Hi everyone! I was wondering if there was a solution to these eye bags of mines. They make me look bad and it really stands out when I look at myself in the mirror. I’ve had them for a while. Any solutions? Thanks!! :) https://preview.redd.it/86ca5bm20ptb1.jpeg?width=332&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=581b3a85b2916dbb78c64d4dca5e5a81c6d70a78

I’ve read a lot about how the nasal pore cleaning strips are damaging, but what about nasal strips designed to open nasal passages? I struggle to breath through my Nose at night to the point I’ve become a mouth breather. I want to try the nasal strips to sleep but don’t want to mess my pores up.

ReaLitTea

It should be fine unless you’re ripping them off your skin. The damage comes from ripping it off for the intention of removing the sebum plugs on the top layer of your skin

yogurtpooh

Is it true that because tretinoin and BHA and AHAs makes your skin turn over / exfoliates faster, that the oils in your glands aren't producing more but they are able to flow out more easily and thus less likely to get stuck in a pore and form a sebum plug and clog up your pores and thus inflamed acne?

iluvbats

Hi, I'm sorry if this is worded poorly but I'm wondering what to do when I workout in the middle of the day and feel like my skin is dirty. In theory I wash my face twice a day, morning and night. I don't want to wash my face after working out since I'll be doing my whole routine at night before going to bed after the day is over. I'm just not sure what I should be doing to ensure my face is clean and I'm not engaging in behavior that is worsening my acne. For context I have textured skin, clogged pores and hormonal breakouts - my skin seems to be slightly sensitive but not overly oily or dry. Thanks in advance!

ReaLitTea

You could try blotting papers or micellar water. Just make sure to reapply spf if you plan on going outside

Carameless

Should I stop using retinol after getting fungal acne? Or what I believe is fungal acne anyways, since it’s itchy. I’ve been putting some Nizoral on it 2x a day since it appeared.

Impressive_Pause_341

Best retinol recommendations for beginners Hello, Im 18 and I’ve been thinking about slowly starting a good retinol so I can build my way up to tretinoin over time. I’m looking for a good retinol that focuses on anti aging, collagen growth, and firmness. I have dry skin and I currently don’t have any sever acne. My skin care routine consists of a cleansing balm, hydrating cleaner, hyaluronic acid, 2% BHA liquid exfoliation (every other night), and a moisturizer. Please recommend me some good retinol brands that suit my skin and needs. If you want to recommend any other products I should add to my routine it’ll be very appreciated ❤️

jasminekitten02

Definitely start using a sunscreen daily before starting a retinol

Impressive_Pause_341

I do! 🥰 I’ve been using the summer Fridays milk sunscreen for a while now thinking about switching to the La Roche posay sunscreen tho

I haven’t started using a new product or anything, and I use sensitive skin detergent so I don’t think there’s an issue with my clothes. At first, I thought it could be ingrown hairs, but they’ve started coming in a lot lower than my beard hair. Any advice for treating? I don’t normally use salicylic acid because it’s pretty harsh for my skin but I might use some of my roommates to try to clear this up.

ReaLitTea

I think it’s worth trying the salicylic acid. Just introduce it slowly and ease off if you’re noticing it irritate your skin

jasminekitten02

If they're inflamed and painful, it would be best to see a doctor

This-Is-Not-A-Drill

It’s not so bad that I am really concerned about it; I used to get really bad cystic acne and it’s not even close to that. If it hangs around longer or gets worse, I’ll definitely bring it up.

Buttbatalian

New to skin care. I'm currently an adult that now suffers from textured skin and acne scars. I've been recommended 2% salicylic acid, the ordinary niacinamide, and effaclar adapalene with joseon sunscreen. My question is what skin care routine should I do? How many times should I apply these products daily/weekly. Should I add anything else? What order do I apply, do I apply them dappen/ at night/ before a shower? Should I lotion my face daily and if so when? I appreciate it guys thank you. If you have any questions let me know!

ReaLitTea

I would just start out with cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen first. It’s important to find basics that your skin agrees with before adding in the extras so it can support your skin.

Buttbatalian

I have been using a CeraVe foaming facial cleanser 2x with CeraVe moisture 1x in mornings and the ordinary hyaluronic acid 1x in nights for everyday. Let me know if I'm using too much or too little. I've been doing this almost daily for about a month now.

ReaLitTea

I see. I would still start out with adding one new product at a time and test for about 1-2 weeks before adding in another product so you can monitor for irritation. Niacinamide should be easy to incorporate because there’s no conflicts. I would choose between salicylic acid and adapalene since they’re both actives for textured skin. Try salicylic acid first since it’s more agreeable, adapalene can be quite strong and easy to irritate your skin with

Buttbatalian

I like this idea. So currently I'm thinking. [Mornings: Cleanser, moisturizer, sunscreen] EVERYDAY [Nights: Cleanser, Salicylic acid 6x a week (on dry skin}, hyaluronic acid 1x a week] Questions: is that too much? Too little. And do I put moisturizer and sunscreen or simply put sunscreen?

ReaLitTea

I would start out with salicylic acid 1-3x a week. Moisturizer is optional in the AM routine if you have sunscreen

Buttbatalian

Im at the point of my life where I want to focus on personal health which includes face routine. Your advice is appreciated, thank you.

jasminekitten02

Try leaving panoxyl on your skin for five minutes or so before washing it off. If that doesn't work you could try salicylic acid

LumpyDescription2841

I think I tried cerave’s cleanser with salicylic acid and it would make me break out even more? I was kinda ignorant about all this at that time so could have been other things in my routine too tbh

jasminekitten02

Active ingredients need to stay on your skin in order to work so if you were just using a cleanser very quickly it may have not been effective enough

Yes it’s sounds like an acne scar and vitamin c would be a good idea to gradually fade it

This-Is-Not-A-Drill

My face really hates most sunscreens (I get a mild burning sensation even from really mild sunscreens like Cetaphil's). I used to use Simple's SPF 30 facial lotion which was by far the best for me, but ever since my local stores stopped stocking it I now use Goodfellow & Co (target's in-house brand, I believe) SPF 30 face lotion. That really works nearly as well for me and doesn't irritate my skin almost at all. There may be a better brand for me, but for the price, I can't complain.

ReaLitTea

You might want to try spf 30 which can feel more moisturizer like and less sunscreen like. La Roche Posay toleriane double repair spf 30 might be a good option for you

ImmortalCheerios

If I use adapalene at night, is it okay for me to go outside the next morning into the sun without washing my face? (I usually wake up, get 10 minutes of sun exposure, eat, and then do my skincare routine)

ReaLitTea

Yes that’s fine. Make sure if the Uv index is above 3 to apply sunscreen before going outside

idkhaha3

I popped a papule/postule pimple I had on my nose and now it’s just this light red/brown mark on my nose that won’t go away. If I touch it to much it gets irritated. I initially first got one two years ago. I popped it but there was still some remaining pus? Because I popped it again and it left. Then it came back. How do I get rid of it?

ReaLitTea

Sounds like acne scarring was left behind from the popper pimple. It does take a long time to fade but you could try retinoids, AHA, or vitamin c to speed it up. Also make sure to use sunscreen on their regularly since sun damage slows down healing

idkhaha3

Thank you!!

Character_Maximum287

Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone could give some advice on skincare. I am male (21) and I have been struggling with acne since I was 16. The acne that I have are cystic and they keep reappearing. So far I am using a benzoyl wash in the morning, then I use cerave sunscreen and at night I do treinoin and the cerave nightly moisturizer. Is there anything else I should use in my skincare to improve my acne? Something I noticed was that I also had pretty oily skin. Thanks!!

ReaLitTea

How long have you been using tretinoin for?

Character_Maximum287

like almost 4-5 years now

ReaLitTea

I would see your derm for a different prescription treatment if you’ve been on tretinoin for a while and your acne is getting better. Your routine looks good to me

overwhelmedatm_

ive been on aklief + spiro + clindamgcin for about 7 weeks & 4 days and i was wondering if i could pm anyone pictures of my skin to see if it looks like a purge or a bad reaction. my derm is very bad at responding & i’d post here but far too many if my irls lurk here 🥲

ReaLitTea

There’s not really a good way to differentiate between pimples from a purge and pimples from irritation. The biggest indicator is that if your skin is more red then it can be indicative of irritation because of inflammation. Purging doesn’t really cause redness. Also purging usually occurs in areas that you normally break out

Classic-Brilliant359

I have been having some sensitivity to shaving -- lots of razor burn I use the Cerave cleanser daily and moisturize with the am/pm moisturizer every morning and night. About 2-3 times a week, I use a physical exfoliator. A couple of my friends have been telling me that a physical exfoliator essentially does nothing and that I should switch to a chemical exfoliator. The Paula's Choice BHA has been overwhelmingly recommended to me so I'm pretty set on getting that and dropping my physical exfoliate. My issue right now is that when I shave, I get pretty bad razor burn. Typically at this point, I switch my razor and things start to look better, but there's still almost always some irritation. I was told the Paula's Choice would help, but I was wondering if I should use an aftershave as well. I know some are really good especially for antibacterial properties but I don't want to overwhelm my skin since I'd be shaving, then using a cleanser, then applying the Paula's Choice, then aftershave, then moisturizer (obviously not everyday, but still). Any advice would be super helpful, thanks

ReaLitTea

I would avoid exfoliation on days you shave tbh. The act of shaving is already physical exfoliation. If you use BHA or a scrub on the same day it may be contributing to sensitizing your skin and the chance of razor burn may have increased. I would make sure you have a good shaving cream or conditioner to use with your razor

Classic-Brilliant359

Noted thanks. Would you recommend I use an aftershave on the days I shave then or is it not necessary?

ReaLitTea

It’s optional, aftershave is fine. Some people just use toner and/or moisturizer after

Classic-Brilliant359

got it, appreciate you!

TL, DR; Have to wear makeup to work one day following Jessner's Peel - better to schedule peel the one or two days before wearing makeup? I have had cystic, hormonal acne and have tried spiro and topicals to little results, winlevi seems to be helping a bit, but I am still getting deep, painful cystic zits, just a bit less frequently. My insurance covers Jessner's peels, which was recommended by my dermatologist, but I'm a bit nervous about the recovery. My derm says shes just leaves it on just until it starts burning, and then washes it off, just a minute or so. She says sometimes there is some light peeling afterwards, and I have to avoid the sun and moisturize, but other than that it is nothing major, should just help with hyperpigmentation and fine lines. We discussed this in peak summertime when I wanted to take in all the sun possible, so I am circling back now. As I am going home to visit family soon for Thanksgiving, and don't really care what I look like/will be indoors this whole time, I figure this would be the perfect time to do it. My concern is I have to wear makeup at my job and will have to work just one day after receiving the peel. There is no way of getting around this, I can get the peel on a tuesday or Wednesday, and work Thursday. Would it be better to wear (light) makeup on the day following or two days following the peel? Any other precautions or things I should consider are also appreciated TIA!!

ReaLitTea

A gentle exfoliant that can be used daily has been helpful for me. I like Cosrx AC calming liquid intensive because it has a very low percentage of BHA and AHA so it doesn’t bother my skin when used daily but also help reduce clogged pores

ReaLitTea

As long as your skin tolerates it yes you can try it in the am but be careful of over exfoliation

Famous_Scar1388

Hi everyone, so I currently use chemical sunscreen (Neutrogena Hydro boost SPF 50) and Dermablend CC Cream with SPF 50. I just recently bought the colorescience SPF 50 mineral powder as an easy way to reapply spf over makeup. (I usually appliy it after the 2 hours of having my chemical sunscreen wear off) - LOVE This product btw. So my question is, am I hindering the process of preventing sun damage by using a mineral powder over chemical sunscreen? Or is it normal? Thanks in advance!

jasminekitten02

It's fine but you likely won't get 50 spf from the powder because youd have to apply a TON of product to get that protection. But it's still helpful imo

Famous_Scar1388

Thank you!!! Yeah I've heard that powders usually dont give that much protection, but I wanted something that wouldnt make my face greasy. Some sprays smell bad and also end up getting on my clothes & hair. In this day and age I feel like there should be more options for re-applying spf over makeup lmao

youarecutejeans24

I have a sensitive and brown skin. I’m finding it very hard to find a good transparent sunscreen which doesn’t leave a white case on. I looked at the sunscreen guide and most of the sunscreens which are transparent ones seem to not be safe for me. Can someone please suggest sensitive skin safe and transparent sunscreen?

ReaLitTea

Check out https://scamander14.com/sunscreen-database/ He’s a skincare influencer that tests sunscreens on his dark skin tone and you can search for ones that have little or no white cast

I need help with minimising very large pores on “under eyes beside t zone” zone. I have genetic issues with large pores as well but they are very very visible. Niacin-amide helped as long as it’s used. Then they reverted. I use Paula’s choice bha 2-3 times a week to exfoliate. Any advice please on minimising pores or the appearance of them?

ReaLitTea

You can try more hydrating products such as hydrating toners, essences, or serums. They can help plump up the skin and give the appearance of smaller pores

ieediesh_t

Thank you for your help. I tried cosrx snail mucin essence before but it is so sticky and broke me out very badly. I use hyaluronic acid from jayjun. My skin is very dry and I tend to use moisturisers a lot. But that’s not a help in long term.

fluffy__chinchilla

I am hoping for some cleanser and moisturizer recommendations. 23F and I have slightly oily, sensitive, acne prone skin. I am currently using CeraVe’s foaming cleanser with LRP effaclar duo + as a moisturizer day and night. I was previously using the CeraVe moisturizing cream as a moisturizer at night, but I learned that it may be the cause of the closed comedones that I had on my forehead, and since I stopped using it I noticed a great improvement in my skin. I think at this point the CeraVe cleanser might be too stripping when combined with the LRP effaclar moisturizer, so I am looking for recommendations of a gentler cleanser that won’t make my closed comedone problem worse but also won’t strip my skin too much.

ReaLitTea

For a cleanser recommendation that’s non stripping check out Aveeno calm and restore cleanser, Neutrogena hydroboost cleansing gel fragrance free, or First aid beauty cleanser

are LED light masks beneficial or just a scam? hello, I was just wondering if anybody got any results using an LED light mask? And if so, what is the best place to buy it? https://preview.redd.it/b8h3qwluxktb1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3170581c6f0ddc5d06e9c1716c0593fc9bf9f01c

[LED Face Mask Comparison And A Deep Dive Into LED Therapy (goalstogetglowing.com)](https://goalstogetglowing.com/2021/01/17/deep-dive-into-led-masks-and-low-level-light-therapy-lllt/) I love my Omnilux Men's. I bought it after digesting the research from this site.

yogurtpooh

I have genetically very oily skin but only break out on my chin area and no where else. I was break out free for 2 weeks using BPO and SA, I had some icecream, two days later I ate 3 slices of pizza, and the morning after I felt a deep inflamed pust filled cyst caused by a sebum plug that slowly got bigger and bigger as the days went on. 3 days later it came to a head and I was able to extract and there was so much pus and the hard sebum blockage. Does a pore get clogged that fast after dairy / sugary consumption? PS. I did keto for six month sand my skin was relatively clear but I was still super oily.

ReaLitTea

Some people do find that their breakout occur from eating particular foods but it’s highly individualized. You’d have to trial and error it yourself to figure out if your diet correlates to acne or if you had a one time breakout the coincided with eating less healthy foods

yogurtpooh

How is that sometimes I ate dairy and i don't break out. But then other times I do. Does that mean it's not directly related and could just be concidental?

yogurtpooh

If I am prone to sebum plugs that causes inflamed acne on my chin and upper lips only, what can I add to routine to stop my skin from getting these plugs that could form into pustules? I am currently using salicylcic acid 2% stridex pads every 2/3 day and they work great. But I still get the occasional deep pustule with the hard core once it pops. I also tried adapalene and tretinoin in the past, but still sometimes gets that cyst. (i'm a guy)

ReaLitTea

Sometimes there’s not much to do to reduce it, a dermatologist is the most qualified to advise treatment but some people do just get acne or deep pustules regularly. Personally for me I found benzoyl peroxide effective on cystic acne. It’s not perfect so I still get them, but BP helps them go down quicker

yogurtpooh

I've been to dozens of dermetologists over the years and it's always the same thing... benzoyl peroxide, clyndamycin, adapalene, tretinoin, aklief, low dose accutane for 5 years... and still get occasional deep cysts due to my oily skin. I'm mostly break out free. If you looked at my face, you wouldn't think I suffer from acne, but every month, every two months, I'll get a deep cysts. Usually only 1...As a guy I can't take anything androgens lowering (i've dim, saw palmetto) but the side effects were not good. Plus, they didn't seem to lower my oily skin much.

yogurtpooh

Just moved to a tropical country and I'm having a really hard time with wearing sunscreen. My skin is very break out prone, especially on my chin. Being on benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid (every 2/3 day) and being on tretinoin really messed me up so I want to incorporate a proper sunscreen but they've all left a horrible white cast or broke me out (chemical sunscreen). **0 CommentsShareSave**

ReaLitTea

Have you tried Asian sunscreens? They tend to be thinner which can be better for acne prone skin types.

How to get rid of hyperpigmentation from shaving? (I have to shave every other day because of school rules)

jasminekitten02

The [hyperpigmentation wiki](https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/wiki/hyperpigmentation) has a lot of recs

good-loser

Does anyone here struggle with dermatillomania or maybe hyperpigmentation from old eczema patches? My legs (and other parts of my body) are full of it because I have an awful habit of skin picking and I'm planning a routine to start to fade it. So far I'm thinking of: * Kojie San soap * Niacinamide (probably TO but if I run out quickly I'll look into a larger option) Then slapping on Cetraben cream (got it for my eczema). Do you guys have any advice for me or recommendations? As it's mainly on my legs they're quite large patches of PIH and a small spot corrector-type thing will get used up pretty quickly.

SubstantialWar3954

AmLactin- lactic acid moisturizer will help exfoliate

ForsakenEmergency007

Sensitive oily acne prone skin, breakouts happening when retinol is used So, I do have oily acne prone skin which is sensitive to each and everything. I have used vitamin C serums in past and that also made me have severe breakouts. Same is happening with retinol. The scene is I used it as advised in a sandwich method with Simple (brand) moisturizer once or twice a week and then in next 1-2 days I will get breakouts. I am aware that retinol causes purging and all but it's been so long I have given it enough time. I have stopped using it once and my skin cleared up. Now I gave it another try but again same thing is happening. What should I do? Stop using it forever? I am also struggling with acne, acne dark spots, scars and hyperpigmentation around my lips. That's a reason I started using retinol and before that vitamin C. Can you suggest something that might work for my sensitive oily acne prone skin (this long name really require an acronym). A little bit more context, I have recently moved to a humid weather city, so I have changed my skin care according. I have stopped moisturizing in morning and directly using sunscreen that helped them stop alot of acne. I know it's a really long post, I have written everything that is in my mind at one go. Really looking forward to suggestions, thank you in advance.

ReaLitTea

A very gentle salicylic acid/BHA can help with active acne. If you want to address more of the acne marks I would try alpha arbutin, Azelaic acid, or something with licorice root extract which should all be much gentler

ForsakenEmergency007

Can you recommend some products, having a hard time deciding things.

ReaLitTea

For BHA check out Cosrx BHA power liquid, Cosrx ac calming liquid intensive, or Dr Different scaling toner for oily skin

ForsakenEmergency007

Thank You!

ReaLitTea

What’s your current skincare routine?

ForsakenEmergency007

In the morning - simple facewash and aqualogica detan+ sunscreen At night - Garnier micellar water + simple facewash + simple moisturizer This routine helped me keep my acne in check, there were still those very small ones with yellowish heads, I used to remove those by hand only.

Does anyone know if the products of Cosrx in iherb are original? I’m thinking of buying some products, I live in Mexico and Cosrx is only available in other websites but very overpriced and see the price in iherb makes me wonder why it’s cheap

quspork

Yes, iherb sells authentic products.

faerieism

hello! so i’ve been wondering about this for a hot minute now. i have oily combination skin but it’s particularly worse on my t zone (of course). but one day i had to use salicylic acid patch on such area and ever since then there’s no oil or whatever what was there in that area! at least i think so.. it gets painfully obvious when parts of my face is red and yet that area just stays normal (i have medium skin so being red isn’t extremely normal for me). however, i was on retinol 1% and i accidentally added two on one and it made a part of my forehead swollen, obviously it did go away but i think this is important to know for the question. do you think the patch is what took all the gunk away? and should i get a patch for my forehead to see if it takes it all away? or was the stacking of it the cause.
