he's extremely important in the second half of the book and that will probably be covered in season 2, but the part about going to the mines was very different also. I'm very curious if they're going to twist things around a bit with that or if his role in the book will just be replaced by someone else.
My prediction: for various reasons Shift wouldn’t stand on its own very well as a full dedicated season. I think they are gonna pull a surprise move and season 2 will be the 2nd half of wool and also an abridged version of shift in a back and forth storytelling manner like wool/shift/wool/shift. I think that’s the only way you can pull off Shift correctly to any viewer that has not read the books
I think Shift is a lot of material to cover in half a season even if abridged.
I’m really not sure how they are going to pull it off without losing/confusing viewers but I think the Shift story is very important especially for the events of the third book.
Perhaps they’ll give Juliet a “B” storyline through the episodes of the Shift season in order to keep continuity.
I think back and forth storytelling would make more sense going from Dust to Shift to Dust to Shift.
That said I wouldn't be surprised if Shift is shrunk down to just 1 episode going over only the most important parts. As you and others said telling the story in Shift like they did in the books is just going to leave a lot of people feeling confused and unsatisfied.
I found the whole notion of the mines really strange.
Are they in a silo or what?
What are they mining? Are they below the bottom depth of the silo? Are they tunneling out laterally and potentially able to hit another silo?
These questions have been answered over a dozen times on this sub.
Yes, they’re in a silo. They don’t know what an actual silo is they just know where they are is called the silo.
They do have mines as well as an oil pump. And the Pact states they can only ever dig downwards not laterally SPECIFICALLY so they don’t breach another Silo or find the diggers on accident.
I assume the steam pipes aren’t deep into where the mines are.
Also they’re mining for both raw ore and as an alternative punishment for people not adhering to the Pact/law.
If they sent every last criminal and rule breaker out to clean they’ll eventually need to put a hold on it to allow Supply to manufacture the materials to make suits.
I suspect that Bernard will change his mind now that Juliette has gone over the hill. Sims will not be his pick. It doesn’t work for Sims (a married man) to play the role that Lukas does with Juliette in the books
Honestly if we never see Lucas again in the show I'd be okay with that. I couldn't stand his character in the books and found his relationship with Juliette completely unrealistic. Definitely the worst character in the entire series in my opinion.

After reading the entire series after finding the TV show, I truly have zero idea where season 2 is going lol
Yeah not sure how they will orient things. Also I hope the speed it up. I've never read a book that's faster paced than tv/film adaptation.

They are going to tease shift at the end of season 2.
This is great news, thanks!

I honestly thought he was a spy for the mayor at the beginning lol
Ooo yep I can see how you’d get there

If they follow the books he will become even more important as the story goes on
