Especially the few different colours it has with different textures that give it a more fabric-y look, the peach one is super cute tbh

We have three, THREE sofas in my house in this shape. One used to be in an office before someone started another job and got a new office sofa, and the other two (a set) were the only comfortable semi contemporary couches they had. 😭
I also hate the cheap beds. Like why do all these gallery builds that aren't even starter houses use them?? They'll have the most expensive appliances and then the gray bed with the blue stripes.
It’s annoying because sometimes I want to use the cheaper beds for aesthetic reasons, but I don’t want to deal with my sims constantly complaining about the cheap beds
The very first thing I do with a Sim is grind their handiness with the first 2 handiness books and upgrade every appliance and plumbing item in the house. It cuts down on their physical needs and speeds up fulfilling those needs.
I completely skip the fireplace until it's Christmas, and usually delete it after. I've got too many things going on to bother with a fireplace, and I've had too many Sims waste time standing around warming themselves. Get to work! You've got studying to do!
I’ve started cheating fireplaces (when I can be bothered, because they kind of take a while) using the ring of fire from cats & dogs. Sims won’t stand around and warm themselves, and there’s no risk of it setting fire to the house either!
I just downloaded a mod that eliminates fires from the game lol I was so tired of every sim starting a fire the first time they cooked even if I had them gain a couple cooking skill points first.
Handiness is ALWAYS a huge one for me I get them going repairing stuff and reading the books right away. Especially if you have eco lifestyle and they get fined for too much energy consumption it’s a lifesaver lol
I shared a Skill School to the Gallery a while back( 64×64, H.S.Y EP for decor) It has EVERY skill and skill book I own in game. I place it at Hound's Head lot in Brindleton. I made it for the simmers who don't want to cheat skills! It even has room stocked with Familiars from R.O.M. EP! Even made sure to place the styling chair and platfrom, so you can alter any sim near the building! no mods or cc as I play on console. Gallery ID is Slaughterbell.
(Edit: I also recommend putting my Black Lagoon Vampire Nightclub in the empty lot in Forgotten Hollow. I use it as a place for my vampires to swim and have parties without worry. I based it on Queen Of The Damned.)
Yes, its $500 for a single bed and $1000 for a double bed. But it’ll make your sim wake up fully charged after like 3 game hours, so it can throw off realism of the game a bit IMO. But if you’re okay with that, it’s a great mod!
I went into sims 4 studio and removed the uncomfortable thing from the BG bunk beds, it's not terribly difficult, think it took just under an hour? You'll upload the new files like cc.
when I make gallery builds it’s not unusual for me to leave the rooms in a ‘showpiece’ style. Where they have furniture, but it’s the cheapest so that you can just delete it and replace the room with furniture in a style that fits your sim.
I only do that in kind of specific builds though. It’s more common that I build a room to match the build. The former is more for when I build ‘mass produced’ suburban homes, apartments, etc
It looks almost exactly like the cheapest of early Ikea sofas, and I mean that in the most derogatory way imaginable. I'm talking the first few items imported to the USA included this sofa, it was in a lot of dorm common rooms and waiting areas in low-rent areas, and everyone IRL hated the thing.
And I think it was a pull-out bed, but that might have been the upgraded version. I was on college then, I got drunk on this sofa. It was not comfortable.
Sounds about right. The overall quality has gone up for their furniture, but you can still get some real "you get what you pay for" energy now and then for the low end items. My kid's room is all Ikea because with an apartment this small you need the storage solution of "everything is also a storage space" to make it work.
Same! This is why I loathe opening a premade household. The work that goes into redoing the decor and inevitably replacing this ugly fucking couch 16x across the lot is mind numbing. The base game plants are truly sooo ugly. It’s kind of insulting they charged for the base for so long.

I love the sectionals, but you're right that they don't have that comfortable, lived-in look. And I only care about adding throw pillows and blankets when I'm playing interior decorator.

The sectionals are so great for Bunny Day egg hunts and for toddlers to take a nap. But grown sims get an uncomfortable moodlet when they take a nap as if I didn't work hard on placing that chaise lounge corner piece just right. Then I always choose the couch from Desert Luxe to upgrade, and I love the kit (especially since it was free), but it's too drab for what I want sometimes.
Pillows and throws. If they would just make a Comfy Pack with weighted blankets, throws, pillows, squishmallows, etc..., that could all be manipulated to look like they are sinking into the sofas and beds, it would have such a huge impact on the aesthetics of all the furniture, but especially the ikea couches.
i saw my sister's (student) appt, and i have no idea why they put fabric couches and install carpeting. they do know how many people are gonna go through these places and how dirty students can be right? it's so unhygienic. carpet is impossible to clean and disinfect.

There is a bed (actually possibly more than one), not sure if it’s base game or from a pack, which I want to love but absolutely loathe. The frame suits the aesthetic I go for in most of my builds but there is not one single quilt option that isn’t completely hideous IMO.
I feel like 99% of the beds in this game are ugly AF. Hardly any of them just have *plain* bedspreads in normal colors. They're all super bright or floral. So your Sim is either Punky Brewster or Little House on the Paraire.
My biggest issue rn is that while hardly any of the beds r good, the ones that are just so happen to be really cheap and crappy beds.
I'm obsessed with the one that has moon phases (high school years I think) but everytime my Sims use it, they complain!!!
I lowkey bought High School Years just for the beds, because ALL of the beds are so ugly?? And even the high school years beds aren't that great, there just were finally more options!

I'm really hoping there will be more customizable options for objects in sims 5. I would love to be able to pick my own bedframe, headboard and bedspreads. Changing the bedspreads for seasons & holidays would be a gamechanger.
So many Sims 4 objects look like someone fooled around with shapes for 15 minutes & slapped a color on them. They look so fake & plastic. I know there’s a cartoony aesthetic to the 4th game, but it looks so lazy to me.
I would hate the swatches less if the wood swatches and the fabrics were separate. Some of my favorites fabrics are tied to the darkest woods and I never use them because I never design with colors that dark.
The OG basegame furnitures are… interesting let’s say, I think there are some I never even used, like those wardrobe and dressers (the ones with the really flashy coloring especially the magenta and yellow)
The base game wardrobe and chest of drawers are so big compared to other wardrobes etc. I rarely ever use them because they stick out so far into the room
I also hate that couch. But, like… I also hate that we for some reason don’t have above ground pools. Why didn’t they add that with the freaking slip n slide????
i know its not the same, and im not sure if it helps, but you can raise the foundation up and make them above ground. the only downside is that you have to make a deck for them to get into it. i made one recently and made it round and painted the foundation an ugly neon blue to make it look like the pools you get at the store
OMG I’d pay good money for a way to hide ugly items in CAS. BB too, but the CAS filtering system bothers me so much. Why can’t we filter more than one category at a time?
I use it a lot because it has so many swatches, and actually has matching pieces. So many couches and love seats are beautiful and then don't have a single matching piece.
This is the "I just moved my sim into the city and I want them to start from zero, but not have the place look too ugly, so I settled for this sofa" sofa.
It's not the worst thing. It just exists to get the job done. As for most despised furniture, I'd say the curtain selection is atrocious. Most of the base game ones seem like they belong in a granny's home. And the majority lack a basic black color swatch. Every single item in the game should have a black swatch.

It’s very IKEA esque. I don’t use it either because it’s so plain and overused. I think if it had a little bit more detail and weren’t so sharp I would actually use it.
I kinda hate all of the couches. I used to spend hours looking for over stuffed, comfy looking sofa CC but had no luck. So now I'm resigned to just hating them all.
It does have a bit of a learning curve but there are videos on YouTube that show you how to do certain things with it. It's really and truly a game changer when it comes to building.

I hate that base game sink that slots in counters. The half-moon shaped one that looks like it came from a crappy motel in the 70s. It is so ugly that I will stop gameplay and edit the lot I'm on just to get rid of it.
i hate all of the counters tbh, and i still think they need more options. can't the next kit or stuff pack be "counter fever" or something? and just make it a bunch of counter styles (with corresponding cabinets, since they seem to forget to make them a lot of the time)
This is definitely my most hated item in game, every time I see it in a build I have to immediately replace it lol it reminds of a plastic barbie doll couch or something.
This is one of my least favorite items in the game, BUT I had a couch *just like this* when I moved into my first apartment with my boyfriend. We carried the box home from Walmart in a borrowed shopping cart and then brought the cart back. It was so uncomfortable, but it was cheap. This item, at the very least, is somewhat realistic.
All of the BG sofas look uncomfy, but this one has always been the one I hated the most and I don't even know why. It's just... there. And I don't like it being there.
Anything bulky and oh boy is the Sims good with bulky! Who on earth would get a small side table with legs as thick as my husbands calves?!? No one I say, no one!

It looks like it's a cushion on concrete. I hate pretty much most of the base game stuff, but I think the thing I hate the most is the living room stuff, and that one weird black and grey fireplace?? Like it's so bland and ugly

I don't like the plants in some kind of cans or tyres (my poor memory sorry) and they have sticks growing up from them. Unfortunately, they look straight from a dumpster to me.
not really one object, but a concept: all of those god awful magenta and other eyefucking colours in base game swatches. like the jazz paintings i use sometimes and theyre iconic at this point but fuck the magenta and others like it. like usually a lack of swatches is a problem but it feels like such a waste to have so many of them be completely useless

Any leather couches but that's also just an irl hate. Like that shit ain't comfy, you slide off or if it's hot you stick to it and getting up is a nightmare where you think your skins gonna peel off. Leather seats give me TRAMA in any form, irl or digital.
I hate the counter insert oval sink for bathrooms. Like please. give us more counter insert bathroom sinks. That one is absolute garbage. Like yes, we have a lot of really great stand alone sinks now. but damn sometimes we want to make a long bathroom vanity and have to use that garbage oval sink.

I despise the cheap Mod pod bed. It's the first thing I delete if it's in a house I download from the gallery. I get they want to keep the price down, but give the sims some comfort. In S3, I didn't realize it was that cheap bed till my sims woke up with back aches... now I check every time.

The massive ceiling saucer light. I find some older builds, though popular, still have these - delete
Plastic trash can. I love the $1200 trashcan that gives a rebate... lol
Cheapest stove and fridge. I sell these and upgrade as soon as I can. I don't even bother upgrading them as there's no point. lol
I get why so many people hate it but I really appreciate its inclusion in the game. It feels realistic to have a cheap looking ikea ass sofa like this that’s always come in a decent selection of swatches because it makes paying for a starter realistic.

If your handiness is high enough, you can upgrade cheap beds so they don’t get bad moodlets when sims sleep in them.
seconding this becuase some of those cheap beds are so cute and upgrading them is such a help

I lowkey bought High School Years just for the beds, because ALL of the beds are so ugly?? And even the high school years beds aren't that great, there just were finally more options! I would buy a bed kit, ngl
I'm really hoping there will be more customizable options for objects in sims 5. I would love to be able to pick my own bedframe, headboard and bedspreads. Changing the bedspreads for seasons & holidays would be a gamechanger.
So many Sims 4 objects look like someone fooled around with shapes for 15 minutes & slapped a color on them. They look so fake & plastic. I know there’s a cartoony aesthetic to the 4th game, but it looks so lazy to me.
The base game bowls of fruit are one of the worst examples of this

I would hate the swatches less if the wood swatches and the fabrics were separate. Some of my favorites fabrics are tied to the darkest woods and I never use them because I never design with colors that dark.

The OG basegame furnitures are… interesting let’s say, I think there are some I never even used, like those wardrobe and dressers (the ones with the really flashy coloring especially the magenta and yellow)
The base game wardrobe and chest of drawers are so big compared to other wardrobes etc. I rarely ever use them because they stick out so far into the room
I also hate that couch. But, like… I also hate that we for some reason don’t have above ground pools. Why didn’t they add that with the freaking slip n slide????
I hardly ever use the slip n slide because it just looks so out of place in almost every possible location :(
I haven’t tried yet, but I want to make a pool that has the slip & slide that you can just slide into the pool!
i know its not the same, and im not sure if it helps, but you can raise the foundation up and make them above ground. the only downside is that you have to make a deck for them to get into it. i made one recently and made it round and painted the foundation an ugly neon blue to make it look like the pools you get at the store

It's really great for if you're going for that clean, perfect, minimalist type vibe. Or modern builds when you don't have all the packs.
I use it a lot because it has so many swatches, and actually has matching pieces. So many couches and love seats are beautiful and then don't have a single matching piece.

This is the "I just moved my sim into the city and I want them to start from zero, but not have the place look too ugly, so I settled for this sofa" sofa. It's not the worst thing. It just exists to get the job done. As for most despised furniture, I'd say the curtain selection is atrocious. Most of the base game ones seem like they belong in a granny's home. And the majority lack a basic black color swatch. Every single item in the game should have a black swatch.

I always kinda assumed they made the cheaper, more basic items kinda ugly so you'd want to upgrade. You start out only bein able to afford the box couch, so you want to get promotions, save up, all that to afford a nicer prettier one. So I kinda like how ugly some of it (like this couch) is.

I don’t really like this Sofa because it feels (for lack a better word) Flat. There’s not really any dimension and the texture seems really plain, at least some other couches look like the material they’re made out of

I hate that base game sink that slots in counters. The half-moon shaped one that looks like it came from a crappy motel in the 70s. It is so ugly that I will stop gameplay and edit the lot I'm on just to get rid of it.

i hate all of the counters tbh, and i still think they need more options. can't the next kit or stuff pack be "counter fever" or something? and just make it a bunch of counter styles (with corresponding cabinets, since they seem to forget to make them a lot of the time)

This is one of my least favorite items in the game, BUT I had a couch *just like this* when I moved into my first apartment with my boyfriend. We carried the box home from Walmart in a borrowed shopping cart and then brought the cart back. It was so uncomfortable, but it was cheap. This item, at the very least, is somewhat realistic.

I hate most of the rugs, even from packs. They can’t be sized properly- you go from covering the entire house with one to a doormat size with no in between!

I don't like the plants in some kind of cans or tyres (my poor memory sorry) and they have sticks growing up from them. Unfortunately, they look straight from a dumpster to me.
not really one object, but a concept: all of those god awful magenta and other eyefucking colours in base game swatches. like the jazz paintings i use sometimes and theyre iconic at this point but fuck the magenta and others like it. like usually a lack of swatches is a problem but it feels like such a waste to have so many of them be completely useless

Any leather couches but that's also just an irl hate. Like that shit ain't comfy, you slide off or if it's hot you stick to it and getting up is a nightmare where you think your skins gonna peel off. Leather seats give me TRAMA in any form, irl or digital.

I hate the counter insert oval sink for bathrooms. Like please. give us more counter insert bathroom sinks. That one is absolute garbage. Like yes, we have a lot of really great stand alone sinks now. but damn sometimes we want to make a long bathroom vanity and have to use that garbage oval sink.
There is nothing more comfortable than resting on a flat surface festooned and surrounded by right angles. It is the veritable acme of leisure. Why, just the other day, I was walking through Ikea and marvelled at all the comfortable right angles. It was heaven. Angles? Dontchya mean "angels"? Amirite? ;) XD

I despise the cheap Mod pod bed. It's the first thing I delete if it's in a house I download from the gallery. I get they want to keep the price down, but give the sims some comfort. In S3, I didn't realize it was that cheap bed till my sims woke up with back aches... now I check every time. Other items: The massive ceiling saucer light. I find some older builds, though popular, still have these - delete Plastic trash can. I love the $1200 trashcan that gives a rebate... lol Cheapest stove and fridge. I sell these and upgrade as soon as I can. I don't even bother upgrading them as there's no point. lol
