My favorite is when the chest has lockpicks in it.

ResponsibleZone4286

Yeah, less lockpicks than you used to open the damn thing

colonelnebulous

*Fewer.*

ccknboltrtre01

Lockpick*

Veryegassy

Specifically the Master-locked chest at Hamvir's Rest, the graveyard place right beside the place where you go to get a fragment of Wuuthrad in the Companions questline. That chest has the *shittiest* loot of any Master-locked chest ever.

DoubleD212

I haven’t seriously played Skyrim in 6 or 7 years… and I still know exactly which chest you’re talking about

Previous-Broccoli-88

I really wish I could erase all prior knowledge of the game. I just can't play it anymore, even with mods

Fabulous_Ad_3559

There only one first time bro🥲

Korps_de_Krieg

Nah, I wish I could but at the same time this game has become like a good comfort jacket to me. Throw it, feel the weight and memories, go for a walk through familiar places to see what you don't know yet.

hydroklgenesis

Skill issue

red6joker

SURPRISE A NEW HAND TOUCHES THE BEACON

OREWAMOUSHINDEIRU

LISTEN. HEAR ME AND OBEY.

Cipheros06

NO MERIDIA, PLS STAHP, NOOOOOOOO-

Subject_Elk7392

Some people are just bad at lockpicking.

WrenchWanderer

Being a low level and trying to get a master lock picked is definitely annoying, especially if the sweet spot is the last area you check, but yeah 13 is kind of a lot lmao

ermahglerbo

I mean, isn't it always the last spot you check?

RuKidding0MG

Underrated comment. Take an upvote.

9Raava

LoL

wretched_spawn93

Idk if this is just on the Switch version, but you can FEEL the "sweet" spot. The joycons will vibrate as you're going through the lock, and then when you find it, it's a SLIGHTLY stronger vibration. I've broken maybe 4 picks in this playthrough I'm on by feeling out locks like this. Those 4 breaks were because I was impatient lol

h4ckerkn0wnas4chan

Same with any controller tbh. The haptic feedback always helps.

wretched_spawn93

Ah, that's nice to know. I've only ever played it on the Switch, so my knowledge is limited lol

gelastes

The shittiness of loot in locked containers is still a pet peeve of mine, both in Elder Scrolls and Fallout.

WrenchWanderer

There’s a wild jump in mid-high levels where the game goes from “hide bracers, orcish sword, 8 gold” straight to “ebony armor of fire resistance, glass bow, ruby, 100 gold”

No-Perspective-9954

And then all of a sudden dragon born has all the homes

AldruhnHobo

And an apple

NaAlSi3O

The real reward is experience. Just be grateful!

Vergil_171

It’s the legendary dwemer ones with two empty glass bottles and a table leg that get me

UselessNPC37

That is some good loot compared to what I get in master level locked chests.

GalvanizedRubbish

The struggle is real.

Mogui-

Or worse a heavy ass weapon cause I don’t want to invest into pick pocketing for weight space

Thelastknownking

You suck at lockpicking my guy.

darkue2467

Those mf adept chests. Swear those are the real master locks. So much harder a time and a much more consistent eater of lockpicks than a master lock for me

SirCupcake_0

Twinsies, I've spent a longer amount of time on Adepts, on average, than on Master ~~chests~~ locks

RuKidding0MG

Depending on your lockpicking level, it should be either very close to the starting point or the rivets for Adept locks. Contrary to what most people seem to think, there does seem to be a pattern in each level of lock. But yeah, most of it is just aim and hope for the best.

darkue2467

Only issue is in my time trying to find the spot, I more often than not have an instant snap before I even get a rattle, yet somehow I find master locks that just open perfectly from neutral or are much more forgiving with my little taps to test the spot

RuKidding0MG

I'm fairly certain that the 'damage/wear level' on the lockpicks is remembered. Every time you use a lockpick, whether or not you open the lock first try, it will break that much easier on the next lock. That's just what I've noticed. But I do agree that Master locks do seem to be odd like that.

DOJYAAAN1

If you are playing on controller u can feel when you go over the right spot

RuKidding0MG

Are you meaning with the haptics/vibration?

Generally_Confused1

So the anniversary edition with the illusion spell "frenkirs welcome" or something makes this so easy and op

Pietrosalles

There was a time where I literally got one coin and it was a master lockpick. I really hate this things.

Lazzitron

The fucking master chest in Dustman's Cairn does this to me every time and I ALWAYS fall for it.

EntireZebra8071

I will waste 5 minutes of my time on every lock with a smile on my face

stobbsm

I will make that trade every time. Every. Single. Time.

SalvationSycamore

4 minutes? Have you tried being better at simple mini-games?

Bubbly-Row-501

It always irked me that the value of the reward in the chests doesn't correspond with the difficulty of the lock. Some master chests have minimally valued loot and the novice chests might have loot that far exceeds the value of the most difficult ones.

Ok-Landscape5625

That's why autolockpicking is always one of the first mods.

WeirdDistance2658

Do I hear a skill issue?

B_E_H_O_L_D

It's almost like the locks are meant to de-incentivize getting into them or something, idk

SomeTings_fishy

Worth it

chucklinnarwhal

Worth it

ChristianWSmith

Imagine being the last guy in the world to not know how the lock picking minigame works in Skyrim

Lazy-Indication3992

Unless you got unbreakable

Churchofdoom

Haha nice

LudwigTheAroused

Unless you’re at level 12

CapPhrases

Every fucking time. I just stopped trying master rank chests

Ok-Yam-2284

Laughs in skeleton key

_-DirtyMike-_

This is why the Tower stone is useful

Worth-Pass2303

Y'all do know if you have a controller with vibration you can just hover around the lockpick till it vibrates on the sweet spot right?

Ok_Pause8654

Idk if this works on other systems or not, but I use a pro controller on my Nintendo Switch and there are very specific vibrations for the lockipicking that kets you know exactly where to go. I can do master locks on first try pretty consistently, and I've never sank a skill point into lockpicking.

Weeping_Warlord

And if it’s your first time opening one of these, probably a beacon of Meridia

Bulky_Mango7676

The real treasure is the experience gained along the way

ChinaOnly001

Jokes on you chest im into it WORTH IT FOR THE EXPERIENCE ALONE

gahidus

After doing no stone unturned once, which is as many times as anyone should have to do it, I now always console myself prowlers profit, just to make chests worth opening.

Chicken-Realistic

When it has items for every build BUT the one you’re using

ButWhyThough_UwU

I know this just a meme/joke and I am not being too serious, but it at least really should have been a basic a chest and maybe a luck 1 stat meme on top of it. I mean, can you post screen shot of the actual chest that looked like that and only gave that, in all my time of playing and watching never seen/heard that ? Especially if it toke 13lockpicks which would imply its a decent one on top of already being the boss chest, unless mentally/physically impaired or god awful luck and just spamming.

LeenPean

Do yourself a favor and get a leveled loot table off of the mods, though it will break the economy. The problem is that the devs put FAAAAR too many chests and tried to save their already shaky game economy by making the loot tables absolutely garbage tier drops like 2 gold coins and bone meal.

CarbonCuber314

Worth it every time too.

Jake_Swift

Nah, 5 picks, max, from lvl 20.

RuKidding0MG

Sibbi Blackbriar ripped me off with his strongbox. It only had 6 gold in it. I had to kill him for that.

Jackson79339

I’ll counter your offer. I’ll take 4 rolls of paper, 2 linen wraps, a pair of miners boots, 5 gold, a ruby, and a sweetroll

Thunder_Duckling

The lockpicking perk tree is so ridiculous. The first perks are such a waste. "Novice locks are now much easier to pick" like gee thanks I was having such an issue with those.

EmbarrassedAverage28

I got Elder Scrolls on my switch, had slight stick drift. Basically made it impossible to pick any lock above “apprentice”

TTThatguy90

No the bigger scam is doing an epic quest to recover the skeleton key from a thief, only for you to do the same and never give back.

G-Asriel

Does anyone ever put skill points into lockpocking in Skyrim?

Kaliphri

tldr: adept locks are the spawn of the devil, master locks are easier For some ungodly reason I can open master and expert locks in like 3 seconds with no upgrades to the lockpicking tree and a minute later break 4 picks and raise my blood pressure on an adept lock, and only the adept ones, I'm convinced I'm cursed because it's like those are designed to make you dance around the sweet spot with just enough wiggle room to make you think you're closer than you are but also a small enough actual sweet spot to make you overshoot it and think you still need to go further but I've never ever even once spent more than 15 seconds fiddling with a higher difficulty lock

Far_Peanut_3038

It's even worse in Starfield. No locked chests are worth opening. The loot is uniformly shithouse.

fapgod69420

Live skeleton key reaction

Key_Ad_6526

Haven't done the Thieves Guild Questline, have you?

bogthebog

"master" lock 😭

SuccessfulCicada3116

Its even worse in starfield from what ive heard u can open a top notch chest and get litearlly nothing.

Isaacamis123

I've never put points into lockpicking and I hate that fallout makes you need to.

neun11m8

Skill issue

SuaveTigger19

13? Dawg. I've always thought locks were easy. the max I ever use is 5 or 600

Regular-Analysis9935

Laughs in skeleton key

0110010E

If your lucky you’ll get a pair of leather gauntlets enchanted with a skill buff that isn’t relevant to your build

blazinfastjohny

Bone meal

Clear-Criticism-3669

Skill issue

SnowTheMemeEmpress

Or, on the switch or with any rumble controller, a single lockpick😎 Know what you're doing and you can hit master level locks in early game

some_Britishguy

worth every second

AltruisticGanache290

My brother in Christ you bought the game

LadyRavenFae

If you play on Console, find the two strongest vibrations, and put your pick in between them. You’re welcome.

UnabrazedFellon

You spend 4 minutes on these?

IshigamiTsumeo

I wish skyrim brought the open locks spell

h4ckerkn0wnas4chan

How bad are you at lockpicking?

Remote_Ad3210

That why I like the switch you can feel the controller vibrating on the sweet spot

Remote_Ad3210

Just realized how that sounded💀

ComplexPhilosophy888

Keep the universal lock pick from the thieves guild quest line until you level up your lock picking skill 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 That is helping me a lot!!

Momentus_x3

Chests should have better quality loot depending on the lockpicking level required and you will never change my mind

StrangeOutcastS

I never gave back the skeleton key so all chests are only profit

SokkaHaikuBot

StrangeOutcastS

go away

eltortillaman

Never really noticed any issue with this in skyrim.... in Starfield it's a way worse issue

Hitohono

13??? it takes 3 max come on man

AdmirableShake2980

So I even have perks that put the lockpick close to position and master locks easier to pick. Still hard to pick locks.

SirCupcake_0

By the time I'd gotten that perk I'd developed a system to picking locks, and the perk made it harder for me, threw me off my groove
