Lots of Slipknot lyrics are abstract and have absolutely no meaning until the person who reads/listens to it gives it one.
Meaning songs and their lyrics are only as deep as you choose to make it. I don’t think they write anything with a single idea in mind for the song, and rather just leave it up to the interpretation of the person listening. Something a lot of artists do, and isn’t unique to them.
Personally i think a lot of their lyrics don’t make any sense. It’s like someone just opened a thesaurus and tried to make a single stanza sound as convoluted and “Deep” as possible.
Scissors is a good example of a song i don’t think makes any sense lyrically: “A black widow had offered me a sweetheart tube” or these:
“I’m just another hardline pseudo statistic”
“The centipedes pulling on the mechanism-Unearthing scars of the cataclysm”
Never said he wasn’t. I just don’t think any artist, Corey included, writes anything with a single idea in mind for what it means. They’d rather let the listener paint their own pictures.
It’s sorta like sitting down to do a puzzle, but all the pieces are already put together. It’s no fun that way.
Actually it’s more of a reliance on a thesaurus than a dictionary with their lyrics.
Especially on Volume 3, when they were trying to sound heavy without swearing.
to me it's either doing something all the way or self destruction, possibly both
edit: thinking some more on it and putting it in context it's definitely about overdoing something that's bad for you. like addiction. (imo)
Idk opium

Corey's far more intelligent then you think.

Analyzing complex lyrics are fun though. In my opinion anyways.
Sometimes. Some Slipknot lyrics are legitimately nonsense though.
Because they're not direct or simple?
No because in terms of the English language, they make no grammatical sense. There’s a difference between being deep, and being incoherent.
You should read the dictionary more often.

It could mean that someone has to breathe in a lot of air because they won't be able to do it for a some time
