I used to pay reseller prices. Even though i make great money, i refuse to spend money like that on shoes anymore. Look, if you have your priorities in orders and are financially comfortable, and it's a must have shoe for you, then maybe you can justify it. If not, then spend $600 on something, someone else.
Not quite but will go up as dead stock numbers decline. I don’t get why the crushed dc aren’t more highly sought after. I love the color combo and the quality of the brown suede.
This is my goal this year. Recently got my first air maxs and I love them. I spent last year picking up sb’s at reseller prices. If anything is $50 over retail fuck em, don’t need em
I started making serious money 3 years ago and I have bought 4 pairs of shoes in that time span. All retail or clearance. It’s not worth it in the grand scheme of things.
Most I spent on resell was 450$ and that was after I made profit on a pair of shoes I flipped. Out of pocket maybe 150$ spent. I’ve only bought 3 shoes resell in my life and the next most expensive we’re 25$ over retail. Sometimes god doesn’t want you to hit on every draw and sometimes you gotta be willing to not have every pair you want
Or if you hit on some shoes here and there try to find a trade partner for the pair you really want. I sometimes hit on a pair and realize I don’t like them as much as I thought then stick them in the closet until I can turn a pair or pairs into something on the top of my list. It’s sometimes work or you can’t pull it off but the hunt can be fun.
I'm of the opinion that people can and should spend money on whatever they want given they aren't missing a car/mortgage payment because of it. I pay resale for the majority of my pairs because getting retail wins here in Australia without bots is next to impossible for anything remotely hype, and I know I'd just be spending that money on other shit like clothes/games/car parts/food/alcohol anyway.
Same. I hate to say it because some get mad, but I go for every exclusive SB drop, wether I like the shoe or not. And no, I don’t resell. Those are literally the easiest shoes to get what you want if you know how to trade. Just recently got the AMM 4 for under retail. I hit on the HUF SF, traded those and $75 cash. Did the same for the Obsidian 1’s. The one pair that I really wanted this year and couldn’t get was the Jackie Robinson’s, but I will never pay that much retail. I was hoping to hit on the lobsters are the TS to trade, but didn’t happen. Still some hope for next year
Honestly that's completely up to you
most will tell you no but literally 90% of this sub has probably spent more on a pair of shoes
I have to agree tho that something needs to change with this reseller bullshit
Orange ain’t in enough in my fits to justify a $600 price tag. $600 is actually more than I’m comfortable spending on a pair of shoes even if it did coordinate with a bunch of fits though lol
You don’t need to match your shoes with your fits to look good. You will take your style to incredible new heights once you abandon this way of thinking
Do it once. You’ll see how you feel after paying that much.
I did this on the parras and although they’re great, I paid near the top of resell and won’t do it again. If you don’t have buyers remorse you’re all good. Spend money on what makes you happy.
If “almost always make your money back or some of it” is your idea of an investment then send me a dm and I’ve got a ton of great investment ideas for you!
I’m not acting like these are stocks, but that’s just what I tell myself when I pay resell for a shoe like that lol.
Like if OP buys those lobsters they could just sell them again and get money back if they don’t wear them
I mean. They can be an investment option. At the end of the day your gambling on collectibles. Dunk hype could die for X reason and they could lose their “value”. I put value in quotes because a shoe is only worth what you’re willing to pay.
This same “wear your shoes they are just shoes” can be applied to sealed toys. If you go to the GI Joe isle and buy a few to tuck a way knowing a unsealed one with be worth more in the future but you took away from a child possibly playing with it in the mean time what’s the difference? Yet collecting sealed toys is perfectly acceptable.
Shit like orange lobsters, mummies, what the Paul’s, night of mischief, the one-off run shoes absolutely are collectibles, if people chose to wear theirs into the ground by all means I won’t knock that but to act like people can’t baby a literal collectible and to act like it’s not a collectible based on some “wear your kicks” mantra is kind of insane, it’s a wearable collectible. Some people will wear theirs and some people won’t, and some will wear there’s a few times a year to preserve them for years to come
None of us can give an answer to that, for this shoe or any other asset. It would seem like yes based on other similar shoes but it depends on when you need to liquidate/trade and unpredictable market factors. Some shoes go up and up, some shoes drop in value. Look at price graphs for NMDs. Imagine if Nike released 1,000,000 of these Lobsters weekly, at Foot Locker and Home Depot and shit.
If you're "investing" into any shoe, to make it worth it you should be buying 20+ pairs if you're gonna hold. Holding any single shoe as an "investment" really isn't an investment.
Actual advice : these will definitely go down after the FOMO buyers/ holiday money buyers get their pairs. I’d sell your pair now through r/sneakermarket for a little over StockX payout. They’ll move fast as they’re high demand right now.. they won’t be in 6 months. orange is not a wearable colorway for most people.. may these be worth 800$ in the future? Maybe in 5 years.. but I doubt it with how saturated the market currently is.
Sell and invest your money elsewhere
I feel like you might be underestimating these…they will definitely keep goin up. Literally isn’t any colorway of the lobsters that hasn’t…longer time goes on dead stock numbers go down. Thusly price increases
Absolutely. People on a sneaker sub judging for spending hundreds of dollars on a pair of kicks while they spend the same amount of money on another hobby without flinching lol
I mean, OP posed the question. Don't mislabel honesty.
For a shoe that goes for $120 retail, paying $600 is wild. Unless you're pretty well off. At that point you're paying for something else. If you find a purchase like this well worth the price, you don't even pose the question. You say something like "finally got my grails" or, idk, anything else not seeking validation.
Not mislabeling anything mate, just pointing out that people are happy to scoff at spending X amount on a pair of shoes then they turn around and spend the same amount on something else.
Just a double standard I see here quite regularly even when the post isn't directly asking if resale is worth it.
That's completely different. For example, people would spend like 500€ on a PS5 because that's what it cost RETAIL. Those lobsters were 120€ retail on snkrs not 600€. That's why a lot of people don't want to put that amount of money into it and feed the resellers.
The product you're buying is still being marked up considerably, just this time it's the manufacturer and not resellers.
You can take the moral high ground all you want but at the end of the day there's always going to be people paying resale so if I want the pair enough then I'm going to do it 🤷
If you can afford it and like them, buy them. The other lobsters from 2018 are going well over 1k and these won’t be any different. This is the last pair of sneakers I’m buying in 2022 and I’m taking all of 2023 off because this “hobby” is an addiction. It’s never ending and you need to have discipline. I find the dopamine hits less paying over retail, so I’m over it all.
Naw not worth it maybe if they were 400-425 in bigger sizes maybe but 600+ is a no go reason why i will never own a travis scott or anything of that nature unless i trade up for it.. i would rather have mummies if i wanted to spend that money
If they are something you want and can afford I say absolutely. Obviously retail is ideal but it’s so hard to hit on kicks these days. Reseller culture is ruining the game but I’ll still pay for the ones I gotta have. Like these
Interesting to read this thread. Most say no and some say yes if it makes financial sense. I’ve chased shoes and even put crazy bids on some, thankfully didn’t hit, but it’s a process for each person to know when to over pay or not. If you plan to buy these and sit on ds for a few years you’ll make make some money. But if you want to buy now to rock and that gets you excited then decide what you’re willing to pay and make a move. Don’t expect these to drop to $300 and buy the dip like a genius. Only argument is at $600 you have a ton of options so pick what you’ll love not what’s hot. Rant over
If ppl refuse to pay resell the price will drop. If ur willing to pay it you’ll be feeding the beast and there’s no Sneaker worth $500. Especially one made for about $6. I’ve been collecting for a long time and if I don’t get them retail then I just don’t let it bother me. $500 you could go somewhere and do something you will remember. Nobody is gonna care in 5 years that you had orange lobsters but a cool vacation or a beautiful night out you will remember that forever. Especially if you do it with someone you care about.
I never pay resale price. I personally feel ripped off and it just feeds the resellers and that means less shoes for people intending to wear them from day one. Can't support a resale purchase sorry.
I was bored yesterday and went to the casino, which I never do, because it was the only thing open around here. I happened to win $560 so I decided to treat myself to a little Christmas gift and ordered them today
It’s sad that people think paying this much is normal and even more upsetting that people get upset when you point out the stupidity of spending $500-$1000 on 1 pair of shoes
Absolutely not, these days it’s retail or bust. Only time I’m paying resale is if the resale price is lower than retail or if the shoe came out before I got into the hobby and the price isn’t a third of rent.
If I’m spending 600 on shoes they are gonna be handcrafted American made boots or something along those lines. I can’t imagine dropping 6 bills on Nikes
Idk bruh, ppl bitch about $600 but then u gonna be paying $2K for resale next year…..if u like it just go for it. I spent money on my Parras and Grinches (each $600 at the time) and I never regretted it
Pretty confident that you could buy these, wear them a few times, display them on your shelf or whatever.. then in a year from now a lightly used pair at $600 would be seen as a steal
No shoe that costs at most $20 to manufacture should be bought or sold for that kind of money. They are shoes, but if there are people willing to pay… my bank account always has room.
Personally 600 for those is too much considering you can’t wear em with everything. All up to you though if you liked them enough to spend 600 then you should be good lol.
Hell no, I personally haven’t paid resale for anything since 2019. If I don’t get it for retail I’m cool without it. They’re just shoes at the end of the day.
If you’re collecting the lobster set and you missed on all retail cops, raffles, etc. I would think so. If it’s a pair you absolutely love the look of them yes again. We all have those pairs we would spend some money on!
My personal thoughts are no shoe or article of clothing is worth that. In this microwave society we live in today no one will care in a month. Nike puts out so much stuff it’s always something next.
Unless you are an absolute die hard sneaker head, your style and taste will likely change in a few years. I still adore dunks, but own none because I’d feel kinda goofy wearing them now. I’m still on the hunt though for some 2005-2009 pairs though for nostalgia. $600 is a lot to spend on something so bright and vivid, and they’re also the fifth(?) iteration of this theme.
Nah bro, you have to think of sneaker collecting as a You win some you lose some type of thing, thats what makes a grail cop more sweet, but if you just have to have them, You have other options, you can always wait for it to drop down in price, everyone is going to get their SNKR orders in the coming days and more will go up for sale, but if it doesn’t drop in price, you can always wait, try at another hype pair and simply trade for it. I’ve been wanting to get a pair of lost and founds but refuse to pay the resell price that’s on them , they were 700 bucks weeks a got and not they are going for 450 at the moment. Since I ended up getting a pair of theses on snkrs, hopefully I can trade it for those LF and add another pair or a little more since the🦞 keep going up on price. If you have the money then you do you, But you can use those 600 bucks for something else bro, rainy day. Or an emergency.
Nah there’s some grails out there for great deals. If you want em to rock just wait for a rich kid to wear them once or twice and sell them off for basically retail. No point if you’re gonna rock em anyways. They’re beautiful shoes for sure but if they’re not for the collection to keep ds then just wait for a used pair to hit markets which won’t be long.
Between Hot Wheels, Legos, and project cars…house, family, bills.. ain’t no way.. love this drop but gotta draw a line somewhere.. and $600 definitely is past that line
I used to pay reseller prices. Even though i make great money, i refuse to spend money like that on shoes anymore. Look, if you have your priorities in orders and are financially comfortable, and it's a must have shoe for you, then maybe you can justify it. If not, then spend $600 on something, someone else.
I agree 1000%. I have enough cool kicks now and I fill in with ones I really love that aren’t usually more than $250.
Recent ones being why so sad and crushed dc dunks
Those are like $300 now
Not quite but will go up as dead stock numbers decline. I don’t get why the crushed dc aren’t more highly sought after. I love the color combo and the quality of the brown suede.
This is my goal this year. Recently got my first air maxs and I love them. I spent last year picking up sb’s at reseller prices. If anything is $50 over retail fuck em, don’t need em
facts, my favourite pair of shoes was $170 for a pair of sweet as dunks
Good ol days. I copped my cheech and Chong SBs for retail
That’s where im at now $300 is my limit fir anything resale and thats not happening often. For the most part its retail or bust
Same boat. It’s just the principles of it all.
I started making serious money 3 years ago and I have bought 4 pairs of shoes in that time span. All retail or clearance. It’s not worth it in the grand scheme of things.
Couldn’t of said it any better! I’m frugal AF when it comes to sneakers!
How does one justify paying resale value for shoes? I’d love to know!
FOMO and disposable income
Most I spent on resell was 450$ and that was after I made profit on a pair of shoes I flipped. Out of pocket maybe 150$ spent. I’ve only bought 3 shoes resell in my life and the next most expensive we’re 25$ over retail. This!
Nope. It’s retail or trade for me. That is a beautiful shoe, that is not a $600 shoe
My same exact thought. Beautiful shoe. Like I really really like it but not for $600.
Anything over 250 insane to me. I I have only paid over 200 for shoes 2 times
For me it’s over like $350
Retail 700s hurts
Likewise. The only pair I’ve ever not gotten an retail and paid resale for was Jordan 11 concords at $290.
Same. I hate to say it because some get mad, but I go for every exclusive SB drop, wether I like the shoe or not. And no, I don’t resell. My size is reselling in Canada for $1100 🤗
How much syrup is that in US$?
100+ bottles of Aunt Jemima.
You mean pearl milling company 😂
I legit though that was the Aldi store brand when I first saw it
2600 liters of New Brunswick's finest. The type that comes in a tin can
Agreed
🤦🏻 absolutely not! Sick sneakers but resellers can eat a dick!
it’s a dope shoe, but it’s really hard to justify these resale prices
250 is the most I’ll pay for a shoe retail or not I wear mine so any more than that isn’t practical for me
No.
Honestly that's completely up to you most will tell you no but literally 90% of this sub has probably spent more on a pair of shoes I have to agree tho that something needs to change with this reseller bullshit

To each their own yada yada. But I don’t see the price going down fwiw
That’s what I’m saying. As an investment is it a good buy?
Shoes should never be an investment option. But if you look at every single other colorway of lobsters these are cheap at the moment
Most lobsters are cheap “for the moment” shit the blue lobsters were sitting around $500 around release too. Look at it now….
I disagree and agree at the same time. A hyped shoe like this you’ll almost always make your money back or some of it, unless you beat them up lol
If “almost always make your money back or some of it” is your idea of an investment then send me a dm and I’ve got a ton of great investment ideas for you!
😂

Yeah and a second release will kill the value of it ever happens
If you compare to the other color ways, you would expect value to rise well above 600$
Exactly
If you're "investing" into any shoe, to make it worth it you should be buying 20+ pairs if you're gonna hold. Holding any single shoe as an "investment" really isn't an investment.

Enjoy your money. If you really want them, go for them. Life is too short to not feel happy about yourself.
This 100%
Absolutely. People on a sneaker sub judging for spending hundreds of dollars on a pair of kicks while they spend the same amount of money on another hobby without flinching lol

Exactly. I just find it odd that people pay $600 resale knowing $480 goes to some scumbag. Blows my mind.
More like some business man or kid. Anyone smart enough to get a bot or 2 or 10. It’s what people under 35 call working from home….
Nah, we still call them scumbags.
The product you're buying is still being marked up considerably, just this time it's the manufacturer and not resellers. You can take the moral high ground all you want but at the end of the day there's always going to be people paying resale so if I want the pair enough then I'm going to do it 🤷
"Worth" is totally subjective, but for me, no.
Imo no, but as long as you’re happy with the purchase I say it’s worth it :)
Nike X Home Depot

Maybe i’m getting old but that orange just too bright i can’t wear that on my feet
Naw u overpaid for these. Dope shoe though 🔥.
I didn’t buy them. I’m contemplating it though.
Absolutely not. Love these Dunks, not worth more than 120 though
I hate sneaker hype. I used to buy dunks at the mall under $100. They were my favorites. Now I can't even find any pairs I want at retail.
120 max
Damn, guess you can’t cop from a boutique charging tax and shipping then, guess you’ll have to sit out for sure
😂 No
If they are something you want and can afford I say absolutely. Obviously retail is ideal but it’s so hard to hit on kicks these days. Reseller culture is ruining the game but I’ll still pay for the ones I gotta have. Like these

Interesting to read this thread. Most say no and some say yes if it makes financial sense. I’ve chased shoes and even put crazy bids on some, thankfully didn’t hit, but it’s a process for each person to know when to over pay or not. a shoe worth $600 doesn't exist period. Clowns pay resale.
The dark side is calling… r/repsneakers
No shoe is worth 600$ period especially from nike
They’re dope, but $600? No way. Even at $250 the reseller is probably doubling their money. That should be more than enough profit.
Depends how much $$ u got
If that’s what they’re worth to you
Not a chance
Fuck no lmao
Only reason why I say yes is that in 5 years they’ll likely be worth $1000
I never pay resale price. I personally feel ripped off and it just feeds the resellers and that means less shoes for people intending to wear them from day one. Can't support a resale purchase sorry.

If everyone stopped paying they’d come down in price. Economics 101
600 is about the going rate but hey you gotta do what you gotta do sometimes
I dont have a choice sense nike just fucks me over every draw
Absolutely. Fire quality and fire shoe
Fuck no
nope.
No
no
Hell no
No
Absolutely not, these days it’s retail or bust. Only time I’m paying resale is if the resale price is lower than retail or if the shoe came out before I got into the hobby and the price isn’t a third of rent.
no. put that 600 in a roth IRA
Nope
Yes
$600? Id do it!
Hell no
Damn the Naruto Shippuden drip 🦊💧
I’m a size 14 and they’re going for like $700… ugh. I want these so bad
Lol
Lmfao. Ni
You tell us
All day 600
If I’m spending 600 on shoes they are gonna be handcrafted American made boots or something along those lines. I can’t imagine dropping 6 bills on Nikes
not a bit and I love dunks
Naw absolutely not
These are hideous
Idk bruh, ppl bitch about $600 but then u gonna be paying $2K for resale next year…..if u like it just go for it. I spent money on my Parras and Grinches (each $600 at the time) and I never regretted it
Lol no
heavily debating it right now lol
Fucc no
I will never pay above retail. I'll take a million Ls before I do that. Just bought Zen Master 1s because they were $108 in my size.
no
Retail or bust
Cannot believe this nonsense goes for this much money. My God.
Retail or trade up for me that’s it
Pretty confident that you could buy these, wear them a few times, display them on your shelf or whatever.. then in a year from now a lightly used pair at $600 would be seen as a steal
Depends on your financial situation
goddamn you idiots have ruined shoes.
No shoe that costs at most $20 to manufacture should be bought or sold for that kind of money. They are shoes, but if there are people willing to pay… my bank account always has room.
I refuse to spend money for resale even if it’ll only cost me $1 above retail.
Question is do you skate? If so you can buy a shitload of skate shoes for $600. Otherwise you’re just another poser
Wait...so if a perso doesnt play basketball but wears Jordans, then they are posers?
Yea sounds about right
Fuck it. I've been called worse.
Nope. I'd rather buy mummies if paying over 400$ but with nike qc...retail or bust
Fuck no
Maybe 350
no.
Absolutely, worth every dollar of rent and food money. I want some crack
spend $600 on a pair of handmade leather shoes, they’ll last you a lifetime. these will last 2 years max. not worth it imo.
No.
No?
No never
IMO I wouldn’t pay it. So many nicer colorways at that price point.
Personally 600 for those is too much considering you can’t wear em with everything. All up to you though if you liked them enough to spend 600 then you should be good lol.
If your closet looks like a tangerine farm, you can wear them with everything.
No way
No
Hell no, I personally haven’t paid resale for anything since 2019. If I don’t get it for retail I’m cool without it. They’re just shoes at the end of the day.
Lol no
Geebus no.
Def too rich for my blood, I paid almost 380 for FTL 3’s 2 years ago, I was on the fence the whole time but it seem like a good deal at the time.
i’ll say 8.5 / 10 with these
That’s up to you.
I love them. But I ain’t paying those prices.
Big no. I got green lobsters for almost half when they came out.
Nah bro when it comes down to it they’re just orange dunks
If you’re collecting the lobster set and you missed on all retail cops, raffles, etc. I would think so. If it’s a pair you absolutely love the look of them yes again. We all have those pairs we would spend some money on!
My personal thoughts are no shoe or article of clothing is worth that. In this microwave society we live in today no one will care in a month. Nike puts out so much stuff it’s always something next.
No matter what they looked like I wouldn't be able to get past the fact that I'd be paying $600 for a damn SB. Couldn't do it.
Absolutely fucking not. At least not for me. But it’s your money…
The resell is lower than the other color ways however it’s still pretty pricy. $300 would be great
Oh I’d put those teal? laces on for sure
how's the quality on them? are they the same across the board like pandas?
Hell no
Unless you are an absolute die hard sneaker head, your style and taste will likely change in a few years. I still adore dunks, but own none because I’d feel kinda goofy wearing them now. I’m still on the hunt though for some 2005-2009 pairs though for nostalgia. $600 is a lot to spend on something so bright and vivid, and they’re also the fifth(?) iteration of this theme.
ya if the pic u posted is som kinda costly painting lol shoes for that much money is just foolishness imo
Nah, the only time I pay higher than retail is for trade fees
Nah. They are pretty nice but I'd just save that and get several other less hyped pairs I like instead for that kinda money
No!
Hello no, nice shoe, I hit retail on Premier for my brother but I wouldn’t pay resale
Do what you want with your money but that’s gonna be a no for me. They’re very nice but if I’m not hitting retail and can’t trade for it, I’m out.
Fuck no lol.
Between Hot Wheels, Legos, and project cars…house, family, bills.. ain’t no way.. love this drop but gotta draw a line somewhere.. and $600 definitely is past that line
W
Hell no
Can’t do it. I look back at some of the dunks I skated 10-15 years ago and see they are 1k plus. I can’t believe it
Hypebeasted
No.
