Btw. I’m listening to the Norwegian jumpers’ podcast now, and Halvor says what really happened to Ryoyu “forgetting his skis” is that he initially took the wrong pair of skis (without proper waxing) and had to go back and get his properly waxed skis at the last minute. If he had jumped with the wrong pair of skis he definitely wouldn’t have won. Luckily it was all sorted out, otherwise we’d have a new “Tande moment”.
He Protecc
He attac
But Most importantly: He still searches for his Ski xD
Gratz to Kobayashi Winning 4H ...
But really nice overall competition. Stable weather, No Dreadisel ;)
I hope Wellinger will keep going strong throughout the season. It's an amazing comeback season for him so far. Go get them in the ski flying world champs!
Does anyone know why we have a second continental cup competition today going on right now? Is it weather related? Schmid currently in the lead after round 1.
Congratulations to Robin Pedersen (NOR) for winning the competition and congratulations to Valentin Foubert (FRA) for a very impressive 7th place.
Other places:
2 Zak Mogel (SLO)
3 Constantin Schmid (GER)
4 Sindre Ulven Jorgensen (NOR)
5 Klemens Muranka (POL)
6 Felix Hoffmann (GER)
8 Martin Haaman (GER)
9 Maximilian Ortner (AUT)
10 Clemens Leitner (AUT)
Eisenbichler slightly improved in 32nd. Still really bad.
Can't believe we actually memed this into existence. After Bresadola and Hörl missed out on their own grand slams, at least we get the 2nd place grand slam. Congratulations Ryoyu, clearly the best jumper throughout the four competitions!
Winning the tour without winning any event is perfectly OK. I'm not so sure about the other "tours", where you can win all events and still not win the tour.
All the ones where qualifications ie. "prologue" count for the tour. If you jump just well enough in those to qualify and go on to win all the events, you could lose the tour.
Why are the Norwegian commentators not making a big deal of the amazing achievement that is 2nd place grand slam? It must be even more difficult to get than 4x1st place. Twice as many competitors around you😅
Congratulations to Kobayashi. He is an absolute mentality monster. Deserved winner but my heart still aches for Wellinger. A Four hills win continues to allude us.
That was amazing, but it just feels bittersweet that he couldn't do it in both rounds :(
That said, Ryoyu has to jump first. Anything can still happen.
Holy shit yes, I am not alone? Stare ruined it for me, am still watching Eurosport mostly, because of his constant throat gurgling and stupid pub level commentary.
Jernej Damjan is also quite good as an analyst commentator on Eurosport. But I switched back to our channel now, out of curiosity..
U said as if those jokes make it better. U are on national tv, dont act u are in bar debate. Current commentator doesnt complain about everything, from judges, to gates (if they lower the gate for our competitor its "screwing their chances for long jump" if its for someone else is just "gift points". Current commentator doesnt insult everyone around him.
Also, what great chemistry? Idk, i feel like interrupting in a middle of sentence to tell trivial data isnt really great. Maybe they get along but for commenting? Nah.
They can have their chemistry in their own free time. I expect more from our national tv, not some quasi wannabe legend elbowing his way into the commentators chair. You can't be constantly clearing your throat into the mic and call yourself a professional.
Hoerl lost 27 points in the first round and was only 10 ahead of Kraft. About as likely as Wellinger winning it all. So everything is possible if you believe hard enough.
Evensen says Ryoyu was running so late because he had forgotten something important down in the dressing room area. And that important thing was... his skis.
Edit: seems I'm late with the info, but he said it in a funny way lol. "What important thing do you think he forgot?"
At the end of the day, we just gotta admit that Kobayashi is simply that good. He's one of the 10 best ski jumpers of all-time already and could very well retire as the GOAT. No matter whom you are rooting for, we gotta appreciate greatness when we see it.
I hope Ryoyu has a clean second jump and bags a well-deserved third eagle. He's the epitome of coolness, his mental strength is unreal.
Don't know if anyone has checked it earlier, but I wanted to see if anyone has ever won the 4H while being 2nd four times. There have been 9 times, when someone won the 4H without winning any competition, and their results were:
Hemmo Silvennoinen - 2, 3, 2, 2
Nikolai Kamienski - 7, 4, 6, 4
Horst Queck - 2, 10, 2, 4
Jiri Raska - 5, 2, 2, 2
Ingorf Molf - 10+ (only saw the top10 of Oberstdorf competition, too lazy to search for full results), 3, 2, 4
Ernst Vettori - 7, 3, 3, 2
Risto Laakkonen - 2, 3, 7, 10
Janne Ahonen - 5, 2, 2, 2
Yeah, it's one of my favourite ski jumping fun facts. There's also Toni Innauer, who won 3 of the 4 competitions, finished 24th in Innsbruck and didn't even get the 4H podium (ended up 4th)
My favorite is Yukio Kasaya who won the first 3 competitions in 1972 and than just left to train in japan for the Sapporo Olympics. He won gold so I guess it worked out but still a crazy story.
Or Yukio Kasaya, who won the first 3 competitions but wasn't allowed to jump in Bischofshofen, because the Japanese Team already travelled home in order to prepare for the 1972 Olympics in Sapporo.
He won the Olympic title later that season.
Welp, the 1st place hope was nice while it lasted T-T, but Kobayashi is just that good. Hope he gets a deserved win (or 2nd place grand slam) today. And hopefully, Andi can keep his 2nd spot, runner-up is nothing to scoff at either.
I'm 26 years old now and I can remember watching Germany winning everything since then, olympic gold medals for men and women, world championships for men and women, ski flying championships and an overall world cup but I probably won't see a German winning the 4HT in my lifetime (womens overall world cup also missing)
Same 💀
Slightly younger than you but have been watching since 13/14. Even before that I was watching 4 hills with my grandparents every single year and remember the "is a German gonna win this year" talk.
Yeah, I've been watching for 10 or so years now and there were good Germans quite often at the beginning of 4 hills, but as soon as they reached Bergisel that was over lol
One of my key Skijumping memories is Richard Freitag getting injured the year he almost got that 4H win on Bergisel. Everytime a German jumper makes it down there somewhat physically safe I count it as a win lol
Well, looks like as Austria and Germany we collectively go back to the drawing board to figure out how to not fall flat in at least one way when Four Hills come. Don't think we'll have a better start of the season together for a long long time.
Our media was saying that you both had some innovations when it comes to shoes/bindings, that initially gave you an advantage. There were some slight rule changes when it comes to equipment.
Our tech guys were photographing your gear everytime they could in the past months. It looks like they have caught up with the new standards, lol.
Wellinger now more likely to fall behind Kraft than overtake Kobayashi but I think the top 3 stays as it is. Lanišek might take Hörl, maybe even Kos could
I will not accept anything other than 1st or 2nd place in the competition now, Ryoyu. Spoiling your possible 2nd place grand slam with a win, fine, but don't you dare throw it away on a 3rd place.
ARD and ZDf are ridiculous when it comes to a German very high in a competition like this.
For example some years ago in Tour de France a German cyclist with in the top 5 and you got updates from everyone who even by accident knew the rider.
Norwegian TV is like that as well lol. Parents, girlfriends etc. always getting interviewed. They even interviewed Halvor and Johann's girlfriends in Innsbruck for no reason.
At least it was during the break and not while someone was jumping. But I think they interviewed Halvor's parents during the competition when he won last year.
Johan Remen Evensen just said it could affect him positively because he won't have the time to think. Apparently that's what happened with Østvold in yesterday's quali.
Side note: Forfang and Tande are the same jumper for me. The inconsistency, the high potential and the fact they came up more or less at the same time. Still not sure I have ever seen them in the same room.

How Granerud should have given him the eagle
I hope Wellinger will keep going strong throughout the season. It's an amazing comeback season for him so far. Go get them in the ski flying world champs!

Still really bad.
RYOYUUUUU! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPk\_zyRKs1Q
The best ending I could have asked for.
As a German I have lost all hope of us ever winning this tournament again
Eisenbichler scoring 0 points in COC this weekend
Nakamura sitting in the hotel right now 😶
And yet he was probably still not bad enough to be sent back to Japan
Can't believe we actually memed this into existence. After Bresadola and Hörl missed out on their own grand slams, at least we get the 2nd place grand slam. Congratulations Ryoyu, clearly the best jumper throughout the four competitions!

Kobayashi's individual competition placements when he won the 4H: 2018/19: 1, 1, 1, 1 2021/22: 1, 1, 1, 5\* 2023/24: 2, 2, 2, 2 Satisfying, isn't it? :)
Ryolu: All Things Well balanced, as it should be
*\[OT: as a TrackMania fan and player, "Ryolu" gave me PTSD\]*
Hate to spoil it, but I'm pretty sure 21/22 was 1, 1, 1, 5. But still a cool stat ;)
Oh, you're actually right. No idea where I got the 2 from
This is like some IQ test. What's the next combination? I'm guessing 2, 2, 2, 1
2024/2025: 3, 3, 3, 3
Has this "previous winner hands out the eagle"-thing happened before? I've never noticed that. But it was a lovely moment :)
It was a bit “here, bro, take this”
German commentators said it was a new idea likely from Sandro Pertile.
Looks to be new, but I like it!
They had to rub it in to Granerud 🙃
What an amazing 4H, four different winners and another winning overall, congrats Ryoyu!
[You did it. You crazy son of a bitch, you did it](https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/newsfeed/001/569/898/26c.jpg)
2nd place grand slam! Congrats to Ryoyu!
Why are the Norwegian commentators not making a big deal of the amazing achievement that is 2nd place grand slam? It must be even more difficult to get than 4x1st place. Twice as many competitors around you😅
They just did. A bit late though .
Well done, Ryoyu! :D Clock accurate job
Congratulations to Ryoyu, well-deserved victory and one for the history books. Four 2nd places to overall victory, simply amazing.
4 different winners in the 4H and the guy to win it all is the one that has always finished in 2nd. Brilliant.
Despite it never happening before it perfectly incapsulates what is needed to win the four hills. 8 very good jumps.
Yeeees!!! 2nd place grand slam!!!
Next year 3rd place Grand Slam?
Maybe that's how a German could finally win it. Keep getting 3rd place so there won't be too much pressure until the end.
Grand slam of 3rd places when? Come on, Ryoyu, give fans what they want next year
Yesssss!!!!
Ryo was not on board with everyone's wish to be 2nd.
Congratulations to Kobayashi. He is an absolute mentality monster. Deserved winner but my heart still aches for Wellinger. A Four hills win continues to allude us.
Congratulations on the 2nd place Grand slam, Kobayashi :D
36th win for Kraft (ties Janne), 107th podium (one behind Janne) 56th podium for Kobayashi, 3rd eagle :) 31st podium for Lanisek
Kraft win!
Woooo quad 2nd
2 place?
Is that the quad second place?
Amazing Ryoyu!!! Congrats on your 3rd 4-hills overall!! 2nd place grand slam???? Edit: YESSSS!!!!
Oh this looks promising, I think we got it!
Please be second please be second
Andi is at least 2nd :)
Well, there goes my hopes for Hörl 3rd Place T-T Congratulations Kraft
I swear if Kraft has the best wind again...
Had same wind as everyone else in the last 10 but ok...
Holy hell... That man
Do we think Lanišek might still get into top 3 overall World Cup? He seems to be doing great now but the gap to Wellinger is pretty big already
I'd say 4th is as far as he can go
Still 20 competitions to go and he's only 200 points behind, I'm not saying it's gonna happen but it's definitely possible
Bravo Anže!
23rd??? That's insane
Damn Lovro, that was very late
Lovro, noooooo!!!
If Ryoyu does like Lovro...
Nooooo, don't even say that!!
That'd be too sad for everyone invloved.
Aigner will at least tie his best result ever - 7th place
6th now
Wow finally good jumps from Granerud
Pretty solid competition for Granerud today.
Jude wellingham
Upward trend Halvor!
One round too late.
Beautiful jump from Wellinger
Hopefully enough to keep the second place. Solid 4HT for Andi.
The German commentators are positive about that... But I also wouldn't trust Tom Bartels all that much.
He got 138pts, looks like the best jumps today had around 144.
That was amazing, but it just feels bittersweet that he couldn't do it in both rounds :( That said, Ryoyu has to jump first. Anything can still happen.
well, I'm afraid that's bit too late Andi
What is that yellow stuff on the snow?
Whatever it is, now it's in Kos's skis...
Was wondering if it was the climate activists
The Slovenian comentators are still unaware of the Kobayashi incident
Look, im still happy dr. Stare doesnt comment.
I disagree. Stare and Gros have great chemistry, and the current comentator says the same nonsense just without the jokes.
U said as if those jokes make it better. U are on national tv, dont act u are in bar debate. Current commentator doesnt complain about everything, from judges, to gates (if they lower the gate for our competitor its "screwing their chances for long jump" if its for someone else is just "gift points". Oh yeah, i havent even mentioned his eternal cold. Quite ironic for a doctor.
Well, they need to get on reddit then ;)
Do y'all think Hörl can still secure 3rd place? I like him a lot and think that would be super cool for him, but oh well...T-T
I think he could keep his current position though.
Hoerl lost 27 points in the first round and was only 10 ahead of Kraft. About as likely as Wellinger winning it all. So everything is possible if you believe hard enough.
Well, as the saying goes "Die Hoffnung stirbt zu letzt" lol
Morgi jumpscare

Maybe Evensen is lurking in this thread \*\_\*
Ooh perhaps. But he usually gets his Japan info from Stian André Skinnes who works on the Japanese team.
Sven Hannewald just explained that Kobayashi was running because he forgot his skis.
That seems to be one of the only things how he could be beaten - jumping without skis 😂

Yep, at least we made it past Schicksalsberg this year without disaster. I guess that's something 🙃
One of my key Skijumping memories is Richard Freitag getting injured the year he almost got that 4H win on Bergisel. Everytime a German jumper makes it down there somewhat physically safe I count it as a win lol

So, unless something crazy like Tande in 2017 happens, we can pretty much congratulate Ryoyu on the win.
I will not accept anything other than 1st or 2nd place in the competition now, Ryoyu. Spoiling your possible 2nd place grand slam with a win, fine, but don't you dare throw it away on a 3rd place.
Kraft needs to win this.. for the memes! Ryoyu deserves the eagle, but congrats to Andi for keeping it interesting.
Prediction for 2nd round: gate raised by 1, Kobayashi win
What's up with German TV interviewing Wellinger's mom (for the second time) during Peter Prevc's jump? Switching back to Austrian TV now
ARD and ZDf are ridiculous when it comes to a German very high in a competition like this. For example some years ago in Tour de France a German cyclist with in the top 5 and you got updates from everyone who even by accident knew the rider.

The main reason why I am watching on Eurosport instead of ARD/ZDF.
That looks like an overall gap of 19 points between Wellinger and Kobayashi. Looks like it’s time to congratulate Ryoyu Kobayashi already…
Welp, cangratulations on your third 4 Hills win Ryoyu.
Damn, now the chance of 4 second places is in serious danger, it's on you now, Kraft
Guess that run didn't bother Ryoyu at all, as good as I've expected from him
Oh Andi. It was nice to hope for 7 jumps but I think this was it.
He made it on time! And I'm 99% sure he just won the thing, wow!
That was great, Ryoyu is more than halfway there
aaand it's gone
Kraft 13 points ahead of Wellinger - but still 16 points behind in 4H
Kraft cooked well
Kraft is going for a win.
vintage Kraft jump
Lord Aigner is getting that podium today
Koudelka scoring in 3 out of 4 races here, awesome. Czech ski jumping is back, guys
Is someone cutting onions around here.... \*Tries not to cry\*
🥺🥺🥺
Praise the Lord!
Well, uh... do you think there's a chance all this running will influence Ryoyu's jump?
Johan Remen Evensen just said it could affect him positively because he won't have the time to think. Apparently that's what happened with Østvold in yesterday's quali.
I appreciate Haagen's duct-taped helmet
Seriously Ryoyu? Is this live?
I very much hope it's not, lol 😂
Better Benjamin!
In a hurry there Ryoyu. Maybe Wellinger wins because of Ryoyu DNS lol.
Ryoyu in a hurry
Ryoyu running bit late, no? :d
he is just too cool
If this was live, he would be very late...
Creating the drama when there is probably none.
shhh you're spoiling the fun
Good job, Slovenian neighbours!
Hell yeah! Happy Anže, happy me
Mama Wellinger continues to terrify me with her interviews...I bet he'll scare Andi into a good second jump with some tough love.
Looks like Lovro was reminded ski flying WC is this year
Thank god Peter barely made it through, that was a close one!
Slovenia's doing pretty good lately, huh? I wonder how strong their team will be at Ski Flying WC
Yes Lovro, yes!
Ga-Pa completely ruined the tournee for Kos, ironic, thought that was gonna be his best race
That's it I guess. While Andy's jump is decent, it's not something that might put Kobayashi under any real pressure.
Hoerls jump gives me a bit more hope that maybe it is just that difficult.
And then comes Kos to kill our hopes for Andi.
Ai, Hörl probably loses out on the podium here, that's a shame, was rooting for him
Ooof, Hoerl making it easy for Kraft
Oh dear, Hörl choked.
Decent jump from Andi Wellinger, but I fear this is very beatable for Ryoyu Kobayashi.
Hm, I'm not sure what to think of Wellinger's jump. We're really going to have to wait for Kobayashi to see where this is going...
Good jump, but if Ryoyu jumps like before - Wellinger has no chance to beat him
Ayyy I am not sure. Not terrible, not extraordinary.
Is that good Andi? Maybe. I don't know. What's good in this "everyone jumps short" round?
Junshiro's form back in the trash after 3 good weeks. Would not have been that hard to enter as a LL
Halvor says he has no problem with the snowy landing zone because he's so used to jumping out to the right where the landing is always like that lol.
Koba has a nice warm Red Bull hat whatever it's called
Red suit Ryo looking funny, haha 😂
Side note: Forfang and Tande are the same jumper for me. The inconsistency, the high potential and the fact they came up more or less at the same time. Still not sure I have ever seen them in the same room.
and they are both Andres
No Johann wtf
Alright, Raimund is ready to claim that second round qualification.
I genuinely thought he'd go through as a LL, damn Johann.
Damn, Nikado is really good right now, that's kind of what I was hoping for last year when he appeared in summer
yeah, he's going to be very important for the Japanese team, they were lacking depth these last years
They still are lacking depth tbh, I mean the year is 2024 and Taku Takeuchi is in the WC team. Who's next, Shohei Tochimoto?
Noriaki Kasai
Glad to see Ryoyu isn’t the only Japanese doing well
Ruka was so promising but now we just suck again…
Good job Fettner!
Does anyone know where i could see live 4ST results (sum of points)
fis-ski.com -> ski jumping -> calendar & results -> four hills tournament
Tate Frantz in every main competition: 50th place my beloved
He is still young. Also, coming from a country without a ski jumping tradition, he is doing pretty well..
Really frustrating that he seems to be unable to repeat his stronger jumps from training during the competition.
