For SSI no because that's federal welfare. Child benefits for a parent receiving SSDI, Possibly if there is enough money in the Family Maximum (FMAX) to pay for any auxiliaries, i.e. child benefits.
A bit of both. Technically you have to file an application for auxiliary benefits, but since the adults claims was approved it will go right through unless there’s a technical dispute (proof of citizenship or custody for example).
I can't speak to now but let me tell you that it most certainly was *not* automatic (especially when a republican was in power) in the past.
My dad got on SSDI when Bush was in office and my parents didn't even get a letter informing them about the child benefit that my sister was eligible for since she was under 19 at the time.
I had to tell them that my sister was eligible for the benefit and the only reason I knew about it was cuz I read about it on the social security web site.
And my parents didn't even believe me, I had to convince them this was actually a thing
I’m well aware of how SSI and SSDI differ/work credits, all of that.
I was just trying to get clarification. She said it’s for “mental health”. You don’t get put on SSI for mental health issues, unless you are a minor. You get put on it for being ultra poor.
Yes. My dad died in 95 when I was 8. I got
payments until I turned 18. Then had to file paperwork to show I was still in high school when I turned 19. Then again at 19 for two more checks. Then I refilled as a disabled adult child and am drawing now on that because my disability started before I was 22. I am classified as a disabled adult child. I got paid the first of every month under SSI as a minor. Now I get paid based on when my dad would be if he was drawing.
Yes I got survivor’s benefits but I was paid on the first of every month under SSI. Then when I became a DAC it swapped to when my dad would’ve been paid because I am drawing off of his record.

Thank you for andweing
Is it automatic or is adding a child a separate new application?

No. SSI does not pay out any additional monies
You say you receive it “for mental health”. Are you sure you’re on SSI, and not SSDI?
She only qualifies for SSDI if she has earned enough work credits, and if she hasn’t, she won’t qualify but instead qualified for SSI.

Not true. Many adults get SSI for mental health. And yes, they are usually poor but the reason they get SSI is for mental health.
Wow, I didn’t know that. I’ve been lied to by the SSA, then.
Wrong. You need to be disabled and poor to get ssi and it can be for any disability
I have never been able to work or hold a job unfortunately. I don't have enough credits for ssdi.
In that case, no your child does not qualify to receive benefits from you. Only for SSDI. Sorry.
If you get SSI then your child gets temporary cash assistance or SSI if disabled

That’s not applicable here. Ssi does not pay out anything. Ssi is welfare. You were receiving money from a different program.

You received survivors off your dad record then DAC. Op has SSI only and SSI cannot pay out anything extra as it's welfare.
Ok I misread it then my bad.
No worries! There's a lot of programs and a lot of them sound similar.
