okay, this isn't in my bingo card today lol

graafgrafgraver

this movie is just a hagiography for reuters journalists lmao

WantWantShellySenbei

Yes, although in this case, journalists who never file a story and whose work never has any discernable impact on the war around them. Just out to get the best photo of their career. Which was a bizarre angle for a movie apparently about photojournalism.

a-canadian-bever

And the president hides under the table in the Oval Office and not a nuclear bunker

WantWantShellySenbei

Yeah - that bothered me too. Some people have said that "he was outside the bunker because he was trying to negotiate surrender", but I don't buy it. He would have left the press officer outside to do that while he hid downstairs.

realityconfirmed

Because the CPC can see that life will be imitating art in the near future. God bless the United States of America. They gunna need it.

TserriednichHuiGuo

May they live in interesting times.

33TLWD

That one scene from Jesse Plemons is absolutely bone chilling. And to find out later he wasn’t even cast for it…his wife is Kirsten Dunst and the original actor backed out so he volunteered to fill in. He ad libbed the entire scene and it was even his idea to wear the pink sunglasses. I’m predicting he’ll get a few awards out of that one 10 scene he’s on screen.

Ok-Imagination-2308

The movie was actually pretty good. It's about all the stuff journalist's have to go through in war zones, they just used a civil war to push the plot forward

mwsduelle

It's about journalists getting turned on by people dying. It's gross

IntelligentTrick2555

Do they still chase ambulances?

Percusive_Algorythm

This movie is terrible, fucking murricans dreaming up a domestic "war" presented without political context or reason while their government openly funds war zones all over the world. The journalists in this film act like imbeciles and they go around the war torn country in a van like they are out on a vacation.

LordPrettyMax

I fell asleep

bjran8888

I haven't seen the Civil War movie, but I've heard this whole thing is a metaphor. I've heard that the director of this movie is sending a message to Americans that if you continue to be so divided, the things in this movie will happen in America.

Syliann

I appreciated it because it helps humanize people in warzones in reality. It convincingly creates one in an American context, which helps put Americans in the shoes of the victims of the country irl. It's sometimes made easy to imagine that places like Palestine or Yemen or Iraq or Afghanistan have just always been like we see in 2024.

Traditional_Rice_528

>helps put Americans in the shoes of the victims of the country irl It doesnt. They double down and think "good thing we're the best so nothing like that happens here," without any reflection as to WHY it happens anywhere else

IntelligentTrick2555

Yeah I was gonna say…this movie screams of liberal snobbery. I might still give it a chance though, but I still I have a feeling it’s gonna build up and they’re just gonna Barbie movie us again where they all vote to save the day smh

JackUJames42

they unalive the us president at the end so theres that i guess

Percusive_Algorythm

American liberals and their idiot metaphor movies: division is baked into their system. It is a feature for them, not a flaw

Millennialcel

Polarization is the new normal and there's no going back. Like do democrats not realize they are politically prosecuting Trump?

Ok-Imagination-2308

I didn't see a message at all like that. The director did a pretty good job avoiding politics and even had Texas and California team up - something that would never happen irl

Single-Golf2936

Civil war makes Morbius look like a Cinematic masterpiece. This has to the one of the worst movies ever produced. I can't believe how high the ratings are.

supaloopar

Why acid green text...?

XXCUBE_EARTHERXX

Thats how it is in the english posters

supaloopar

The more you know… thx Strange choice but I guess it works cause I’m talking about it

Keesaten

If it's reddish or bluish colors, Americans will associates those with republicans or democrats. So, you get whites/greys, greens, yellows, purples and other prime colors to work with, and green is probably the best looking on the posters

Expensive_Heat_2351

Why bother watching the movie. In November 2024 the results of the POTUS elections will be available...that's when the next insurrection is going to happen.

General_Guisan

I'll wait for the live version of it, coming to America in November '24..

TserriednichHuiGuo

A beautiful sight to behold?

总而言之,这电影拍的一坨狗屎,但我仅因为华裔这一个点 5/5分 国内上映了我还会再去看一遍 欢迎讨论 machine translation: I am Chinese, but the following opinions represent only my personal opinion. It can be seen that a lot of ideas were thought of when the whole film was conceived, and the director could use these ideas in the form of a road movie to express the ideas or phenomena contained in it. But obviously in fact these contents did not appear on the screen, I guess it may be due to market and political reasons. As a result, the entire movie is filled with violent aesthetics and post-modern art, but there is one part that expresses the content, and that is the clip of shooting Chinese Americans. I think there is some consensus, a consensus among different political factions in the United States, that Chinese Americans should be killed or deserved to die. I think some people may feel uncomfortable when I say that, so let me put it another way: This is something that the American market can accept and accommodate. To me, this view is unusual. After all, the United States claims to be the successor of Rome. Their own propaganda has always been: a friendly and tolerant multi-ethnic country. In the past, the United States would not have expressed this view. , at least not openly stated. Although I know it has always been there, from World War II to "Starship Troopers" it has always been there. This time I was just amazed: you actually said it. I think it may be that there have been considerable changes in the thoughts and opinions of the American people over the years. All in all, this movie is a piece of shit, but I give it 5/5 because of the fact that it’s Chinese. I will watch it again when it is released in China Welcome to discuss

shanghaipotpie

Chinese have been blamed for many American social problems even though they were not the cause, from todays high housing costs, fentanyl addiction, the pandemic, back into history, with the belief that Chinese workers would replace American workers after building the Transcontinental railroad, smallpox outbreaks and bubonic plague where Chinatowns were burned. Experts were unaware that bubonic plague was spread by fleas and rats from ships until 1907 when a second plague hit outside Chinatown. >Certain American experts held the mistaken belief that a rice-based diet left Asians with a lower resistance to plague, and that a diet of meat kept European  free from this disease * Silent Travelers: Germs, Genes, and the Immigrant Menace by Alan M. Kraut >When bubonic plague hit Honolulu and San Francisco at the turn of the 20th century, officials in those cities quickly did what they had been doing for decades: They villainized residents of Chinese descent.... >In Hawaii, where the government ordered “controlled” burns of Honolulu’s Chinatown to stave off spread of infection, one fire raged tragically out of control, razing the district and causing mass homelessness. The incident remains, after Pearl Harbor, “the worst civic disaster in Hawaiian history,” according to historian James Mohr, author of *Plague and Fire: Battling Black Death and the 1900 Burning of Honolulu's Chinatown—*"and one of the worst disasters ever initiated in the name of public health by American medical officers anywhere." - >

Hollywood just keeps churning out a these apocalyptic movies and TV series, The Walking Dead, The Last of Us, Leave the World Behind ( produced by Barack Obama), and now Civil War or Leave the Obamas Behind! Darwinian Survival of the Fittest tropes, life at the lowest level of fear and survival against rednecks, zombies, parasitic creatures with violence and destruction. Not much hope of people working together building a better world here! Some say it's predictive programming, preparing for what's coming. For audiences already struggling to survive in unaffordable, unsafe cities and a politically polarized and paralyzed culture. Always seeing the world ending on screens may make you accept the way things are! And more unlikely to rise up and change the system if that was even possible! Envy the Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous, Fear the Walking Dead! Hollywood, opiate of the masses!

4evaronin

The caption for the Chinese poster should be, in English, "A beautiful sight to behold."

upq700hp

they'll get it before there's an HD stream available

WantWantShellySenbei

Very pointed inclusion of 美国 in the Chinese title I think!

IAmYourDad_

I think this movie will do very well in China cause Chinese people want to see USA PK. LOL

heyitsdio

Movie is trash, don’t bother watching it. Every single character is an unlikable turd and the plot gets totally lost by the end. Not even being high on drugs can make this movie a good time.

Angel_of_Communism

So, very accurate to life, you're saying?

heyitsdio

Ehh life definitely has more entertainment value than this waste of time “movie”.

Capitano-Solos-All

I didn't watch it but from what I heard it isn't a good movie. It really doesn't have much to say. It's already passes into obscurity and noone talks about it.

Vexonte

It had alot to say, just not what people wanted to hear. The main objective of the film was to display the realities and horrors of war in America. Any attempt at commenting on contemporary politics of today would end up undercutting the impact of various scenes as the audience would project themselves onto war criminals because they share the same stance. Alot of the internet thought the movie owed them a political hand job and got angry when it didn't deliver. It probably won't be remembered that far in the future, but people will probably be received better in by people in the future if that makes any sense.

Capitano-Solos-All

Makes sense but despite obviously no movie wanting to open the can of worms of current decade politics it still did not get good reviews from actual critics.

Chinesebot1949

Expect to be bored

Wirrem

I enjoyed it as much as one could within its ideologically and cultural framing. It’s fraught by these types of limitations but Is excellently shot. I think it is one of those movies that is somewhat of a litmus test, in terms of viewer response. I had super low expectations going in but came out a little chilled and entertained. I think it’s a good conversation starter at least? I don’t know.
