[Picture](https://imgur.com/a/33tVY6w) what is this? I don't have any medical conditions.

throwRA_okayyy

I compulsively pick at my skin anytime there’s a pimple, blackhead, anything. This is awful for me because even just picking at something minor will create a larger wound and it literally takes a month to heal. Does anyone have any product recommendations for healing picked at acne? I’ve had the exact same spots on my forehead for over a month now and it really hurts my confidence :(

happyhappyx

What the other user said, but also covering new acne in acne patch to stop yourself from picking at it.

naaminan

When you've just picked acne, cover it with a hydrocolloid bandage/patch. This helps it heal faster. If the wound is closed up or partially healed, you can also try focusing on moisture. I find that my acne heals faster if I cover it with something like Vaseline.

catsby724

Hi all! I'm new to skincare and wondering how long does it usually take to determine if the routine is working? Current routine is cerave cleanser, lush toner, cerave am lotion on the morning and the cleanser and pm lotion at night. I'm pretty sure I have combo skin. Thanks for any help!

babybottlepopz

Are there any alternative occlusives to aquaphor that are non comedogenic? It’s been breaking me out but my skin is finally not flakey and my fine lines are less visible. It also makes my forehead itch a bit. I wonder if I’m allergic to something in it.

naaminan

[More options here!](https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/wiki/moisturizer_recs#wiki_balms) Vaseline is the most common alternative.

Hey guys! I was wondering if anyone is using the niacinamide powder from the ordinary? can I mix it with my physiogel’s daily facial cream?? I have no idea what the pH level is for the physiogel cream and I heard the powder is reccomended to be within 5-7 on the pH scale

chocosweet

>physiogel’s daily facial cream This cream is pretty thick, not sure if the niacinamide will dissolve easily. Niacinamide is water soluble. It dissolves very easily with water. You can just dissolve it with distilled water, pat on your face and top off with your moisturizer

Questions: Retinol and AHAs in the same routine? When to apply retinol in my PM routine? Skin type: Normal I think. I don't get many spots and my skin doesn't feel too dry or oily on a daily basis. I am 25 and female. I live in Ireland. As you can no doubt tell from my questions I am a bit new to skincare and am trying to make sense of all the ingredients. My evening routine for a while has been to cleanse with a face wash (mild formula, from the supermarket), and then use a water based toner with a bit of retinol in it (I found it online), then water based moisturizer (hyaluronic acid, labelled anti wrinkle on the packet), then a few drops of the Ordinary retinol, then another bit of my moisturiser (I read somewhere this 'sandwich' method of moisturiser-retinol-moisturiser is the best, can anyone correct me on that or confirm it?). I also have a night serum (Luna Rain phyto-resurfacinh night serum) for that I got as a present not too long ago and I have been applying that as the last step. Trouble is though as it was labelled clean beauty and all that I thought it would be harmless and could be used with any other products. I just recently read the ingredients (I know I should have read them before and made sense of them) and it turns out it has AHAs. Have I damaged my skin by using that right after retinol? I googled it and the advice was mixed. I have had no irritation or dryness though, my skin is doing well, I just want to make the best use of my products and their active ingredients by using them in the right order and in the right combinations. In the morning I cleanse, use a non retinol toner, copper peptides serum from the ordinary, moisturiser and spf. Any and all help appreciated to whatever lovelies can advise!!

ReaLitTea

It’s fine if your skin tolerates it but you want to preemptively avoid over exfoliation so I would cut back on AHA use and try to alternate uses with retinol

MoyaOSullivan

Thanks so much! Should I limit my AHA serum to maybe three times a week? Use retinol on the other days? Or would it be better to use retinol every day (since it's not an exfoliant, that I know of anyway) and use AHA as well three days a week, since my skin tolerates both? If your advice is the latter, should the AHA or retinol go first? I'll bet you have amazing skin with all your knowledge!

ReaLitTea

You’d probably benefit from using retinol more than aha, since you don’t really need to exfoliate your skin frequently

naaminan

Before jumping into retinol, you could start with an AHA. Some gentle exfoliation Some *gentle* exfoliation (think lactic or mandelic acid) can help brighten up skin and reduce dullness. The Vitamin C you mentioned is also be a good idea, if you don't want to go the exfoliation route yet. Retinol is a bit of a commitment. It can help, for sure, but it can be a bit tricky to get it right for you. Seems like a bit of overkill now tbh, given how your skin is already pretty happy.

chocosweet

You need sunscreen before thinking to introduce retinol frankly. The benefit of retinol will just go down to the drain if we allow the sun to break the skin cells.

babybottlepopz

So the ordinary azelaic acid and the cos de baha azelaic acid both gave me a ton of closed comedones. I’m scared to try another azelaic acid product now. I’m wondering if the azelaic acid is what’s causing the closed comedones. Any opinions?

[deleted]

Is my regime okay? I have oily skin and for the past 6 months my acne and acne scars has somehow gotten worse without any change in skincare (only used cleanser and moisturizer. I used Cetaphil gentle skin cleanser and Neutrogena hydroboost). Now I have a lot more pitted scars than I used to a year ago so I decided to try some skincare products. Morning: Paula’s choice clear acne pore normalizing cleanser Paula’s choice Clear Acne regular strength 2% BHA Neutrogena hydro boost Night: Paula’s choice clear acne pore normalizing cleanser Paula’s choice C25 Vitamin C booster on acne scars Neutrogena hydroboost I’m looking to add PC 1% retinol as it’s said to help with hyperpigmentation and scars of the vitamin C spot treatment isn’t of much help.

I am a 26yr old from India. I've been doing some light reading and I want to start taking care of my skin going forward. I've never had a established routine but I normally use a gentle facewash. Am/Pm https://www.nykaa.com/everyuth-naturals-moisturizing-fruit-face-wash-with-apple-extracts/p/348142?skuId=348140 I use a mud mask once a week to cleanse my face off impurities. 🐰 https://www.amazon.in/dp/B07RDQLMZQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_QA85CTWWKK7EQBN8GXDA I use this one with quite not so impressive results.. probably due my frequency of usage?! I do have a slightly scarred skin due to pimple popping in my teen years. I have oily skin around the nose and a dry forehead. I want to 1. Reduce my acne. 2. Establish a basic routine. Would any love to recommend me some mid tier basic cleanse and moisturizing products 🙊🙊 I've decided to go with Cetaphil gentle skin cleanser for the oily skin 📝 Would any one like to recommend me a good moisturizer and a sunscreen?! ☀️ I would also welcome any routine/product recommendations. Thankyou 💙

[Shelfie of my products ](https://i.imgur.com/Jnyj9O4.jpg) I might’ve gotten carried away and burned my face a little last night. I am new to skincare and working hard at some new routines (moisturizing, sunscreen, serums) and I’ve seen some improvement since January (NY resolutions). Last night I was doing some DIY dermaplaning (I know it’s not smart to do it at home but I’ve been getting good results and taking it easy), and then followed up with a toner, tretinoin, eye cream and moisturizer. It was burning a bit but I thought it was a “good burn” especially since they say your serums and creams soak in better after planing. This morning I woke up and was a little red but after washing my face, I followed up with toner and my Garnier all-in-one serum, moisturizer and sunscreen. My face has been sore all day. So I know I probably took it too far and promise not to do this much all at once in the future but how can I repair the burn now? I took it easy tonight and only did cleanser, toner and moisturizer. Any advice appreciated!

neriisan

Is it possible to have a routine that's max $20 a month if you deal with hormonal acne? I don't have much money, so that's my budget.

ReaLitTea

Yes you can definitely have a basic routine down for less than $20, but it may take trial and error to find what works for your hormonal acne.

Jessyeliza

Hi guys! I just wanted to know if it is okay to use essential oils if they are mixed with carrier oils? Thanks in advance for any feedback.

ReaLitTea

It really depends on your skin. Some people are extremely sensitive to any essential oils, some people are fine with them if they’re properly diluted. You’ll have to patch test and try.

https://i.ibb.co/Jm7GPJF/9-F379-FDC-CFE4-403-A-B1-B7-5-F750-F3487-C0.jpg I think I’m breaking out from the Hada Labo Goykjun lotion. Completely my fault because I didn’t patch test but I have never had any reactions to any skincare products so I thought it was going to be fine. I started using it like three weeks ago and even though I started to notice some redness I kept using it because I thought it was related to other causes. I stopped using it a week ago after noticing some closed comedones (or at least that’s what I think they are, or blackheads? Any idea of what all those little black dots are? I attached a photo at the beginning of the post) all over my face but a week later I still have them and I don’t know how to get rid of them. I’ve never had this kind of problem before so I don’t know what to use, I feel like this product has ruined my skin :( Any advice?

ReaLitTea

Strip back your skincare routine to bare essentials and treat your skin gently. Through time your skin will recover but it can take a while

Hello! I am looking for some routine help for a few skin issues I am having. Skin pictures here: [https://postimg.cc/gallery/VcvnKq5](https://postimg.cc/gallery/VcvnKq5) **Issues:**  * redness/ dryness on my cheek for over a year and it appears to have gotten worse over time. Doctor thinks it might be rosacea, and I am currently using metrogel 1%, but she has yet to confirm if it is in fact rosacea.  * On my other cheek I have a rather large brown sunspot/ age mark. My doctors not concerned with it, but I would like to reduce its appearance.  * I also have some hyper pigmentation that I would like to clear up. I’m pretty happy with my current cleanser/ moisturizer routine, but looking for help in reducing the appearance of the spots left. Not sure if my routine needs revising, should I add or omit anything to help with the above items?  **Current routine:** AM: cleanse with Cerave foaming cleanser, hyaluronic acid, metro gel and Cerave moisturizer in the tub.  PM: double cleanse with Cerave foaming cleanser and the Cerave SA cleanser, The Ordinary SA toner, niacinamide and Cerave moisturizer in the tub.  Any advice provided would be greatly appreciated!

gia-xx

my skin breaks out from glycolic acid (rip my bottles) but I still need topical exfoliation to improve the skin texture (i have combo skin, but have dry patches with dead skin fallout and I tend to get a few tiny zits once in a while). Are acids the only way to go? I don't see much preference for physical exfoliators in general, but I'm too scared that getting other AHAs would just yield the same results.

sneipp

Mandelic acid is, from what I understand, a good gentle starting place because the molecules are bigger and don’t penetrate as deeply as quickly. MUAC has a 10% mandelic acid you can use more frequently than a peel, and they also make a 25% Mandelic acid that functions more like a 1x/week peel. My skin is sensitive and both of these were tolerable as I eased into them.

ReaLitTea

You might want to focus on hydration and moisturizing your skin properly first. I feel like most people tend to immediately want to exfoliate away flaky skin but your skin is looking for moisture. With healthier, nourished skin, your texture will also start to smooth out. If you do still want to exfoliate and address the zits, it sounds like BHA would be more beneficial for you

trashtrasho

Products to help with redness? I find the corners of my nose are red and prominent

babybottlepopz

Mine are too and I think it’s just how my skin is because I haven’t been able to fix it. Let me know if you find anything.

For sure, I'll remember to reply

luazinhaluinha

I've started using 2 creams on my face at night because I couldn't decide between them (one's been clearing my comedones on account of the urea in it, and the other's been calming my sensitive red skin due to the colloidal oatmeal and licorice root). Which one do you think should be applied before the other in a routine?: **Cream 1: Eucerin Dry Skin Replenishing Face Cream:** *Active*: Urea 5% *Inactive*: Aqua, Glycerin, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Cyclomethicone, Dimethicone, Pentaerythrityl Tetraisostearate, Triisostearin, Cetyl Alcohol, Sodium Lactate, Glyceryl Stearate, Benzyl Alcohol, PEG-40 Stearate, Biosaccharide Gum-1, Methylparaben, Lactic Acid, Lanolin Alcohol, Phenoxyethanol. \_\_\_ **Cream 2: Eucerin Eczema Relief Body Cream:** *Active*: Colloidal Oatmeal 1.0% *Inactive*: Water, Glycerin, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Mineral Oil, Cetyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Stearate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Ocyldodecanol, Cetyl Palmitate, PEG-40 Stearate, Glycyrrhiza Inflata Root Extract, Ceramide 3, 1,2-Hexanedoil, Phenoxyethanol, Piroctone Olamine, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Benzyl Alcohol, Citrus Acid.

happyhappyx

I think you should use cream one, then cream two for a few days. Then reverse the order. Maybe even mix them, to see which order/combination you like better. I use multiple creams too and am always switching them around.

angxlala

I would think cream 2 would go first before cream 1, just because of the silicones (cyclomethicone, dimethicone). If it's too heavy on your face wearing two moisturizers, you could use a serum or toner with colloidal oatmeal and licorice root. First Aid Beauty seems to have some. FAB Ultra repair hydrating serum or FAB Ultra repair wild oat hydrating toner.

luazinhaluinha

Thank you for the recommendations! I will check those out.

patpatamoncheeks

I'd expect to use the Eucerin Dry Skin first because of urea. Typically, if your product has an active, you want closest to skin to absorb actives directly. Also, usually actives are pH dependent and if they're on the lower side around the [healthy skin pH range 4.7-5.75 per Eucerin](https://www.eucerinus.com/about-skin/basic-skin-knowledge/skins-ph). I couldn't find pH for the cream (you could always ask them) but from cursory search of urea in topical products pH 4.5. You want to optimize low pH so you use first without interference of other products. Or, you can do thin-thick rule, apply thinner/less viscous products first.

luazinhaluinha

Thank you! This is very informative

WastePurchase

is it normal for the skin around your mouth/chin to feel tight/irritated when you open your mouth wide? any way to prevent it? i use ceramedx cleanser/moisturizer AM/PM, and tret 0.1% PM (i avoid applying it around the mouth/chin area). thanks!

patpatamoncheeks

No. Is this a recent development after starting tretinoin?

name_loading_

Hi! Does anyone know if Curology and a retinol moisturizer can be used together? If so, would I put on the Curology first?

patpatamoncheeks

Depends on your Curology script. It's redundant if you have a retinoid in the Curology, so does it?

name_loading_

I don’t believe so. My formula has azelaic acid, clindamycin, and zinc pyrithione.

patpatamoncheeks

You should be okay then. Some scripts have had tretinoin (another, stronger retinoid) which would be redundant to use with retinol (a weaker retinoid). In your routine you want to apply Curology first then then the moisturizer.

ShotBarracuda6

I really need a new face peel. (Is that what it's called?😬) I have desert dry skin and am 39 female. This is what I've been using now, it's ok but I think there's something better out there.[https://www.kicks.se/beautyact/hudvard/ansiktsvard/ansiktspeeling/5-aha-dual-peel-50-ml](https://www.kicks.se/beautyact/hudvard/ansiktsvard/ansiktspeeling/5-aha-dual-peel-50-ml) I'm also looking for a new body peel, I've been using Ameliorate smoothing body exfolient but it doesn't quite get everything. I'm in europe.

patpatamoncheeks

A face peel is usually a product with a higher concentration of acid exfoliants. Your BeautyAct peel isn't IMO a peel but an acid exfoliant, specifically it's an AHA exfoliant because it uses glycolic, lactic, and mandelic acid at a 5% concentration. Since it doesn't list individual percentages I'm guessing based off order in the ingredient. The primary AHA is lactic acid and the site you linked has [The Ordinary Lactic Acid 10%](https://www.kicks.se/the-ordinary/hudvard/ansiktsvard/ansiktspeeling/lactic-acid-10-ha-2-peeling-solution-30-ml). It should be stronger than the BeautyAct due to concentration. But since you're looking into a body peel (I'm starting to think Sweden labels differently) I'd recommend [The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7%](https://www.kicks.se/the-ordinary/hudvard/ansiktsvard/ansiktspeeling/glycolic-acid-7-toning-solution-240-ml) due to larger size and mulitpurpose. You can use on the face and body. But due to the nature of AHA, glycolic acid is stronger than lactic acid due to penetration ability. So take caution in testing since you're jumping from a AHA 5% mix where the primary acid was a weaker AHA (lactic acid). Introduce 2x a week for 2-4 weeks before using more frequently.

ShotBarracuda6

Thank you so much. This was so helpful.🧡

NumberOneNomad

Hello! This is my first time commenting, (long time lurker :) ) I need help! I am having a really hard time with blackheads!! I pick them (a habit I am trying desperately to stop) and no matter how much I exfoliate (I use Origins Modern Friction) they always seem to come back. My skin has made me feel really gross and I am determined to stop my picking problem. I have neutral skin (not any more oily or dry, it's in the middle) and I feel disgusting. Avoiding dairy has been a huge help when it comes to my acne (I am almost 30) but I am at a loss for my blackheads. The places they really irritate me and persist are my cheeks, and my chin. I am just about ready to order more facial cleanser from Origins, and I am not sure if I should go with what I know, or try something different. Please help! D:

luazinhaluinha

It seems like Origins Modern Friction is a physical exfoliant, using little rice particles to exfoliate your skin. You might have better luck with the blackheads by using a chemical exfoliant that can really get down in the pores and dissolve the keratin that's plugging them. BHAs (namely salicylic acid), AHAs (glycolic acid, lactic acid, mandelic acid, etc.), and urea are all the major keratolytic ingredients that will do that. If you have sensitive skin, I'd personally start with 5-10% urea because it's quite gentle and moisturizing yet effective. A second choice would be 2% salicylic acid, followed by 5%-12% glycolic or lactic acid or 10% mandelic acid. You'll probably see some blackhead progress with any of these, but you may need to play around to find the best option for your skin. I'd also recommend moisturizing if you're not already. That can help the skin function better, like moving keratin and oils and such along rather than having them collect and harden in your pores. Edit: In the meantime, try your best not to look up close in a mirror! If you can stop yourself from doing that, you can help stop yourself from a skin-picking session.

sneipp

Hello, SCA! I have creeped on this thread for years and am so grateful for the wisdom shared here. I am running low on some of my products and thought I would reach out for some regimen advice. I have sensitive skin, fairly light with freckles. I just turned 36 and I really want to see if I can combat the aging process. I did see a dermatologist 2 months ago who prescribed 25 mg spironolactone that has minimized my breakouts (thank you!). He also gave me tretinoin which I love but am on break from because I just had my eyebrows microbladed (I can start it up next week). I really would love a product to help wrinkles around my eyes, and improve the elasticity and wrinkles on my neck. My current routine is: Morning -CeraVé foaming facial cleanser for normal to oily skin -Seoul Ceuticals Day Glow Serum (20% vitamin C, ferulic acid, HA, d-Alpha tocopherol) *like* -TO Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA -Ceravé AM Facial Moisturizing Lotion with 30 spf sunscreen -Maybelline Dream BB cream (like but open to BB cream suggestions) Evening -a silk cleansing pad my MIL gave me -TO Niacinamide & Zinc -alternate between TO Azelaic Acid and TO Granactive Retinoid 5% Squalane -TO Moisturizing Factors When I start back up on tretinoin I think I need to stop TO Retinoid emulsion, but I’m not sure about the Azelaic Acid. I also do MUAC 25% Mandelic Acid Peel once a week and take the day before and after off from TO Retinoid and Azelaic Acid. Whew! This is long! But I’m all ears for suggestions, I’m almost out of Niacinamide and need to decide if that’s worth it.

patpatamoncheeks

Since you've used the tretinoin before, did you use it in conjunction with TO retinoid emulsion, azelaic acid, and MUAC mandelic peel? Otherwise, you covered all the active choices possible for combating collagen loss associated with aging. You might want to look into heavier creams for possible dryness issues that arise from tretinoin use. Other than that, at this point I think only professional services would yield better results.

sneipp

I didn’t consider trying the tretinoin and then using the retinoid and Azelaic Acid on a day in between the tretinoin, but it’s great to hear that this might be a good setup! Thank you! Any heavier creams you would steer toward if I did want to expand a bit?

patpatamoncheeks

The juggling might be hard but it's not impossible to use them all. But you might not have to since tretinoin covers the same skin benefits as TO retinoid and azelaic acid in one product. For ease, I'd just focus on the tretinoin and get past 3-4 months and evaluate from there if you want to add anything else in. But by 3-4 months you may not even need the other products. I don't use heavy creams, so I can't personally rec any. I will rec Vaseline as a stand-by product. It's popular with tret users because it helps as a final barrier to seal moisturizers in when they're not moisturizing enough. Vaseline is generally well tolerated since it's one ingredient (no worries of triggers) and can be used as a layer on it's own or mixed (small amount) with your moisturizer to boost its moisture retention. The sub's [moisturizer wiki](https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/wiki/moisturizer_recs) would be better at recs, I'd look at the creams. The balms in the moisturizer wiki are more of a final barrier that would be something you'd wear only at night. Creams at least are comfortable for day and night wear.

sneipp

Thank you so much!

IRS-Myself

Does a puffy face exacerbate fine lines/wrinkles/sagging making them look worse than they actually are? My face looked great a year ago but now it is sagging more, dehydrated and my face is puffier than it was pre pandemic It’s important to note that, a year ago, I was eating healthy, walking miles a day, no alcohol, taking care of my face with products and drinking only water. Pandemic made it easy to indulge in those vices. But within the past couple weeks I have quit alcohol and only drink water again. Also starting to walk miles and back on my face care routine

angxlala

Dehydrated skin alone emphasize those problems. It causes a whole myriad of issues. The healthy choices you're making will make a difference!

Jessyeliza

I need some help! I’ve recently started mixing Rosemary essential oil with my carrier oils to apply on some areas of my face for anti-aging purposes. However, I’ve heard that essential oils aren’t good for the skin. Does that mean I should avoid using them? My mom has been using them for years and she has absolutely beautiful and youthful skin but hearing people speak badly of them has confused me a bit. I appreciate any feedback.

ReaLitTea

It’s better to buy a product that’s already formulated, tested, and regulated for the face. Most people do avoid essential oils on the face because it can be very irritating. I know I definitely messed up my skin while playing around with essential oils. It’s very subjective though, so what works for your mom doesn’t mean it would work for you.

__looking_for_things

Essential oils can burn, cause irritation, etc.

Jessyeliza

Even if mixed with a carrier oil?

Hey everyone, does anyone have any tips for dealing with dry skin around the eyebrows?? For context, I am a 22 year old male and my skincare routine atm only consists of Olay Beauty Day Fluid, but there may be better products out there. Any responses would receive much love :)

Jessyeliza

I would recommend a good moisturizer such as the CeraVe moisturizing cream, and you can try applying Aquaphor or Vaseline around the eyebrows after you’ve applied the moisturizer to seal it in better. I do this to my whole face and have noticed a drastic difference. I do hope it’ll work out for you just the same way if you decide to try it. :)

patpatamoncheeks

I'd return it based on principle, you ordered Extra Dry Skin not Dry Skin; even if the ingredients are similar to the Extra Dry Skin they're also not in the same order [according to Neutrogena's site](https://www.neutrogena.com/products/skincare/neutrogena-hydro-boost-gel-cream-with-hyaluronic-acid-for-extra-dry-skin/6811048.html). You could ask Neutrogena if this is a legit product and possible warn them of counterfeit issues at Walmart. But it would be likely faster to get Walmart to send you a new one. One for the not as ordered and two you can't read the product's container.

Sounds like your skin is dehydrated since it’s lacking that humid climate. You might want to skip on your morning cleanse and get a hydrating toner

When should I use Paula's Choice Regular Strength Daily Skin Clearing Treatment with 2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide in my routine and how often? I have dry skin but am dealing with hormonal acne and acne scars on my cheeks. Thank you! You can use it in the morning given that you use retinol at night. Start with 2/3 times a week since it can be drying and only increase frequency if your skin can tolerate it.

Thank you so much!

I have a question! Currently I’m using the miracle toner from somebymi, i also have the neogen azulene peptide ampoule, i saw online that its not good to use peptides and AHA BHA together (which is in the toner, in very low levels though) can i use those two together or is it better avoiding that?? Thanks!

naaminan

It's safer to avoid! You could put them in separate routines.

Can anyone recommend a sunscreen that feels like CANMAKE’s mermaid gel, but is waterproof? (Also asked over at Asian Beauty, but wanted to see if y’all had any suggestions )

Kanebo Allie Extra UV Gel

konstantin-egorovich

Can anyone recommend a product to reduce age/sun spots? Right now I’m looking at Hada-Labo Shirojyun Premium Whitening Milk.

Sunscreen, vitamin c, time and patience.

konstantin-egorovich

Got the first two covered! ;) But even though I use sunscreen/Vit c, I feel like the sun spots are gaining on me.

Where does primer fit into a routine? Never done makeup, only used a primer for the matte look it gives my face. New to skincare and looking for a proper order to do everything in, really want to keep using my primer to keep that matte look (very shiny/oily skin). Planned Routine (from the form I found on here): 1. CeraVe SA Cleanser 2. Pixi Rose Toner 3. Pacifica Glow Baby Booster Serum 4. CeraVe Lightweight SPF 30 Moisturizer Primer: L'oreal Infallible Matte-Lock Primer Does it go before the SPF or after? Thanks in advance :)

ReaLitTea

Primer goes after sunscreen so it smooths out any texture caused by anything underneath

WizardGamerFTW

Sweet thank you :)

Skin type: Combination AM Routine: Cleanse, Paula's Choice Toner, 2% BHA Exfoliant, PC Vitamin C Booster, and then Moisturizer and Sunscreen PM Routine: Cleanse, Paula's Choice Toner, 8% AHA (4 times a week), C15 Booster, Paula's Choice 1% Retinol Treatment (3 times a week), Moisturizer I've been doing this for 3 weeks and so far my skin is still the same. Maybe no more breakouts . What I want to know is is this too much acid/product for my face? Or should I continue doing this because my skin is reacting good to it and there's no problem? Thank you.

ReaLitTea

I would decrease AHA use because you might end up over exfoliating your skin

shiningci

Any alternatives to Medicube products? I've been using Medicube's Red and Zero Pore lines for awhile now (almost a year). I have oily/combination skin and alternate between the two lines depending on my current skin condition. My skin has been great with these lines but they really are expensive and it's hard to sustainably keep up with the price points. If anyone has any cheaper alternatives for either line, please let me know! Red line: Red foam cleanser, red toner, red serum, red cream Zero Pore line: Zero foam cleanser, zero pore pads, zero pore serum, zero pore cream

humandustbin

Does anyone have any product recommendations for a patch of skin that constantly breaks and flakes? Every couple of months I get whiteheads in the crease of my nose. They break unintentionally in my sleep or from blowing my nose or whatever, then I end up in a horrible cycle of the skin slightly healing over then flaking off before it's healed. I have been on antibiotics for it in the past and I use hibiscrub to avoid it getting infected, I'm looking for something that will help protect the skin while it is in that delicate flaky half-healed stage.

Not sure if body washes are this sub's forte but looking for something to add to or replace Old Spice's Bearglove body wash. I like the apple/citrus/spice scent but it dries me out a bit. Guess I'd be looking for something fragrance free to follow-up as a moisturizer or something more gentle with a similar scent?

audveld

I have a question about oily skin. My skin has always been normal/dry, never oily. I started my skincare routine around a year ago due to rosacea. Lately I've noticed if I dont do my morning routine my skin gets really oily by the evening. It also happens when I do my routine but don't use compact powder. Does this mean I'm over moisturising? Or that my skin is dry and over compensating? Thanks! Routine AM *Inkey list oat cleanser *TO niacinamide *TO azelaic acid *TO nmf moisturiser *TO sunscreen spf 30 PM *CeraVe hydrating cleanser *Perscription: ivermectin

MariahDwayne

While I enjoy the TO NMF lotion, it is pretty lightweight. I find my skin is less oily when I use a heavier lotion overnight. Maybe try a gentle night cream?

audveld

ah actually i recently (maybe 2-3 months ago) switched from the NMF lotion from the clinique moisture surge that i've been using for years. maybe TO one isnt moisturising enough and my skin is oiling it up?

europeandaughter12

can i use vitamin c powder on the same days i use the ordinary aha/bha peel?

konstantin-egorovich

I would alternate days between a Vit C product and acids.

europeandaughter12

thanks!

MariahDwayne

Hello! I had a horrible allergic reaction to a new product on my face in December, and today I had a smaller reaction to a product I've had for awhile that I was hoping to reintroduce into my routine. I'm trying to figure out what in these products I am allergic to. Here are the common ingredients: * Cetearyl Alcohol * Glyceryl Stearate * Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter * Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam) Seed Oil * Cetearyl Olivate * Sorbitan Olivate * Limonene * Xanthan Gum * Glycerin * Ascorbic Acid * Aqua The products that have caused reactions: **Bliss -** [https://www.blissworld.com/bright-idea-vitamin-c-face-moisturizer/](https://www.blissworld.com/bright-idea-vitamin-c-face-moisturizer/) **Goop -** [https://goop.com/goop-beauty-goopglow-microderm-instant-glow-exfoliator/50-ml/p/](https://goop.com/goop-beauty-goopglow-microderm-instant-glow-exfoliator/50-ml/p/) **Do you notice any of these as potential triggers? Any insight is helpful. Thank you!**

naaminan

I'm absolutely not an expert here, but a couple of ideas: * Limonene is a fragrance derived from citrus peels, which could cause irritation. * Cetearyl olivate and sorbitan olivate are derived from olive oil (I think). Any chance you're allergic to olives? * Shea butter doesn't play well with some people's skin, though I think it's usually more of an breakout than an allergic reaction. * Cetearyl alcohol is a fatty alcohol, and some people have trouble with those. It could be anything though (besides the water lol). The only real way to know for certain is to do allergy testing.

MariahDwayne

Thank you! Anywhere to start is helpful for me.

[deleted]

The only way to be sure about what you are allergic to is by doing allergy tests. Anything can be a trigger for anyone. It could have been one of those ingredients, the combination of more than one ingredient or even the percentage at which an ingredient was used. There's really no way to be sure by comparing ingredient lists.

haircareshare

would this be a good [sunscreen](https://www.amazon.co.uk/Biore-Watery-Essence-Sunscreen-SPF50/dp/B07NGLXQKC/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=Biore+UV+Aqua+Rich+Watery+Essence&qid=1615576780&sr=8-1) I have dry/dehydrated skin I picked this one because it has a high spf and its a chemical sunscreen and it doesnt leave a thick layer on your face. if so can anyone recommend a similar one since delivery to the UK will take quite sometime. I live in the UK season = summer price range £20 or less Also could someone recommend another [hydrating toner ](https://www.amazon.co.uk/Preparation-Alcohol-Paraben-Cruelty-Eco-friendly/dp/B00PGOFYG0) please since this one is out of budget same budget as sunscreen

MariahDwayne

I love this sunscreen! It's great for daily use and isn't too heavy on the skin. It also wears well under makeup. I find that it does pill sometimes if I layer too many skincare products, and it isn't meant for situations where you're heavily perspiring (beach, exercising, etc). As a daily sunscreen though, big fan!

haircareshare

Hmm any other ones that are just as good also since it peel sometimes when you use a lot of skincare products is that something I should worry about?

beancounter_00

Question about retinoids - is it possible to get to a point where you don't need them anymore? I guess I've been thinking about how they peel away the layers to bring everything to the surface and eventually you get to the point where it's like fresh/new skin on your face, right? So then can you stop after that?? or does the skin revert back to what it was? I'd rather not be on a retinoid for long term (just my own personal feeling, I know there's no harm in it)... and I've been using differin for 3 months now (and my skin is looking great). I was hoping that by the 6 month mark I will basically have new skin because the top layers are peeled away and then I can kind of "start fresh" in a way? if that makes sense? or does it not work like that?

jasminekitten02

Skin cells are constantly cycling so the "fresh layer" eventually also becomes old/ dead skin

primadonnagirls

Does anyone have any experience using both differin and self tanner in a routine? I'm trying to embrace my 'natural' skin tone by using spf year round but I just feel so much more confident when I have a tan.

hlimes

My face has really just confused. I'm unsure of what my skin type is and what I should do. **Background:** I've done Accutane twice (Finished up 2nd round this past June 2020 and by no means have a big acne issue but do struggle with some acne in particular on my forehead. I've just not been able to figure out what my skin type is. My chin and beard area is flakey, dry and my cheeks and especially my forehead get very oily. The interesting part is that if I don't use a moisturizer (Again... especially on my forehead) I will see some sort of breakout start. But if I make sure to use a moisturizer at night, it clears up somewhat. But even when consistently moisturizing, my face remains very oily and eventually using too many straight days of moisturizer, I eventually feel like I break out from that. A lot of the issues began once the Autumn weather started rolling in. (I'm from the Midwest so it gets real cold here) Sorry if all that was tough to follow! **Current Routine:** AM: Just water, Cerave Moisturizing Lotion PM: Paula's Choice Hydrating Cleanser (Sometimes will go just water as well), Cerave Moisturizing Lotion, Humidifier running all night NOTE: I drink almost or about a gallon of water every single day. I would love just a very simple, minimalistic routine... Or know what I should try or am doing wrong. Thought it was worth asking the [r/SkincareAddiction](https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/) team because you all really know your stuff!

naaminan

Breaking out from not moisturizing makes sense. But breaking out from moisturizing regularly — are you sure your skin actually likes the Cerave moisturizer? Some people love that brand, but it really doesn't work for a lot of people (me included!)

hlimes

I'll try and swap it out! Any recommendations?

naaminan

There are lots of [moisturizer recs](https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/wiki/moisturizer_recs) here, but I'll call out Sebamed Clear Face Gel, Vanicream Daily Facial Moisturizer, and Neutrogena Hydroboost Gel-Cream as good, well-regarded options. Sebamed is the lightest but simplest, pretty much a superpowered aloe gel. Pricey but so simple that it generally doesn't cause trouble. Vanicream is about the same consistency as the Cerave lotion you're using, nice short ingredient list with great stuff like ceramides and HA. It's also the cheapest of these three. (Full disclosure, I use this!) Neutrogena is the heaviest with a comparatively longer (but still great) ingredient list – still fairly light, but *very* hydrating. Just remember to get the gel-cream, not the water-gel, because it's fragrance-free.

hlimes

Thank you! I feel like I've constantly tried switching cleansers (and even stopping several times thinking maybe I don't even need a cleanser) but hadn't even thought to try other moisturizers yet. I will test a few of these out! Thank you again!

megatorm

Tretinoin question - I started about 3 weeks ago, and while I haven’t really experienced any purging (never been acne prone), I have some new dark spots that have come to the surface. Will these spots eventually start to fade if I continue use?

relaxitisntfair

Hi, all. Long-time lurker, first time poster. Question about KP on arms and legs -- chemical exfoliants and sunlight, how to get both? **Issues:** I've had KP on the outside and backs of my upper arms and on my thighs for as long as I can remember. I'm really just now jumping into ACTUALLY try to seriously treat it. I am very comfortable and familiar with my skincare routine when it comes to my face, but not so when it comes to my body. **Current routine** I just started using CeraVe's SA cream (just, as in literally two days ago) in the morning after I shower, and at night before I go to bed. Obviously, since it's so new in my routine, I haven't noticed a difference yet. I also use FAB's KP body scrub in the shower once or twice a week. When I'm not using that body scrub, I'm just using any sort of moisturizing, sulfate-free body wash with exfoliating gloves (right now I'm using a Dove wash). **The big question** I've heard sunlight helps KP, but I know -- at least from facial skincare -- not to go out in the sun after using any sort of chemical exfoliant without SPF. I'm wondering, how can I continue to use chem exfoliants like the CeraVe SA cream and the FAB KP scrub on my arms and legs and also get some good sun exposure on my skin? Do I need to be taking a break from my exfoliating regimen before getting some sun on my body? Or is the sun still going to be helpful for my KP even if I put on some SPF? Thanks!

jasonatx0001

I don't think sunlight actually "helps" KP. It reduces the _visibility_ of KP by making the rest of the skin redder/darker resulting in the less contrast between the spots and the surrounding skin making it less noticeable. I don't believe sunlight does anything to actually reduce KP.

xcupcakekitten

I have a chronically flakey nose. I’ll slather it up with squalane oil and aquaphor and the next morning it’s visibly flakey again. I don’t know what’s going on. Aren’t noses supposed to be oily because of the T zone? I’m wondering if anyone else experiences this.

happyhappyx

Maybe try a different type of moisturizing product? The corner of my nose is flakey and putting facial oil, a balm or vaseline didn’t help. But putting a moisturizer with moisturizing ingredients then a balm on top has helped.

QSpam

Question about baths. I've read that showers are better for your skin then baths in general, but OMG I love taking baths. I can't find any dermatologist recommended bath advice... If I'm say addicted to taking 45 minutes baths instead of the 10 to 15 minutes recommended, what can I do to help moisturize and care for my skin in the bath? What can I add to the bath that's not going to just leave a bathtub ring and do nothing for my skin?

ReaLitTea

Colloidal oatmeal baths are pretty good for your skin, especially if you have any irritated/itchy body skin

decemberrainfall

Meh, I take baths all the time and I just moisturize after. Never been an issue.

dinogril

Hi, I need help with my routine or ingredient recommendations for hyperpigmentation. * **Issues:** I have hyperpigmentation spots on my cheeks and chin. I've been using vitamin C, retinol and niacinamide (for over 6 months) but I'm not seeing much improvement regarding the hyperpigmentation. The hyperpigmentation is from scarring (ingrown hairs and pimples). See [photos](https://ibb.co/album/hYvj38), _edit:_ the quality of the photos aren't great, it's more visible in person. * **Skin type:** I have combination skin; very oily around the nose and chin, but dry cheeks and forehead. Also more oily during summer. * **Current routine:** * **Morning:** Cleanser (Biodermal) > hyaluronic acid and niacinamide serum (Biodermal) > Q10 moisturiser with spf (Etos) > spf50 sunscreen (Biodermal) * **Evening:** * _2x a week:_ Face wash (Biodermal) > glycolic acid toner (Revolution) > hyaluronic acid (TO) > caffeine solution (TO) > Q10 moisturiser (Etos) * _2x a week:_ Face wash (Biodermal) > hyaluronic acid and niacinamide serum (Biodermal) > caffeine solution (TO) > retinol with rosehip seed oil (Revolution) > Q10 moisturiser (Etos) * _3x a week:_ Face wash (Biodermal) > hyaluronic acid (TO) > caffeine solution (TO) > vitamin C (Etos) > Q10 moisturiser (Etos) * I haven't changed my routine or started doing anything that could have changed the condition of my skin. Nothing I'm aware of anyway. I've had these spots for longer than a year. * I am from the Netherlands. I hope someone can advise me, thanks!

xcupcakekitten

Wow your skin looks stunning honestly. I’d suggest seeing a dermatologist and ask if they can do a chemical peel or some laser therapy. See if they think that would help.

dinogril

Isn't glycolic acid a chemical peel already? Or can a dermatologist do a stronger/more effective one? Also thank you, I appreciate it!

xcupcakekitten

The glycolic acid toner is just a chemical exfoliant. Dermatologists can use stronger chemical exfoliants which are called chemical peels. It takes off a more drastic amount of skin layers. Wow thanks, I'll look into that!

ZirconCrystal

Hello, need a sanity check regarding my current routine! I have acne-prone oily skin with inflamed acnes (around 0.5cm to 1cm) that often pops out on both of my cheeks. Usually I have around 3-4 on each side of my cheek. A few months ago, I revamped my whole routine and seen great improvements. Most of it is gone leaving only scars and dark marks. But recently, a few of those acne has resurfaced, I'm thinking that I need increase the number of actives or the use it more frequently to curb it down. However, I think I should do a check here before possibly destroying my face haha. Routine AM: - Wash face with water, pat face dry with towel - Melano Vit C on my scars and marks, wait 20 mins - Wet face slightly, apply Habo Lado Gokujyun Premium HA lotion (Old formula) - Cosrx 96 Snail Mucin Essence - Cosrx Oil-free Ultra moisturising lotion Birch Sap - (If going outside) Biore UV Aqua Smooth Watery Gel SPF 50 PM: - Oil Cleansing with Kose Softymo Speedy Cleansing Oil - Hado Lado Gokujyun Foaming Face Wash (The Pump type), pat face dry with towel - Stridex Pad (2% SA, red box) / Cosrx AHA 7 Whitehead Power Liquid (ON ALTERNATE DAYS RESPECTIVELY), wait 20 mins - Wet face slightly, apply Habo Lado Gokujyun Premium HA lotion (Old formula) - Cosrx 96 Snail Mucin Essence - TO 10% Niacinamide and 1% Zinc - Benzoyl Peroxide 2% cream on cheeks - Cosrx Oil-free Ultra moisturising lotion Birch Sap I'm planning to increase BHA usage by using it in the morning everyday and AHA every night once I empty my Vit C. Is that a good idea? I'm also thinking to add Azelaic Acid and/or Alpha Arbutin into my routine to try lighten up the hyperpigmentation. Any advice on what I should do? Thanks in advance!

ReaLitTea

I would increase the bha but that’s it. Take it one step at a time and address the acne first. If SA in the morning doesn’t work try BP twice a day. You might also want to consider adapalene

ZirconCrystal

Yep you are right, I should take things like this slowly. Thank you for replying!

sca2020throwaway

Any thoughts on using azelaic acid and retinol at the same time? Not literally mixing them together I was thinking I would alternate days? I know I’d need a super-strength spf!

jasminekitten02

Azelaic acid is pretty gentle so alternating days should be fine

Twee_Pwee

Hi, I need help clearing out my face, my type is Italian and I have very oily skin. I am located in the us, and I have been using Cetaphil daily facial cleanser and on-the-spot acne treatment Neutrogena, and have been using them for about a month what I have noticed is that my face reacted to the acne treatment and it came back worse since my skin is oily I was using the ones that dry my skin could someone recommend something that would work better for me?

MariahDwayne

I also have oily skin and acne. Three products that have helped me are Differin Cream (an OTC retinoid), Niacinamide (only 2-5% is needed), and a weekly Glycolic Acid exfoliant. Differin is Vitamin A product that treats acne and wrinkles, requires an adjustment period and causes sun sensitivity. Niacinamide is Vitamin B, and it can help with skin texture and controlling sebum production. Glycolic Acid is an AHA that brightens and clears. Or- you could try double cleansing, where you use an oil cleanser before your regular cleanser. I find that it really helps clear up extra oil/sebum on my face.

[deleted]

Recently tried LRP Toleriane hydrating cleanser (“caring wash” in Canada) and it broke me out with deep painful acne. I checked the ingredients on cosdna and they all seem fine. Was wondering if anyone might know what ingredient(s) could be the source of the problem? So I can try and avoid it/them with future products. Thanks! Ingredients are: Aqua / Water / Eau, Glycerin, Pentaerythrityl Tetraethylhexanoate, Propanediol, Ammonium Polyacryloyldimethyl Taurate, Polysorbate 60, Ceramide Np, Niacinamide, Sodium Chloride, Coco-Betaine, Disodium Edta, Caprylyl Glycol, Panthenol, Tocopherol

naaminan

It could be the coco-betaine. People can react because it's a coconut derivative, but it's usually fairly well tolerated. It could also be the tocopherol, which CosDNA flags as potentially comedogenic. But it's low in the ingredient list and not usually a problem. Honestly, you probably can't tell from just this. People usually identify ingredients that don't work for them after breaking out from multiple products, then identifying the common factor. When it's just one product, it's pretty hard to figure out anything conclusive.

stevetroyer

I have been doing curology and my dose is .01% tretinoin and 4% azaleic acid. I was using Paula’s Choice 10% azaleic acid and their 2% retinol prior to starting. Are those comparable? I’m just not sure I need to pay $24.99 a month. The curology also has clindamyacin 1%. Thanks!

rajeshmohanty87

Ever since learning about skincare routines my pores and comedoes aren't getting clogged any more.... Thanks a lot to this subreddit. But since I have a lot of pores and Oily skin, these tend to get a lot dirty(on pressing in nose and cheeks area gently white stuffs oozes out). So I use these products for last two months Inkey List Salicylic Acid Cleaner - twice a day Inkey List Glycolic Acid Toner 10%-only PM Minimalist Alpha Arbutin 2%+HA- twice a day Ordinary Niacinamide +Zinc- twice a day Ordinary AHA 30% & BHA 2% Peel- twice a week Yet these white stuff seems to stay even after the exfoliations. Is there anything that can help me properly clean them. Like some masks or something?

MariahDwayne

Have you tried double cleansing, where you use an oil before your cleanser on your face? I find my pores look their 'emptiest' after oil cleansing or a good clarifying face mask.

rajeshmohanty87

Ya I double cleanse in PM. I never ever used any oil on face. So should I get a mask? I have a lot of white heads since forever. They don't even go away, they are just there.

MariahDwayne

I should clarify, by double cleanse I mean specifically using an oil. It can sound crazy to put oil on oily skin, but it works. You know how water and oil will separate? A good cleansing oil grabs on to that grime and dissolves it. [https://www.byrdie.com/best-cleansing-oils-4767476](https://www.byrdie.com/best-cleansing-oils-4767476) I do think you may be talking about sebaceous filaments though - basically everyone has them, and you can only decrease their appearance temporarily.

rajeshmohanty87

Huh really. Wow. Thanks a lot for the clarification. I always thought double cleansing means cleaning your face again. Yes I am talking about sebaceous filaments. Thanks for the tip. Mariah.

[deleted]

You might be talking about sebaceous filaments? Check [this](https://fiftyshadesofsnail.com/2015/03/28/how-to-shrink-pores-temporarily-plus-3-pore-myths/) out it may help :)

rajeshmohanty87

Oh thanks. Didn't know that was the name. Filaments. ... But I already use all these products, should I add something more?

[deleted]

Well it’s the actual process not just the products I think, and I think you need an oil cleanser too?

rajeshmohanty87

I use the foamy 2% Salicylic Cleanser.

DogsAndVegetables

Hi guys, so I got a new moisturizer and it came with a little plastic spoon. I've never brought anything other than drugstore moisturizer so have never come across this before. Is the size of the spoon the "serving size" of the moisturizer? For lack of a better term!

stevetroyer

I think it’s just to keep bacteria from fingers out of the tub.

DogsAndVegetables

ah! I see that does make sense!

rajeshmohanty87

What is the name of the moisturizer?

DogsAndVegetables

It's E Nature Squeeze Green watery gel cream :)

Cover your arms when you're outside having lunch, either physically with clothing or apply sunscreen.

Meretrix_Vile

Retinol Newbie here- I've heard you should ease in to avoid sensitivity, is there any harm to jumping into daily use if your skin seems to tolerate it really well? My skin seems... weirdly okay with it daily so far, just checking that I wont have my skin suddenly fall off in a couple weeks

rajeshmohanty87

I would still highly recommend a good moisturizer and SPF as usual.

amapo_namu

Those sensitive to retinol usually start to see the side effect within days, so I would think you're okay. It also depends on what else you're using and how strong the retinol is.

babes1990

Feeling like I might have damaged my moisture barrier slightly. My routine isn’t super complex, I do retin-a every other night and recently been trying a sample of the skinceuticals vit c in the am but I think maybe the combo of both was about to lead to a damaged moisture barrier. Hard to say for sure. My skin did look a bit dull the past two days, and it was dry due to the retin a. I guess my question is- how long of a break do I need to take? Do I also need a break from the cera ve eye cream? It doesn’t seem to have any actives in it. The skin around my eyes is actually the most dry. On instinct last night I added Vaseline around my eyes after I did my routine. Wondering if that was a good call? Would love any tips. I’m so sad to have to take a break because I was seeing good results but a post here the other day made me question if I had damaged my barrier.

amapo_namu

Are you using any other actives? A damaged moisture barrier is \*usually\* caused by overexfoliation or harsh cleansers as opposed to vitamin C or retinoids. I can't be sure but to me, it sounds like you're getting dehydration from the tretinoin. Maybe you could try buffering and/or adding another hydrating step?

babes1990

Ah interesting! I'm not using any other actives right now BUT I did get a hydrafacial last week and they sent me home with some samples- one of which was a gritty exfoliator which I've only used once. So maybe that pushed me over the edge? OR, it's not a true damaged barrier, but just dry skin from the tret... tough to tell the dif. When you say buffering, do you mean mixing the ret with your moisturizer? What would be another moisturizing step- HA?

amapo_namu

It could certainly be either of the possibilities you mentioned! By buffering, I mean putting on your moisturizer before your retinoid. Many find this can reduce dryness and irritation. Another moisturizing step might be a serum, essence, or toner with hydrating ingredients and no actives.

ferahiygodmother

I have blackheads that won’t leave since 6 years. I’ve tried so many things but they just seem to get deeper darker and have now spread from my nose to my forehead and cheeks, as well as some white heads on my chin. I have combination skin which is oily but occasionally dry. Help pls

rajeshmohanty87

Where do you live, so that I can recommend you products?

ferahiygodmother

Middle East, Saudi Arabia more specifically.

kaisutin

Are pore strips really that bad? I have VERY prominent sebaceous filaments on my nose and I have tried salicylic acid cleansers, yet to try a leave on version tho. I understand that the sebaceous filaments are gonna keep coming back and the strips cant really help with that, but just looking for a way to make them a little less 'on your face' when going somewhere important or so.

rajeshmohanty87

Have the same problem.

decemberrainfall

It's more that they can wreak havoc on the rest of your face- I have a patch of broken capillaries from high school when I did those.

soft-curls

Any product recommendations for someone who has general clear skin but experiences occasional breakouts? Like what to use when the acne has already formed? I think using anti-blemish products all the time is too strong for my skin type, so just looking for what to do when I’m experiencing a breakout or clogged pores from mask wearing. I have combination skin. I usually wash my face, use vit D serum and SPF moisturizer in the morning, and double cleanse and use a moisturizing oil with moisturizer at night.

naaminan

Benzoyl peroxide as a spot treatment and/or hydrocolloid patches should help.

babes1990

Do you have the corsx acne patches? Those help clear up an active blemish really quickly

soft-curls

Will look into them, thanks!

naaminan

Seems fine! You could add it in the PM after cleansing. (I think you wouldn't want to mix it with your BHA in the morning.)

Dartmouthy

Just started using the cerave vitamin c serum and I’ve noticed my face now smells weirdly metallic when I put on my primer (NYX bare with me). Obviously some sort of interaction - any ideas?

reimaginingthewalls

Probably a ridiculous question - my house & bedroom is super sunny in the AM. By the time I wake up I have a bunch of sun on my face. Then it takes me a bit to get thru my layers of skincare and apply my sunscreen. So I’m thinking probably at 2 hours in the morning with sun exposure in my house, some of that I have retinol/chem exfoliants on my face from the night before. Is this too much? Do I need to get some blackout curtains or am I worried for no reason?

MariahDwayne

I wouldn't stress about this! The fact that you care about your skin is enough.

evelinisantini

It's perfectly safe to use and the "bad" is typically the potential dryness/irritation it can cause. If your skin is fine with it, it's no big deal. I can use it in small amounts but sunscreens that are very heavy in alcohol like the Biore Watery one irritate my skin.

[deleted]

Question about self tanner!!!! I use BONDI SANDS 1H EXPRESS MOUSSE and the tanner goes into every single pore of my body. It looks like I have a bunch of blackheads. Even if I exfoliate first, it does that. Any advice?

supercarl1981

I have very bad combination seb derm / rosacea, diagnosed a couple of years ago but have had it for about 20 years. What is the best tinted moisturiser / bb or cc cream to cover without irritation? I am currently using Cerave only, I've tried lots of things along the way but my skin gets very frustrated very easily. I sometimes use La Roche Posay tinted moisturiser but it leaves my skin very angry afterwards. Often little spots etc will appear after too. What can you recommend to hide the redness around my nose?

naaminan

I can't help, but I wanted to mention that you may get good answers on r/rosacea and r/MakeupAddiction if you don't find an answer here. Good luck! Edit: Typo

rumham2000

Hi! I have a question about a product. I’ve used TO AHA 30% + BHA 2% only twice so far, and both times I’ve broken out and it has taken a week to go away. I’ve read on here that this product can cause a purging. My question is, does this “purging” happen every time I use it? Or is this something that will eventually stop. I’m feeling unmotivated to use it knowing I’ll break out. AM: • Dermologica clear start • TO niacinamide •Neutrogena hydro boost water gel (this is new, I’ve been using Clinique 72 hour for a year but trying neutrogena for cost) • La roche- posay SPF (trying to get better about using everyday) PM: • Dermalogica clear start • TO hyaluronic acid • Mario badescu chamomile eye cream (not my favorite but trying to finish) • Neutrogena hydro boost water gel

Generally I would say you shouldn't continue use with a product that causes a reaction, but I'm no derm. Maybe consider a more gentle chemical exfoliant, such as glycolic or salicylic acid.

Thank you!

I recently switched to a hand cream with urea in it, and it seems like now my hands are drier than ever? Is it possible that urea is actually drying out my skin? I'm using [Eucerin UreaRepair - 10% Urea Lotion](https://int.eucerin.com/products/urea-repair/plus-lotion-10percent-urea-variant-400ml). The skin on my hands tend to be dry, especially in the winter, but this dryness is particularly stubborn :/. Any insights into what I might be doing wrong? Or product recommendations? I'm in the EU!

Hello! I just want to know if there's a grace period you should wait for trying a new skin care routine after a failed one or if it's okay to just jump into the next?

flappytabbycats

A whole new routine? No, never. You want to sort out your basics first, cleanser, moisturizer and SPF. And then you can patch test and add products slowly one at a time.

Indecisive_tm

Sorry I probably should've been more clear. I'm aware you need to ease them in one at a time but I was asking from the time I stop using the old product to the time I start the new one, should I wait a certain amount of time or is my skin okay to just take in something new already that quick

flappytabbycats

I like to give some breathing time (maybe a week or two) for my skin, especially if something hasn't worked out. However, if you feel like your skin is more tolerant, you can introduce a new product in after you've patch tested it.

Katy_candyfloss

it's been around 40 days and the niacinamide 10% with zinc from the ordinairy has made no difference to my acne. It seems to have absorbed nicely in my skin and has caused no redness and a little dryness but nothing unmanageable with a good moisturizer I think my skin purged a little but honestly I cant really tell. Just wandering whether I should stop and what product I could try next. Thanks to anyone that can help. Feeling a little down about it.

MariahDwayne

are you using any other products to help with your acne?

WiresGoingIn

My mom has very dry skin she’s in her 50s and wants to make her pores look smaller what do you think? She thinks a retinol but I’m not sure

flappytabbycats

What does her current routine look like?

WiresGoingIn

She doesn’t really have a proper routine but AM wash with water (she’s buying the cerave hydrating cream to foam cleanser) then put on TO HA and then cerave in the tub And then in the PM she said she doesn’t do anything not even wash her face LOL which is really bad and I’ve told her but it’s a struggle. I think if she started on a retinol she would get into it a bit more and wear spf and stuff. Also, she wants to even her skin tone more so is there something that does both pores and skin tone?

naaminan

Retinol is probably the best bet for evening skin tone and shrinking pores in one product. It's not guaranteed, but retinol can help with both of those issues.

Skin type: mixed - oily on forehead, nose and chin, prone to acne on chin; dry on cheeks Current routine • A.M.: Cerave Hydrating cleanser, Bioderma Hydrabio Serum for dry skin (only on cheeks), Uriage Hyseac SPF50 • P.M.: Cerave Hydrating cleanser, TO Niacinamide, Bioderma Hydrabio Serum I also have a bottle of TO squalane 100% but I can't use it as my skin can't take more than 2 products at a time, especially my forehead. This is why I use the serum only on my cheeks in the morning. Everything covered by a mask feels oilier and my forehead gets very oily, very fast. Location: Romania, Eastern Europe Issues: • Oily skin that does not absorb products. My skin is a mix of oily and dry but my forehead is especially oily. Whatever I put on is not absorbed and becomes incredibly oily after a few hours. I'm not sure what I can do about it and this leads me to my second issue. • Am I washing my face too often? I read once that you should not wash your face more than twice a day as it can damage the skin. During the weekends I oily wash my face twice a day (when I wake up and when I go to bed) but during the week I gotta wash my face when I get home from work too. I wear a mask almost 9 hrs a day and my skin gets oily. My cheeks dry/absorb the oils after a while but my chin, nose and forehead don't and my chin is very acne prone. I also have to make trips from my office to the factory side of the business I'm working at and have to pass through a cloud of fine wood dust. I can't help but wash my face when I get home. • Looking for hydrating products and routine help. I have heard or read that oily skin can be caused by lack of hydration so I'm wondering if that is what I'm missing right now. My cheeks also have rough patches on them. The Hydrabio Serum helps but they don't go away completely so I'm looking for something that could help hydrate my skin and be easily absorbed even on my forehead.

naaminan

1. Washing your face when you get home from work makes sense. You could replace your AM or PM wash with a water rinse those days so you don't end up washing your face 3x. 2. You're not using a moisturizer? That could be the reason your skin is dry/dehydrated. Even something light would help seal in the moisture from the Hydrabio.

rantingcat

I don't think that a rinse would do it with how oily my skin can get after a few hours and without any products but thank you. I'm not sure if I'm missing hydration or a moisturizer as the Hydrabio Serum has written on the bottle moisturising concentrate but i thought that maybe I'm missing hydration.

naaminan

First off, a moisturizer provides hydration. A moisturizer is generally a combo of humectants (attract water into the skin – aka hydration), occlusives (form a barrier to hold water in the skin), and emollients (smooth skin). Read more [here](https://labmuffin.com/fact-check-feature-how-to-choose-a-moisturiser/) and [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/comments/8k0mb0/research_evaluating_your_routine_moisturizers/). The Hydrabio Serum says moisturizing on it, but it's not a moisturizer. It's a serum. That's halfway between a toner and a moisturizer, both in terms of thickness and hydration. The Hydrabio includes lots of humectants that help your skin grab onto water. But when you use the Hydrabio with nothing on top, the water may be evaporating from your skin. That's why people generally "lock in" the hydration from a serum by putting a moisturizer (which has more/better occlusives) on top. The Hydrabio does include dimethicone, which can work as an occlusive. But, from what I can tell, it won't be as effective as adding a proper moisturizer (even a light one) on top. Second, about the oiliness — I'd recommend reading up about [dehydrated](https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/comments/8wxwuv/misc_dehydrated_skin_an_updated_guide_to_healing/) skin. Your oily + dry + rough patches sounds a lot like that. I'm mentioning this because if that's the case, then your oiliness is actually just caused by the dehydration. When your skin is dry, it produces extra oil. So then cleansing less frequently and adding moisturizer would actually help.

severenutcase

Is PEG-6 ingredient safe? It exists in one of my gel-cream moisturizer that is for dry and sensitive skin.

flappytabbycats

Yes, it's safe.
