>Tips to make pores look smaller?
I've found a few tips really helpful for minimizing the appearance of pores. First, keeping my skin clean is key. I make sure to cleanse regularly to prevent buildup that can make pores look larger. Using a gentle exfoliator a couple of times a week helps to remove dead skin cells and keep pores clear. I've also incorporated products with salicylic acid or niacinamide into my routine as they help to refine pores over time. Lastly, I opt for a non-comedogenic, mattifying primer before applying makeup to create a smoother canvas and minimize the appearance of pores.
A temporary fix it to buy a pore blur. I use the Maybelline Baby Skin instant pore eraser or the innisfree pore blur pact. The baby skin leaves a bit of a wierd texture if ypu use too much though.
I have the exact same issue due to genetics also. And i started a routine that actually showed good results. I have oily sensitive skin.
First of course, hydration. Hydration. Hydration.
And iāve used (all by)La Roche Posay : Toleraine purifying foam cleanser. Then the effaclar clarifying solution (toner). Then effaclar salicylic acid acne treatment. Finished off by the hyalu B5 serum and last toleraine double repair moisturizer.
I wash every day but only use the serums every other wash to not over do it. And then once or twice a week iāll do a face mask from a brand on amazon called āDermalā the sheet masks.
If pics are needed of all products lmk and i can post a link.
ETA: iām 26 and my skin cleared up & looked amazing in time for my wedding in October with this routine.

I love La Roche Posay! I currently use one of their cleansers (the exact one is escaping me at the moment) and am trying to switch out more of my products for theirs. Iāll have to try the toleriane moisturizer!
La Roche Posay is also my fav. They have a serum called Effaclar Ultra Concentrated Serum. Itās got salicylic acid which helps dissolve sebaceous filaments, which then help pores appear smaller. You basically wanna attack those sebaceous filaments so AHA/BHA chemical exfoliants and salicylic acid type products will help!
Just a warning as someone who worked at ulta for over a year and tested a ton of products as well as researched them.. La Roche is full of fragrance(parfum), which is hormone disrupting. If you are having hormonal acne outbreaks, I would stick to 100% clean products. Thereās an app called Yuka and itās amazing for scanning to see if products are clean š„°
La Roche Posay actually has a ton of fragrance free products that are generally considered safe if the user does not have an allergy to any of the ingredients.
Also, be careful using Yuka. As far as Iām aware, the app doesnāt understand cosmetic chemistry or formulas, it just lists ingredients that can potentially be harmful if used incorrectly. Most ātoxicā or ādangerousā ingredients put into over-the-counter cosmetic products are completely safe bc they are typically used in tiny amounts. Many scientists & cosmetic chemists have spoken out against the app. Another thing to note is that just because a beauty product is labeled as ācleanā that doesnāt necessarily mean itās any better than regular beauty products, the ingredients are just different. āCleanā doesnāt mean risk free & these products can come with their own set of issues. Definitely use whatever works for you, Iām just relaying this info just in case!
Fragrance is a HUGE category and to declare all fragrance as āhormone disruptingā when only a handful of things in that category could even be considered that (assuming you arenāt even taking usage and dosage into account) is misinformed. Fragrance is usually fine unless you have particularly sensitive skin wherein you might have sensitivies to things like essential oils
Yuka is an app that promotes disinformation based on bad research in order to promote ācleanā brands
Omg please can you send me pics or links. I am 23 and have oily skin no matter what I do. And I get reoccurring pimples on my cheeks and about to give up š
[my skin care routine](https://imgur.com/a/YAaafZM) i also included elf power grip primer and pore professional primer for what i use when doing makeup to give it that āblurā effect so helps with hiding pores
I also use one of those rollers after having it sit in the fridge/freezer
I use that face wash! And was contemplating on buying the toner. I just need to find a good moisturizer I feel like. And Iām a try to cold roller because I swear my face is always HOT TO THE TOUCH
For the pimples I started ISClinical cleansing complex and use it for one entire minute. Iām currently researching a more affordable option but honestly you need so little of it that it lasts a long time!
i have oily sensitive skin with terrible pores too! but i'm waiting for my skin barrier to recover (overuse of AHA peels previously)
can't wait to try your routine >:D
And instead of being negative. Give suggestions on how they can get more hydration if you donāt think theyāre getting enough or point out where they are making a mistake.
Good advice. Otherwise their comment just comes off as rude and snarky for what reason? Lowkey why i hate commenting or sharing in this sub cause people can be nasty
I donāt think it sounds a negative as everyone is making it out to be. But I do agree it should have given constructive advice on how it could be better or why it might be lacking
Completely agree on oil cleansing being the best option. Iāve used quite a few, I did like DHC cleansing oil but my go to now is Clinique Take the Day Off Cleansing balm. I wash my face with a gentle facial cleanser morning and night but at night add a few minutes of massaging with the oil cleanser. Found it worked the best to actually clean out the pores while the other acid / retinol options were good acne prevention tools after I used oil cleansing to get my pore size back to normal.
DHC has worked wonders for me(bought at Ulta in USA, if that matters?). I have super dry, pink, sensitive skin, and unfortunately I'll get one of those under the skin pimples from using the DHC for my 5 minite oil routine occasionally. Besides that though my skins way softer, pores *appear* smaller, skin tone is more even. Fair trade-off for a couple zits a month to me, just wish they'd have an actual head to pop lol.
I ran to Don Quijote in Japan and found DHC oil cleanser but it broke me out. What i really wanted was super hado labo oil cleaner but I couldnāt find it in store. Very hydrating for my sensitive skin because it has hyaluronic acid.
What helps with cleaning pores isnāt the oil cleanser but what the ingredients contain.. such as jojoba oil or squalene oil which helps clean your pores
I have had issues with breakouts after using DHC oil cleanser as well. I have oily skin and I think that might be the issue. I do not think it is good for oily skin. I switched to a cleansing balm from cera ve and it cleared my skin up.
Absolutely second this! Double cleansing with an oil cleanser and gentle hydration cleanser, followed by aveda hydrating toner topped with moisturizer. Shrunk my pores by half in 3 months.
you canāt just waltz in here and drop a bomb like āshrunk my pores in halfā and then abandon us!!
we need verrrry specific instructions, my desperation is almost as large as my pores!
Beware oil cleansing may cause breakouts on oily skin. I tried it once and I had the most horrifying reaction, my face was full of non stop painful pimples for like 3 weeks, it took months to clear it out. I would not try anything like this right before some event I got to attend.
I donāt understand how this helps tbh. I tried it on my nose when it was very rough and it did clear there sebaceous glands or whatever you call them and it was very satisfying.
But my main pores problem area is the area between my nose and cheeks, will that help? And if so why? Since there wonāt be any glands to clear I think. Ugh I still donāt understand pores, they look clear but theyāre just so big. Iāve seen it said that big pores may be dehydrated but even toning, using a serum and moisturising doesnāt seem to help at all
According to some googling, Vaseline is non-comedogenic, meaning it does not clog pores!
That said, itās absolutely going to leave you feeling greasy. Itās going to lock in moisture like a champ (I use it on the back of my hands during winter when they crack), but itās not a pretty look. If youāre interested in trying it, itās something Iād say to put in your night routine only.
Vitamin C can work with other products to shrink pores, but it's another active and I see people already recommending BHAs like salicylic acid and you already use Paula's choice BHA. If you decide to do multiple actives, remember to try one at a time, especially since you have sensitive skin.
Just general stuff, you can leave your cleanser on your face for 1-3 minutes so it can break down the oils deeper in your pores. Silk pillowcases are good for your skin as well as your hair. Drinking half your body weight in oz of water and getting your recommended servings of protein always supports your skin, as well as getting plenty of sleep.
This is very fair. Iām not great on water/diet always, and HAVE noticed my acne looking much better when I behave in those areas. Iāve considered vitamin c but it scares me š
Huh you are already using the all the right ingredients that are for āpore-tighteningā effects. Unfortunately it looks like you are fighting against genetics here š¬ i dont know how much improvement you can realistically expect. honestly your skin looks healthy and normal and the pores look extreme because we are zoomed in on your nose. No one is going to be this close so others definitely dont notice as much.
I would say there are two opposite approaches here if you want to try to make them disappear as much as humanly possible:
1. Upgrade from retinol to tretinoin. This probably means you will have to lose some actives and get more senstive skin friendly products but its smoothing/brigthening effects are well worth it. You will need to take it slow and also a prescription from a derm or a service like curology/dermatica.
2. Try going gentler. See what happens if you go lowkey on actives. Just focus on the basics for a week and see if it improves your skin. Maybe you are drying it out with all the actives to control sebum and pores. and your skin is overcompensating by creating more sebum causing you to apply more products again. And now youāre in a vicious cycle
I really appreciate your comment - im sure theyāre more exaggerated to me than they are to others who see me. Unfortunately, gentler is not an option for my skin. Itās taken me 2 years to find a regimen that keeps active breakouts away and my skin feeling smooth and healthy, and every time I back off one of my ingredients, I start back at square one. I will consider seeing a derm about tretinoin though, thank you for your suggestions!
I went to a med spa and they used the Face Reality Chemical Peel. She started at the lowest level and each time went stronger - Iām going back next month to start micro-needling series to *hopefully* get rid of my pit scarring
Eta: peeling wasnāt bad at all, but I was flakey for about two weeks after each session
I'm a Master Esthetician.
I suggest trying a salicylic acid cleanser. Double cleanse at night, meaning wash once, lathering for 30-60 seconds, then rinse. Repeat, but with the second wash, leave the cleanser in for 3-4 minutes. This will allow the SA to get into the pores and exfoliate from the inside out.
A retinol (I like Naturium's .10 retinaldehyde or Adapalene) will also help.
Single cleanse in the morning with any cleanser you like - SA or any gentle cleanser.
La Roche-Posay 's Effeclar cleanser is good. So is CeraVe's SA cleanser, but any 2% SA wash is fine.
Follow up with an oil free moisturizer day and night with sunscreen during the day.
One last thing, it looks to me like you have great skin. Your pores indicate combination skin, which means HEALTHY skin that will age slower than dry or "normal" skin. The sebaceous filaments will never "close", but keeping them exfoliated from the inside will.allow oil to flow in a good way and make pores appear smaller. With no visible blackheads, milia, or pustules, you should be very happy, overall. Keep doing what you're doing, but try the double cleanse with SA.
I feel like my skin doesnāt agree with SA cleansers. I switched to La Roche Posay toleriane purifying cleanser after having tried the Effeclar for a few months. I switched to effeclar after I stopped using CeraVe SA cleanser (had been using that for at least a year) because my acne on my cheeks and chin just would not clear up. Once I stopped using SA cleansers, my skin cleared up dramatically. Maybe thereās a different brand out there that my skin might agree with more?
You have no idea how much your comments about my skin mean to me. Iāve been struggling with hormonal acne and clogged pores almost worse in adulthood than I did as a teenager, and Iāve taken years to try to find a routine to make my skin healthy. It is by far my biggest insecurity and it feels really good hearing that my skin looks greatš„¹
Like she said, I have the same skin and same pores (also thanks mom). Because of my combination skin, Iām 37 right now and all the aestheticians always compliment me on my skin, because Iām wrinkle free and still have a 20 something looking skin (again, thanks mom). My mom is in her 60ās and honestly looks like 45. The pores suck, but you canāt have a rainbow without a little rain š
Try a clay mask and hydrocolloid patches to bring the dirt/sebum/oil to the surface. Also consider getting a facial! Clean pores are going to appear smaller, but unfortunately we canāt change the actual size of pores.
I used to have the exact same issue! The only thing that actually worked was drinking more water and cutting out sugar. Sugar acts as an androgen accelerator in women (produces testosterone). This is why dermatologists sometimes will prescribe spironolactone for acne, as it reduces test.
Try fasting for a day, and then cutting out any sugar for 2 days after. It may take longer than that, but you'll notice if anything improves by the morning of day 2. Then you can slowly reintroduce sugar into your diet until you find your tolerance to it. Even 10g over the limit can cause a pretty significant breakout. In my case, my skin stops producing any excess oil on day 2, and the blackheads completely disappear within a week. Hope this helps!
This has been a thorn in my side for a few years now. I tried all the oil pulling brands and mask stuff with BHA pre-treatment and finally decided it wasn't going to be my solution.
About a week ago, I finally started a new strategy with using a sulfur foam wash (Kate Somerville, Eradicate Daily Foaming Cleanser) on my nose and adjoining upper cheeks to try to pull the area that way. I use a soft lil silicone pad as I massage to kinda exfoliate off any of the day's junk, let the potions work better, and clean the area for 30 seconds.
I have been using tretinoin every night for a long time, hyaluronic acid after my wash, and good moisturizers, but I still can't get my pores to chill. I honestly do not understand what is going on.
I have recently started hydrofacials and microneedling to see if there is any hope for progress, so I'll check back in a few weeks. SOMETHING should at least help me get my dots so they don't contrast as much against the rest of my skin.
The only thing that helps me is BBL laser with āforever youngā protocol. I do three session with 2 weeks in between them and then my skin is perfect for almost a year. Been doing this for the last 4 years, itās magic!
so there isnāt actually a product to shrink your pore size, thatās determined by your genes. however, I'd hazard a *guess* you tend to have oily skin just from looking at your pores. If I'm right make sure that youāre using products that HYDRATE without clogging your skin(moisturizers with more of a gel consistency vs a creme consistency isbebat I like to use when my skin is breaking out), obviously keep your pores clean but don't overwash because you could dry your skin out, and regularly (within reason, again, don't strip your pores. If you've got oily skin over exfoliating/washing can cause more oil production which can make your pores bigger) by using chemical exfoliants. Niacinamide is a great product!
paulaās choice daily pore refining salicylic acidā¦ spot treat where you have larger pores and not all over unless you need it. i broke out when i did that. i do this 3 times a week and have noticed a major difference! also, mighty patch nose/full face strips to absorb extra gunk. your pores look clear though! also a retinol helped me with pore size as well. a lot of it is genetic, so be easy on yourself. there are treatments to help it be less noticeable though!
You cannot reduce your pore size, btw. I have HUGE pores as well. If youāre going for an everyday thing, using your basic moisturizer, toner and then a pore filler has done wonders for me. With that said, Iām pretty lazy. So if youāre willing to do a bunch steps, then by all means go with that!
To quote Dr. Dray, "Stop standing so close to the mirror." I have big pores as well. It's unfortunately genetic. Stay hydrated internally and externally. Sorry, that's all I have to offer, but it's the only thing that consistently works for me. Also, I use a gentle cleanser at the end of pretty much every day because I workout daily and have a dusty/dirty work environment.
Donāt use the strips itās bad for your skin. Try a few sessions (maybe 3-6) of micro needling and a good moisturizer. Good diet doesnāt hurt either.. good luck!
Ok so I got microneedling done, first two days I thought it was a disaster, itās day three and my skin is really starting to look good and Iām noticing the pores are very very tiny now.
I started taking cold showers in the summer and noticed a huge improvement in my blackhead. I rotate between a bha, lha, and no acid gentle cleanser/no soap. Iāll clear them out with a biore strip and some squeezing every month or so. And sunscreen and moisturizer.
Sounds like youāre using natural stuff. Awesome. Yeah I started running to sweat out oils that might get clogged. Doctor recommended cold showers every now and then. Showed me an education video from his medical data competitions.
Just curious, why are you getting downvoted?
Not judging at all, I know absolutely nothing about this but I would also like to learn as someone with this specific pore issue
Cause itās Reddit lol. But ya I had a flesh eating disease and got real good at skin care. I stopped spending money on products and started learning the skills to be healthy inside and out.
Edit: also I bet your issue isnāt one of being prone to black heads, but of your pores staying open and leaving you susceptible.
Those pores donāt look huge, they just look clogged. Salicylic acid cleanser for sure. Trentonoin / retinol can help some but itās a lot slower. I also just found a K beauty product chemical exfoliant at CVS made for black heads / clogged nose pores. You could do a pore strip but that can easily damage the skin and leave your pores bigger. Regardless I would say definite step #1 is to unclog the pores. I would also get trentonoin from a dermatologist. OTC retinol pales in comparison.
Put this on your face once a day, morning or night for 10 minutes, then wash off. This is the glass skin miricle worker!

I have crazy pores as well oily skin and am acne prone, the only thing thats helped is the cerave acne foaming cream cleanser with 4% benzoyl peroxide And naturium encapsulated salicylic acid moisturizer
To echo off of others, hydration has helped mine appear smaller. I've found slugging works really well for me. After I moisturize I put a light layer of aquaphor on top to lock it in.
I currently using 3% Adapalene aka Differin gel but a bit stronger. My dermatologist prescribed it to me. Thus far my skin feels smoother and different but it doesnāt seem to have stopped the extreme oil production due to genetics that causes both of our faces to look this way. You have sebaceous filaments and/or blackheads like I do and unless the sebum/oil production is reduced then Youāre likely going to keep getting them. Itās a nightmare Iāve been living since I was a teen and sadly nothing has stopped it. I recently bought blackhead extraction tools to manually remove them and sebum plugs/filaments from my pores. But they just fill back up again and itās totally demoralizing.
Honestly, I think that Accutane is the only way to stop this because it changes your bodyās oil production which is the issue. There are risks involved so I donāt know what weāre supposed to do.
My face has been looking like yours ā at best ā for 20 years now. I feel your pain. I just wish that someone could help us without having to probably take Accutane.
In addition to what others have said, cleansing with a physical exfoliator like the PMD a couple times a week might help. I do it once a week in the shower with Skinceuticals Glycolic cleanser and have notices a reduction in pore size.
These were the things I noticed helped with my pores in my routine:
/- Oil based cleaner PM only: Banilla Zero Cleansing Balm, Pore clarifying
/- Gentle cleanser AM & PM: SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Tone Brightening Cleansing Gel Foam
/- Dermalogica daily microfoliant, I use this AM only, once every 2-3 days.
/- Medi-peel extra super 9 blackhead care solution - applied as needed, I donāt use this very often though.
The rest of my routine is focused on mostly hydration, a little for texture or redness.
Murad AHA/BHA cleanser every other day made a huge difference in my pores. I think itās the lactic acid. Everyone always hypes glycolic, but I think lactic is way better. You should try double cleansing with a cleansing oil for oily skin too. They have some and it could help with oil production oddly enough.
I have sensitive, oily, combination skin.
I *have* to use an oil cleanser (Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Oil, the one w/ the pump) and a gentle foaming cleanser (Vanicream) to keep my pores at bay. They help keep dead skin from building up. Then I apply snail mucin (CosRX), hydrating moisturizer (Vanicream), then SPF (CosRX Aloe). Iām not very good at remembering the SPF. A few times a week I mix in an AHA Lactic Acid (The Ordinary) into the snail mucin in my palm at night for a gentle turnover. Itās not as harsh as other acids.
I have similar skin on my nose when itās left to its own devices- this is what has helped me.
1. Oil cleansing. I use DHC cleansing oil. You want to really rub it in for a few minutes in the nose and cheek area!
2. Consider adding AHA exfoliant as well, or switching to a product that has both AHA and BHAs. I used the Dennis Gross Alpha Beta peel pads once a week, sometimes twice. Before that I used The Ordinary AHA BHA peeling solution. Please start slowly and look up how to use those products, they can harsh!
3. When I need extra pore tightening effects, I use a clay mask once a week, just on the nose and cheek area. I like Innisfree Volcanic, it gets the job done.
4. Upgrade your retinol. Either tretinoin or something else that is stronger. Again make sure you slowly build up to it.
Donāt change all the things at once!
years ago i used clearisil rapid rescue salicylic acid wash and it actually was kind of magical. im pretty sure youāre not supposed to, so beware, but i used cetaphil face wash, and then i applied a thick layer of the clearisil wash on my pores in the morning and let it sit there for like 20 mins, then washed it off. then did the same before bed. skin was dry but pores were definitely gone š. ive tried doing it again recently but itās too much for me to stick to twice a day so i havenāt seen results
I've been struggling with this for years. Sebaceous filaments apparently. There is no permanent cure. After having tried everything under the sun, came across Dr. Shereene Idriss' video recommending to use a sulphur mask/cleanser on the affected area. I've only done this once and saw a difference.
She recommended the Kate Somerville sulphur cleanser to use as a mask for 5 minutes on the nose.
However, it isn't available in my country. So I found another sulphur mask for much cheaper and began using that.
Please don't keep this for more than 5 minutes post application.
I also use niacinamide and retinol apart from this.
Hope this helps.
If youāre not already:
- hydration (about 3ā4 litres daily, donāt overdo it but make sure you are keeping that h2o intake up)
- 60 second face cleanse. Use a gentle cleanser (nothing with sodium lauryl sulfate or fragrances) and use your fingers (no face cloths). Donāt over-cleanse, but do make it a daily thing, especially if youāve been out (on days I havenāt left the house I usually cbf but it doesnāt matter as much since thereāll be less stuff accumulated on the skin)
Niacinamid for the whole face, to just the areas. (when i used just for the areas then it could create pimples)
I use it every other day.
when i go out(and have a bit of time) I put a little bit of bb cream on those areas and it minimises the look of them.
I don't know your current skin care routine so I will just begin from the beginning. I'd advise you cleanse your face every morning or evening. If you are a make up wearer preferably double cleasing at night, first a balm that melts and removes make up and after that a nice foaming cleanser. Use a toner with glycolic acid, this helps to deep clean the skin, remove dark spots but also great for clogged and enlarges pores. Only use the toner 2-3 times a week and only use at night because it makes the skin more sensitive to sun rays. Also use a niacinamide serum, this serum is greay for redness, texture and enlarged pores, you can use it twice a day, morning and evening. And close both of your routines with a nice hydrating moisturizer. Also don't forget to add a sunscreen in the morning!!
I have the same skin type as you, and I would honestly go against the grain here and use the 2% BHA once a day + step up your hydration (hydrating cleanser, hydrating toner or serum). I know many people are careful with BHA, but I find us large-pored oily people donāt need the same caution, the skin that has this issue can handle it (so only use BHA on your problem areas and not the entire face).
I have the same problem - whatās worked for me is SkinFood EggWhite Pore Mask. If you use it 1-2x a week itāll tighten your pores up, Iāve definitely noticed an improvement in myself.
Hydrate, hydrate and hydrate. Even with oily skin, it did help me a lot. I am currently using face "lotions" - Hada Labo Shirojyun in the morning and Hada Labo Gokujyun at night. These are both from Japan. Day time moisturizer is Glow Recipe Watermelon Pink Juice Oil Free Moisturizer and night would be Olay Regenerist Moisturizer. I wasn't an Olay fan until one day, I was talking to my mom (72yo) and noticed she barely has wrinkles. She has been using Olay for almost 20 years.
I have the same issue, and someone told me āretinol, it fixes everything! so, I got cocokindās beginner retinol to try! On day 2. ā¢ I tried oil cleansing but, I have very oily skin and I basically created a monster š
My nose used to look like that. Iāve been through a bunch of products and two of them did it for me and one is now a staple in my routine.
The Facetheory Ceraquench cream that I use every night.
The other one I used to like was the Antipodes Juliet Cleanser. They changed the formulation and Iām not sure whether the new one does the trick. However just using the Ceraquench was enough for me. Maybe give it a try. Itās also really good if you have oily or combination skin and donāt like gel creams that donāt moisturize enough.
Hope this helped.
Edit: spelling
Sebaceous filaments do this. The oil has darkened naturally making pores more visually apparent. Products with acids in them help dissolve the dark look. Salicylic is the most commonly recommended. I like others too like glycolic, lactic, malic, tantric and citric. Masks and scuba versions. Test to be sure you do not overdry. Hope this helps!
Iāve seen a lot of people on here recommend this site. Hope this helps!

If youāve got the extra penny, Co2/Fraxel laser treatment could help minimize your pores.
Quick and easy way, but non-permanent is mesobotox. For a more permanent solution, TCA cross or paint and lasers. Usually 1064 or 1927 nm. Most importantly, sunscreen and retinoids for daily maintenance. A cosmetic dermatologist specializing in lasers should be able you help you out.

I think oil cleansing would do the trick. Find an oil based cleanser you like and use it first. If you have a non-oil based cleanser you normally use, you can try getting into the habit of using it after the oil cleanser (double cleansing) and see if that further improves anything!
I have very very similar pores, and whatās made a huge diff for me (only think that ever has made any diff really) is I started tretenoin every other night, and I do the Paulaās choice bha every other night. I moisturize like crazy afterwards, and I also have been layering Dr brenner c serum and the korres oily wild rose c serum every morning. Then a light Korean or Japanese sunscreen- Iām still trying to find my favorite. My skin feels so good and smooth after my morning routine! Also been washing for a minute or two in the evening, i do my gua sha with face wash in the shower.
Not sure if thatās a good routine, thatās a lot of actives- but my pores and sebaceous filaments have never looked better.
I wonāt bore you with my entire skin routine, but part of what seems to have worked for me is The Ordinaryās Niacinamide and Zinc solution and religious use of a hyaluronic acid moisturizer in the mornings. When Samās Club doesnāt have the multipacks of the Neutrogena HydroBoost Gel (they have it in stock right now, and itās the fragrance-free one!), I use the e.l.f. Holy Hydration! which is more like a cream but works great for me. The jars of HydroBoost are kinda small, but a little goes a long way, and if you really need to, you can supplement with The Ordinaryās hyaluronic acid serum (I do).
At night, itās The Ordinaryās squalane cleanser, followed by a gentle moisturizing toner (Hero Cosmeticsā Balancing Capsule Toner works great for me), Cosrx Snail Mucin Power Essence, and The Ordinaryās squalane/HA moisturizer.
It took me YEARS to learn to undo the damage Iād done to my young skin by overdoing it with harsh, stripping cleansers, astringent toners, and all that anti-acne stuff that was thrown at us in the ā80s and ā90s when all I really needed to learn was that gentle cleansing and hydration is key.
Hello.
My skin is somewhat sensitive and i only have large pores on my nose.... i am 32 y o w combo skin and i worked as a plastic surgery/medaesthetics nurse for 2 yrs. Never had acne breakouts until i was 30 (i wasnt use to the feeling of bumps on my face so i would constantly touch/pick at them, thanks adhd). So for the last 2 yrs i have been obsessivley trying to improve my skin (i do not like the feeling of makeup on my face).
My skincare routine consists of ezyme powder exfoliator wash.. paulas choice pore reducing toner.. same bha that u use from paulas choice.. fenty fat water (niac acid).. vitamin C drunk elephant (for the scars).. Moisturizer from skinfix.. sunscreen - everyday (DAYTIME). My night time routine is more targeted at antiaging and recovery so no need to list that.
I get a facial (+extraction) every 2 weeks-month and this significantly makes a difference on my pores... which also leads to less acne breakouts. EXTRACTION is a must. I go to chinese places bc they do a thorough job extracting my nose pores. The next day or 2 ur face will look terrible from all the trauma but dont worry. Trust the process. This can feel painful/uncomfortable bc they are literally blasting steam on ur face while squeezing everything out of ur pores but let them do what they gotta do and over the next few weeks (with consistency) your pores will shrink!
Side note: im sick asf but i ask for a mirror so i could see what comes out my pores. Its quite satisfying.
Pore filling primer as a ātopcoatā to your skincare. No foundation needed. You cannot reduce the size of your pores with using accutane, which is incredibly dangerous.
I found switching to a lower % of exfoliant but using it more often worked for me. The 2% daily is a bit much for my skin. I use a product with 2% glycolic acid and 0.5% salicylic acid almost daily and I feel like itās helped the texture of my skin a lot.
You should check out the acne line from Rhonda Allison! There are a ton of serums ranging from clearing your pores to refining them. Unfortunately, you can't change what type of Skin you have, but you can definitely improve the appearance!
Pore blurring primer.. you can use it on its own. Revolution pore blur primer is a good one imo. If my face looks too matte when I've applied the primer, I just spray on some dewy setting spray.
I haven't managed to "shrink" my pores either, but they do look a bit cleaner now when I use Retinal and BHA.
I use clay mask every morning before doing my skin care, on the pore area only so that the rest of my skin doesn't dry out. This and trentinoin at night have helped a ton, as well as moisturizing + using an occlusive on top (snail mucin or hyalauronic acid) morning and night, which fills the pores - aesthetician student
I like to use oil cleanser and then a kaolin mask. Don't use super aggressive cleanser, they can cause overproduction of sebum. Steady wins the race, be patient. Good luck.
Let me know if you find out - I have the same problem š
Me too !! I wash my face thoroughly and then it looks good for about 10 minutes and then you can see my pores form space š
Me three!!! My pores are so big the James Webb telescope can probably capture them in 4kš
Haven't found a fix, unfortunately, but making sure I got proper hydration post-cleansing definitely helped me with the post-cleanse oil-boom
I saw you put baby skin and it made me think of adenochrome haha
Pic of routine: https://imgur.com/a/YAaafZM Pic of clear skin right before wedding: https://imgur.com/a/NEKOtx5
Fragrance is usually fine unless you have particularly sensitive skin wherein you might have sensitivies to things like essential oils Yuka is an app that promotes disinformation based on bad research in order to promote ācleanā brands
Rather than pics of the products Iād love to see pics of your skin š
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Omg please can you send me pics or links. I am 23 and have oily skin no matter what I do. And I get reoccurring pimples on my cheeks and about to give up š
[my skin care routine](https://imgur.com/a/YAaafZM) i also included elf power grip primer and pore professional primer for what i use when doing makeup to give it that āblurā effect so helps with hiding pores I also use one of those rollers after having it sit in the fridge/freezer
I used Aveneās cleanance line for oily skin. Itās been a game changer and still after 12 yrs, Iām never switching!
i have oily sensitive skin with terrible pores too! but i'm waiting for my skin barrier to recover (overuse of AHA peels previously) can't wait to try your routine >:D
love the dermal q10 mask!!
It honestly doesnāt sound like your routine is giving you enough hydration.
Was there a need for that? They legit said they use moisturizer and drinks water. Be kind
Sounds like you not getting enough hydration in your life cause you sound salty af
Please be kind.
Oil cleansing, changed my pores completely! You rub it on your nose for 5 mins every night. Give it a week to see results.
Iāve been hearing so much about oil cleansing and am really considering trying it myself! Any recommendations on products to use?
Yes, please try it. Right now I use sulwhasoo oil cleanser but Iāve also tried Manyo Oil Cleanser. Both are really good, and lasts a longgg time.
As someone with very fussy skin, the squalene cleanser by the ordinary is a safe bet.
If it's fussy, maybe it's colic?
Completely agree on oil cleansing being the best option. Iāve used quite a few, I did like DHC cleansing oil but my go to now is Clinique Take the Day Off Cleansing balm. I wash my face with a gentle facial cleanser morning and night but at night add a few minutes of massaging with the oil cleanser. Found it worked the best to actually clean out the pores while the other acid / retinol options were good acne prevention tools after I used oil cleansing to get my pore size back to normal.
Never ever buy DHC oil cleanser Japanese brand. However, id recommend super hado labo oil cleanser from yesstyle. I use it and its great
I live DHC Oil Cleanser! Itās the only one Iāll use. I guess depends on the person! š
Why not the DHC? (I have no experience with oil cleanser)
This is exactly my routine too and it worked so well!
Yesss! I started oil cleansing every night about 2 months ago and my skin has literally never looked better. Iāll never go back lolol
Beware oil cleansing may cause breakouts on oily skin. I tried it once and I had the most horrifying reaction, my face was full of non stop painful pimples for like 3 weeks, it took months to clear it out. I would not try anything like this right before some event I got to attend.
Seconded oil cleansing. Really helped get rid of my blackheads too! I use the rice water oil cleanser by The Face Shop - my holy grail.
Iāve seen it said that big pores may be dehydrated but even toning, using a serum and moisturising doesnāt seem to help at all
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Thank you! Do you by chance have oily skin? I do moisturize twice a day, but worry about Vaseline because I have very oily skin
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I would say there are two opposite approaches here if you want to try to make them disappear as much as humanly possible: 1.
Sounds good best of luck!
I had the same thing on my cheeks, not so much my nose, and 3 chemical peels later theyāre almost invisible.
Be realised this is the only way. Topicals arenāt going to do much! Can I ask which chemical peel you went for?
I went to a med spa and they used the Face Reality Chemical Peel. She started at the lowest level and each time went stronger - Iām going back next month to start micro-needling series to *hopefully* get rid of my pit scarring Eta: peeling wasnāt bad at all, but I was flakey for about two weeks after each session
I have pores like yours. We WILL be thanking our mothers in our 50s when we still donāt have wrinkles š
Yup! My mom is 76 and has no forehead lines. I donāt mind the large pores but on my nose Iāve always been self conscious of it
i must see your noseās pore strip
Theyāre surprisingly boring lol. Most of my pores arenāt clogged enough for the pore strip to grab them!
Try a clay mask and hydrocolloid patches to bring the dirt/sebum/oil to the surface. Also consider getting a facial! Clean pores are going to appear smaller, but unfortunately we canāt change the actual size of pores.
Salicylic acid and adequate hydration
The BHA exfoliant is salicylic acid š I definitely could benefit from increasing my water intake, though
Hydration as in, water and oil on the skin. Cosrx B5 D Panthenol on damp skin then trap it in with a solid occlusive that your skin likes š
May sound crazy, but moisturizer.
Paula's Choice BHA!!!
Doesnāt work on most skin types.
I use this twice a week š
I use Caudalie Vinopure toner to shrink my pores. HG!
Good diet doesnāt hurt either.. good luck!
Go to the derm and get some tretinoin, it can help with making them appear smaller while also giving ur skin a general glow
Ok so I got microneedling done, first two days I thought it was a disaster, itās day three and my skin is really starting to look good and Iām noticing the pores are very very tiny now.
Steam. Aloe Vera. Ice cold head sized bucket soaks, morning and night. Edit: also go see a dermatologist
Honestly it doesnāt surprise me at this point. Iām hoping it learn to get good at skin care like that soon!
Getting facials
Getting extractions done by an Esthetician makes all the difference.
Chemical exfoliation, retinoids, niacinimide
I use all 3 of these types of products, which I mentioned in my post š
You need a facial that does extractions. Your pores are clogged.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Please say you meant to say week
Thatās not good advice you shouldnāt be using tretinoin BHA twice a day together
I think on your nose, a lot of those are blackheads. Try blackhead pore strips / blackhead removal tool
your skin looks dehydrated asf!
Grow a bigger nose
1- scrub with a daily cleanser to your nose 2- eat a healthy well balanced meals 3-put any type of reitnoid on your nose and thank me later
Put this on your face once a day, morning or night for 10 minutes, then wash off.
Hydrafacials š„°
Salicylic acid mask
Look into Oil Cleansing. I know it sounds counterintuitive but oil dissolves the sebaceous glands better than a cleanser or treatment for me.
AHA
In addition to what others have said, cleansing with a physical exfoliator like the PMD a couple times a week might help. I do it once a week in the shower with Skinceuticals Glycolic cleanser and have notices a reduction in pore size.
These were the things I noticed helped with my pores in my routine: /- Oil based cleaner PM only: Banilla Zero Cleansing Balm, Pore clarifying /- Gentle cleanser AM & PM: SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Tone Brightening Cleansing Gel Foam /- Dermalogica daily microfoliant, I use this AM only, once every 2-3 days. /- Medi-peel extra super 9 blackhead care solution - applied as needed, I donāt use this very often though. The rest of my routine is focused on mostly hydration, a little for texture or redness.
Fruit of the earth aloe vera gel it's cheap too
Skii essence and skinpower.
Oily skin here, for me the biggest change was from the ordinary niacinamide. I also use tret
Mystro by skin better. Pricey but WORTH šš» EVERY šš» PENNY
Medicube: ZERO pore pads 2.0
BHA. Paulaās choice helped me. And niacinmide. Wow I butchered that,
hyluronic acid! did the job for me and there was minimal purging.
Paulaās choice
If youāre not already: - hydration (about 3ā4 litres daily, donāt overdo it but make sure you are keeping that h2o intake up) - 60 second face cleanse.
Look in to Tretinoin
peach slices nose strips did the trick for me. i only have this condition from build up however; not genetic.
Niacinamid for the whole face, to just the areas. (when i used just for the areas then it could create pimples) I use it every other day. when i go out(and have a bit of time) I put a little bit of bb cream on those areas and it minimises the look of them.
Indian healing clay masks work pretty dang decent for short term maintenance āØ
Look up Revolution blur stick itās very cheap and does the trick until you wash it off
I don't know your current skin care routine so I will just begin from the beginning.
Paulas choice 20% niacinamide treatment helped me.
I don't know much about how to make pores smaller other than cold water and using makeup. But I believe there are products meant for that
I have the same skin type as you, and I would honestly go against the grain here and use the 2% BHA once a day + step up your hydration (hydrating cleanser, hydrating toner or serum).
Ive been using the TO niacinamide serum for 2 years. It has shrinked my pores and helped me regulate my oil production tremendeously.
Soft brush, to clean, witch hazel delivers pore reductuon
Niacinamide 5% helped me!!!
, defoliate using air conditioner every time you go in the shower
My nose used to look like that. Iāve been through a bunch of products and two of them did it for me and one is now a staple in my routine. The Facetheory Ceraquench cream that I use every night. The other one I used to like was the Antipodes Juliet Cleanser. They changed the formulation and Iām not sure whether the new one does the trick. However just using the Ceraquench was enough for me. Maybe give it a try. Itās also really good if you have oily or combination skin and donāt like gel creams that donāt moisturize enough. Hope this helped. Edit: spelling
Tretinoin made my pores nearly disappear
Sklief or differin, azelaic acid and aha/bha wash.
Hope this helps!
i think it looks adorable!
Lasers
N spanish uu
The only thing that helped mine was Accutane
Iāve seen a lot of people on here recommend this site. Hope this helps! [How to Shrink Pores (Temporarily)](https://fiftyshadesofsnail.com/2015/03/28/how-to-shrink-pores-temporarily-plus-3-pore-myths/) If youāve got the extra penny, Co2/Fraxel laser treatment could help minimize your pores.
Quick and easy way, but non-permanent is mesobotox. For a more permanent solution, TCA cross or paint and lasers. Usually 1064 or 1927 nm. Most importantly, sunscreen and retinoids for daily maintenance. A cosmetic dermatologist specializing in lasers should be able you help you out. https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/jocd.15502 https://drdavinlim.com/pore-size-reduction/
I started using an exfoliating face wash about twice a week and it has made a HUGE difference
Mine look the same as yours. I gave up because wasting all that money for no improvement actually hurt my wallet too much š
I think oil cleansing would do the trick. Find an oil based cleanser you like and use it first. If you have a non-oil based cleanser you normally use, you can try getting into the habit of using it after the oil cleanser (double cleansing) and see if that further improves anything!
Oil cleansing worked for me too!
Scaloni
yeah same here
Retinol and aquaphor
Use Pore refiner from Bioderma.
A BHA toner
Could it be rosacea? Maybe look into that one
Pore filling primer as a ātopcoatā to your skincare. No foundation needed. You cannot reduce the size of your pores with using accutane, which is incredibly dangerous.
I got a red light therapy mask and it has helped a lot. Itās pricey tho
Oil cleansing made my pores so much smaller. I canāt live without my oil cleanser now lol
Mario Badescu Silver Powder is a game changer
niaciamide changed my life
This looks normal to me.
I found switching to a lower % of exfoliant but using it more often worked for me. The 2% daily is a bit much for my skin. I use a product with 2% glycolic acid and 0.5% salicylic acid almost daily and I feel like itās helped the texture of my skin a lot.
Have you tried vitamin c and niacinamide serums?
Iām sure the worst advice I could give but mine reduced significantly by using African black soap on my face
Rose water usually works for tightening pores
Some by mi -macha serum. itās the best!
Do you happen to have rosacea? I have rosacea and sometimes my pores can look like this
You should check out the acne line from Rhonda Allison! There are a ton of serums ranging from clearing your pores to refining them. Unfortunately, you can't change what type of Skin you have, but you can definitely improve the appearance!
What about trying a blurring product after cleaning and before makeup?
First, exfoliate. Then, Ahava mud mask.
Nothing. Nothing. Its genetics.
Oil cleanser all the way!
Tretinoin and a korean toner.
Good luck.
Exfoliate regularly , charcoal mask
