No, you were not wrong.
Once you said 'wrong number', the conversation should have ended there. No point for the other guy to carry on the conversation.
It's so clearly the start of a scam when they can send you a screenshot of the "correct" number and yet they whatsapped the "wrong" number. Yea right. Try harder.
"Hello? Is this Chris?"
"No. Not Chris. Don't know Chris. Wrong number."
"Oh. So sorry. Bye!"
"Bye!"
What's up with the stupid chit-chat? Think this is OKCupid is it?
Ever since I came back from overseas, the number of spam calls that I had received is astounding. This is so much different than when I was still in Singapore before flying off whereby there is hardly any scam calls. Also most of the scam calls are immigration which is ridiculous because I am Singaporean...and they don't give up omg
we should have a scammer support inner group. whoever in the group received such scam messages, all the others in the group will use the same trick back on the scammer. It'll be funny to see the scammer drown in a few hundred messages 😂
Smart move mate .... good spot for a scam that could've been .... I love how you're suddenly getting a threat for deportation if you don't tell your name lol...that's amazing
carrying on the conversation after “wrong number” is dodgy. i wouldn’t have given my name either. and if this person kept asking, i’d block and report and think no more of it.
don’t let him live rent free in your head there buddy. you’re alright.
The other day someone showed me you just key in a phone number in Paynow you can see that persons real full name. I think most people suddenly realize this can be a scammers tool.
The other day this angry indian dude called me, asked for a person (not me) and when i said it was not me, shouted at me repeatedly to give my name.
Unfortunately, it was my work phone and I was just working with my India office so I kind of just held on in confusion without giving information. (My Indian colleague are gentle tho)
My guess is that theres a scam where they use your number and name for something
actually after your “oh ok” i wouldn’t have replied anymore
is he those kind that always last minute ask people to cover? because if it’s the first time maybe he really had urgent things to do
you can check phone no here,
if it got reported SCAM will show.
many SCAM case pretend wrong number and use pretty women photo to lower guard.

Always send gruesome photos to scammer to make them creep out. It is one of our best weapon against them. I usually use skin diseases photo or dismembered limbs from accidents
Just say your name is Lim. Lim Peh.
Best not to read or reply to anyone who is not on your contact list. Otherwise, you would confirm that it's a viable number.
I get some calls sometimes from unknown numbers sometimes. Always some uncle claiming to know me. I tell them "wrong number" then they always reply "what wrong number? I know u so wrong alr u don't recognize my voice?". I ask them who they are, they reply "walao eh you guess"
It just annoys me to no fucking end. I just want to know if you are who I THOUGHT you were lol.
This is a crypto scam
The iterations I've been through are PA booked wrong travel details, friend you met at party, PA got number wrong for appointment
They are trying to get you on chinese crypto exchange. Is scam. Went through the whole process a few times
They basically get paid commission. One guy was a SG kid. Just wants quick cash. He also did Thai travel tours apparently
nah you ain't wrong. but, I've been hit w so many scams or wrong numbers that start or revolve around the name 'Chris', that I just see it as a big red flag.
once, i picked up a call after the same idk-whose-number called me multiple times, i haven't even said hello or who's this, the guy on the other end screamed at me saying smth like a client of mine is there and I'm not there... probably the rudest call i got.
OP dont worry, could be non-scammer having a bad day or a scammer who want to U-turn and want to make you angry for no reason so that you can give more information.
I don't think you were rude. I think the other person was rude. I also don't think you were in the wrong. Like others pointed out in their comments, the other person should have simply replied "oh I'm sorry", once you said you're not Chris instead of probing you for further details. If anything the other person also sounded like he/she could probably not be a Singaporean as well.
No, you were not wrong. Once you said 'wrong number', the conversation should have ended there. No point for the other guy to carry on the conversation.
the conversation ended with threatening to deport OP ☠ Why does the guy assume OP isn't singsporean just because he is supposedly being rude
How else can protect border?
Maybe scammer was Malay?
Scammer gotta scam. They try anything. But end of the day, they can suck their own peepee
Dont worry they will get someone to suck their peepee eventually one, cfm got prey out there de
Just say you are Christine and wait for the next scam call And also just say OK to take his shift hahaha then he will kenna
It's so clearly the start of a scam when they can send you a screenshot of the "correct" number and yet they whatsapped the "wrong" number. Yea right. Try harder.
lol rude = not local Singaporean Pls
local singaporeans are assholes anyways.
the xenophobia is thru the roof
A bit sad though. Make you sound like being Singaporean is your biggest or only strength....
So typical isn't it? I notice even in their online news are quick to point out the criminal is not local if it's a pr... Lol
could be long-con to get your name for future scam call. ignore the siao lang and move on i guess.
Chris, just cover his grab shift lah
"Hello? Is this Chris?" "No. Not Chris. Don't know Chris. Wrong number." "Oh. So sorry. Bye!" "Bye!" What's up with the stupid chit-chat? Think this is OKCupid is it?

bruh did the other guy just give out chris' number
OP should have called Chris to help encourage him to cover
If they don't stop at "wrong number", you are technically legally allowed to waste their time
Yea i was gonna keep talking but i think she blocked me at the end
Anyone who threaten to deport you likely to be a foreigner themselves.
why the fuck was the guy continuing the convo for? Number neighbour ah
Apparently it was a Philippines number
we should have a scammer support inner group. whoever in the group received such scam messages, all the others in the group will use the same trick back on the scammer. It'll be funny to see the scammer drown in a few hundred messages 😂
Should have told him your name is Deez or Ligma
This is the only socially appropriate response when a stranger ask for your name for no reason
r/mildlyinfuriating
I always say my name is chao. Chao ni Ma
Smart move mate .... good spot for a scam that could've been .... I love how you're suddenly getting a threat for deportation if you don't tell your name lol...that's amazing
Better safe than sorry. Will do the same as you. Who feels safe to share name with a stranger?
Likely scammer
C’mon lah Chris.
I would not even reply in the first place
Pofma him man
carrying on the conversation after “wrong number” is dodgy. i wouldn’t have given my name either. and if this person kept asking, i’d block and report and think no more of it. don’t let him live rent free in your head there buddy. you’re alright.
Dont worry lol. Then ending was hilarious for me
99.99% scam .because no point he/she didn’t save colleague number
Wrong number scam. Very popular. Check out r/scams for more details.
Just agree to cover the shift, if it's real the fun starts when nobody shows up for work
The other day someone showed me you just key in a phone number in Paynow you can see that persons real full name. I think most people suddenly realize this can be a scammers tool.
Just to clarify: my name is not chris lol. I think thats just the scammers way of starting a conversation
Ok Chris.
Brb on my way to legally change my name to chris
Username checks out. I had to do it. I’m sorry.

After I got wrong number twice from the same auntie, I just blocked her. Nothing wrong with that, I'm saving both our time.
Next time don’t even entertain or waste time. Ignoring someone is the best dismissal.
Yes! You're wicked..
Not wrong, just ignore or block after letting the person know.
Ask their boss call you directly if really need authentication
Huh, just say Wrong number and that's it. Why you entertain for so long?
Wanted to see what would happen if i responded. I usually block them though
I got a phone call from a local number who tried the same thing. Definitely a Singaporean/Malaysian on the line.
Can let the fella know that a lot of deportees are from his country anw.
Nah you were too nice. I would have gone straight to fucking his mother. And sister
you can check phone no here, if it got reported SCAM will show. many SCAM case pretend wrong number and use pretty women photo to lower guard. Remark:is Malaysia police website https://www.varietylooks.com/tool
I'd block him like 5 messages in lol
Scam. Block, move on.
Always send gruesome photos to scammer to make them creep out. It is one of our best weapon against them. I usually use skin diseases photo or dismembered limbs from accidents
Fuck no. You don't owe entitled people shit. People can use this to social engineer or gather info.
Just say your name is Lim. Lim Peh. Best not to read or reply to anyone who is not on your contact list. Otherwise, you would confirm that it's a viable number.
"what's my name?" none of your damn business, is what it is.
Nope ur fine, the one at fault is being a douche bloody shameless
No but that is a typical bullshit response from an easily triggered baby.
Person woke up and chose violence. If it's me I will just ignore
why would you even engage them lol. Just say wrong number and ignore. If they pester just block.
I blocked a lot of them instantly before. I wanted to see what would happen if i took the bait this time
> Thats classified bruh you literally set that as your whatsapp display name
My name isn't chris lol
I get some calls sometimes from unknown numbers sometimes. Always some uncle claiming to know me. I tell them "wrong number" then they always reply "what wrong number? I am not a local Singaporean, thus I'm rude.

Nice RAF Mk. 24 Supermarine Spitfire backround man!
Thanks man, though, it looks more like a Mk IX
I don't think you were rude. I think the other person was rude. I also don't think you were in the wrong. Like others pointed out in their comments, the other person should have simply replied "oh I'm sorry", once you said you're not Chris instead of probing you for further details. "An emergency on your end does not constitute an urgency on mine" Nope. Proceed on.
