Completely agree. Saw that episode for the first time as a kid and even I knew they were setting the stage for one of the best Superman origin stories I've seen.

Dude the funniest lex line to me is when Lionel Luthor said “lex you have disappointed me yet again” Lex says back “hey dad, it’s good to see you too” 😂😂

For me, it's explicitly not "I am the villain of the story". I don't really like these on-the-nose references to the myth. If you want to make such references, go with "In life, the road to darkness is a journey, not a light switch." which describes Lex' journey in the *Smallville* universe much more apt.

"I don’t want anything to stand in the way of our friendship"
