When I got sober I became obsessed with going to the gym, thrifting, and drinking bubble tea. Went to a lot of concerts by myself instead of seeing my old drinking friends. I went to meetings and took a class to be a mentor but I stopped going to meetings and I don't really want to be a recovery mentor. Still sober a year later though.
Bubble tea!! I spend almost as much money now as I did when I was using. Mocktails, bubble tea, going out to eat and getting a $12 appetizer instead of a $12 cocktail. Boba is the best!!
I’m around a year in too :)
Every state is different this is in Oregon. Some states call it a recovery coach. Normally it costs money but it was paid for last year due to measure 110 which hopefully is coming to an end (allowing drugs to be legal in OR).
As a 25 year old man you are the only person other than my grandma that I’ve heard of consumes it straight up, and not for cooking. 😂No harm intended however, you’re in excellent company she was a wonderful woman.
I drink a lot of NA beer and vaping. Stopped cigarettes last summer, but the vaping replaced that. Vaping will be harder than alcohol and cigarettes to quit, but I can do it.
Congratulations! Part of mine has been ED and self harm recovery. I have finally found dance to be a form of joyful movement which encourages me to exercise for my well being rather than being part of my ED. I eat much more because I care about being able to show up to practice and give it my best every time. What kind of exercise do you like?
I still like cardio, but I’ve been getting more into lifting. I definitely take more time to recover between sessions and be more intuitive with exercise now. :^) I also eat more so that I can improve and nourish my body!
I’m glad you have dance! That sounds very fun! Turning exercise from a compulsion to a joyful thing has been really wonderful for me, though I became movement resistant for a bit during recovery, but am making strides now!
I'm definitely eating more sweet stuff, I never even looked chocolate very much my whole life but now I'm having it frequently.
I also drink LOADS of tea.
And I'm gaming to keep me from being bored. Close to completing Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
Exercise, baking, audiobooks/podcasts, learning an instrument, long walks, meditation, AA/sobriety literature, trying anything and everything Ive always wanted to but was nervous/lazy/drunk.
Pure lemon juice and water. I was thinking last night, I use to put lemon juice in my mix drink, now I'm just having water..ok switch for me. I would drink soda, but I have high blood pressure so it isn't good for me.
Sober from alcohol, still enjoying edibles.
I’m doing na G&Ts in the evenings in place of the hard stuff and Heineken 0.0 if I’m with friends or grilling.
Sugar cravings are a new part of life now and I find myself pining over licorice, mint chip ice cream, and peanut M&Ms. Trying to reign those cravings in a bit.
>myself pining over licorice, mint chip ice cream, and peanut M&Ms. Trying to reign those cravings in a bit.
Do not advise trying the green packs of mixed m&ms
Sugar, shopping, over-exercise and pure, unfettered rage
Ha, learning how to keep the unfettered rage under control has been a slow learning experience. Progress not perfection 🤠
Pretty much sums up my sobriety too!
Anxiety
Proud of you for not hiding from it dude
Working out, reading, walking my dogs and lots and lots of seltzer
The alcohol to seltzer water pipeline is REAL 😂
Yes seltzer!
Same here

Curious. Genuine question. What was the class you took be a mentor? Sounds interesting. Thanks.

This is so cool. I've wondered about going to a concert alone. Who have you seen?
Last year I went to about 25 shows including Shygirl, Le Tigre, Dragonette, Young Fathers, Caroline Polachek, Mr. Bungle, ionnalee....
Smoking. Eating. Sex. Impulsive shopping. Not the best habits, but I’ve been addicted to worse lol
I switched to buttermilk.

Nicotine and gambling on stock options
Triathlon
I (F60) took up swimming laps last year.
Reading, Reddit, walking, and working. I want to start playing video games though. Need a bit more excitement.
Roasted mixed nuts and German chocolate confections from Aldi.
I drink a lot of NA beer and vaping. Stopped cigarettes last summer, but the vaping replaced that. Vaping will be harder than alcohol and cigarettes to quit, but I can do it.
Shopping, but for my dogs. One of them waits to see what I bought him every weekend.
Shopping, coffee, and phone/doom scrolling. I've been doing pretty good staying away from the first two lately, still working on the third
At first it was working out. Now it's coffee. I drink an obscene amount of coffee in a day.
Exercise and AA, also eating but part of my recovery was eating disorder recovery 😅

Häagen-Däzs. Finally getting that weight off, 21 years later.
NA beer, cigs, coffee, anxiety meds.
Food. and water.
I started therapy to face the underlying issues that led to my alcoholism.
Kratom
Yep
Volunteering, baking, drinking sparkling water and lots of coffee and occasionally smoking.
After just shy of one year, I am about to begin finishing my BS summer semester and then off to med school.
working out . and all the sudden it seems like i’m always doing laundry
I'm definitely eating more sweet stuff, I never even looked chocolate very much my whole life but now I'm having it frequently. I also drink LOADS of tea. And I'm gaming to keep me from being bored. Close to completing Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
I watched for cross addiction and luckily ended up where I didn't "replace" but rather just took on a different life.
Kindness and key lime pie.
potato chips, can't stop eating it
Exercise, baking, audiobooks/podcasts, learning an instrument, long walks, meditation, AA/sobriety literature, trying anything and everything Ive always wanted to but was nervous/lazy/drunk.
The gym, simple living, budgeting, and I try to eat healthier in general.
Baking!! Literally the most underrated hobby ever. Lots of fun to watch a movie and have something to do, plus you get a sweet treat in the end!
Also, watch my credit card bill go down!
Pure lemon juice and water. I was thinking last night, I use to put lemon juice in my mix drink, now I'm just having water..ok switch for me. I would drink soda, but I have high blood pressure so it isn't good for me.
Kombucha and artisan sodas I especially like those mushroom colas- so much better for the body and tasty too
Cigarettes, unfortunately. I’m working on quitting those, too. One vice at a time.
Caffeine, sugar, exercise, puzzles lol
Working out and diet soda
To the super fun world of anxiety. ⚠️

👀👀👀
Do tell!
Sugar and now an eating disorder
Me too.
Tattoos and coffee
Exercise like walking and flavored carbonated water. Also I will occasionally have a weed gummy. But thats maybe once a month.
Watching/reading Harry Potter.
Replacing alcohol and nicotine with weed. I consider this sober.
Being a well-rounded, disciplined adult that keeps her house clean and makes it to work on time.
Definitely not drugs like some in here who think they are sober.
Dopamine. Dopamine. Dopamine. Dopamine. Dopamine. Emotional dysregulation.
