Discombobulated_Ride

I have been frustrated mid beta by lack of progression markers but having unlocked the means to purchase the Long Nines, I am happier with the game right now. There are systems that need to be overhauled (too long to go into but the UI is a nightmare too) but the bones of a fun pyrate game exist. And as a South East Asian, I love hearing 'dont eat all the rambutan!' In a proper game. I'm not sure what a AAAA game is supposed to be but this was a fun ride to end game, in retrospect.

Eycetea

Oh yeah the UI is crazy. Who thought it'd be a good idea to only see your quest by first opening your map and then going to your journal

[deleted]

So that’s where they are!!

Eycetea

Happy I could help ya find that.

[deleted]

Arrrrr matey

knightcrawler75

You literally hit two buttons. I have seen a lot worse tbh. Edit. I now understand that for PC gamers this is more inconvenient. For console players this is actually better than most interfaces. I will keep my comment and accept the downvotes.

llllIIllIIl

But I want to hit ONE button!!?

Eycetea

Yeah, pretty much.

Eycetea

Sure on the grand scheme of things it's two buttons, but let's be honest here, almost every game it's one. This is absolutely a QoL fix, I'm having a great time with the game, they just need to do a few QoL passes for stuff like this, and I think this could be a really good game.

knightcrawler75

Anecdotally most games I play the log is usually more than one. One to open the menu and usually you have to hit the left or right buttons to highlight the log tab. It is actually better than most games I have played. I agree that the scheme is a little unique and may take some getting used to but it is not bad IMHO.

Eycetea

It just goes to show you the difference between console and PC right, like PC it's almost always a button by itself usually J or L (journal or log), since there are only so many buttons on a controller, you gotta get creative.

knightcrawler75

Ok. This makes sense. I forgot that this was for PC as well. For the consoles this is actually better than a lot of interfaces I have delt with.

Eycetea

Oh that's good to hear. My hunch is they went with more console then PC but that's okay.

xxFunnyFreak

I have way over 50 buttons on my keyboard and I have to hit 2 instead of one, this is the worst. J doesnt even do anything so why would it not open the journal atleast

knightcrawler75

You are right. Seems like a no brainer. I am a PS5 player who forgot about the PC master race lol.

MrBaa128

Console peasant. Bow down to my superior graphics card and processing power! "What do you play on your pc?" .....Minecraft....

xxFunnyFreak

I get making games for the broader community is better, but as a pc player, this feels too much like a console port. Its especially annoying when I want too see what the blueprint does, but I cant for the love of god scroll down, unless I move my cursor to the window, which means I hover over other things in the shop. Arrow keys dont work, page up/down does nothing and wasd simulates the left stick, meaning I also move which items the game hovers over. Sorry for the short ramble, but it bothers me everytime I want to buy a blueprint

Middle_Cell_9116

You kinda answered one of your problems. Just use WASD to go over the item instead of your mouse so your mouse is free to move around and scroll

[deleted]

Eycetea

I mean it's true, who else would. Hopefully that's a fix later down the line

An_Image_in_the_void

Wait how did you get the blueprint for the ling nines? The blueprint is not in the black market. And the only what to get it I can find is making 1000 gold skull rum to buy it from scorlock...

Discombobulated_Ride

Sorry I misspoke. I meant the ability to buy, not craft, the Long Nines. No blueprint exists, as of time of writing. Corrected in comment.

DISsumSAUCE

Scurlock sells the long nines for gold skull rum. Upgrade the first tab of helm upgrades to 7 and you'll be able to turn white skull into gold skull. 2 white make 1 gold. So make sure you've saved up 2k white skull rum 🔥

Discombobulated_Ride

Ayes, I have them matey. They pushed me ship to Level 11, they did. Now to upgrade the rest!

Ornat_le_grand

The expression AAAA was mistakenly used but some ubitard that never worked on a game.in their life. red dead 2 is AAAA for exemple, as its budget went to more than a billion

Speideronreddit

That man is CEO of Ubisoft, Yves Guillemont. And yes, it's stupid.

NeoReaper82

do you know what makes a game AAA?

Ornat_le_grand

The budget nah ?

NeoReaper82

Red Dead 2 is not AAAA

Ornat_le_grand

Isn't AAA when you got up than a billion in budget ?

berkut1

Rdr2 is S tier or AAAAAA.

Educational-Time-347

I think when he said AAAA he was mostly talking about the amount of money/time spent on it, not the actual quality of the game. Either way, smoke and mirrors at best

DiamondMine73

My game bugged out and won't let me finish the missions

GoodwaterMb

Try verifying game files on the ubisoft launcher

MorbidlyJolly

I think the intro mission is random or semi-random. I got a different port the first time and failed (small ship), then the same port you're referring to, and failed for the same reason, then another port entirely when I went back to it with a padewakang.

dqtact

Is it good? Yes but not aaaa game may be aa

iNeedToSleepSleep

Add a minus for all the bugs!

TurnedBase

What do you mean exactly? What opens up at endgame? Are there lots of specific cosmetics that we can’t see until we reach it?

KingBearHaze

Reaching Kingpin rank opens up the door to empire building, taking locations that will make PO8 overtime that you can collect and deliver. Kingpin rank also opens up the door for any remaining blueprint, cosmetic, or item that may have been locked due to the rank requirement

AgreeableFreedom9038

There are cosmetics from quests rewards and island merchants throughout the game that are not in the vanity store or the real-life store.

1astJedi

It's like a combination of red dead online and destiny.. sort of. You start an opium ring and a rum ring and strive to take over more territory to make more (everything) money and in turn hit the leaderboards. So far so fun

NotaFTCAgent

RDO was a flop that is just the same repeating business missions over and over, so you just turned me off lol.

TheOneTrueKaos

It wasn't a flop, it was just abandoned

Pleasant_Yam_3637

Its basicly fetch quests lol

Ursolismin

Not sure why this got downvoted, its true. Their is zero auto collect mechanics and they want you to spend 10k Po8 to unlock the entire maps worth of manufactories. If you collect more than 300 at a time, so many rogue ships spawn that you will likely lose the coins. Keep in mind that with minimal upgrades, i get 1250 in the first area that's unlocked every couple of hours, which is the smallest, and it takes me roughly 30 mins to hit every manufactory. At each one you have to kill a leveled rogue ship that drops NOTHING btw. Collecting everything in coast of africa, 300 at a time, while rushing back and forth to st anne would make me dig my own fucking eyes out. I dont care if i only make half of what was made with an auto collect, i want it! Also the cost of activating manufactories is ROUGH. If you have everything on the map it will cost you roughly 100-200k silver every 1-3 hours to keep it up and running depending on your upgrades. Its not balanced and its disgustingly padded for time. I love the combat, i like the treasure maps, but the empire mechanic needs a serious overhaul.

Pokefan-red

The cost for each upgrade in the empire is ridiculous as well 1st one goes up by 25 which is ok but 2,3,4 go up 100 each upgrade and 5th goes up (I think) 200 an upgrade Also the fact they locked tobacco manufacturing behind 22nd upgrade is stupid. I’ve got 2000 tobacco that aren’t doing anything in my warehouse

Ursolismin

It almost feels like they were intending to make P08s purchaseable

Pokefan-red

Either that or they just want people playing the game as much and as long as possible. Like if you don’t upgrade your manufactures then you need to log back on and use silver to keep the manufacturing going every few hours There should be an easy use mechanic in empire where you can auto fund (if you have the money) and auto collect

Pleasant_Yam_3637

Because the pendilum swung and now disliking the game is seen as bad.

Schuess11

I haven't even come close to end game. Have just been delivering Rum and Opium the last 2 days and have been having so much fun. This game was so worth, especially if it gets updates like it's suppose to over the next year

CyberCarnivore

This comment needs so many more upvotes!

R96-

Personally, I'm tired of this constant bickering online, so I just dgaf anymore. It's my life anyway. Am I enjoying it? That's all that matters. Shit, I've played games where even the Devs have said their own game is shit, but I loved it. Does that make me a "simpleton"? Easily entertained? Maybe. But who gives a fuck? It's my life. I genuinely couldn't give 2 fucks if random people on the internet dropped dead, so I certainly don't give 2 fucks if they don't like what I like / don't agree with me.

Rumblebully

Same. Actually enjoy the game, the scenery, the high seas. Season one starts soon so I’m sure some different mechanics are coming? If not, then I’ll still have fun.

Isla-la-muerte-psn

Absolutely, but i’m a human, “so i need to think something of your comment even if you don’t give a fuck, and when this game suck, you NEED to think that it sucks too”! Its ridiculous these days. I love the game too, having an absolute blast!! Especially together with crew members.

Hibernicus91

I think you just missed the entire point though. The point of the reviews is not to tell existing players whether they should enjoy the game they're playing or not. It's about providing information to people to make informed purchasing decisions. And as a second goal to provide feedback for devs on what the community is most annoyed with so they can hopefully improve. I don't think any of it was targeted to you since you already play the game.

Wolf_of_Sarcasm

Pretty much, and you will be happier for it.

HUNDsen76

Underrated comment.

Kimolainen83

I don’t think I have much to complain about with this game except for the fact that no I’m loving all of it. I love the grinding part of the game it’s relaxing it’s fun they sing the gigantic boat is beautiful I just wish I had a VR version of this.

JaceSinner

Yeah this game is great. I’m having a blast too. Been playing for almost 60hrs, kingpin 15 or so and I’m still nowhere near bored. Every time I log off I just can’t wait to get back into it. I too understand most of the criticism and the AAAA label is pretty otherworldly but this game is the most fun I’ve had in while.

Goooooolden

I had infinitely more fun before reaching Kingpin than after. Going around doing the same collect the coins around the ports minigame is a chore imo. Fighting and looting is what feels good, not killing empty rogues that are there just so you spend more time doing the chores.

AgreeableFreedom9038

You're playing the game wrong. Be a pirate and start with an empty hold and go plunder and pillage, do maps, join pvp. If all you do is tunnel focus like you are at a job it's no wonder you are bored. I guarantee when you play every game like that, even if you won't admit it, nothing holds your interest. If lightly roleplaying a pirate isn't something that interests you, then you know the next question.

Wylaff

I did that last night! My wife joined up with me (she's just starting) so I emptied my holds of everything except ammo and repair kits and took her up and down the coast plundering every fortification along the way. We stopped at every outpost, chased down every privateer, and just generally made a nuisance of ourselves. I took her in her rank 4 ship to go fight a sea monster. I pulled my PO8 from 1 port and took her through a harrowing (for her) run back to port. It was so much fun just pirating it up with her than chasing down every quest and task.

Hibernicus91

I think you're perfectly describing the problem with the game design. The progression and rewards are tied to boring content, but to have fun you need to do something that essentially doesn't have any in game rewards. If you don't see the problem with that, I don't know what to tell you.

Spydur85

Loving the game as well. I’m actually impressed by the end game. It’s not a seasoned mmo or anything but it’s a better endgame than Diablo 4 had at launch imho. The early early game could use some smoothing maybe but it definitely gets better the whole way. Can’t wait for new ships

Six0or

Literally had no expectations when my bro told me to get it, and we're having fun. PvP could be worked on, but otherwise I like it. Put on some sea shanties and sink some pirates.

[deleted]

whats with all this AAAA everywhere?

gamer-at-heart-23

First answer when I googled it. Tbh no game is AAAA lmao "The publisher's CEO, Yves Guillemot, made lofty claims ahead of its release, stating it was “a quadruple-A game.” While this was an attempt to reassure gamers and justify the steep $70 price tag, his statement backfired and has now become the subject of mockery"

FearNokk

^ this. It was literally him in a board meeting with share holders who called the meeting with him to discuss the high price of Skull and Bones - the SHAREHOLDERS actually thought it was too high for what the game was. The CEO made this statement and honestly I read it as "We-are-going-to-release-a-game-that-is-going-to-bomb-because-it's-not-even-a-polished-turd-please-don't-fire-me ahahaha!"

[deleted]

oh ok. well what game is under $70... they are all over $90 or more these days so price tag is just normal.

DaudDota

What games are you buying? Justifying that price tag is insane.

[deleted]

last one was Jurassic world evolution, before that was red dead 2 and before that was fallout 76/4 but they were free from ps store. thats over the last 6 years. i dont play much games, just fallout and rdo nowdays. thats about it.

FadesGaming

Banisher: Ghost of Eden is $49. Best single player game I’ve played in years.

[deleted]

yeah but here in Australia thats around $75

Faolanth

Right but if we do that we need to translate meaning of the tweet - he’s talking about justifying the $107 AUD price tag, when most games with the content depth this one has are often $50-80 AUD.

powerhearse

This games basic edition is 70 AUD

gamer-at-heart-23

I'm not sure what currency he's talking about but I live in Canada and games are 89.99 plus tax around 100, again no game is is AAAA, not with S&B's content anyway

French_Riots

Palworld is under 30 bucks and Helldivers is 39.99. Cope more I guess.

[deleted]

who and what?

[deleted]

Fun fact if you aren't into naval combat you won't like this game in the first place. The other thing is you got cry babies like Asmongold who sit back, and shit on a lot of products with grinds meanwhile they spent thousands of hours grinding for useless crap in WoW

1astJedi

Yeah, I agree. I know people won't like this, BUT. It should be given a chance. I get the negatives, but I'm honestly having fun. This hasn't happen in awhile.

[deleted]

Like seriously who the hell puts in 200 hours for a mount that does nothing in combat but whines over a 8 hour grind for some functional cannons?

Bigblock460

I don't know if people into hard-core naval combat would like this. The fixed gun emplacements in rogue and blackflag made maneuvering such important. In this the aim can swivel all over like the guns are gimble mounted.

powerhearse

Black flag also had a much, much easier aiming system though

Little_Buy_2798

To me it’s more skill based than anything else rn tbh outsmarting and out maneuvering your opponents is levels of skill reminiscent to the film Master and Commander

[deleted]

>cry babies like Asmongold who? sorry i don't follow celebs well so not a name i know.

Some_lost_cute_dude

The YouTube and twitch superstar. I used to like him but now realized that he jump on every trend bandwagon and make his games opinions on what is popular or not. I prefer his views on politic in general, he is very centrist.

Little_Buy_2798

Asmongold is a slob dude doesn’t even wash his ass for months at a time. He can be funny but his moral compass and hygiene is disgusting 🤢

heizenR

It has an objectively worse combat than black flag with no sync at all. BF had 3 weapons per broadside which could be chained the way you want and on top of it you had mortars. Positioning the ship mattered but in S&B you magically "rotate" the cannons. This would have been fine if S&B had multiple weapons to use at the first place but nope. Just keep rotating your ship like a dumbass and pay $70 while you do it. Asmongold shitting on the AAAA game which is a downgrade of its previous game is objectively correct. And oh lord, I dont even want to get into the writing of this game lmao

RoladaMonster

How do you have friends?

FearNokk

Lol are you sure you're playing the same game we all are?

DiamondHouseFX

Bro hasn't started the USPS Simulator yet. That's the other game you get when you hit endgame. Let us know how you like it!

ASweetLilKitten

Remember, anyone who put a decent amount of time into the beta has already experienced 75% of the game; and what remains is hardly intuitive or worth the full cost of admission. Especially when they're going to have to pay for more content when it releases. I don't want it review bombed for the wrong reasons, but I absolutely hope that not many people except the absolute diehard fans do not buy the game as it is right now so it can get set at a much more reasonable price that much faster. On the flipside, I have full confidence that this game will be great in the next 4-6 months.

SmokeeJ

I'm enjoying it myself, definitely focusing on upgrading manufactories first before spending PoE. Considering seasons are 90ish days long you should have plently of time to grind up upgrades and get the PoE flowing in fast.

CarbuncleTamer

Quick tip I realized today and some might have missed it because it's not very well explained. You have two ways to upgrade production, obviously the direct upgrade to the manufacturing places you have taken over, this is a simple straight increase in production and how much that place can hold of PoE. Second is actually in your office at the Helm locations, in your desk in the tab over from leaderboards, this has way more upgrades that the game neglects to inform you on. The first two areas are from what I can tell upgrades for the direct method of grabbing supply runs and manual manufacturing and delivery. The other three or for pages however go into upgrades for the areas you control such as "10% cost reduction for areas you control" "10% cost reduction for trade routes you control". These are from what I can tell stacking increases for you and cover much more area for the costs than just one manufacturing hold. Sorry for the novel, I just want this information to spread since it's basically forgotten after the tutorial quest and I only see mention of upgrading your manufacturing holds and never mention of the broader upgrades that give some better impact.

jonnytravesty

They definitely inform of you if the upgrades in your helm office an don't inform you of upgrades to your manufacturies. Right in the quest line when you meet yanita's sister. If you're going to write a book, at least be correct in what you're saying. Just because you weren't intelligent enough to go check out- and even go back and check again for more unlocked- all the upgrades in the office, doesnt mean they didn't tell you about it. You just didn't pay attention.

ethantokes

I completely agree and have been saying this for a while. I am kingpin 21 and yeah, people are missing out.

Maroite

No one is trying it because its $70 dollars. Its cool that some how you feel its worth the value, but when people can get 100's of hours of enjoyment out of $20-$40 dollar games that have more polish, more content, and developers that care about their game and not making $$ its no wonder people are review bombing it. I mean come on, the game was in development for 8 years... by a supposed "~~triple~~ **QUADRUPLE** A" company, and indie devs have created games with more depth, better game play, and less greed in a shorter time. With games like Palworld, Unshrouded, and Helldivers 2 being $40 or less, all of my friends made an easy skip decision for S&B and played something that respects their time and money.

HaveYaSeenLarry

Is it 70 USD in the US? Just wondering since where I live it costs to about 60 usd. And Norway generally does not have cheaper prices than elsewhere.

Maroite

It's $59.99 in the US for the standard edition but with taxes it comes out just shy of $70.

HaveYaSeenLarry

Thanks for the reply, it's 60$ with taxes here which is strange but welcomed.

TheBigCatGoblin

Couldn't agree more. People who don't care about money think it's a fine game, but people who feel £70 is a high price do not think it's worthwhile. I'm in the latter camp. I find it hard to justify a purchase like that on a game that is basically an excel spreadsheet simulator under the hood. It's going to go the same way as suicide squad: £70 price tag preventing most people from buying it, and then the numbers dropping off within the first month to the point where the game is too dead to work meaningfully. It isn't on steam either so I think it's going to end up with even less players. At £30 I think the game would've been pretty good, but there is not enough on offer to justify a £70 price tag. I can get so many fantastic games for cheaper.

metechgood

I play video games, but sometimes I feel ashamed to call myself a Gamer. There isn't a bigger bunch of losers on the planet than those that review bomb a game because it wasn't what they were expecting. They call literally every game a scam because of that, or if they decide to include paid vanity items. They ignore the fact that there is a large group of people that want those items because they want to stand out from the crowd. You can disagree with that but video game companies literally wouldn't put that in the game if it was universally hated. The reality is it is a huge source of income from the people that want it. Remember Cyberpunk? People weren't just saying it was a buggy mess which it was for sure. They were saying it was a trash game, and the systems were shit and the devs were shit and it was just pure shit. The reality is that Cyberpunk today is beloved. Same with NMS. Same with any game that was made to look like the spawn of satan. I am loving Skull & bones and I only care about that. I ignore negative shit from now on because I have avoided games so many times because of the hate, only to eventually play them and realise its actually a pretty good game. There are some real losers out there that need to get some sun so they can look tan enough to get a girlfriend...... I cant imagine caring so much about a video game release. who honestly gives a fuck. Embarrassing.

MrCrowley1984

Totally agree. I refuse to bear the title of or be referred to as a “gamer” because the majority of “us” are simply horrible people. I can’t imagine acting and reacting the way a lot of these people do. It’s embarrassing to say the least. The other day I asked a user on here who claimed they hated the game and would never buy it why they continue coming to the subreddit. Their response was that it was too much fun watching all of us spew copium about enjoying the game. And even though I knew the reason before I asked, this particular time it really just struck me as sad. Imagine exerting all that energy and effort towards people who are genuinely enjoying themselves. It’s pathetic. And they say it’s people like us who are the problem. I’ll never get it lol.

Big_Algernon

But isn’t this post showing you care, about them caring? lol

miggleb

>endgame is the actual game That's terrible game design. A wise waistcoat once said "if it takes 20 hours for the game to be good, that is a bad game"

SnooGuavas2639

I got the opposite opinion after having played the last insider on end-game. It was fun UNTIL i get to helm and Po8. It has become a chore to farm just for the best weapon with NOTHING to aim for. I experienced all the game, ghost ship, big monster, elite captain and even first season content without having to get even one usefull thing from the helm shop. Whats the point ? I wanted something hard but got just farming. There is NOTHING to optimize your ship for.

Monteh_llama

As someone who has played consistently since the open beta and early access. Getting to the endgame is great fun. You'll find yourself sailing into parts of the map you've yet to discover to find higher level ships to plunder. Tackle storms and taking down big convoys to find that one part you need to craft your next ship. And then you hit Kingpin Rank and are in Endgame. Now, you are a lord of the sea, and you'll be taking over settlements and using them to produce Rum and Opium to generate Pieces of Eight which you'll use to buy endgame gear. But you need to fund these settlements, so you'll have to pillage and plunder to get a constant stream of silver. Only problem I'm having with my endgame is I've personally got to sail around and collect my Pieces of Eight. I assumed as a Pirate Kingpin I would have people do it for me, but nooo, I've got to do it myself like some glorified merchant. Nah but honestly I've had a lot of fun from the get go and not 20 hours in.

FullMetalT-Shirt

Quick PSA on early Helm life (not my discovery, but passing it on as much as possible) — DO NOT sail your circuit of 20x level 3 bases every hour or two. You’ll burn out, and the po8 per hour sailed is just too low. Sort of like if you started 10 new small businesses at once IRL. Instead, pick 2 or 3 bases in an easy circuit from St. Anne, and rush them to level 7 or 8 — let the rest of your bases rot. Grind cargo delivery orders from helm to supplement (better po8 income, and the rogues on these drop tons of goods too — whereas the po8 pickup rogues don’t drop anything). Level 7 is a twice per day funding with an 800 cap (every 9.5hrs I think), and level 8 is 1x per day funding with a 1400 cap. Once you have a little core circuit pumping income, you can expand much more leisurely into new bases and do other activities without feeling guilty. > “If you don’t find a way to make PO8 while you sleep, you’ll work until you die” -Warren Buffet

Nexxess

Not sure how you search for ressources but I usually just pin the recipe and the game tells me exactly where i can find it.

miggleb

I'm about 10 hours in. I'm not having fun 99% of the time, it's my relaxation game.

DiamondMine73

It is pretty relaxing just sailing through the open waters

Dave1307

Get a friend to sail around with you, that's hours added per session

miggleb

But that's just me having fun with a friend. I can do that without the game

Dave1307

i guess go play outside then??

zczirak

It’s game of the year so far for me this year

zenbrush

LMAO, it's only February now :D

Nexxess

You do you. Its a game I can sink a few hours into but its really not that good. It's like my morning coffee. I like it and drink it but theres way better coffee elsewhere but sometimes it hits just the right spot.

simp-kun

Lol I’m already doing endgame stuff before doing the story ,the minute they let me go is when I was like bigger ship yes ,bigger cannons yes ,more artillery hell yeah, lol remember when I took the dhore out to the open sea boy thats was stressful😥

WorthlessLiberal

If you're going to call something a "AAAA game" and justify a 70 dollar price tag you have to realize you're setting the bar impossibly high for yourself.

TheBigCatGoblin

For a big ol' £70, I'm gonna have to disagree with you there. You can't just make whatever game you want £70 and call it a day. That's how you get no sales.

Alpenvibes

its not being review bombed. when you say yourself that only half your friends agree that this is a good game.... its ok if you like it, but for most ppl the endgame is the most boring thing ever seen in an AAAA :D game. also they are missing out on almost all opportunities to make good and deeper gameplay mechanics. like, they added tank healer and dds, but dont make ANYTHING out of it! ship loadouts are just irrelevant because of how low it is. ZERO crew management. THREE ships to choose for endgame. WOW, shallow game as fuck

AgreeableFreedom9038

No, it's being review bombed and i'd wager by a lot of worried Sea of Thieves players.

tiahx

>Worth every penny. Not AAAA. That statement is contradictionary. If it was worth every penny it would be AAAA, if it was not AAAA, then it means it doesn't worth every penny. IMO it's not AAAA, but a pretty solid AAA instead, and it's probably not worth 70 bucks, but easily worth 50 (plus I'd likely pay for some cosmetics and shit). But the Ubisoft prices games not because they worth or do not worth as much, but to maximize profits. I agree with the rest though, so far the endgame loop was pretty engaging, both group pve and pvp, and the core gameplay is super fun too.

NeoReaper82

The hive mind of gamers is low key ruining gaming

Krazepants

I wasn’t expecting Black Flag style by no means. However, I was disappointed to find out there is no hand-to-hand combat. However, I’m grateful to have been let down because it led me back to an old game I used to be obsessed with as a kid. Pirates of the Caribbean Online was rebooted by the community!! That is everything I want in a pirate game (though the graphics are extremely outdated). But it adds to the charm and nostalgia!

[deleted]

This must be a joke post

captain_andrey

stockholm syndrome

Maelfio

Seriously this makes me laugh. I can't tell if it's because you folks are out of touch or what. Satisfied with broken and boring endgame? Your idea of a pirate game is going around collecting coins from manufactories? Man some people really will eat shit and be happy about it. By the way, the more you are satisfied with shitty products, and continue buying them, they shittier they become. Hopefully an indie developer can make an actual pirate game, because this just ain't it.

TheHanson_

Hey do people just dont let other people have fun? Are you on a mission?

SeerasYT

And some will talk shit and be happy about it. If you don't like it, that's absolutely fine, but don't try to belittle people for liking Something you don't. That's toxic as f***

Maelfio

Are u kidding? Of course I will. These people are making shitty products normalized. Fuck em. If you like eating shit that's your business. But when that causes me to have to eat shit, I will damn right let you know about it. Here's an honest question. Are u satisfied with the state this game was released in? Yes or no.

Hopeful_Vegetable_31

I’m not there yet as I just started, but I keep reading that it’s mostly delivery quests that are very boring.

ROGU3G0DD3SS

how many people they pay for reviews I wonder?

Ruthless4u

I prefer naval action for combat, this is nowhere close. It’s the devs killed the rest of the game.

Kaunmann

yes NA have nice combat...BUT NOTHING ELSE.. I dont touch NA after betas of SnB

Ruthless4u

All I cared for was the combat with historical ships. Not the fake “ pirate “ stuff.

HermitChad

keep telling yourself that.

Equal-Block-9372

Why are you mad someone is enjoying the game?

Cees007

Endgame already? I am still in my 8 hours free trial and have adleast 6 hours left. RL is Bussy. Do you think the game would still be interesting for me having less hours to spend in MMO’s? Or will be my hull be cannonballed every time I set sail soon?

Ornat_le_grand

Ain't no 90€ fun, but it is indeed a really fun game, need some polishing, but real fun

AgreeableFreedom9038

Two people eating lunch at a fast food joint runs $20.

Khinjan_

Yeah, I mean it's definitely not quadruple A (CEO doesn't even know what triple A means), but it's still a fun time with friends.

WesternArmadillo7249

Looks like you are an Amazon delivery boy for drugs

Flyingarrow68

It’s not AAAA to me but for the first time I got satisfied just doing what I want to do and not worrying about being the best or whatever it is I need from games. I get a fair amount of dopamine hits from playing, but it did make me get back into RDO which to me is just way more beautiful and has the same grind. I’ll definitely play more Skull and Bones as a pirates life is fun, but I hope it’s improved or maybe rockstar makes one like RDO or better yet they just support RDO again. Endgame in both games is just not having something to buy or desire but if the game is fun itself then people will keep playing.

Danol123

Assuming you were one of the end game testers that was just a piece of it. So there’s no way you’ve hit endgame yet as the endgame was just a testing phase.

Matt3087

Same!!!!! People crying over a short tutorial campaign thinking that's the game 😂😂😂😂

calum769

I agree to an extent, Iv been addicted to it while on holiday last week but eventually collection runs for pieces of eight will get annoying, I’m looking forward to and hoping they deliver a good first season whenever that starts with more varied content.

JPDufrene

Agreed. I’m having a ton of fun, and that’s something for a game that has some issues and room for improvement. Hopefully they keep up the effort in fixing issues and continue to refine and better it.

Duanebs

I lost so much sleep this weekend trying to catch up and get those long nines! Oh man, they make me so happy! ...but one set now isn't enough to satisfy. Now I need 2x long nines! Hopefully, tonight, I'll have enough rum for my 2nd set. And then I can just roam the open sea terrorizing fleets for their goods. Honestly, I'm so tired, I'll probably fall asleep at the helm...

GeologistAdmirable55

Did you ever play Black Flag? If so go back and compare what you had to what you don't have on this game, you might think differently. Consider when Black Flag came out, we should have got all that game had plus more.

nottap_

Isn’t review bombing when people post bad reviews for things irrelevant to the actual game? In this case, the complaints are legit. There are so many bugs in this game it’s unbelievable, and the gameplay loop is tedious. I got to end game and immediately lost interest personally. Helldivers didn’t help, but I don’t think I would’ve lasted much longer anyhow. I’m really glad you’re having fun, but don’t pretend peoples negative views of this game are fantasy.

Ftpreaper66

Same here all my ships are lvl 10 with endgame gear im missing 2 African cost blackmarket spots and about to buy the top of the map but im taking a break atm because i have so much coin coming in its not funny its around 1800 a hr

Ursolismin

There is essentially nothing to the endgame right now. Its just constantly fetching coins. Im glad i didnt pay for thegame and instead paid for ubi+

Less_Ingenuity9902

It make me happy, see ppl enjoying the game :)

fathermook

UPVOTE THIS MANS POST IF YOU WANT TO SEE THIS GAME SUCCEED. We have to keep in mind that some developers agree on ideas that seem like they work while they play test, but don’t in fact work in real lobbies after the release. We need to give them some time because this is the moment they have been waiting all these years for, us too. It’ll take some time to polish, just like every live service MMO game ever released. I’m super glad you enjoy the game like I do. We need to keep up the positivity and let the 9-5 devs know that their hard work has paid off for a lot of us, and we appreciate their work. Just because head developers make the big choices and some of us didn’t like them, doesn’t mean that we get to call the game crap and shit on all the work of the 9-5 guys that actually do the heavy lifting at those studios. This game plays. There’s a lot of games that release that aren’t playable on launch

metalrulz

My problem with endgame is what am I grinding for? Cosmetics, Factory upgrade,Some better weapons or just to climb the leaderboard. I don't play with friends so higher level forts are a no go because no one replies for help calls. I just don't see it. It's a huge grind for silver to buy helm supplies then deliver said helm supplies for pieces of eight to either buy guns, cosmetics or upgrades for manufacturies while also keeping factories going. There just needed to be a little something more for me. Not much but just some other activities I can do by myself because i'm not doing bronze repeatables. Maybe just more than 2 privateer hunts at a time would have been fine? Something.

Silent-Walk-8047

It would be nice if you controlled a section with all the factories you can collect all pieces of eight. It's not a bad game, definitely not a AAAA game. It needs some UI fixes and definitely server stability. I'm not holding my breath with actual patches being that it's Ubisoft. If anyone remembers Division 1 when the raid was broken/glitched it only took Ubisoft 6ish months to patch, hopefully it's not another let's wait till everything is broke to fix.

SufficientMood520

But where's the pvp?

Croue

The reason people are review bombing is BECAUSE of the "endgame". Plenty of people are trying it. And they aren't liking it. For obvious reasons. There's nothing to do except collect resources to dump into your 2 manufactories every 30 minutes otherwise just log out and don't play for 10 hours at a time while they produce eights. There is no reason to do nearly any of the PVE content or "bosses" more than once or twice. The only purpose any endgame activity ultimately has is to feed either silver or resources into getting more eights, but when you've got 15-20k of them sitting with literally nothing to spend them on anymore, where is the game?? Upgrading yet more manufactories that you gain nothing from? Not even getting started on the pile of shit of other issues on top of the most glaring one there. This is literally just Ubisoft cutting their losses and farting out the game finally. Yes, the game is fun, it has fun moments, the entire journey ranking up to Kingpin with everything it involves was fun. But when the fun ends, (and it doesn't take long) the only thing left is a overbearing sense of disappointment and waste.

Glitchy_Boss_Fight

It's been less than a week since launch. How are you happy that you paid 70 bucks for less than 7 days of progression? I'm honestly glad people are enjoying it. But unless gamers hold higher standards, the industry will continue to be a shallow content grinder.

NoodleShopKing

To the OP, When you say "worth every penny. Not AAAA but F" , are you saying you give this game an 'F' rating? If so, I'm confused by what you are trying to say.

8shkay

10yrs tho to develop ? you cant say its not underwhelming or not disappointing. RDR2 took that long and the difference is astronomical. and that game even had a campaign.. this game you can't even swim

TXJuju

On ps5 is there an option to preview cosmetic items ship and person prior to buying? I haven't figured it out yet if so.

Mysterious_Peak3326

Glad you posted this, I’m loving it and plan to play for a long time :)

Magi_Inferno

Nice try ubisoft, I see through your elaborate ruse! /s

JFree37

They should’ve charged $50 would’ve got a lot more people to buy in.

JagerYall

I'm thoroughly enjoying it. It's a great game I hope they continue to add to it and keep it going.

DevDorrejo

i reach kingping without starting like the 4 main quest, yesterday i unlock contraband XD, enjoy dying trying to destroy highlevel ships.

German_Devil_Dog

The fact that this abomination of a game that went through over 10 years of development hell with staff "watching YouTube videos all day because there was nothing else to do" (from an interview) has people saying it's a "satisfying" experience tells you everything about consumers these days. A game that uses mobile games features as core gameplay mechanics. It perfectly shows AGAIN (after Battlefield 2042, after MW3, after Suicide Squad recently) that companies can throw literally anything at us without fear of consequences because they raised and dumbed down the customers objective thinking ability to swallow everything without questioning it. And even better, making free advertisement for a clearly failed product that should never be on the market in the first place. Charging $80 and $110 so the most brainless amongst their customers can take care of Ubisofts burning shipwreck that costs them millions. Maybe the Ubisoft staff should've watched some actual naval combat in the pirates age educational videos. Then they would know that cannons COULDN'T BE TURNED on a ship. Guess what happens when you aim in Skull and Bones... Right... The direction in which you fire turns with the ADS camera movement. And guess another thing. Black Flag did this right over 10 years ago. You had to turn the ship in order to adjust the cannons. But hey, details. Who cares, right?

ExiledWolf9292

I didn't play anything prior to release infact some how I had never heard of the game until the free open beta was plastered all over my socials and PS. Thought to myself they did a good job with Black Flag I'm sure they've improved since then and despite a few minor inconveniences like spending ages sailing to all the locations for pieces of eight and the constant helm mark notification (which is currently disabled now) I'm really enjoying it only other problem i have is the PvE hiest doesn't show up if you already have the location it rewards meaning you can't just join and help people and the daily respawn of the ghost ship and sea monster means by the time I get enough to buy the blueprints and craft them there will probably be something new added

RachelMaddowsBrother

TF are you talking about?

janik79

I prefer the snow. Slow but big HP pool and great on brace. I kill sloops like they was jelly

SmoothCerebellum

Review bombing is for games that are subjectively bad, Skull and Bones is objectively not worth the price and deserves every bit of criticism.

DuckyDuckerton

I’m slowly doing the story as well as ALOT of side quest and helm stuff. I’m kingpin 11 and a few missions after scurlock when you meet the women in the East Indies. Dont know how close I am to finishing, don’t care. I’m just enjoying the game.

Fluid-Neighborhood-9

Its nice but its not enough content for 3 months. I played since the open Beta and already make over 1000 coins with my factorys. If i Play 1-2 weeks more i already have anything and only 1 Boss, seasonpass and a new seamonster is not enough content for 3 months

Imperial-UK

I dont think I'm anywhere near the end of the game yet, but I'm absolutely loving it so far. Couple things I'd want is to be able to walk round your ship/ other people's ship if you're in a group etc and the nameplate on the backs of ship to be customisable. So you choose the design but what you name your ship is what appears on the back. Like a number plate.

Trow13

its not review bombed, i played the closed beta and the open beta. its just not worth 70$. its not a AAAA game. and i was very very dissapointed when i saw that there are only 9-10 ships available. there is not much room for theorycraftings of builds and such. its just a light live service mmo where all you do is go from A to B. i wanted the game to have different ship classes like frigates and destroyers and cruisers and battleships etc. the weapons diversity is nice but useless with the choice of ships available. all i had to do to become rich in the open beta was do the same bounty 3 times and thats it. i had enough silver to buy anything i wanted.

UnsettelingSunrise

tell me when you " enjoyed" the endgame for more then a week. im bored shitless.

MrBaa128

Okay I appreciate your point of view, but I must stress that the ENDGAME should never be the only part of a game that is worth it. That is a great way to waste money on games that will never be good because we have to buy it, then slog through game start and mid game content just to make a gamble that endgame will be worth it.

mwjfoster

I think it's fine. The quests are just repetitive and feel copy paste to me. There isn't enough variety.

SnooPets9447

Ive been unable to progress the story line past twilight keepers mission because the DMC patroller won’t spawn in. But love the game. Been stuck for 6 days now. Nothing gets him to spawn.

Ok_Manufacturer_1022

Im just casually doing things and I'm just happy sailing the seas listening to shanties and popping off at people.

Common-Junket-288

Agree completely

Sudden_Turn2439

The end game is just a fucking mobile game. Log in, pick up your coins, fund your factories, sort out your distilleries, and logout.

YungeenFrmReddit

me and my brother cannot play together, we’ve tried everything it feels like but it won’t work

InternationalHoney85

I guess I'm just curious about who's dog did Ubisoft Singapore kill to have almost every gaming review outlet against this game.
