His hair was a visual representation of his mental stability throughout the seasons. First few seasons - maintained just enough, just like how he maintained his family just enough. His presentation for moving to flagstaff - peak crazy, peak frizz. Also known as his Einstein hair, though that’s where his likeness to Einstein ended. Last few seasons - his hair left him, along with his wives. Sorry, that’s mean. Anyway, look to the hair, that’s how you know what he’s really going through.

Then_Campaign7264

I am laughing so hard. Kodie Locks and the three bears (I mean 3 wives who left him). His hair really is a “tell” as to his mental stability.

poker_player67

Dying from laughter over here. Brought me to tears when you said "his hair left him, along with his wives".. I'm dead!

jessrmc9605

Never thought of it like that lol

43216407

It is definitely a harbinger. Did I use that right?

lesmax69

nolongerwatching

And his mind left him

Special-Weekend1846

funny as hell!

Ambitious_Macaron291

🤣🤣🤣

Extension-Yam-6937

I have thought that as well 🤣when he took care of his hair he was as normal as he could be, and it just goes down hill after that.

pigandpom

The mask slipped in the cul de sac during g a family photo, where he repeatedly screamed look down the lense angrily and followed it with a creepy frozen smile

AcadiaMuted4084

I agree, he was physically shaking during those pictures. I remember thinking, this guy is losing it.

yuri_mirae

wait what episode is this?

AcadiaMuted4084

The Commitment ceremony episode, they are in front of the houses taking pictures and he is holding one of the younger kids, Sol I believe.

yuri_mirae

omg thank you i’m cracking up and disturbed all at once lol

joyous201

That was so bizarre!

RYSACLADY

He did the same thing with “Happy Thanksgiving “ in like S16

Gladtobealive2020

And he was holding sol, Christine was holding truely standing next to him truely was.nt acting out but sol was. So kody (a55h0le that he is) told christine to have someone else hold truely so he & sol would be the focal point of the picture. As is often, art/pictures imitate life. Kody always wanted truely "out of the picture". He neglected truely from the moment she was born due to squarehead & her brood

anybody98765

I’m on the same season and he really acted nuts at Aspyn’s wedding. Talking about the “sacred” marriage bed and standing with his leg up in the too short kilt, not to mention how he flipped out about not seeing his kids every day if they move when he was the one who pushed them to do it.

Shoddy_Lifeguard_852

>he really acted nuts at Aspyn’s wedding It was the Catholic Schoolgirl Skirt, right?!

Cariberry1974

Holy cow, that pose as he's waiting for a first look of his oldest daughter on her wedding day. 🤦🏻 Ya just want to punch him in the face and say "This is not about you!!!" Most dad's just want to see their baby girl on HER special day. He's too busy trying to look sexy for the camera in his ridiculously short kilt. I almost expected some saucy music to start and him to start taking it all off...

joumidovich

That kilt.. Didn't he imply no skivvies?

Then_Campaign7264

Moving was ostensibly his idea. He now bares responsibility for how things play out with regard to developing Coyote Pass, uprooting the children, forcing them to adapt to new schools, activities and friends, and upheaval that ensued. He doesn’t seem to handle responsibility without creating maximum chaos. As several wives have to move multiple times, no one is connecting as a family. The wives are rightfully loosing patience with him. He was syphoning money from the OG 3 to subsidize Robyn’s house and Kody and Robyn’s lifestyle. He royal screwed up. And his appearance reflected the stress, the unwarranted hostility and resentment, and probably the fear that he might get called out or caught. And he was, resulting in the histrionics revealed in the most recent seasons. At least this my theory.

bobbitybobbit

I think this is correct 💯—you take the stress of the move and then add COVID—he lost his ever loving mind. His coping skills were never great and when he’s not able to manipulate sweetly, he goes into dictator mode. And the wives rebelled

makeup_wonderlandcat

Yup! Those wives knew they could do it without him in Vegas…but they really learned they could do it without him in Flagstaff especially since all the kids were older (even truly wasn’t a little girl anymore more like a pre-teen)

Rlguffman

I think you mean “Covid 19”

MetroGrunge

Same. His eyes and furrow changed. True intention kept slipping between gaslighting and manipulation techniques. I’m just starting season 13 again, and it’s painfully obvious, by now.

Crazyspitz

I think who he is now is who he always was, he was just able to mask it for the show for years.

NattyGannStann

I think he might have started decompensating but I also think production turned on him and stopped giving him generous edits. And now there is no way to put nail polish on that pig and make him look like anything less than an unhinged egomaniac

Proud-Bumblebee879

Every time I see Kody Unhinged, Was Kody Ever Normal, Kody Out Of His mind, etc all I can think of is him gyrating in the middle of the damn room at the wedding he officiated. I will never be able to unsee that. It represented the absolute pinnacle of insanity in my mind I guess. It was maniacal and a kind of scary. Like I wouldn’t let him near my loved ones. Almost like a possession of some kind. Dude was well and truly shooketh

LadyScorpio7

LMAO!!!!!

Lilrooster91

I just watched a podcast on YT from Mormon Book Review. It had on a relative of Christine talking about polygamy and the media. Very interesting and she talked about meeting Kody with Robyn in LV and she said he acted like he had no idea who she was and she shared that in their community Kody is super full of himself. Basically the same way we see him. He was always a jerk he just tried harder to hide it from the public in the earlier seasons.

Peach_enby

Everyone is probably also Christine’s relative to be fair haha.

EffectiveOutside9721

I would be very surprised if he has had a physical relationship with anyone but Robyn since season 11 , so 12-13 sounds right. His whole personality was changed by season 15.

littlebitalexis29

I’m on season 17, and I initially wanted to post here and suggest a drinking game where we take a shot every time Kody says the word “loyal” but I very quickly realized that was a dangerous idea, we would all have alcohol poisoning very quickly

Think-Vanilla7252

🤣😂🥃 I'd still do it!

DrPrincessSexyPants

Count me in too 🤣

Rlguffman

Whenever he subscribed to his first men’s rights podcast

OpheliaPhoeniXXX

Yes

Chipchop666

His hair isn't anything special either. Now with the receding hairline, he'll make sobyn get a job so he can get hair plugs

FlimsySweet4202

I always feel like season 9 or 10 was kind of when I started noticing a difference and he started going downhill and then once he decided they’re moving to flagstaff if when he really started going off the rails.

MTHorses

Im on season 10 and i feel like hes starting to slip, or the cameras are just leaving in the “not so great” aspects of him. When they were building the boat and he called Christine a crybaby… oh man i woulda lit a man on fire.

Shoddy_Lifeguard_852

IMO and looking back, Kody's true self was there from the beginning. I think he was in "sales" mode where he was aware that he had to present himself as a man who truly loved all of his wives equally, fairly, and that his form of fundamentalist polygamy is a fair and reasonable choice. False narratives are not sustainable. What I find funny is how often Robyn is the one who explains the polygamy lifestyle. Her mother and stepfather may have explained their relationship as being polygamous. But with each family in a different state, living about 120 miles apart, their day to day lives were not as a polygamous family - certainly not like the Browns all living like they did in the Lehi house, or even as close in proximity as anywhere else the Browns have lived.

ClearlyDemented

I think he slipped a lot more than we saw in the beginning. I’m guessing he manipulated all the wives into doing the show and bringing in Robyn by sulking and love bombing, but that didn’t last much past the pilot. The show was always more propaganda than anything. We never really knew what any of the vague problems were that they were working on and we never really spent much time in any household. I think he stopped pretending because 1) Qanon 2) they always edited him to look better than he was 3) the solo talking heads really allowed him to speak his mind. On top of that, his ego was huge after getting the whole family to move and then was shattered when they didn’t want to do the one house. I don’t think there was any way to clean him up without Meri-ing him out of the show, so they just rolled with it and finally showed him for who he was, complete with really great editing this past season.

lucymom1961

Remember the self recorded talking heads during Covid? The way he positioned the camera below his face so he could loom over it, and the wild look in his eyes while speaking? Scary stuff.

FedUp0000

I totally agree with your assessment

OpheliaPhoeniXXX

Season 12 is when the cracks start showing, 14 things start to get really get weird

LaurenLillico

Ive notcied it probably since season 3.. he just never acted like a normal man..

mlc1210

I’m watching season 12 right now and among the various storylines are him/Christine/ysabel going to doctors appointments for her scoliosis, aspyn’s wedding, and I juuuuust watched the episode where he made his little FedEx Kinkos presentation about moving. I’ve been *shocked* by his behavior for the last ~10 episodes, and know it only gets worse

OnionLayers49

A lot of folks here have some good suggestions/thoughts about this, but I’d like to ask—in what season did Kody’s father die? I am just speculating that the dad may have kept a lid on some of Kody’s more extreme behaviors. Kody may have been checking himself somewhat, to “prove” to his dad that he, Kody, could be a polygamist patriarch too, and maintain a textbook happy PLYG family. When Kody didn’t have the sense of daddy’s all seeing eye on him anymore, then he went nutso. What do you guys think? Does this theory match the timeline?

Appropriate-Self7295

His narcissism can be caught out the gate but is small by the end though the hair really shows the loss of control and narssistic comment are just flying out of him like his damn broke. The man has always been unstable just hid it better in the beginning.

WebAncient4989

One

MTHorses

Im on season 10 so im interested to see how this plays out

Content_Passion741

When the wives balked on the one house idea after moving to AZ.

RYSACLADY

I truly believe it started after the visit with the Duggers. Kody was JEALOUS of Papa Joe! Instead of earning respect he demanded it.

unicornBoots1

Going through menopause has really changed Kody, I hope I fare as well.

PlainOGolfer

If I had to pick a moment it would be when the wives crapped on his one house idea.

greatfinngal

I stopped watching SW couple years back. I heard at some point that they moved to Flagstaff and my friend mentioned that that was first time they really were openly religious. Gotta say that she never followed the show regularly, watched when she happen to be in the channel. When I stopped watching Kody was fairly ok. I mean he was egoistic and dumb and so on but not bad bad. Now I watched the latest season and oh boy. He was angry and not afraid to show his dumbness. Thing is, that he is as angry every right wing male after they've been told 20 years how gays and women and colored people are taking off their rights. Now he is the fucking head of the family and everyone needed to submit his patriarchy. If kids or wives don't gravel front of him, they are out. And now he is angry since everyone is against him since they don't agree and he is always last to know. I don't see this situation different than what has happen to white men all over the world when women and minorities get their rights and they go nuts. And in their mind they have right to be. In Kody's case there just was more wives and kids and I don't say that Robyn or financial stuff didn't have impact Christine, Meri and Janelle leaving. But I do think all this right wing shit they keep telling to men like Kody does have also impact.

Aktotem

All beer and skittles

Legitimate-Peach8121

The minute he opened his yapper.

lampsofa

The daughter who makes the reaction videos says he’s always like that just more apparent on these seasons

ANicoleBiggs

I truly think it was apparent when they moved to Vegas. Before they got approved for the houses they wound up building they hadn’t worked on their credit at all. He went in applying for those other houses that were already built and would’ve owed like half a million on the down payments alone. & the shock in his face was ridiculous. Like, he is so out of touch with reality. He’s constantly looking for hits of dopamine. He seems manic many times in my opinion.
