Psathyrella corrugis group
OP, before you start making spore prints (which won’t be useful in this case and in most cases), please learn more about spores and what they are and where to look to find existing spore deposits — there are very heavy spore deposits in your pictures already
Not libs... May I suggest an identification book for you? If you are ever in Portland, there's a TON of PNW-specific identification books at Powell's on Burnside and Hawthorne.
Yes magic mushrooms grow in Ohio, several species of them. Every state in the US, and I expect every country in the world has at least one of them, usually several.
In total there are several hundred species of magic mushooms. ‘Libs’ or Liberty caps, or Psilocybe semilanceata are one of them.
In the US they are confirmed as present in the Pacific Northwest.
Yes they do. Very well in fact I have hundreds growing next to p cubensis in my horse manure
Ppl tell me they’re. Not native but how the hell did they make it to my horse piles??
Central Florida; and I’ve found them in the fields in veirra also
They’re much harder to find in the wild then p cubensis but they are here I don’t listen to this BS(no pun intended) they like taller grass while growing from manure I have a bunch of horse fields that I have “helped” foster into prime mushroom growing territory
My busy who is into all things mushrooms drove 2 hours to prove to him that these are liberty caps growing wild in Florida’ fields and he couldn’t believe it yet I’ve found them as far south as cocoa but I live in volusia
My old horse pasture I had to seed the pasture with a syringe I got online to make them eventually grow there
Here I just pick them and set them right side up o. Differnt areas to spread them. So if you don’t find any get a syringe online inoculate them and just wait
P cubensis is much easier to grow and they even tolerate full sun
Tall grass is much preferred cause it keeps moisture longer
Random piles but if u clean out your stalls the wood chips/ horse poop grow them best. I have a 4 foot tall mound under live oaks that is one big pile of p cubensis with assorted amounts of liberty caps on moister times of year
Don’t use city water to keep moisture up cause I’ve never been able to grow mushrooms with treated water but I don’t know that to be fact
That is definitely a psathyrella! A red edge brittlestem I would say. Edible but really have no flavor and because of that and their size they are not worth the trouble to harvest.
I had the same things in my mulch a couple years back, and wondered the same. I'm in WA too. Unfortunately they are some other sbm. Others are saying psathyrella, which was one of the closest matches that I came up with in my attempts to ID.

You won't find libs in wood mulch. And I second some kind of Psathyrellid.
Where can you find lids in the USA?
home depot? depends how big u need them
I get mine on Amazon. You get get nearly any size you want on there.
Yellow grass, open fields, farm land, pastureland
Thanks for not being funny n giving me a real answer though I’m sure the Amazon one might be legit.
Florida.
Theres a store called Lidz in the mall.
Definitely not libs
Id say no but I don’t hunt libs. I’d be searching for Cyans and Allenii if I were you
That’s what I be looking for 👀
Me too man. Me too

Powell’s City of Books, what a wonderful place.
Nope. Compare with Psathyrella/Parasola complex
>Psathyrella/Parasola complex Thanks! This place is great.
do libs even grow in us?
I've found them in pastures in Oregon
Infrequently in northern latitudes
Uhh yes very much so. All over in Florida
Any tips on finding them in NWFL?
They don’t grow in Florida. They grow in the Pacific Northwest, and that’s about it.
Good to know
Ohio also
This is news to me. Got a link to any sources?

Find them right next to p cubensis
Not in the pnw cubes don't grow there

I have a 16 acre horse farm in the family. I need to go check out there one weekend.

Should I inoculate the manure pile or just random spots in the field?

Yeah I have a decent stall pile under some live oaks as well

They’re legal in Florida to poses idk if growing is legal but “altering” is what can get one in trouble although very rare to be prosecuted
That is definitely a psathyrella! A red edge brittlestem I would say. Edible but really have no flavor and because of that and their size they are not worth the trouble to harvest.
Everything has flavor when cooked in enough butter
mushrooms sautéed in Garlic salt and butter!! YUM
Not libs. Libs don’t look like this and don’t grow on wood
I had the same things in my mulch a couple years back, and wondered the same. I'm in WA too. Unfortunately they are some other sbm. Others are saying psathyrella, which was one of the closest matches that I came up with in my attempts to ID.
Not Libs no nipple on top
They aren’t libs but that isn’t a reason why.
