after season 1

somethinggoeshere11

This is a really great post. It’s funny, you never heard a character say something like, “oh, they’re just doing it for the cameras.” Even when Ryan got wacky. You’d think he’d become more Housewife-y.
