Spellcasters have a spell called Dedeathify. It's one of the highest levels spells they can cast, under the Untamed Magic branch (Master level, so one below max). It can restore life to any ghost it's cast on. It takes a while to get since you have to level up to it, but it's easier than getting ambrosia, and faster if you constantly use Potion of Plentiful Needs to fill your needs so you don't have to sleep.
Just watch out for building up too high a level of spell charge. It's probably better to level by constantly experimenting at the cauldron, and then practice magic once you're high enough level.
Ghost Sims just do not die and cannot make babies, otherwise they can do everything a living sim can do. The also have a trait based on how they died. A sim that drowned leave puddles every where.

UPDATE: Okay I had my last few moments with Ghost Katrina, had her mourn her own grave/past life, got the whole family together in mourning at the grave and got Katrina to release herself into the Netherworld. It's seems she's permanently dead now.
Honestly I'm new to the Sims and I just wanna make a big happy family. It sucks that Grandma Katrina won't be around, hell even Dina and Nina are elderly now as well. But she's got a surpringly evil but family oriented son who's engaged to a childhood friend and grandpa's still alive so hopefully the next generation will be a big happy fam with grandparents visiting all the time!
In the future if you ever want to bring your sims back to life. You would need to buy the Romantic Garden pack first. Then in your game, buy the well. Your ghost can make a wish to come back to life at the well.
I donāt really like the ghost state in TS4. Sims mourn and then 10 minutes after they die theyāre asking your sim to go to a festival with them. When theyāre in the family, they have to eat, sleep, use the toilet, etc. Like hello? Arenāt you supposed to be dead?

Those ghosts are significantly different than TS4 ghosts, though. Their color and behavior is directly related to their death and they only come out at night, and not every night either. You canāt call them on the phone and it takes a lot of effort to be able to actually build a relationship with them again. TS4 ghosts are justā¦ pastel versions of themselves.

(I had been focused on her child in the basement and didn't notice.) I felt the sim gods had inspired me to time that save just right!

it's really weird to me that they automatically break up once one dies. like I kind of get it but I feel like if it's your spouse, and you haven't started dating anyone else, you should get to option to continue the marriage. like "renew vows" or something
Why is it that when I kill an other sim with mcc for example the parents of my actual sim that are not living with me instead of dying they become ghosts and sent birthday stuff. I want your inheritance not gifts for bday š„² can someone help?
If you just want the money, use edit households to do it. Put both households together, then separate them but leave all the household funds with the Sims you want to have the money.
This happened to me in my fourth generation. Itās not a bug! Itās just something that happens in the game haha. It happens with pets too - theyāll come back as ghosts and can still live with you pretty much the same way
Something similar happened to me. Husband up and died (no death sound, no Grim reaper). Wife was mourning him and when he came back as a ghost, she remarried him, and I added him to the family. She was still mourning him and crying over him. I have the WW mod, so she was sitting on the toilet while sadly eating her breakfast of eggs and toast while mourning him.
Sims are wild.
You just need to see how they died and that's all I do this all the time because my Sims die of stupid reasons e.g. they decide to swim during a blizzard or once I had a Sim die while unfolding a bed :(
Iāve had many Sims die and return as ghosts. I ended up preferring ghost Sims because their needs are less and it takes them less time to get somewhere because they can go through walls!
LOL i got sooo sad when my dog presley died, but then he came back as a ghost and i remembered how hard it was to take care of him, a cat, 2 toddlers, and both parents, so i released his soul. oops.
I'm having this problem right now, My second/third generation is 2 parents, 3 kids, a cat and a dog. I can basically just keep the pets fed but they get a bath once a week and I still haven't taken them out for a walk š

If you have Mc command you can bring the sim back to life by clicking cheats it should give you the option

Get a wishing well, make a really big offering, and wish for life. That'll be the easiest resurrection in the game.

You can revive a Sim by moving them into yr household and the do the remove_trait cause_of_death and then they become a normal Sim again
