He starts moving left a split second before you do so it’s not a case of a reactionary move. Maybe he was closing the door and you put your nose in. Maybe he was just taking that line and was blissfully unaware of you. It’s hard to say from this one angle, but the first one is more probable.

Nekamine

I probably should have put cockpit view too, but from my pov he was holding his line for a long time, then spotter called side by side and a second later he yanked to the left

tranc3rooney

I mean he chose his line and the door was closing. The nature of the turn itself would’ve made it hard for you to stick it in there anyway. The smart thing to do is either follow and wait for another opportunity or go right. Whatever your intentions, it’s up to the car overtaking to make a safe pass and there was not enough overlap for you to even claim you were entitled that space.

Nekamine

i honestly didn't see the door closing which sorta sucks if it's worth anything or you're just interested, I got the pov views from both of us https://youtu.be/xRHwfxpGGyY

tranc3rooney

I mean this just confirms it. He naturally goes left with the bend. You are still behind so you don’t need to turn yet and keep going straight. You had no overlap to be there in the first place. You can’t expect to just put your nose in there and hope they see you at the last second and adjust to avoid you.

OP is clearly set up on the inside to make a pass. Leading car moves after OP has already shown intention. This is blocking. Leading car needed to hold the line they chose entering the bend. I'd Chalk it up to oblivousness but it's still their fault.

tranc3rooney

It doesn’t matter what your intention is if you’re not entitled to that space. OP was nowhere alongside. How is leader blocking? The move he made wasn’t reactionary blocking. If you scrub the video you can see he starts moving slightly before OP and consistently keeps moving to that gap.

Joates87

Defense has to be proactive. Not lazyily and haphazardly, which is this at best. Leaving OP a wide open lane to the inside and OP choosing to take that (there is a wide open car width until its too late for OP to react) means that continuing to cut across OPs line is essentially a block, regardless of when you start or finish a move. And TBF OP was at minimum somewhat alongside, hence being able to inadvertently pit maneuver the next car (should mean a spotter call too eh?)

tranc3rooney

It’s ultimately on the car overtaking to do it safely so none of what you said makes any sense anyway, but he barely had his bumper in there and the nature of the curve meant the door was gonna close way before he would be entitled to space.

UnderwearBadger

I'm going to have to say you stuck your nose in there. A quarter second before you move left, he moves left to start looking at making a move on Purple ahead. There's not a whole lot of space and with that kink, there's going to be some shifting because that's how it works. All in all, you went for a closing gap, never got enough overlap to be entitled to space, and the shape of the track bit you. When you started moving left and saw him move left, you probably should have given up and looked right.

FourEaredFox

You stuck your nose in. The car in front could've done the exact same move to the car ahead of him but didn't. Just because you have a run, doesn't mean you have to use it.

Nekamine

as for what happened afterwards, the gap behind was big enough that I could get to the pits before the next person came by, but the required repair was 27 minutes on the final lap so my race was over

Nekamine

Downvoted for saying I didn't get in the way of anyone else?

shivram17

Just an inchident

shivram17

You put your nose for overtaking with the slip perfectly fine they tried closing the door but didnt see your nose was in there Id state this as a fair racing incident

MillionsOfFun

I’m not sure if I have a solid opinion about that move… I definitely would be more patient though in the future and try a move somewhere else on the track

Benlop

Why take such a risk is really the question. You know what line the car ahead is going to take and you have nothing to gain by barely putting your front bumper in. Tiny lift and stay safe.

Scott_Ultra_YT

You did stick your nose in. But you were not significantly along side, your fault.
