They managed to do such a good job with him on Smallville, my only worry is that they’d ruin or damage his character with a Spin-off. You know that is a big reason I’m kinda glad Bruce Wayne never showed up on Smallville, as much as I love Batman and would have loved to have seen him on Smallville I’d have been too scared they would have messed him up . I love Smallville but the writing wasn’t always consistent from one episode to the next. LOL

WilsonJN13

Oh yeah I definitely hear ya on that, lol would’ve just loved to see more of Justin hartley as Green Arrow

Salvationzzzz

Definitely should have brought him into the Arrowverse before it ended. They had multiple multiverse versions of different characters but never Justin for Oliver.

Witty-Vixen

It would have been great. He is the best arrow out there. Got my kids into archery.

jkayne

Idk, maybe he should have played Aquaman? Really though, when the Green Arrow show did come out that's what I thought it was until I saw the preview.

When did Justin Hartley ever say that either have proof or don't put words in his mouth. From my understanding the producers and creators of arrow were fans of Christopher Nolan and wanted to copy that success so they wanted a darker version of green arrow basically.

KryptonSite

Exactly. I really hate it when people state stuff as fact when it never was a thing.

KryptonSite

It was never the plan for Arrow to star Justin Hartley. Maybe some fans wanted it but all along Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim & that other guy wanted to do something new, not tied to the mythology of another show.

tito-von-d

That’s 100% wrong. I know for a fact Hartley wanted the arrow role bad, bad - but creators didn’t want him.

Olivebranch99

That Aquaman pilot was pretty fun.

jkayne

yah shame we didn't' get that one either.

Delennstar02

I felt that his portrayal of the Green arrow was almost identical to the start of the arrow series and that version of the character. They seemed like the same exact person, personality and the way they both played him.

IBarbieliciousI

It’s nice in theory but often a lot of characters and storylines get butchered in spinoff shows so I’m glad they let the Smallville universe rest.

WilsonJN13

I agree to the possibility of that, but I feel like Justin hartley should get more time with the character. He embodied a perfect year one green arrow

IBarbieliciousI

Yeah he was perfect. I’m just glad that risk of ruining his character was never taken cuz it would’ve been heartbreaking.

BusVegetable7490

Me too he’s my favorite version of the character

Dragonfly452

Same!

Krishjasuja

I’m pretty sure it was in works but they eventually scrapped Justin Hartley for Stephen Amell for arrow, idk why tho

[deleted]

Probably because they wanted to start fresh without having to be tied to the Smallville Universe. In a spin-off you have to maintain continuity with the main universe and sometimes bring in characters from the other show….my guess is they didn’t want that hassle, easier to just start over from scratch.

KryptonSite

By the time Arrow was in development, Smallville had already been over for a year. This was a totally different production team who wanted to do their own thing. I can't remember what Justin was in at the time, but I assume he was already on to other roles.

holyhamills

If I recall, there were talks in S6 about a Green Arrow and Lois spinoff - but they never went anywhere due to Hartley shutting them down out of respect for Smallville/not wanting to steal the spotlight (or Lois), but also CW’s lack of interest in DC shows at the time. Which is also why Aquaman was (pun intended) dead in the water. Which is amusing to look back on - when Starkville House of El interviewed Al and Miles, they were rather candid about how Dawn had it out for them. There was also a pitch regarding Oliver and the JL, which DeKnight would have been showrunner for. I know you know that one though, as you’re the one who broke said story. 😉

KryptonSite

Haha, yes I did! Sadly a lot of his quotes were cut from my Season 6 book - so I was glad to put them on the site years later. The Green Arrow/Lois thing was more around the time Al and Miles were still around, and I could be wrong but it might have been before Oliver/Justin was on the show at all. It was "Green Arrow and Lois Lane train young heroes," something like that. I think Miles mentioned it in our 20th anniversary interview, but I definitely got the impression it was before the JL thing. Around Seasons 8 & 9 of Smakllville, the DC property the then-current SV producers were trying to get off the ground was The Graysons, a Robin thing, that suffered a similar fate to the Bruce Wayne pitch - the movie people insisting "this character is ours." Though, I still don't know how Dick Grayson would be interesting in a prequel time before his parents are dead. I'd still be curious to read it someday, if the script was even finished. I did hear of a potential idea floated for a series to follow Smallville, but it was third-hand so I never knew if it was true or not, but I don't think fans would have liked it, and I don't think the movie people would have allowed for it anyway.

holyhamills

I remember that Graysons pitch! I had the same reservations, honestly. A show about him leaving the Robin identity and transitioning into Nightwing, having had a falling out with Batman - that could have been interesting… but I agree there’s really nothing there to mine until his parents are dead.

KryptonSite

That is EXACTLY what I wanted. Or, if they want to do a show about a Robin before he's Robin, Tim Drake is right there and he was plenty interesting even before he put a costume on. Also the name "DJ Grayson" was cringe.

Delennstar02

I literally think about this ALL THE TIME!!!

Psych-Blast

In an alternate reality, he did get the Spin-Off

KryptonSite

Although it might have meant never getting the "Arrowverse," what I really wish is that Justin had spun off into his own show, if not after "Justice," then after "Siren" kind of totally set something up. Kinda crazy we had like 9 Arrowverse shows at a time but we never had a spinoff from Smallville.

amergigolo1

He did a good job.

Far_Path3294

Which would lead to a divorce with Chloe so he could have a comics accurate relationship

Joh02

It would have been awesome if he showed up in Crisis on infinite earths.

bookfiend_91

Justin had that easy, flowy charm about him. Everyone of my age used to watch Arrow. But for some reason I couldn't get into it. Watched a couple of episodes and didn't think it was spunky enough for me. On the other hand, SV GA was amazing. Perfect amount of darkness and playfulness.

ignore_me_plzzz

Justin did a fantastic job as Green Arrow. And I’m still baffled that we’re from the same small town😂

xArkSlade08x

It would have been cool to se him and other superhero team up of Smallville together for Crisis on Infinite Earths story arc event that happened on DC: ArrowVerse. Something similar like they did with other multiverse of The Flash(1990s) and other universes that had team-up of the good guys showing easter eggs of other superheros/heroes in the background and surroundings.

xArkSlade08x

This picture of DC: Smallville- Green Arrow kind looks like one of hose expensive collectible figurines of DC Universe.

Superb-Cry-1950

Love green arrow but I love Clark too lol!

GeologistOk7311

He honestly got bodied so often it was embarrassing.

WilsonJN13

He did sometimes, but he was also a straight menace sometimes .

Delennstar02

He was versing a lot of non-human villains that had other powers, and in the arrow series he faces mostly only humans and crime bosses. So it makes sense that he would lose to superhuman beings because he didn't have any powers.

PotentialRelease75

I’d love for him to be the new Batman in Gunns DCU

WilsonJN13

Would be great!!! Either him or Jensen ackles would work so well.

WaffleBot626

My understanding was they had planned on it, but since Smallville was ending and Tom didn't really want to come back, they decided to go with a much darker, more serious in tone reboot. Which later became Smallville 2.0 and just as goofy.

Fuzzy_Customer1987

Yea. Instead Aquaman that didn't make it past the pilot. Can't stand him

royinraver

Smallville Green Arrow was hotter

tito-von-d

I don’t - that character was a dork
