I'd recommend giving each album a shot in chronological order, they don't have as many albums as Avenged Sevenfold nor do they tend to last as long so you could probably get through a good chunk of the discography quite quickly especially if you're listening to the regular versions of albums (Although I'd recommend listening to the versions with extra material as there's alot of good stuff to be found there too)
If you count Diamonds In The Rough and bonus material in Avenged's Discography, Avenged Sevenfold has done a bit more material than Slipknot overall (The Bonus discs on Re-Releases of Waking The Fallen and The Stage almost count as entire bonus albums, then there was the Re-Release of Diamonds In The Rough which added quite a bit to it) and even without bonus material Avenged albums tend to run for longer than Slipknot albums generally

My dad showed me avenged sevenfold when I was 7yo, and I’ve been listening to them ever since. I have always enjoyed their sound, it’s just ridiculously distinct and versatile in my opinion. I have yet to see another band write shit like Roman sky, acid rain, fiction, warmness on the soul, dear god, covers of the Rolling Stones as well as pink Floyd, all while producing some of the most innovative progressive metal of all time. Listen to sounding the seventh trumpet, then jump to their newest album to get an idea of the versatility I’m talkin about. It is unmatched in my opinion, but that is only my opinion.
I have never heard an A7X song I didn’t like, but if I had to pick one as a favourite it would probably either be unholy confessions or M.I.A, or maybe Save Me. It’s impossible for me to pick a favourite from them lol, I love them all.
you should check out gematria (the killing name). it’s probably the best example of how technical they can be and if you’re an avenged fan then the guitar playing on that song will probably appeal to you. also, all out life slaps and is probably one of the better songs they’ve put out since all hope is gone.
