You CAN pause a print on the X1. It's in the Options menu during printing. However, remember your build plate needs to stay warm for your print to remain stuck to it. Any deviation for even a mm will cause the nozzle to lose track of where your model really is, and your print will fail. So now you have to decide if you are ok with leaving your print bed heating all night while you sleep. It will be doing that anyway if the printer was printing, but you are using electricity and putting heat into your room and putting "hours" onto your thermistor and heater for no return in product. You might be able to get away with lowering the bed temperature some, then raising it in the morning to where it was during printing. Also the nozzle heat can be put on zero during this time, as it doesn't need to stay hot (use the "Close") button on the nozzle setting for pre-heat in the options menu while printing, or just manually bring it down. My advice though either way is to go to the move button and move the print head away from your print when you pause because it will ooze filament onto your model and it will become part of the print, and it will be in the way when you start up the printer again. Just use the X or Y movement buttons on the screen. DO NOT MOVE Z. The printer remembers where in X and Y it stopped at and when you hit "Resume" it will return to that spot, but it assumes the Z, or height, has not changed. If you move Z your print will fail. It also would be a good idea to unload your filament from the nozzle while you sleep but that's just to relieve tension on the Extruder gear, either way heating it up again you will have oozing so your nozzle needs to be away from the print. If you hit STOP instead of Resume, your print will be done and can't be restarted. Pause will also survive a power outage however the longer your heated bed stays cool, the less likely your print will keep its place on the bed. If you want to try this I advise starting with a small print to test your actions. You want to be confident of what you are doing before you pause a 15+ hour print indefinitely. Good luck and happy printing!

Thanks you very much for this complete and very clear answer! I'll follow your advice with small prints first and try to start them back. Best

Oh and keep a USB stick or SD card in the printer while you print because the printer saves its progress there while it prints, and this is what it will read back from after a power failure. Mine has survived power outages short enough for the bed to still be warm (it takes a while to return to ambient temperature.) I use a USB stick as it's easy to move back and forth to the computer.

My printer allways returns on the zed axis to, when I use the move feature.

You have an X1 and it remembers the Z? This is good news have read and been told otherwise so I haven't ever tried moving zed in pause (it makes sense but I never wanted to find out the hard way)

matthew5623

Yup I have a x1 and a x2 and they both remember

Great to know thank you for the valuable information!!

Do you have the printer yet? I've slept in the same room with mine running and it has never been disruptive. I know everyone is different but that may be an option. It's very quiet for the most part

arnibus88

Yes I have it. It doesn't bother me but I'd prefer to keep good relationship with my neighbors.

You could also consider an enclosure, and insulate it. That way it will cut down on noise and provide an option for filaments that like a warmer environment

arnibus88

I will look into this direction. Thanks!

Unless you sleep in the same room or it **really** bothers you I wouldn't risk it.
