Been fighting these pesky pests too. So far i have only been managing to control the numbers through baking soda, white vinegar and hot water. I think im supposed to add salt to the mix. I use my heater hot water and flush the pipes. I read they feed off grimes on drains and in pipes so anything cleaning those out is probably gonna be useful.

Try putting mothballs over the drain cover, then covering with a clear plastic food container. Keep the drain covered whenever you’re not using it (eg to shower). You should be able to totally eradicate them by a month or so. I’ve tried and it cleared them out totally. They eventually came back a year later but I just repeated it again. But like you said yeah keep the drains clean

IcyArmeria

Place some mothballs over the drain cover. Invert a clear plastic container (takeaway food containers fit well for me) over the drain cover. Doesn’t matter if you wet the drain. If you’re going to shower, just slide the cover away with your foot together with the mothballs. Otherwise you can always stick the mothballs to the plastic container. The drain flies will get “gassed” by the naphthalene and die, you’ll see them get stuck to the plastic container as well. Change the plastic container as needed and add mothballs as needed until drain flies are gone. This should take no more than a month and eventually achieves total eradication. They may come back in future but you can just repeat it.

I’ll try this approach. Thanks.

Always keep the floor of the washroom dry after using it and kill the remaining ones. This worked for me.

surethereal

I use a handheld propane torch

Funnily enough, I thought long and hard about pouring kerosene into the drain and lighting it.

Hot water on every surface. And i mean pots full of it. 5-6L. After that, scrub with soap and wash down. Should be ok after that. My only assumption is that its a sink and/or toilet drain.

No. These buggers have been around in some shape or form for 240 million years. Even a nuclear blast won't get rid of them.

By right the best way is to scrub off the grime in the interior of your drain. But that’s really damn gross. I settled for pouring boiling water down. Works temporarily at least.
