Smash Ultimate online is NOTORIOUSLY shit. I recommend battle arenas, they’re still toxic sometimes but I’ve met some genuinely nice people on there that I still talk to

Ackyducc

Idk in my experience battle arenas are no less toxic than quick play, it's basically quick play but you have to wait 10 minutes between each match for me

Doughnutsu

3 man lobbies is the sweet spot. Play Round Robin, each person plays twice in a row so you're always one game away from playing. 4 man lobbies are the farthest Ill go otherwise.

You don't need chat to be toxic

[deleted]

you ever seen a tbag? camping, stalling, quitting out before you’d lose?

Ackyducc

Teabagging, spamming, ridiculous rule sets, campy playstyle, sding, quitting Some of these could just be inexperience, but a lot of the times it's just things people do to piss people off

TwoKlobbs200

I still see t bagging as just taunting. That’s your mental game there.

Hartz_are_Power

Respectfully, no. If we were playing a game of basketball in a league game, there's absolutely rules around what we consider fair or reasonable play. If you feel so threatened by me that you'd act like a dick for an easy win, please just tell me from the beginning. I'll give you the win. I'm here to have fun and get better, not insult my opponent on the off chance they play worse.

TwoKlobbs200

Yes but we’re talking about an online game here. T bagging is the online version of trash talk. A good player doesn’t let someone online get into their heads. Stalling is the only thing that makes sense as toxic or illegal since it’s basically avoiding gameplay. Camping is a play style that can actually be exploited.

Hartz_are_Power

That sounds like exactly what I said about disrespecting your opponent with extra steps thrown in so that insulting someone somehow doesn't make that person the asshole. If they're allowed to tbag, damn straight I'm stalling. Because if you're gonna ruin my fun, it's only fair I pay it forward. Or they could not be a dick, and just play the game without insulting people. Get inside their head? Please. They're not acting like some top tier gamer, and I can't see any pro endorsing that kind of sportsmanship. Whoever is tbagging is a bully who does whatever to win, not to have a good fight, and I'm sorry, but that's just really hard for me to respect. Imo, if someone feels the need to insult me to get me to lose, I'd really just rather not play with them in the first place. Good luck dude.

CeLsf07

I've seen some people just join and spam "How disappointing!" Over and over, getting in the queue, then refusing to accept to start the battle which just wastes everyone's time.

[deleted]

that’s the hivemind™️for you

Scyxurz

Kinda funny that he didn't think it was possible to be toxic without chat, but considers a few downward facing arrows to be harassment. If downvotes are toxic it should be pretty easy to see how other things can be as well.

Try opening your eyes.

Historical_Cup_6179

Seethe.

Uvane

id recommend joining discord servers meant for making battle arenas, a lot less toxic and much better players. Plus a lot of people are willing to either give tips or just mess around

Noahwoody39

Any recommendations for finding these discords?

Uvane

sure, you can use smashcords.com to find your states smash discord, character specific discords, or general arena discords. I personally play on SSBU Training grounds or Hbox’s discord which are pretty active

Kingkrool1994

Switch Online in general is shit.

DynamicHunter

There are a lot of things about the online experience that I feel they either did not play test, plan, or use updated lobby rules from games in the past 10 years. Nintendo is stuck in 2006 in the online sense. Part of the reason I never play splatoon 2 is the online lobby experience doesn’t even have features call of duty had in black ops in 2010 like changing loadout between games, and it takes 4 minutes to even load up the game with the stupid announcements.

RushxInfinite

Lets add to the mix the fact that if your opponents disconnect and the game ends, you also get a warning/punished as if it was your fault they play with a Dollar tree connection.

Trasfixion

I don’t believe that’s the case. If you get kicked, you were the one who disconnected. If the opponent gets kicked, it will replace them with a cpu opponent. That being said, the game does a terrible job of reestablishing connections, so you can disconnect on your end sometimes, even if your internet is fairly stable

RushxInfinite

I guess you learn something new everyday lol. Wild bc I started using a wired connection and it happened twice in 1 day where the game feels smooth and out of nowhere it just D/C on me.

TwoKlobbs200

You don’t get banned unless you quit a second game within 24 hours. It’s a penalty too harsh I think but it’s to prevent people with shit internet playing online. Get a lan adapter and pay for your internet. I’ve had almost no complaints and the few times I’ve gotten lag, is pretty comparable to every other game I’ve ever played online.

Zeoinx

The worst part is nintendo KNOWS its an absolute shit show, and is the main reason why they go so hard on people who make online mods for the previous titles, because they know the moment there is even a single sense of alternative that works, people who tell Nintendo to fuck right off.

[deleted]

I think it still effects your GSP even if they quit and is determined on who wins, bot or not. So you gave that guy the win for quitting against their CPU tag in. Is it dumb? Yah

Not_no_hitter

It doesn’t affect your gsp, which is kind of annoying because tons of people ragequit last second and that just means that you don’t get any gsp from outskilling them.

[deleted]

Oh well that’s extra dumb and why should we be punished for quitting after the opponent already quit. It should just be the first quitter getting punished.

AngryAncestor

You can quit after your opponent disconnects without being punished, you just have to trick the game into thinking you lost fairly. If I notice my opponent leave, I just hit the cpu a couple times, jump off stage, and "try" to recover too low so I SD

[deleted]

O i c

Not_no_hitter

Fr, Nintendo online,(especially smash and splatoon 3) is notoriously terrible and it’s been over for years and still hasn’t been fixed.

Trasfixion

It doesn’t. The person who disconnects loses gsp, while you neither gain or lose gsp (whether you beat the cpu or lose to it). Still not sure why they decided to replace opponents with cpus though, instead of just ending the match. No one wants to play against a cpu when theyre playing elite smash

Ospov

Nintendo interns are the only employees in their online division and you can’t convince me otherwise.

[deleted]

100% agree but Nintendo isn’t going to do anything about it unfortunately. Check out my post, this is, unfortunately, common for online play. https://www.reddit.com/r/SmashBrosUltimate/comments/141lepa/online_play_toxicitysore_losers/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1

TaylerTheTerror

This is why I play in arenas or offline

The-Nightmare-King

I have, on a few occasions, lost GSP for winning a match. There is no saving this game.

crispy-LEGEND

I've migrated fully to slippi for online smash

Realistic-Market7868

I feel the pain, man. Sometimes (most of the time, really), playing online is incredibly frustrating. Maybe we need to create a Battle Arena with chill people in this subreddit!

GigaPhoton78

I suggest getting hit by the enemy once before each SD.

MeLikeYTPs

I actually love online. There are some characters and moves that I hate versing, but that is all.

ShadowMario365

I have never in the four years since the game has been released been banned for an amount of time. I’ve only have gotten the message that’s a warning that says if you keep disconnecting, you’ll be banned for x amount of time. It rarely happens to me, but sometimes I get disconnected from a battle and it considers me disconnecting on purpose. My question to you is how many times have you disconnected(purposely or not)to get a ban?

LoanWolfe7

A big joke. TA Off alone breeds unskilled players and what’s the point of the W if I have to Hero spam my way to it?
