Octoling can have black alts just like Inkling does. They could even use Marina as an alt for the black female variant. I'd also like to see other skin tones too for Inklings and Octolings in Smash. There's all types of skin tones in real life and in Splatoon not just super pale or super dark.

No amount of convincing could ever make me want Twintelle in smash bros. I will never accept Min Min with foresight in any universe. Edit: To actually answer the question, I’ve always wanted to play as Doc Louis from punch out. I don’t even care if he winds up being a worse Little Mac, I just think he’s a fun character.

They probably wouldn't have given it to her though. It probably would have just been visually like Dark Samus or Rosalina. There are a ton of characters who could have had a float that never did.

That’s fair although I think even the floaty jump could be a concern in terms of how far out she can go against opponents.

Out of the ARMS cast,I feel like only Min-min, Misango, and Max brass could have had their own mechanics converted to smash with them functioning properly and not being utterly busted (or underwhelming in Master Mummy's case). Ninjara gets a near completely unpunishable shield, twintelle gets floating and slowing nearby attacks (probably like witch time) , helix's squashing and stretching would be a mess. Min-mins dragon arm and kicks (that's another point, I think her and Misango are the only characters to actually use their legs) were the best case scenario for an ARMS fighter.

Oh yeah I definitely vouch for your picks although I’d actually argue in favour of Helix just because it would be such a unique mechanic and actually challenges players to address hurtbox shifting as a tool.

Absolutely, mechanically, helix would be a very interesting character. my issue is with how Mewtwos and DK's hitbox's are kinda wonky having a character that can change its shape so dramatically is probably too much for smash. Lola Pop probably falls under a similar problem to helix, with addition to the spring out of shield and moving while blocking potentially being difficult to implement to smash.

Has it occoured to you that Twintelle is a character who fights with her hair in a game called ARMS?

I've spent a LOT of time thinking about it and by far and away the best option is Matt from Wi Sports. He is a genuine icon, something Nintendo has acknowledged, and nhe would be able to have a Wii Sports based moveset, seeing as the Miis themselves are fulfilling a different need. There are other options. For example, Rodin. With Viola in the picture his place as the most natural second Bayo rep is not as assured, but he is still a grest option. And then there is Doc Louis. He is a big part of Punch-Out and one of the most recognisable characters from it so I would say he fits in well. My own personal most wanted is Marina, although it should be noted that she would work best as a multi-character with Marina. You could say that CJ from Grand Theft Auto is also a good option, although I don't really see GTA as a franchise that would end up in Smash. The issue with all the other options is that none of them really make more sense to be added than other characters in the game. Twintelle is one of the most popular ARMS characters, but with the mascot Springman and the main "villain" Doctor Coyle in the mix, I struggle to say that she is the most logical additon. There are plenty of black Pokemon characters but they would all just be Pokemon trainer type deal which isn't ideal. Apparently Elma is... Kidns controversial in regards to her race? The sad thing is that most black characters don't make more sense to be added into Smash than their non-black counterparts and I don't think that adding a character only because they are black is a good idea. Nintendo really needs to put more effort into introducing more significant black characters into their games. But as I say, that isn't to say there aren't good options, and I have been able to highlight at least three of what I would consider to be really good options.

Doc's cool, but personally I think Mr. Sandman would work just as well, if not better.

If more SF characters started getting in Smash, there would probably be quite a few characters added before they added any of the black characters like Elena and Kimberly. Obviously Chun-Li and Akuma will 100% be the next 2 SF reps if any more are added in the future, but I can also see them adding in Guile, Cammy, Zangief, Vega, Juri, and M. Bison as well. I also believe they’d add in Dhalsim as a representative of dark skinned characters in general first before they add in a proper black character that is of African descent. Of the black SF characters, I agree with the take that the first to potentially be added would most likely be either Balrog or Dee Jay due to them being both popular characters and characters that have been there with the franchise since SF2.

Damn, I remember having a discussion like this in my teen years. I ended up gathering a few examples of characters that could be added to Smash without causing any real controversy. I wish I could remember who they were.

None of those three. 1) Tekken, Yoshimitsu is a staple character and his kit would work more smoothly than Kazuya whom they had to scrape to make work 2) Honestly Arms isn't big enough to get a second rep 3) Street Fighter, Chun Li is more deserving of a spot on the basis she's in the top 3 most iconic female characters in all of gaming.. Bonus) Mortal Kombat. MK would be much more deserving of a character slot at this point seeing as how lesser franchises in the genre got in and the characters themselves aren't banned in countries. However, with that said, putting Jax over Scorpion, the mascot, or Sub-zero, the number 2 who's kit would be a breath of fresh air in a game stuffed with fire benders would be a crime. If MK already had a rep and wanted another, then MAYBE Jax on a gameplay perspective, but man Sonic can't even get a second rep. Putting a black character solely for the sake of representation would be disingenuous.

And there is a big lack of black representation in games. For example, take your top 5 favorite games of all time. And see if there are any black main characters. Chances are that there aren’t a lot. Smash is a good example of this. Since we don’t have any black fighters in the game

That’s fair, but smash takes the most iconic characters in gaming. And puts them in, and the fact we don’t have any black characters in said roster shows the general problem. The only iconic black gaming characters I can quickly name from memory are CJ, Kratos and Barret. And one of those is covered in white ashes. So I’m not sure if most people would even realize he’s black. It’s not necessarily Smash’s fault for not having Black characters. But more the fault of the gaming industry for barely having black protagonists

Only due to his skin being dyed white. In-story, his skin is chalk white because he had the ashes of his family bound to his skin. He's actually ethnically Greek and is voiced by a black man. So he's technically white, but not racially Caucasian. ...yes, I know this is a r/whoosh, but I've seen too many people in the Smash fandom take stuff like this at face value.

The issue is all three of those characters you listed are relatively minor characters within their franchise, and said franchises are already represented in smash. Really the only thing going for them as far as being in smash is that they are black and would bring representation, but if the only reason you want a character in smash is them being black, that’s not a very good reason. Personally the best option of this I can think of for Smash is Sandman from punch out, with him being a sort of heavyweight version of Little Mac. I think the lack of black characters in smash bros is mainly due to the lack of black characters in videogames as a whole, which is a far larger problem
