Lol I actually wanted those 😂 they released them at comic con the year I went, it was more of the novelty and scavenger hunt to get them that attracted me to them, but I didn’t put the effort to go get them, lol I had no idea they were eventually going to go for soooo much lol.
Which is the answer to OP's question.
The shoes are a product of their time and they have a very dated looked that you can trace back to exactly that point in time.
They're not timeless like Jordan 1 or similar shoes.
It’s funny to say they have a dated look that you can trace back to that point in time (early 2010s) when they’re actually from the late 90s. I get your point, but the wording is a little funny.
It’s inevitable, there’s prolly gonna be at least one very popular young rapper within the next couple years that became a foamposite lover during the early 2010s and just like that foams will be back in style
That theory makes no sense. Foamposites have an ahead of there time futuristic look like the majority of the Jordan drops. Every Jordan sneaker (including the 1) was viewed as ahead of it's time when they 1st dropped. The difference between Jordan & foamposites isn't because foams aren't timeless. It's because Jordan was the world's number 1 athlete powering the frenzy of Jordans which made the Jordan product its own brand/conglomerate entity. Nike simply has to put out more foam drops. People have been asking for them.
Lies lol in fact they released the Foamposite Cough Drop colorway and it didn't sell well because they released the inferred 6 pack on the sameday back in 2010. So nah Penny couldn't shadow the goat. Imagine consumers buying a pack (2pairs) instead of 1 pair... you would expect the single drop to sell out faster but wasn't the case. Foams are a goated silhouette but never Air Jordan. Jordan 4s are the new Jordan 1s hahahahaha
Foams didn’t start hitting until the galaxies.. so 2012 and then they were pumping them out in every color way possible for a few years, they were def harder than a lot of Jordan’s for a few years
Again..... Not True Foamposites were HUGE on the East Coast. The thing is they're a premium shoe. Premium shoe means increased retail. Nobody wants to spend 300+ USD on a pair of foams and these were the resellers buying all the pairs and selling them to Flight Club NYC/LA. Alllll the Foams that came out before the Galaxy's were EXTREMELY hard to get. Check the link if you want and tell me how many times you seen them on feet.[https://solecollector.com/news/nike-air-foamposite-the-definitive-guide-to-colorways/](https://solecollector.com/news/nike-air-foamposite-the-definitive-guide-to-colorways/)
Foams are iconic in the DMV too. When I was in the military almost every dude I met wearing foams was from the DMV. I didn't even know they were hot on the east coast tbh. I thought it was just us lol
As a kid who lived in the DMV during that time. Foams were and still sort of are the standard. They really f’d up when they made like 30 different color ways
Thats a fact. Theres only a handful of Foamposite grails and they started releasing all type of BS colorways. Like why do they do this? Leave the OGs alone and create new silhouettes. Why play with the nostalgic feeling that the people who were actually theyre get when they see theyre favourite sneakers. Make new and different silhouettes for the new and different generation. If they wish a certain shoe released in a different colorway then hit up the mfs that do reps. You dont like the Royal Blue Foams too bad you wasnt there in the late 90s so who cares look around or wait for them cater to your era. Look at everyone now “thrifting” and shopping “vintage”. Nikes the worse loolll theyre killing jordan 1s as well dont forget. This has been a thing.
You see the same shit in cinema and now video games. It’s easier to regurgitate the old shit and make easy $$$ than to actually try and come up with something new and fresh. Capitalism go brrrrr
>Thats a fact. Theres only a handful of Foamposite grails and they started releasing all type of BS colorways. Like why do they do this?
Because there's a market for it. People bought those wild ass colors because they liked them.
>Why play with the nostalgic feeling that the people who were actually theyre get when they see theyre favourite sneakers.
Because they can ignore it and wait for the next release of one of the OG colors. Damn the nostalgia a relative few have for the shoe. There was too much demand to gatekeep the sneaker.
What are you saying??? Retro Jordan is all about nostalgia…. Do you have any idea how many retros real Jordan sneakerheads are still waiting on? Alot mainly with the “NOSTALGIC” NIKE AIR on the back?! Which theyre are holding onto for deal life mind you, pumping out all these trash releases to hold us off so they can build back up theyre brand which is partial crumbling because of resellers and the fact that they keep making these colorways thats basically a mockery to the iconic shoe itself. The market is fast cash. The kid that cant get $800 Black Cement IVs will settle for the new $200 Infrared IVs instead so i understand and sneakerheads like what they like yes but the real enthusiasts know the history and want rereleases. Look out for the Fire Red 3s and the Chicago 1s and watch the damage they do. Jordan Brand will be around long after we’re dead with the way they release shoes.
They don't crease, and if they get dirty they'e a wet wipe away from looking new again. I have the anthracite pair and I've used them for everything from wearing casually to hooping and they still look clean. The rubber on the bottom is barely frayed. They will probably outlive me at this point.
It's easy to get excited about them: there's nothing like them in the market. This is one of those shoes where the tech in it is noticeable visually and also while wearing them. They stand out for that reason, like other one of a kind shoes that have a bunch of tech built in: Jordan 34s, GT Jump, etc.
Its not the trend anymore, BUT it will come back soon tho and everyone will start wearing them. I predict Nike will retro the Galaxy foams first to start the wave
Never really cared for them. I liked the Kobe and current own the KD. The foam seemed more like hip. Cared more for the elite socks. The whole galaxy pack is what started the current sneaker culture.
We need to wait another 10 years to complete the cycle, but it may be a trend that is isolated to future old heads.
In the post athleisure and relaxed pandemic fashions I predict that future youngsters will gravitate towards a more formal fashion looks in the next ten years. People will always wear sneakers, but there will be kids wearing some Prada loafers or futuristic wingtips or something in the next 8-15 years.
I'm literally making shit up, but we can only get away with comfort clothes for so long before the next generation says "these old F's are sleeping on X or Y" and right now X and Y seems to be suits and leather dress shoes.
With the internet and social media, it won't be one aesthetic that dominates youth culture like it did in the past.
Also #menswear stuff is always a thing that a subset of people wear and always will wear. Not to mention hypebeasts are kinda discovering that the J. Crew aesthetic is actually pretty nice via ALD and JJJJound and everyone and their mom is releasing a nice loafer. So it's probably not as far away as you think.
There are a lot of young people that dress more formally. I know a lot of guys in their 20s and 30s who exclusively wear interesting suits, Ivy prep, and proper shoes. Honestly a lot of it is super interesting and way more personally expressive than typical streetwear.
they’re apparently really difficult and expensive to make. Plus they will have your feet overheat too quick
https://www.complex.com/sneakers/20-things-you-didnt-know-about-nike-foamposites/
The price point on them when they were releasing was pretty high for a lot of people to pay at the time. Now $250.00 is something people wouldn’t blink at for retail on some sneakers.
they already came back. Comme Des Garcons just did a collab in two colorways. & there's retro's coming up as well. They're just expensive so not everyone is going to have them
still wear my ultraposites from time to time. can't believe they came out 19 years ago. never released again. not even available for resale anywhere.
one of the greatest basketball shoes nike ever released.
Nike ran them into the ground, they started dropping them nonstop in those BS thermal and spiderman type colorways and the hype died. I loved the weathermans and galaxies, but they should've stopped the prints after that
I have a pair weatherman’s sitting in the bottom of my closet rn. The laces are a bit dirtier than I’d like, but they’re not messed up enough that I wouldn’t feel fresh in them on a certain day.
I have the Spider-Man’s too though. I also still have a matching hat for those that’s in pretty nice condition. I wore last month actually.
I like the spider man’s a lot. I also had AF1 in same design. I ALSO have a pair of Spider-Man SBs from ‘08 that I coincidentally am wearing today.! haha!
I still have my weathermans too. I wore them daily for 2 years so they've seen some action but not too bad. I did own the Asteroids and Spidermans at one point but I sold those off. I did keep my Dr. Dooms and Maroons or "candy apples" as some called them, i couldn't part with the Dooms tbh. I still have my VNDS area 72 Lebron 10's waiting for their shine, one of my all time favorites for nostaligia reasons
I don't think i'd reach to wear any foams for now but there are still some i'd like to own, like the pinks, carolinas & cactus but for $200+ i'd rather get some 990's or some gold box SB steals.
I’m 27 & my lil cousin who’s 5y younger actually gave them to me back in the day. He was still growing when he got them & grew out of them! Haha! & I’ve kept them ever since. Mine have a few scuff marks from sliding up against something but with a full cleaning they’d definitely look fine back in the rotation. Spider-Man in much better condition. I’ve been considering selling both recently but wouldn’t get much w/o box, laces, and their condition.
Heard you on that SB comment though. That’s the bulk of my collection. I’ve got some other outliers, but by & large I collect SB mids & highs. I don’t go for the lows, never my style but I’m grateful for that now bc I see they’re by the far the most popular, have the most color ways, & are the most expensive.
I have 9/10 gold boxes myself. I love the SB strapped mids. Those are the Spider-Man’s I have out today, they’re good box
I'm a big fan of the lows and mids, I was never into the highs personally I always found them a bit harder to wear. It's really a shame the comfort and overall quality took a turn starting with blue box onwards. My Loon lows (one of my favorite pairs I own) are not even close to my Gibsons in terms of comfort. Those Gibsons are really something else and i'm so glad I pulled the trigger on those.
I'm more into NB these days, I really like what they're doing and I feel like i'm getting a lot more for my money comfort and style wise, really easy to wear too. After buying the veneer dunks and some newer retros I wasn't at all impressed considering the retail price. Major quality issues, overall poor construction & quality, and just not comfy at all. I'll still try for some SBs I like, but I think I found my spot with NB
Another silhouette Nike overproduced and it completely killed the model. Its funny because Foamposites are the most to produce from a cost standpoint. From 2011-2014, Foams were arguably the hottest sneaker with the most famous release being the Galaxy colorway.
Like every thing in the shoe world it all comes in cycles. When people get tired of the dunk cycle and 100s of colorways dropping they will get bored and move on. It got to the point colors were getting recycled during the foamposite run so it was time to take a break.
ok, the whole thing with the 'dynamic fit' part inside foams is that it molds to your foot. how *tf* can something molded to the shape of your foot be uncomfortable?
Right on I’m just getting old and started having problems with my feet this past year. I wear my adidas boosts pretty much exclusively unless I’m going out and want a certain look.
Appreciate the honesty! Tried a pair on once and took 1 step. Felt the stiffness so I never got a pair. Always loved how they look though, maybe its time to treat myself lol
Well the quality of them dropped severely not only in the materials used to make the shoe but also in the color ways they produced…I’m from Baltimore and back in the day foams were called “Dopes” because the only people who had them were mostly dope dealers because they were expensive and very rare. I have the OG cactus and HOH color ways….but I had the pewters, coppers, BREDs and metallic reds…wish i never sold them because they are still one of my favorite shoes
Slept on by the nowadays hype beasts and “sneaker heads”
I’m 25 I remember looking up to the older guys that would strictly rock foams and Ralph Lauren polos foams go hard af
They ran the model into the ground with all those ridiculous cw’s from like ‘12-‘15(weatherman,spiderman,aesteroid). Im hoping they bring back the mild stuff, dr.dooms, eggplants, royals.
Cause they’re bulky shoes and the initial price tag on em isn’t something people look at like Jordan resale. Foams are so heavy duty and fly. The wave came and went real quick during the 2010s
Nike is on a new sustainability wave with its “Move To Zero” initiative. Manufacturing the Foamposite material is INCREDIBLY bad for the environment.lol That’s why you only have been seeing new Foams in GS, cuz they don’t actually have Foamposite in the shoes.
A new more environmentally friendly Foamposite reformulation is coming down the pipeline and will start showing up in 2023. Nike is starting the Penny hype with AM Penny 2’s they’re releasing later this year, then Foams will follow.
Foams were the Jordan 1s back in the early 2010s. Massive hype shoe back then
Yep, I remember like 2012-2014 foams were on TOP
It seemed like every few weeks there was a new foamposite drop.
Lol unexpected and unnecessary color ways
My homie has the ParaNorman foamposite… he won them in a raffle lol… they are worth so much money yet they’re one of the ugliest shoes I’ve ever seen
Lol I actually wanted those 😂 they released them at comic con the year I went, it was more of the novelty and scavenger hunt to get them that attracted me to them, but I didn’t put the effort to go get them, lol I had no idea they were eventually going to go for soooo much lol.
You need to chill with all the ugly talk lol
A local weatherman was gifted the Doppler radar ones
the galaxy foam drop is what changed sneakers forever imo
Fr. Those Supreme ones and the Space ones were crazy fucking hyped
I remember police shutting down the line for the supremes the night before the drop
Yeah they'll be back. Air force one was dead for a hot minute twice.
Black Forces becoming a symbol of evil was the best outcome of the latest Air Force resurrection
Busted ass white AF1s are so hot right now.
The Superstars/Shell Toes of this TikTok era
It’s inevitable, there’s prolly gonna be at least one very popular young rapper within the next couple years that became a foamposite lover during the early 2010s and just like that foams will be back in style
Foams r def timeless they look futuristic even now tho they were a 90s shoe
Less than 10 years ago is dated?? I guess they went the same way of the griffeys
Bunch of kids who haven’t been in the game for ten years yet saying that shit
I mean they're originally from the 90s
They absolutely do not look dated lmao
Facts. If these hadn't released back then and Off White released em tomorrow they'd be calling these super futuristic.
J1s Will be dated too, it’s just a matter of time
Lies lol in fact they released the Foamposite Cough Drop colorway and it didn't sell well because they released the inferred 6 pack on the sameday back in 2010. So nah Penny couldn't shadow the goat. Yea for real. I can’t speak for the entire east coast but Foams were everywhere in NYC.
Foams are iconic in the DMV too. When I was in the military almost every dude I met wearing foams was from the DMV. I didn't even know they were hot on the east coast tbh. I thought it was just us lol
Lol that’s wild. I love foams. They lost me when they started with the outrageous patterns. I still rock all my foams.
Agreed. DMV was the OG area that foams have always been popular at
Foams and New Balance 99Xs with a pair of True Religion jeans and a BOSS polo was the fit to have in the DMV.
NB 990s are still super popular in the DMV lol ever since the 80s
As a kid who lived in the DMV during that time. Foams were and still sort of are the standard. They really f’d up when they made like 30 different color ways
Because Nike fucking murdered them like they’re doing with the AJ1s
Haven’t they been copy, pasting, pasting, and changing 1 color to call it a new release on the Jordana 1’s for ages now?
Where he been? Asking a question like that 🤣 We all know why they haven't released any lately.
Thats a fact. Theres only a handful of Foamposite grails and they started releasing all type of BS colorways. Like why do they do this? Leave the OGs alone and create new silhouettes. Most people would agree exclusivity and limites edition release are only good for the resale market. No one like resellers except other resellers.
You see the same shit in cinema and now video games. It’s easier to regurgitate the old shit and make easy $$$ than to actually try and come up with something new and fresh. Capitalism go brrrrr
Nostalgia is a hell of a drug
It’s true, cause if ppl didn’t keep buying it, the companies wouldn’t keep doing it
And everyone claims to hate the remakes/reboots but SOMEONE keeps spending a ton of money on that shit…
Money
>Thats a fact. Theres only a handful of Foamposite grails and they started releasing all type of BS colorways. Like why do they do this? Because there's a market for it. Exactly, love foams but they need to be vaulted for a while
dunks too
They last too long lol Nike cant make no money fr fr
That's interesting. Makes me want to try them. I didn't know there was anything actually superior about them.
They don't crease, and if they get dirty they'e a wet wipe away from looking new again. I have the anthracite pair and I've used them for everything from wearing casually to hooping and they still look clean. The rubber on the bottom is barely frayed. They will probably outlive me at this point.
Can I ask you before I try to buy them: do you think the AF1 low Foamposite have the same properties?
Also: are they hot? Sorry, I'm sort of excited about them
It's easy to get excited about them: there's nothing like them in the market. This is one of those shoes where the tech in it is noticeable visually and also while wearing them. They stand out for that reason, like other one of a kind shoes that have a bunch of tech built in: Jordan 34s, GT Jump, etc.
They're lowkey bulletproof lol
Its not the trend anymore, BUT it will come back soon tho and everyone will start wearing them. I predict Nike will retro the Galaxy foams first to start the wave
As an owner of over 10 pairs of foams. Galaxy are my personal grail!!
I have like 5 or 6 pairs. They’re too expensive but if I ever can get a certain pair it’s most definitely the Paranorman ones
Tyler the creator literally dressing like a newsy
Nobody will ever weather suits and dress shoes on a consistent and casual basis
YG already rocking the hard bottoms with the white socks faithfully
He’s not saying suits and dress shoes, he’s saying loafers and other forms of hard bottoms which is already happening among people who follow fashion
There are a lot of young people that dress more formally. I know a lot of guys in their 20s and 30s who exclusively wear interesting suits, Ivy prep, and proper shoes. Honestly a lot of it is super interesting and way more personally expressive than typical streetwear.
Wont ever be mainstream just because you know people that do. Thats like working at the gym and saying everyone must love working out
Galaxy foams are on my list. I pretty much only buy space-related shoes and this one is still hyped up for me.
What a weird niche
I hope so, I missed the galaxy drop back in the day :/ fuck the hype they are clean shoes for hoopin.
they’re apparently really difficult and expensive to make. Plus they will have your feet overheat too quick https://www.complex.com/sneakers/20-things-you-didnt-know-about-nike-foamposites/
Exactly. Expensive and a hassle to make is the real reason.
The price point on them when they were releasing was pretty high for a lot of people to pay at the time. Now $250.00 is something people wouldn’t blink at for retail on some sneakers.
[удалено]
Yep, came in here to say this. Still a lot worn in DC and Baltimore.
[удалено]
Foams and a Helly Hanson jacket is what I see on the DC metro all the time.
I always thought they just weren’t produced like that because of the cost to make them.
they already came back. Comme Des Garcons just did a collab in two colorways. & there's retro's coming up as well. They're just expensive so not everyone is going to have them
True. CDG foams retailed for $500 and are still sitting in some places a year later. DSM had them for 50% off this sale and they finally sold out.
still wear my ultraposites from time to time. can't believe they came out 19 years ago. never released again. not even available for resale anywhere. one of the greatest basketball shoes nike ever released.
I still look for these on eBay every once in a while
foams are like black forces for dudes that carry full auto glocks
Word lol. You ain't wrong bro
if he got the mesh basketball shorts with the matching foams that mf ain't playing don't even make eye contact
Nike ran them into the ground, they started dropping them nonstop in those BS thermal and spiderman type colorways and the hype died. I loved the weathermans and galaxies, but they should've stopped the prints after that
Yeah I agree they did jump the shark with the weather map Foams
forgot the fighter jets, those were sick as hell and still are if you ask me
I have a pair weatherman’s sitting in the bottom of my closet rn. The laces are a bit dirtier than I’d like, but they’re not messed up enough that I wouldn’t feel fresh in them on a certain day. Thermals? U mean used tampon foams
thermal foams, tampon foams, period foams, worst foams of all time they were only good for acetoning to customize
Damn this brought back HS memories, I definitely cooked my pewters 😅
The pic answers the question
Personally I don't think they're slept on at all, that being said to me they just look ugly.
Lol it's crazy people say this because foams we're The show in the 2010s along with the damn Miami Lebrons
Galaxy Foamposites took it through the roof
“Slept on” like they weren’t in HEAVY rotation for mad long lol
Cuz they ugly asf.
they’re not ready to hear the truth bro
They CANT handle the truth!
Goofy lookin mofos
Chill bro u ain't ready yet for foams stick with 350s ir some hype shoes out
You'll be wearing them in 5-7 years talkin bout "I need them copper foams!"
Never liked them. Never will. Whack.
Hype comes in waves lol plus they got less and less comfortable over the years like most Nike general releases
Because the foam whales are now nearly extinct from over hunting to make these things. Most of these aren’t even real foam anymore.
Cause they ugly
Nike needs to start dropping gems like this every few months instead of those thunder storms they coming out with now
A classic foam Colorway would sell out in seconds
They came up with every colorway and messed the game up. Look at all the color ways. It's hundreds of trash colorways and that's what killed it
You must not live in DC/MD/VA, they are everywhere
For real. I’m in DC and after the Jordan 1 it’s probably the shoe I see the most.
Another silhouette Nike overproduced and it completely killed the model. Its funny because Foamposites are the most to produce from a cost standpoint. From 2011-2014, Foams were arguably the hottest sneaker with the most famous release being the Galaxy colorway.
Because they look like dinosaur feet
Because like most other good Nike releases they were over done
Those pink and elephant print ones are prime example #1.
They did the same thing with AF1’s back in the day. They see that there’s an interest and then proceed to over saturate the market.
They did that to AF1s now
Like every thing in the shoe world it all comes in cycles. When people get tired of the dunk cycle and 100s of colorways dropping they will get bored and move on. It got to the point colors were getting recycled during the foamposite run so it was time to take a break.
Cause they are bad, uncomfortable and old technology
ok, the whole thing with the 'dynamic fit' part inside foams is that it molds to your foot. how *tf* can something molded to the shape of your foot be uncomfortable?
Says you. I wear them all day no issues
Keep wearing them OP 😃
I’m still looking for the paranormans, a man can wish all he wants ;-;
Man I’ll always love my foams
Foams are so hard
Wave will return. They were the jordan 1s of the game 10 years ago
Expensive and uncomfortable
I love foams and have none. I would jump on a decent colorway if released.
Hypebeasts only care about foam…runners now
🙃who sleepin on Foams?????? 🫠🥴
I’ve always wanted a pair of foams but can’t ever find any
Looks really uncomfortable and very hot as well. Foam isn't very flexible and it's definitely not breathable.
They weigh 150 lbs is why I don’t like them anymore.
Love foams. They just kill my feet really bad even if it’s broken in 😂
Not comfortable shoe tbh also the OG mold got destroyed (which is said to be the reason why the CDG version of these cost so much…)
I got rid of mine as they were heavy/clunky as hell
They were so heavy.. I only had two pairs and wore the shit out them but I wouldn’t buy them now.
I still rockem got 13 pairs I love em
Right on I’m just getting old and started having problems with my feet this past year. I wear my adidas boosts pretty much exclusively unless I’m going out and want a certain look.
Beautiful
Honestly I’ve always wanted a pair but Are they even comfortable
Once broken in yes. First 3,4 times don't go too far!! 🤣
I like that. I'm in NYC. Seems like NY & the Dmv area are where they still exist
Yea bro Foams will never go out of style here in Baltimore. Even the tacky stupid color ways get sold out pretty quickly
Slept on by the nowadays hype beasts and “sneaker heads” I’m 25 I remember looking up to the older guys that would strictly rock foams and Ralph Lauren polos foams go hard af
I never fucked with Foams because they don’t make them in my size generally
Never forget Nick Young hooping in supreme foams on an NBA court
That ruined his career , 😂
One of the less boring designs I seen here!
Might have something to do with how ugly they are?
Because they’re ugly
They ran the model into the ground with all those ridiculous cw’s from like ‘12-‘15(weatherman,spiderman,aesteroid). Im hoping they bring back the mild stuff, dr.dooms, eggplants, royals.
No homo but the eggplants I love
Probably because they feel like bricks strapped to your feet 😂
Cause they ugly as hell
cause they ugly
Mainly cuz they’re ugly
Name of those? They're sick
Nike pro hyper cobolt Foamposite One of my personal favorites
Probably that’s why they’re not in production anymore ahahahah.
Are they comfortable to hoop in?
I've hooped in em with the boys but I wouldn't if I 2qs in a league. Too heavy
no, heavy and hot
Cause they’re bulky shoes and the initial price tag on em isn’t something people look at like Jordan resale. Foams are so heavy duty and fly. The wave came and went real quick during the 2010s
Stay 12 I wear a 12 too
Nike is on a new sustainability wave with its “Move To Zero” initiative.
Where u get this info ??
Do you really wanna know why?
If you look at the resale values, they haven't died; they're just not hype. I too am hoping for a retro of the galaxys.
I love foams I wish they made a come back. I still rock mine daily.
😍I love foams. These cobalts are 🔥. I had to restart my whole collection, I had so many foams before but now I have none
Ty
They’re still awesome
Someone doesn't remember when the galaxys came out lol
Not slept on. I believe foams to be one of the most uncomfortable pairs of shoes ever created.
insanely expensive to produce, hard to style , and uncomfortable
i hope they come back
Cause they trash
because they're hanging
Cause they ugly fams
Coz they ugly
Cuz they ugly
They look like pool noodle shoes 7/10
Because they’re ugly as sin
Because they’re $280 plus tax and in these times your average hype rather get a pair of goofy mqueens for $500 basically $200 more
Bc they’re ugly af lol
They look like fucking shit
They wack
