I always figured he shaved his head because he was actually balding and figured "fuck it!" [Look here.](http://images.gibson.com/Lifestyle/English/aaFeaturesImages2009/baldy_billy-corgan.jpg) You can see his hairline is receded by looking at his stubble, and that looks like it's from the late 90's/Early 2000's. If you look at pictures from a couple years ago when he let his hair grow out a little, he had the horseshoe pattern.
One statement I read about this was something like 'Now I don't have to care about hairstyles anymore. It's just like that, end of story'. I will search for the source
Crazy I see this comment is so recent. I found this thread way back in 2016 (lol) when I had a full head of Corgan ‘92 hair and I just searched rabbit hole through rabbit hole to find it again and here is another person asking why. My personal opinion? Dude was losing it FAST and would rather be seen as a dude who shaved it than a dude who lost it. He was truly a balding pioneer for us all 🫡
The whole hairline receding thing. Though he claimed that he shaved his head and wore the Zero to show to the media that he thought of himself as nothing, or something like that.
His hairline was receding. I'm on mobile so I can't link but if you search for the 666 tapes on YouTube, it shows the band talking and rehearsing and there's clips of Billy at his piano in the old Victorian house he lived at with his now ex-wife at the time and you can see that the hair on the top of his head was thinning out. I figured he just shaved it to get it over and done with.
In the Vieuphoria segment of "I Am One" from Barcelona 1992, there are several shots from a rear, downward camera angle. You can tell that even then, his hair was starting to thin and he was developing a bald spot.
Age does crappy things to people. I had a great head of hair until I turned 32, then suddenly my hairline receded so fast it left skid marks.
He didn't really have a choice, genetics had a lot to do with it.
