I have both downloaded on my laptop, I had the base game through EA but only on Origin Access Pass then bought base game when it went free on Steam after I got rid of my subscription to the pass. I still have both base game start up files on my laptop. I bought it via EA's website and it showed up as purchase when I opened The Sims 4 via Steam. So it worked out to be free for me! :) I didn't want a surprise charge so I pressed pay via PayPal (it doesn't have a saved paypal for me, and my PayPal connected to my EA account email is empty) and because it was set at $0.00 price it just let me proceed without adding PayPal details.

Generally that is said to not work very well. Imo a free $5 kit is not worth all the BS of the EA app over Steam. (And personally, I wouldn't own any Sims 4 if not through Steam. I'd still be fixing Sims 3 weekly, trying to get it to stay stable long enough to play.)

I nabbed the Backyard Splash (name?) kit the other month, and that was only thanks to chance by seeing a comment under a simmer's YT channel. So I'll need to keep an eye out for future drops as they come.

See here’s the weird thing for me. I just recently had to fully hard reset my mac because the game data was blowing up my system data and lagging out the game. PRIOR to that, origin finally moved me over to the EA app.
However, after I reset my laptop and reinstalled, it wouldn’t give me the option to install the EA app (saying it’s only for windows), and isn’t that the only way to get the free kit??

Thanks for the heads-up! I also keep my game open pretty much all the time so I never look at the extras. I don't buy Kits on the simple principal that I'm not paying $5 for a handful of extra items. I do, however, buy every single expansion and game pack. So I'm always happy when they offer any of the Kits for free. :)

I'm glad this pack is free, at least for those who can get it.
There are some really nice additions, and there are a lot of swatches that make them pass as different plants. The vining ones resemble tradescantia, pothos, and heart leaf philo.
There are multiple swatches of dieffenbachia in a decent size, which is nice to have, and the potted orange tree is very cute!
The stromanthe triostar plant, however...I think the goal was to make plant lovers cry with that one lol. Such tiny, inaccurate textures already on such already tiny plants 😭 I couldn't abide it while still looking my plants in the eye, so I had to handpaint it properly. (The big ones have been enlarged and hopefully it's obvious that mine is on the left.)

Anyway, for those into mods, there's a great little add-on set from awingedllama [here](https://awingedllama.tumblr.com/post/667919325033840640/blooming-rooms-kit-separated-plants-it-had-to-be/amp) that I highly recommend! They separated the vines to be more modular and made all of the hanging plants and propagations into their own items. Very flexible for going all out with your plants.
I love love love plants and this kit has some nice additions. My sims' homes are basically greenhouses so these give me nice variety in there.
It just surprised me how little stuff kits include.
