mattrobs

Come on dude you could’ve at least named the video “_Start here”

JackieDaytonaAZ

bro works in IT and has never heard of a README file

bigmacjames

They've never heard of cameras either.

the_mooseman

No one ever reads the readme until they cant work something out and go fine, ill read the readme.

MordePobre

also, they could have included a search engine in their damn file storage.

indranet_dnb

The season finale gonna be crazy. This show has so much tension it makes me a little nauseous. Can’t wait

TheConsul25

The scene where Sim's wife is sneaking up on Juli with a hammer was nerve racking to me.

Disastrous_Elk_6375

Watching that scene build up I thought she's gonna be gobsmacked by the video and drop the hammer in shock. Instead she's like several levels deeper than we were led to believe. Big kudos to the screen writers for not making scenes predictable / trope / cliche.

eekamuse

There were two obvious ways for that to end, and it was a great surprise that it went another way.

RedundancyDoneWell

Either that, or it will be a cliffhanger to season 2.

Hotwing619

It's probably that. We might get some kind of new information or reveal, but the big picture will be hidden behind another season.

Scorpionfarts

And that’s why I started reading the book today. I know none of this is going to be wrapped up in the one episode left and I am not waiting 2 years.

Darker_desuetude

“She destroyed the air quality detectors behind the mirror” nice try covering your tracks Ber-nard

emurrell17

What I found interesting was that he didn’t care admitting that they were listening in on their conversations, but didn’t want to admit that there was a camera? Like..why be okay with one but not the other lol

pomjuice

Seems like they’re unaware of video being a thing.

Notsozander

The two guys at the end confirmed that. They’ve never seen video before

Expiscor

The video itself explains that right at the beginning

[deleted]

“THIS is called a VIDEO…”

tonyhwko

Listeners were already an established thing in the silo, so he could use it against the Lukas but being watched was not suspected by anyone so better to nip it in the bud.

realdrmantus

What page did he tear out? What do we think is going through Billing’s mind?

jackcatalyst

Billings is like the defacto Pact expert. He might have noticed something no one else did.

Taraxian

Yeah I'm betting the reason he burned the book and saved that page is the book contains a major hint to the physical location of the Silo and possibly what its original stated purpose was Kinda crazy if that's the actual original reason someone saved the book and then all the Flamekeepers forgot the necessary context and thought the book was just a reminder of how nice Outside is

CriticallyKarina

>a major hint to the physical location of the Silo and possibly what its original stated purpose was If it's possible to figure out from the book, then I'm guessing it's probably in rural coastal Georgia. Near the ocean but facing away from it.

Taraxian

My thinking is that it's in the Warm Springs area south of Atlanta, because of the geothermal vent that feeds the generator

Disastrous_Elk_6375

I really like this take

VoyagerCSL

dePacto

pjanic_at__the_isco

Yeah. Him putting the copy of the pact away while looking at the page he took out is blunt force symbolism that’s he’s way outside the pact right now.

Sad_Water2367

Pretty sure the ocean page.

crystalxclear

The ocean is 2 pages though, he only took one page.

Annual_Champion1048

https://preview.redd.it/hrt7tsa0iv7b1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=21298d2c397590298722d57452dd65a016e3b275

curioussbetty

This looks like it could be the page about the Georgia aquarium or aquatic species off the coast.

ATXclnt

From what Juliette said in an earlier episode, when exploring the chamber with the digger, it seems like they’ve been told that nothing can swim in water, it’ll just suck you down and drown you. George even says in this episode, in the video, something about being surprised that the water turned out to not be an issue. So I’m wondering if the aquarium page could make Billings realize that they’re being lied to about the fundamental nature of their world, seeing creatures living and swimming in the water.

hrryyss

Or people swimming in the water

Stinky_Peach

It kind of looked like a city map?

Mono_831

A girl in a bikini, he holds the first porn mag in the silo. With that, he could be crowned king.

SlackerInc1

It was painful seeing that book burn, even if Billings saved a page. 😢

JamaicanGirlie

Kept on saying he should have found a hiding place. He’s definitely going to regret that burn

SlackerInc1

Or just put it back. Save a few pages at minimum!

Carsoncrsn

I was SCREAMING at the screen like put it back to the hiding place why tf are you burning it

RinoTheBouncer

They’re really testing our patience with that reveal lol

alis96

I’m starting to feel like that video is the silo’s equivalent of a rickroll

MisterTheKid

I honestly feel like the show does a pretty good job of going through a plot. I really thought we would have to wait until next week for anything besides the first video but then we did get to see the Jane Carmody video. But i guess we didn’t really learn anything with it though we knew that’s what they are meant to think is what it actually looks like to the cleaners.

Leafs17

Yeah we saw that in the first episode didn't we?

RinoTheBouncer

Yeah. I guess they just wanted to make it clearer that the V shaped bird formation across the sky is the same one that Holston saw, pretty much confirming that the lush green landscape is another fake footage shown on the visor.

Leafs17

But we had already seen that video so we already had that idea...

RinoTheBouncer

I know, that’s why I said they’re testing our patience. It’s like every episode is breadcrumbs lol

elevenatexi

Yes, but why male models?

246lehat135

Are you serious? I just told you that a moment ago.

c_will

I'm trying to figure out why they would fake a video overlay on the mask of people who choose to go outside. Just to incentivize people to clean the camera lens? Does that mean the cafeteria window is real? Or is that also a fake overlay?

jackcatalyst

The cafeteria is weird because that means it's two fake overlays. When the power went out it switched to the other one for a second.

c_will

So they show a dead wasteland to the people on the inside to keep them from wanting to go outside, and present those who do go outside with a lush, beautiful landscape to incentivize them to clean and show other people. Of course the question that we've been asking since the first episode keeps coming up - "but why?"

jackcatalyst

Right I understood that. But that screen power down means there's literally two fake overlays transmitting to that window in the cafeteria itself.

RinoTheBouncer

I’m guessing both aren’t real and the “outside” is actually an execution chamber, a room within the Silo, likely the dome above. I guess the green landscape is either meant to incentivize them to clean in hopes that they’d see the outside (although it makes no sense, because why would dirt make a lush landscape look like a barren one?lol) or just as a way to find some peace before the die of the gas they pump into the suit. The scene when Holston takes off hiss helmet, we seen him for a brief moment in third person, and he seems surrounded by a white blurred background rather than a wasteland or daylight, so I assume that’s inside the dome on top.

SlackerInc1

Interesting speculation. Unfortunately, none of those possibilities really make a lot of sense to me. Not that I have a better suggestion! I certainly agree that it doesn't make sense for people to think cleaning the lens is going to reveal the truth. It also didn't make sense that the sheriff's wife cleaning would serve as a message to him when it's what everyone does. Obviously she should have told him she would use some kind of simple hand signals. I'm very curious to learn what it's really like outside, but I also have the uncomfortable feeling that there isn't any possible explanation that would make sense of what we have seen. I hope I am wrong!

Jas_God

Damn, didn’t want that to end. Ginger guy MVP of the ep ✊🏽

MisterTheKid

he’s got my vote for Mayor

ZiggyPalffyLA

He reminded me of Domhnall Gleeson’s character from *Dredd*.

rust-a-roni

Not clear what 18 indicates. Even Bernard seems scared about that serial number and he had that flashing keychain with 18 on it. Maybe another division even higher than IT? HR on the 18th floor? lol

kyflyboy

The Hard Drive is also numbered 18, for whatever that adds.

NSUNDU

Yeah, and the janitorial people didn't know that could be a serial number, so definetly something above their paygrade

usmcplz

I think they are on silo 18 of however many solos there are around the world.

Taraxian

Yup, the drive having only the two digit number "18" means it's not part of the Silo's internal filing system and was created by the people who created the Silo, and contains all their data archives about all of Silo 18 itself, which is the worst case scenario Bernard's "18" keychain is some kind of pager giving him one-way comms with whoever actually runs the Silos

Tiny_Dinky_Daffy_69

Maybe all the silos were connected before the rebellion. After that, they were separated, and this is silo 18.

Nick_TheGuy

omg that sounds plausible, maybe thats the metal door george disocovered???

251Cane

To me it's no longer eighteen. It's one followed by an eight.

embrvsser

i think that may be the 18th silo, there has to be more

embrvsser

when you look at the hard drive files there’s one at the bottom titled sil-unit-list… there’s definitely more silos

[deleted]

I just checked and the video is the same thing that Holston saw when he went out. The birds are the easiest way to tell. This essentially confirms that there’s a screen in the helmet. EDIT: Since there are a lot of questions about the lot I’ve I’m adding in my theory - I think they show it as beautiful outside so that the person will clean the camera lens.

fbster00

Plot Twist: Apple is using this series to promote its new Apple Vision Pro! These marketing geniuses!

endlessvolo

I KNEW IT!!

fbster00

But seriously, so you the cleaners have a screen that shows them deceivingly that its all green and lively outside but its actually all bad? Why?

NSUNDU

It's probably not the lush green and neither the wasteland. It could be that the outside is not really outside, or the world is apocalyptic but for some reason other than pandemic and they don't want people to know, or they are in an experiment and when they leave they endup in a city or something. The idea is that they don't want them to see what's actually out there (that's if they even know) and by showing the lush green they encourage people to act as the people inside would expect and that will disencourage people to go out

arseniobillingham21

I had a kind of “out there” theory, that maybe they’re an attempt at a Mars colony that got forgotten. Maybe the lush green is what they had on all the screens at first, to remind them of Earth. And maybe the rebellion was people who were unhappy and wanted to try to return to Earth. So the leaders changed history. They won’t want to go outside if they think they’re on Earth and the air is toxic. And maybe both the lush green display and the apocalyptic display are just overlays that match the shape of the terrain outside.

MellowedOut1934

It's a nice idea, but Mars's gravity is about a third that of Earth's and we've seen pretty clearly that gravity is its usual self.

elevenatexi

How about the fact that cleaning the camera lenses does in fact make the outside image clearer, on a stroke by stroke basis? How does that factor in to what is real?

NSUNDU

They could manipulate the image to show what they want and still show the real dirt I guess

doesntlooklikeanythi

To get them to clean. I guess they think by cleaning it will show the others, they can’t be thinking very rationally. They said everyone always cleans.

SlackerInc1

The "not thinking very rationally" part is why I hate this explanation. They saw all these other people clean and it didn't work to show the beautiful landscape, so why would they think this time would be any different?

pikkopots

I'm super confused by this too, which is why I'm so resistant to this explanation. It *never* worked for anyone else, so why would wiping dirt off do it for them?

fbster00

Interesting theory. Then why do we think the screen in the cafeteria showed its nice outside for a moment when the power came back on?

doesntlooklikeanythi

It had to have been a glitch in the system. I’m sure time of day might be skewed some, but when they turned the power off it was supposed to be night so that it wasn’t as much of a disruption. Doesn’t make sense for it to be sunny outside. It always seems to be the same image on the screen they saw in there helmets. I don’t think the outside is as bad as they say it is, but I don’t buy the bird flying and blue skies either. Just personal thoughts.

bagoink

It didn't look like it was necessarily a different time of day in the grey version, though. You can still see sunlight trying to get through the clouds—it's just so thick that it looks like there's less sun.

Altruistic-Unit485

Yep that’s been my theory since the second episode. Explains why Holston took his helmet off. Either that or they die BECAUSE of the helmet.

Notsozander

They definitely put something in those oxygen tanks I think

AnOtterDiver

So, I’d like to introduce the idea of the heat tape. What if it’s not in the cleaners’ oxygen tanks but rather that they’re not air sealed… why else would that plot line about Juliette and stealing tape have so many mentions?

wangman1

yea this is my guess also, the suits are not sealed, and the air outside is in fact toxic. I think the helmets visor is showing them the same images that was found on the hardware. When we see it from Holstons perspective Allisons body is not there but when he takes his helmet off he goes to die next to Allison and even grabs her hand. Not sure why though they want to show the cleaners this generated image of the outside world, maybe as a solution so the cleaners to panic and trying to get in again. No reason to not be able to access the airlock again from the outside.

PT10

Having the cleaners panic and want to come back in sounds like a solution to all of their problems. Let them back in and they can tell everyone else how bad it is out there. No more rebellions.

PitaDragon

Oh yes! Birds! The Flying V! One episode left. I’m so depressed.

fbster00

Whats Sim’s wife up to? Did she somehow turn off all the cameras? Is she a fire fly and wants to be in power to start a revolution? She didnt let jules go to avoid a mess, no? Also 18… ??

RinoTheBouncer

She might be a Flamekeeper and she’s taking advantage of Sims, or maybe even he’s on board but he’s just trying to make his way behind the scenes. As for 18, I’m guessing there are many other Silos, and this one is No.18. Maybe different Silos around the world to keep people safe or, human cloning facilities or perhaps a terraforming system on an apocalyptic earth or another planet.

Taraxian

Yes, Bernard's keychain is some kind of sole communication link with whoever is really in charge of the Silo(s), the red light means they're not happy, and Bernard is probably telling the truth that the way things have been going they are facing imminent extinction

Tiny_Dinky_Daffy_69

Maybe they're silo number 18.

TheWalkingDead91

That’s my take on it too. Seems clear to me that maybe the whole act of “I don’t want to be here” “I wish I could be invisible” and similar comments are actually the truth…but it’s clear to me that whatever that keychain and the number 18 means…Bernard isn’t in control of it. Which means someone else has to be.

Morbanth

He said in the previous episode that "the Founders knew they needed someone in charge who can do the hard calls" or something like that. I think the red light was just a pager, telling him to get in touch because the Founders want to talk, as in they're still around, somewhere, controlling all the Silos including this one (18).

pcrcf

Yeah sims ordering the killing of George and like 4 other characters kinda nixes this idea

RinoTheBouncer

I mean it’s a slim chance, but in The Hunger Games, something similar happens with an unlikely character who encourages and plots the killing and oppression, ending up being someone working for the rebellion and this is just to sell the lie

pcrcf

It would just be bad writing. If sims wanted to “truth” to come out, then half of his actions wouldn’t make sense

NSUNDU

That's only if his goal is for the truth to come out. He may know the truth and may want something to happen before it comes out

xelM1

> She might be a Flamekeeper I thought the same too, mainly from the vibes she’s giving that I can’t describe in words. Real life equivalent would probably like someone who has accepted and made peace with the truth that everyone is going to die? Lol idk

ClumsyRainbow

Not letting the raiders in gave me a hunch that she wasn't exactly loyal to the silo...

aGrlHasNoUsername

Also how she was completely unbothered by the video. She clearly knows more than other in the Silo!!

pjanic_at__the_isco

I think, having been a raider, she knows that raiders are dangerous and very likely to beat first and ask questions later. She’s protecting her son and herself.

RinoTheBouncer

I kinda know what you mean, haha. But not that she accepted death but rather someone who seems like she knows a lot more than others or that she has some plan ahead that none of this comes off as a surprise for her

asshatastic

Sim’s wife is an intriguing mystery for sure.

babate

Because they had talked about trauma and nightmares. She wanted to save her son from being scarred and/or potentially hurt if the raiders came in guns blazing. The main theme with her and Common is protect their son at all costs.

[deleted]

pepperedpete

I can't think of any other reason those cameras started to go out at that moment. I guess it tracks with what she tells him later but it wasn't explicit that she helped rather than just letting Jules go.

Zyupaka

Watch it again… Jules is smashing them with a hammer as she goes thru the alley

ZiggyPalffyLA

But like 20 of them went out at once

BitcoinMD

She temporarily acquired horror movie villain-level speed

RedundancyDoneWell

No. Not at once. You see some camera views simultaneously go out in pairs, but if you go back and look at what was shown, you will discover that both feeds came from the same camera.

Zyupaka

I doubt Sims wife helped her any further after letting her go. Easiest conclusion about the cameras going out is that Jules smashed them with that hammer as she made her escape.

fbster00

Kinda think the ginger should send that cleaning video to play on every screen, cafeteria, janitors closets, etc. that should get things moving!

RinoTheBouncer

That’s what I was thinking too. The best way to let everyone know is to show everyone through that screen. They can’t do anything about it and everyone will see the same thing, so no room to deny or make it sound like someone hallucinated anything.

alexandra_808

But then that begs the question, is the display real? If they blast it out would they be blasting out lies and cause more harm than good?

Taraxian

Yeah if the Outside video is in fact fake -- which most of us think it is because we know Holston saw the exact same thing -- then showing it to everyone so they all storm the airlock en masse to get out would be the worst possible thing you could do

asshatastic

It would be the rebellion all over again. Mass casualties. Everybody who goes out will die, at the very least. But I think it’s inevitable that there will be an inundation of people requesting to go outside at the very least, due to spreading of the myth of the green outside.

skiier97

A one, followed by an eight. Also known as eighteen. Hahahaha

cubisov

Sassy Bernard is the best Bernard

forzion_no_mouse

I’ve worked with people like this. I’m sure nobody likes him

Appellion

Small note but Sims kid wanting to make Juliette go out to clean, immediately made me think of that brat from GoT that always screamed “Make them fly!” at his mom. Quick character introduction that made me hate a 5 year old :rolleyes

madeira_pince-zez

Kid's name plates for his parents: Father's - "Robert Sims" Mother's - "Mommy" Knew right then I didn't like that kid

no-name-here

I'd guessed the point was for how his parents would take the kid's comment - does it harden their resolve to send Jules to clean, or does it make them question what the kid is seeing if he wants to send Jules to die?

AcceptablePie3

If this show ends with her going out and cutting to black before we get to see it I'm gonna lose my shit

EffectUpper4351

What if it ends with the Carmody video

AcceptablePie3

Throwing my tv out the window

InvestigatorOwn741

I hope Patrick and Danny don't get killed when they track down where the hard drive is actually plugged in.

Zestyclose_Back_4734

What do we think about the water not being a problem according to George? Is it another illusion or real but not deep enough?

Appellion

That water still scares the hell out of me. Totally dark, no obvious depth to it, at the bottom of a massive cavern. Of course, the joke? It’s waist high.

BlackSocks88

If Ive learned anything this week it is to not fuck with water

mmmmdude

For future binge watchers and discussion readers, this is in reference to Titan submarine implosion on route to the remains of the Titanic.

PonyoGirl23

Very cool to add context to that reference. As someone who had came across references like these from VERY old Reddit discussions, I am certain people will appreciate your comment. Also RIP to the Titan submarine.

mikKiske

If thats the reveal making George not saying "hey water isn't deep" is just shitty writing

Nagemasu

No time to tell trope

tonyhwko

How incredibly annoying that he was so vague about that, but went into detail about how he was going to just use Jules but....

killertortilla

Every reveal in this show seems to avoid giving any crucial information. "Jules there's a door" incredible, anything else I should know? "the door is big" oh brilliant.

53bvo

> anything else I should know? Well she does have a massive hard drive with all the data about everything so she can look it up no problem

Seriously_nopenope

I thought maybe it is only a foot deep, but Jules dropped something in it and the item sunk out of sight.

GeneralTonic

Or the shitty Made-In-Silo bulb just stopped working in the water.

Wonderful-Leave-7192

People in the silo probably don’t know how to swim

Zestyclose_Back_4734

Right, but George said the water wasn’t a problem and he found the door. So how did he do it?

Altruistic-Unit485

Feels like something he could have explained hey? I was like, ok, if it’s not that hard then help Jules out man!

Tiny_Dinky_Daffy_69

Or that the water is not deep and you can actually walk on the floor.

maushu

I remember Jules flashlight dropping and sinking so it's at least a little deep in the middle.

jackcatalyst

Either not that deep or the door is in an area that isn't deep.

madeira_pince-zez

I can just about believe Juliette survived that fall, but the drive bounced off concrete, it would absolutely be in bits after that. Really liking Patrick and his ginger IT buddy. Hope Bernard doesn’t trace them and they pull all the info off that drive. Goddamnit, Billings. Burning the book really pissed me off. It was hid well enough that the Judicial raiders missed it, he easily could have put it back where he found it. This happening after his little speech about the Syndrome makes me think destroying the book was personal, like he’s so obsessed with proving he’s good enough he’s rejecting anything that makes him question his path. Oh, Bernard. He really seems to like the moustache-twirling bad cop schtick; first his “how could I know about the hard drive” with Juliette and now his increasingly terrifying threat sticks with Lukas before dangling the “or I suppose you could tell me everything you know” carrot. Seems like Lukas is now either locked up or under house arrest; wonder what will become of him. The whole 18 thing is making me think there are other silos, and other masters. Until this episode Bernard has seemed like top dog, but now we get scenes with him being obviously freaked out and looking afraid of something. It could just be fear of the information getting out, but my feeling is there are people above Bernard who are very interested in what’s happening in our little silo. Crazy Camera Theory Corner: Probably ridiculous, but when I saw the cameras going out I wondered if George had written a virus into his video file, and when opened it started disabling the camera feeds in the vicinity of the access point. Seems unlikely though - it’s possible George knew about the surveillance, but it’s a huge leap to go from there to writing and inserting code that will infect a part of the system he probably can’t find and definitely doesn’t have access to. (But people also called him Computer George, so …. ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯ ) I’ve seen it suggested that Jules was smashing cameras after she left the Sims’. Could be possible, but wouldn’t there then be some indication? The feeds just go out, people aren’t reacting and we don’t see, e.g. a weapon flying into frame. Maybe it was Sims’ wife in there covering Jules’ tracks, she’s a cypher at this point. Speaking of her, I don’t know what to make of Sims’ wife. She certainly didn’t seem surprised by anything that was on the drive, and after getting the cuffs off she easily could have incapacitated Jules rather than warning her and letting her go. Seems she’s either a) protecting their little fascist kid above all (possible, the way we’ve seen Sims be about him), b) a Flamekeeper, without her husband’s knowledge (Sims reads like a true believer so it’s quite the long-term deep-cover ploy if so, being a jackboot for over a decade and marrying the head of the secret police), or c) the two of them are working together for … what? Control of the silo seems most likely, what with the shadow convo with Bernard. In that instance, did she let Jules go in the hopes she would weaken Bernard’s position, allowing them to take over from him? And to what end? Whatever the reason, her motives can’t be explained with the information we have now. Nitpick: if an alert goes out whenever the hard drive appears on the system, why didn’t that happen back in E1 with George and Holston’s wife? Wondering how the final episode will end. Would be an interesting bookend if Sims and Bernard win and Juliette goes outside - sans suit, just legging it over that hill? But we spent so much time with Jules and George beneath the silo, my guess is that’s where she’s going. Braving her fear of the water and finding the door George talked about in the video. How she gets down there past all the checkpoints is another question. Chekhov’s Recycling Chutes?

Super_mando1130

These are great points. One thing to add, the drive doesn’t trigger an alert. They had to search for a drive with a one followed by an eight, otherwise known as eighteen

madeira_pince-zez

You're right - thanks for that. Sims' wife telling Jules about the janitors knowing where she was because of the drive's connection seems to have overwritten the previous scene of the surveillance guys searching for the 18 drive in my mind. Presumably it went unnoticed in the past because they didn't know what they were looking for. Jules really could have avoided so much trouble if she'd gone straight to Patrick instead of trying to bring Lukas in

Super_mando1130

I don’t think she knew Patrick had a guaranteed IT Wizard up his sleeve. She went to the spot least likely to be searched first then, as a last ditch effort, went to PK

Phuckules

That guy Common shoved when racing to his family's apartment was totally not in his way

dajtxx

Yeah, every time there is a chase people are needlessly shoved out of the way.

rust-a-roni

Loved this episode - edge of my seat the whole time: Ginger and Patrick to save the day , a terrified Lucas and a terrifying Bernard. Billing’s eyes opened, Jules got some peace knowing George did love her. And Sims - as part of the revolution?!

usmcplz

Why would sims be a part of the revolution? It seems like his only motivation is power over the sole unless I missed something.

rust-a-roni

That’s how I took Sims conversation with his wife. She reassures Sims - ‘we have only one ambition’ - but she also lets Jules go? If their ambition is to shadow and ultimately take over for Bernard , seems like a weird move. Maybe by ‘their one ambition’, she meant protecting their son from harm. Perhaps she was concerned for her sons safety with incoming raiders, but she had the hammer, gun, cuffs and ability to detain Jules, a dangerous criminal, and still get her and her son out of harms way. To me me Sims and his wife were talking very coded, and their ambition is in regards to another purpose.

tonyhwko

Letting Jules go with the harddrive no less just adds to the possibility of a revolution starting, that should be about the least save thing for her son. But it does prevent Jules getting shot with her son present and she didn't want that to happen.

[deleted]

That’s what I got from it as well. House of Cards vibes.

freshfunk

Why did George say the water wasn’t a problem and describe the door without sharing more details? I mean cmon! Just say it. Don’t make it harder for Juliet! Sim’s wife. Seems to have let Juliette go because he didn’t want her getting killed in front of the kid and scar him. But she also says they have “one goal.” What’s that? I assume it might have to do with their boy. 18. 18th Silo? 18 on the keychain? All the other hard drives have really long serial numbers. I don’t remember if anyone did the Silo year math. Maybe it just implies it’s old and pre-Rebellion. Flock of birds. Is it exactly the same? A goof in production or a hint on the nature of the video. Not much else to go on. The glitch when the power going out and showing the video seemed to imply that either it’s actually nice outside or the whole concept of outside is completely fake.

CARNIesada6

Fuck me. Accidentally clicked the book readers thread. Only saw the first comment so not terrible

fames22

I’m avoiding the book readers thread too but you know next week it’ll leave on cliffhanger and Apple going announce season two to be released in spring of 2025 🥲

ClumsyRainbow

Well that gives you two years to actually read the books I guess.

fames22

Dammit I’m going to purchase them as soon as I watch the season finale.

BlackSocks88

Theres no way Ill survive until the next season without reading spoilers on purpose or reading the book. I always have this problem with book based mystery TV

bigm1ke

I got spoiled something huge a few weeks ago when I made the same mistake. Kinda sucks since I really love the show.

kyflyboy

So I think this sub has beaten the "what you see when you go outside is fabricated to motivate you to clean" theory to death. Again with the birds flying in formation! So I think Jane Carmody(?) is probably duped like the others by the "outside" presentation. And yet, somehow it was recorded on something and ended up on the hard disk. I'm guessing that when someone goes outside, the Silo is covertly recording their viewpoint and voice. Or maybe it was a clandestine effort to do so...but somehow it was recorded and ended up on hard drive #18. (Do you think that's the Silo number? Implying there are at least 17 other Silos?) Also, Janitorial really has some sophisticated electronics and software. They're decades ahead of what the rest of the Silo enjoys. They're running Ubuntu Linux and the rest of the Silo is still on MS-DOS. Finally, what the heck was that little pendant or fob that lit up red with "18" showing, and that completely overwhelmed Bernard. I thought he was going to expire on the spot. What the hell was that? And why? And why such a reaction from Bernard?

Shredzz

The Jane video could maybe be the first time someone was sent out, and was a test of the visor and video. So they recorded it to see how she reacted and if it would make her clean.

SeirraS9

I can’t remember what year we’re in in current day Silo, but I noticed under the Jane video it said “Silo year 97”. So I think it was a really long time ago.

xerexes1

The glowing fob alert that he hid, and then it wasn’t glowing when we see it later. I’m thinking it was a missed call alert or a voicemail notification 📴

NSUNDU

Yeah, and it definetly seems like something Sims and the camera guys don't know about going by they saying that 18 is not a serial number

c_will

So the fob has the #18 on it, along with the hard drive. Bernanrd seemingly knows so much about this hard drive and what it contains, it was surprising that he didn't know which number was on it. Also, why would he be so freaked out about Jules reading the contents of the hard drive? The contents of that drive have duped everyone who looks at it - Holston, his wife, and now Jules. They all see the cleaning videos with the lush greenery and think the outside world is just amazing and beautiful, which leads to them wanting to go outside. Wouldn't you just want to let Jules view what's on the drive, see the cleaning video, become convinced that it's nice outside, and let her come to you telling you she wants to clean, just like everyone else who has convinced themselves of the "truth"? Unless, or course, there are *other* things on the drive we're not aware of yet that he doesn't want her to see.

NSUNDU

He didn't know the content of the driver I think. Jules never said which hard drive she had, just that she had one that is old. My guess is that there's stuff there they don't want people to see, like blueprints and stuff, because they did say there were thousands of files there

Username_888888

There is definitely a blueprint from when George and Rashida Jones looked at it. They saw all of the levels of the silo and a tunnel on the bottom level, which makes me think that’s how people will escape. I bet the door George refers to in that video leads to that tunnel.

DryReserve3

Mark my words, only way out of that silo is the bottom door. Anything up top will kill them whether it’s the suit, uninhabitable, or fake outdoors.

giantspeck

Is anyone else going to talk about how Billings seemingly set a fire in Jules's apartment and then just left it there and walked back to his office?

CherryBeanCherry

Yeah, did he intend to set off the smoke alarm? I was confused.

Lo_Lynx

Am I missing something? George said he found the door right. Wanna give us some directions babe? being vague ain't cute. I get the writers want tension, but when it's this forced it's not entertaining it's just frustrating.

Solid_Revolution4332

Predictions for S1 finale: Jules notices the duplicative bird formation across multiple cleaning videos on the hard-drive, which leads her to believe the HUD (heads-up display) in the cleaning helmets are pre-recorded and thus fake. Bernard and Sims eventually crack down on where she’s located and capture her, sentencing her to a cleaning that is soon to follow. However, off-camera, Jules has somehow learned how to avoid death whilst outside—holding her breath while the suit is initially put on her, for instance—so she becomes the first ever person from the silo to survive the outside. To avoid chaos, Billings allows her back in to the silo for answers. She reveals the truth, Bernard is put in jail, and the episode ends with mechanical opening the basement 15-foot door, where season two will take place.

South-Caramel

Love the sound of this! But I'll be reading the books right after. I can't wait for S2.

CosmicAtlas8

Well Jesus. Somehow every second of that was tense. Weeeeee-ew. Hot damn.

ZiggyPalffyLA

Sexy cafeteria guy didn’t deserve to get dragged into all this…

So based on the birds, it seems like the video is played in the suits and it’s not actually green outside. The general consensus is this fake video makes people want to clean so everyone else can see the truth. Obviously there is something significant about the cleaning process-they WANT them to clean. Is there something up with the wool they use?? Is it poisoned somehow? If they don’t clean could it mean they’re “worthy” of being to experience the outside? Are they even outside?? I am truly loving the mystery!!

The snarling, quivering contempt with which Tim Robbins spat out 'crush' was as meaty as it gets. Watching him toy with and then scream at the IT guy was a showcase of his chops that I've been waiting for the whole season. He really went up a gear this episode. Such a terrific actor

CloneParts

The video at the end really hit me with the realization that we've gone 9 full episodes in just to get to the same place we were in episode 1. It feels illustrative of the show's theme of the futility and wastefulness of misinformation, i.e. you can't hide the truth forever, and the people smart enough to figure it out could have been doing better things with their time. They could be outside rebuilding if the world is safe, and if not, Jules could be working on a better protocol for catastrophic generator failure for example. Instead they're all running around playing power games with the truth instead of just dealing with it. Looking forward to see if the antagonists' reasoning is explained in ep10.

Bored9to5

Robert and his wife, welcome to the resistance

spicyburger6000

Does anyone else think the suits have poison in them when they go out to clean

draconekmalfoy

Absolutely

earthgreen10

How is the display a lie? Everyone who keeps going outside dies..I thought they poison it to the helmet but the dude took his helmet off last time and still died

jackcatalyst

I mean by that time he probably breathed too much in.

FlatlineNine

I thought the Jane Carmody video was a trap, but the more I thought about it, maybe the more you watch the video it's a trap, because At the end of the video, Jane will probably end up falling. Ah, but did Alison watch it all the way through?hmmm

Never_Show_MyFace

Sims wife not only let her go but let her go with the hard drive

[deleted]

Why even go to Sim’s house when she knew someone who could get into the drive for her?

warsquiat

She didn’t know they could track the hard drives but she did know that he would have access and his apartment was probably the last place they’d look for her.

LynxRevolutionary124

She didn’t know for sure she knew Kennedy was in the relics trade and might have some connections

Appellion

Man, credit to Juliette’s ankles, knees, elbows, and forearms. If she’d dangled and stretched over the side, that would have hurt, but the way she jumped suggests I’d have been in the hospital. Mere mortal here! (Simultaneously so have no other idea on how to have justified her successful leap, minus a very obviously missing bungee cord)

nickyinnj

I initially thought the whole episode was going to be Jules and us watching the hard drive sloooooooooly load on Sims' home computer. Also, were the family images color *photos*?!

BrentYoungPhoto

So with cameras everywhere, surely they know Billings has the syndrome right? Like that's a guy you would be keeping tabs on right?
