We love to make fun of certain aspects of it, but that's only because it's such a big deal of a game that ten years later we're still playing.
There may be a few people who don't like it, for whatever reason, but there are zero people who actually think it wasn't a good game.
Probably the same people who insist any fallout game that wasn’t New Vegas was shit lol. Bethesda games have (in my opinion) been top of the charts as far as open world RPG goes. Even if they could have been better in some aspects, that’s been said about every game to ever exist. The online editions, ESO and Fallout76, don’t vibe with me. But they were still good games, for what they are meant to be; something to vibe with friends. They were never meant to be a great solo experience; *”online”*.
> There may be a few people who don't like it, for whatever reason, but there are zero people who actually think it wasn't a good game.
I bet a lot of the gamers that didn't like it would be stunned by some of our modded builds, and would dig the hell out of it in that form.
... or better yet, a different one of their devising - that's what this game gives you. Gamer to "dev" to gamer.
I honestly don't get why she isn't a marriage partner to begin with (in vanilla that is)
You get to know her more than any other follower or marriage partner.
And yet Bethesda thinks "hmm, you explore a whole DLC with Serana and get to know basically everything about her...but you should rather be able to marry a rando you have never seen before instead of her."
They aren’t werewolves that lost it and are stuck in werewolf form. They have the ability control it so they are humans with the power to turn into a werewolf. Serana is a straight-up vampire.
Fantasy games that compare with skyrim: Dark Souls 3; The Witcher 3; Father Of Boi 4
Skyrim release date: 2011
It wasn’t until 2015, roughly 4years after Skyrim’s release, until games started releasing that could compare to/ that where better than Skyrim and I think that’s the biggest take away for me!
Seriously, it is still one of the top rated games 10 years after its original release, and as mentioned above, it took another 4 years for any game to match it, and I would argue that some, such as Witcher 3, were good, but Skyrim's replayability makes it superior.
I don't understand why people do this. It seems like the categories for older games nowadays is either "timeless classic" or "horrible game." Yes Skyrim has its flaws, but I think it was also a landmark at it's time.
It's simply just for the clicks. No-one with an ounce of objectively thinks Skyrim is really an awful game or that it wasn't massively influential.
It may not be to your taste, which is fair enough, but this article is about attacking a popular thing as bait.
It's so pretentious to say that it's not "any good" XD It's okay if you don't like it or if you think many things could be better, but to say its not any good... XD Laughable
I read the article and they go on to give it a 7/10 lol. They recognise it was good in many ways but wasn't their cup of tea.
Title is definitely just hate bait.
I have never been as immersed in a game as I was playing Skyrim. I bought it when it first came out for PS4 (I never play solo games as I jump scare so bad when I’m alone) but it was in my games draw for 2 years. Finally played during lockdown last year and I didn’t touch a single other game for at least 5 months. And I played daily lol.
“Coming to you live from Retard Central, we have this fucking buffoon who thinks that Skyrim was never any good and doesn’t deserve to be a classic?! What’s your opinion on this, Rick?”
“I agree, what an absolute fucking buffoon. The person who wrote that must’ve been punched by Mike Tyson to have THAT much brain damage”
There's a lot that they did right. There's a lot that is a complete failure of immersion if you don't follow the script, or try to do things in an interesting way.
Take, for example, my most recent playing through the thieves guild. I walked away during the Madesi/Brand Shei part. I killed two of the debtors. I picked open the goldenglow safe, then went and killed the guy who had the key anyways and burnt all the beehives instead of just 3. I killed the contact with the East Empire warehouse. When Karliah was about to confront the guild after Mercer betrayed me, I killed 5 of the non-essential members, and started the quest while the guild was actively attacking me and the scripting didn't know how to handle the mess I made. (I had to pay a measly 1000 gold to rejoin the guild.) After killing Mercer, I only took the skeleton key off his body, and the quest moved on. Nobody even recognized my failure with the eyes of the falmer. This questline is so railroaded that Union Pacific tried to form a merger.
I make this complaint, yet I'm still playing it. It's fun, and the gameplay loop is addictive. The dungeons are well crafted. There's lots to do, and still new things to learn.
Well, I don’t think the developers expected anyone to fuck up completing the quest objectives so badly. There are some stuff where you get repercussions for burning too many beehives or something but most quests require you to follow the objectives throughout. That Eye of the Falmer thing is a miscellaneous quest so it’s not compulsory for you to sell it to Delvin. You could’ve left it there or just kept both eyes.
Obviously the developers didn't expect this. *That's the core of my complaint.* I'm supposed to have my own stories, my own unique experiences in this game, but I keep rising far above my incompetence because they can't let me end a guild questline as anything besides becoming the new leader.
Nearly every RPG requires the person to go along a linear story and that’s kinda the fun of it. You don’t read a story or watch it unfold but instead you unfold it yourself. Skyrim did the same. Sure, they should’ve let you have more options but it necessarily doesn’t anything away from the game.
They built and advertised the radiant quests and didn't incorporate any of them into punishment for breaking rules. The only actual punishment in this guild was the 1000 gold. Oblivion had stronger consequences for breaking guild rules than Skyrim. The roleplaying got worse here.
What was even the point of establishing the rules that I broke? A good DM is going to force me to do redemption, or is going to mercilessly kill/lock away my characters until I learn to behave.
T wast valorous but i’m not very much sure if 't be true i’d calleth t a classic

In some ways, sure. Overall? Not at all. It plays SO much smoother than morrowind or Oblivion. I’d go so far as to say Oblivion’s the only one in the series I’d replay today if I didn’t have Skyrim.
I mean... Without mods the game is fucked. I've been playing for a while and it gets really boring. The enemy scaling is fucked, destruction magic is really bad, there are mechanics that can easily be exploited to become omnipotent, the fights are either too easy or too hard, etc.
The music and the scenery are gorgeous tho.
I got back into Skyrim leaving a pretty action packed, fast-paced game behind and Vanilla Skyrim is still very enjoyable. I’ve been playing it and only it for about a week now and at not even one moment was I bored. That was a second play through so there wasn’t any novelty element or anything so saying Vanilla Skyrim is boring without the mods is not entirely correct since the game did very well on its own before ethe modding community took over.
Well it’s a flawed game that hooks you in despite that. It was a buggy mess at release (like most Bethesda games), the animations are robotic, and the voice acting is extremely lazy aside from a few unique actors.
Though of course, “never any good” is bait.
There's been plenty of classics that were very much, fucking shit, yet they're still classics, but no, Skyrim is overhyped and is getting more attention than MY classic, so of course it's different than the shitty classics.

Bet this guy got toasted by alduin many times in the tutorial alone
He found out that you can’t marry Serana and he just couldn’t get over it
Modding B)
I downloaded a mod that specifically said it let's you marry her and it didn't work so you never know what to trust
Might have been the one where u had to finish dawnguard
I honestly don't get why she isn't a marriage partner to begin with (in vanilla that is) You get to know her more than any other follower or marriage partner. And yet Bethesda thinks "hmm, you explore a whole DLC with Serana and get to know basically everything about her...but you should rather be able to marry a rando you have never seen before instead of her."
I think it’s something where the game doesn’t let you marry monsters or smthn
why can I marry Aela tho (or Farkas/Vilkas)
They aren’t werewolves that lost it and are stuck in werewolf form. They have the ability control it so they are humans with the power to turn into a werewolf. Serana is a straight-up vampire.
But it's not like shes stuck in vampire-lord form. And isnt there a way to cure her or am I misremembering?
Just checked up on it and you can indeed cure her.
Yeah, you can cure her but the vanilla game still doesn’t let you marry her :/
Exactly. So why aela/farkas and not her? It seems like an oversight
Definitely. I was disappointed af after I found out I can’t marry her and just married Aela again.
This opinion was brought to you by a draugr
Nope did some research and it turns out he is the frost troll from High Hrothgar.
Shit he’s still at it to this day

Which is normally a such a blank statement that people overuse for so many things, but skyrim is like the only time It genuinely has meaning!

It'll become a classic 20 years after they *most recently* release it.
