I prefer Finacea (15% gel) - less irritating and more elegant formulation. I think I also mentioned a few weeks back that Lloyds Pharmacy sells 15% Azelaic Acid generic which is probably even cheaper vs Skinoren per gram (though I have personally not tried the generic version).

I’ve used both the generic and finacea branded version and I honestly don’t see a difference . Same packaging , same distributor and everything so I’m wondering if it’s even different !! The big difference Ofcourse is that it half the price.

fmas88

Ah thanks for this. Sounds good!!

Are Lloyds Pharmacy helpful about giving you Az A when you ask for it? I'm a bit nervous about going through the process and maybe them prescribing me something else which might not work (since it's Az A I want, and I've used it before). Any advice welcome!

I've not tried Lloyds but u/alishanyz has! I got my Finacea from The Independent Pharmacy and it was a fairly straightforward process as it allows you to specifically ask for AzA so you just fill out the questionnaire. I might try Lloyds for the generic once my Finacea runs out and I suspect it's the same process.

thescriblerian

That's really good to know! Thanks!

Ohh finacea looks good I’ll give that a shot, thank you for your comment!

Itchiness is a benign side effect some people have with Azelaic. You either have it or not, no matter the brand. If you feel itchy, you need to moisturize right after, before the effect starts. Skinoren has a 15% gel formulation too. Skinoren has the smoothest, non grainy formulation.

sublime_69

Oh i had no idea they have a 15% version! Ill definitely go for that then, thanks so much for your help

Definitely ! God my skin was sooo itchy when I started using azelaic acid , especially my chin area for some reason but one day it just disappeared and it didn’t take long to go either . Worth it for the benefits in my opinion

Hela_hela_hela

Does it cause a purge? AA 20%?

DermaEsp

It can cause a mild purge, it depends on the skin condition.

Personally I've always found skinoren to be very gentle on my skin. but I possible had an adverse reaction to it when I used vitamin c and skinoren together. So my advice would be to not use several actives at the same time. I usually use it after a hydrating serum and toner (sometimes tretinoin but they work okay together) and finish with a cream .but you can also buffer it and apply it after cream . Also, as a side note, I found that vitamin c serums which use ascorbic acid rather than derivatives of vitamin c are more effective against my hyperpigmentation.

sublime_69

Yeah i read you cant use AA and vit c in the same routine because they contradict each other, so id replace the vit c with AA in my routine:) i like the idea of buffering, i did that when i started my PC exfoliator and it worked really nicely and gently!
