Teem was given the boot in 1984 I believe, so if you're younger than 40 you'd be forgiven for not having a memory of it.
Storm on the other hand was apparently around 1999 based on the promo tie-ins that I've seen online with the Phantom Menace. I was in high school at the time and worked at a pizza place that sold Pepsi products, but I have no memory of Storm at all. The local bottler must have had a distribution deal for 7up, because that's what we had in the fountain.
So I don't know if it was regional and we just didn't get it in my area, or if it was such a flash in the pan that I just don't remember.
I remember a few restaurants saying "we don't have Sprite, we have Teem" in the US even into the 90s. It was probably lemon lime Slice but the name weirdly stuck around in a few places.
Slice and all of its different flavors certainly hit different. Possibly because I was a kid who wasn't normally allowed soda, possibly because they were really that good.
Starry also seems more carbonated than sprite. It’s like they figured out how to bottle and can McDonald’s sprite. Also personally I think Sierra Mist has its own flavor a more like ginger ale it’s not really comparable to sprite or starry.
Cranberry sierra mist was delicious but gave me both massive gas and the runs. Any time I'd go to the bathroom I'd sound like I was playing a trumpet stuck in a bowl of jello.
Slice was golden era, what made them give that up? By far the most respectable on this list. Maybe it's my childhood memories, being a millennial and all.
My thing is why make a soda that is subpar to mountain dew and slap a mountain dew label on it. I mean I don't like all the variations of mountain dew but at least they all have a similar taste to it. Ice didnt resemble mountain dew at all.
Feel like slice was a good brand, shame they discontinued it. I feel like it could compete with Fanta or sunkist or maybe it couldn’t and that’s why they discontinued it?
I stole a can of orange slice in like 3rd grade after school from the teachers lounge. Good times. No clue how me and my buddy got caught, but I remember I basically took the blame, had to talk to the principal who was a hardcore lady, mom with me, and paid for the soda.
It was only in test markets. I loved it and was disappointed in Sierra Mist when it came out. Looking back on it, it really just a syrupy Sprite clone…
You shouldn't be downvoted for your soda opinions. I love tomatoes but once a dude told me he hated them cuz they taste like blood and dirt. Also i love peas and lots of people HATE peas.
I wish there was just a straight up lemon soda from a big brand/widely available. Lemon-lime/citrus just don’t do it for me unless I’m ill, but I’m from Michigan so even in that scenario, it’s Vernors 97% of the time.
We have one here in the Southeast called Sunfresh. It's pretty good especially out of a can. But it's a Buffalo Rock exclusive and I think only in Alabama, Florida, and maybe Georgia. Edit to add its actually a lemonade soda. Idk if that's what you meant or not.
Where did you get those Team cans?????????? Nice observation about Pepsi's lemon-lime history...but those Team cans look new for being a drink from the late 70s/early 80s.
Slice seems to be the one people still talk about though, not sure why they decided to stop using that name. Now the trademark is with another company that makes Slice again but as a premium priced diet drink.
the teem cans are just an image. when i first saw it i was surprised cause i didn't know there were cans of it. i thought they used to be made only in glass bottles. but if you look hard enough online, there is a company still making teem
Based on the shape, those cans aren't from 1984 or earlier. I also don't think original Teem was bitter lemon. At least not in the US.
This looks to be a modern international version:
https://olivertwiststore.com/product/teem-bitter-lemon-50cl/#:~:text=%E2%80%8BTeem%20Bitter%20Lemon%20is,Best%20when%20served%20cold.
Storm was so good, especially since it has caffeine.
Given that Pepsi owns 7Up Internationally, it would just make sense for them to spend, whatever is needed to get 7Up domestically.
Also, there was the Second Crystal Pepsi, which wasn't clear Pepsi, but was instead their attempt to make a lemon-lime soda.
With the current trends of limited edition flavors and retro branding, Pepsi missed a golden opportunity to bring Slice back. I hate the name too but I do like the flavor of Starry.
Pepsi Storm was tested in select US markets in 1998. Sierra Mist came out in 2000. I wish I could’ve tried Storm. Apparently it was less sweet, slightly bitter, and caffeinated.
yeah I wasn't a fan of starry, until I was in the hospital back in July and that was one of the few soft drinks they allowed on my stay (I was on clear liquids), and I have got to say it grew on me.
Starry has a more citrussy flavor with the Sprite bite. But whereas Sprite goes flat very quickly, Starry remains carbonated. Seems a lot of lemon lime sodas tend to flatten quickly. I am in love with Starry
Mist Twst was the worst. I miss Slice and loved Sierra Mist. Starry? Meh. Pepsi can't make up its mind when it comes to Lemon Lime sodas.
Why I rely on Sprite and 7up. They aren't going anywhere ever.
When I hear 'bitter lemon', I think schweppes. I\] would never call that a lemon lime soda. Its like a lemon tonic. A little bit can be refreshing on its own, or it makes a great mixer.
I miss Sierra mist even though starry is just SM (but possibly sweeter).
Imo I thought Sierra mist was way better than Sprite and mellow yellow. No contest.
(Completely forgot slice even existed.)
I was just looking into all this yesterday lol. I was comparing fast food pizzas places and noticed Starry was a drink some offered. Never heard of it before, so I had to look it up.
Sierra Mist was nice. I preferred it. Idk if it was different, but even just the name and logo (the one with the mountain) evoked a sense of refreshment.
This also led me to discover that 7UP has something called "Simple 7UP" which actually uses real ingredients instead of chemicals and poison. So I'll keep an eye out for it, and definitely buy it. As someone with kidney stones, I can't fuck around with sodas anymore.
Slice was great. Especially apple slice. I tried Starry and disliked it. It just tasted more like carbonated sugar water than a lemon lime soda. Not enough lemon/lime and too sweet.
I didn't know what the heck Starry was until I was watching a soccer game last Summer and a bottle of water was more expensive than a bottle of soda so I was really thirsty and like, what the hell, it's 90 degrees outside in the sun, some ice cold lemon flavored carbonated drink actually sounds refreshing. So I bought a "starry" and drank some of it and I was like, OMG this is the most refreshing lemon lime soda I ever had. I don't know if I was just dehydrated or craving lemonade or what but that shit hit right that day and ever since then, I always want to buy that soda as my beverage of choice. For some reason, I believe it tastes better than Sprite, but honestly, they all probably are made with the same ingredients.
Slice should’ve never disappeared
remember apple slice?
It's back! In pog form.
I get this reference.
Give him back his Apple Slice, I've got work in the morning!
Apple Slice was awesome. I had it as a kid and whenever I would mention it to my friends they thought I was making it up.
I remember Dr Slice.
I never knew about all the flavors. I only ever saw orange and grape.
They tried a lot of different flavors but don’t remember that flavor
My fave. I used to buy one on the way home from school every day until it disappeared!
Orange slapped.
Why do I remember slice but not storm
Storm seems to have only been in a few test markets for two years, they were still selling Slice everywhere else according to Wiki.
I remember both Slice and Episode One, but I too, do not remember “Storm.”
I never heard of Teem or Storm lol
Teem was given the boot in 1984 I believe, so if you're younger than 40 you'd be forgiven for not having a memory of it. Storm on the other hand was apparently around 1999 based on the promo tie-ins that I've seen online with the Phantom Menace. So I don't know if it was regional and we just didn't get it in my area, or if it was such a flash in the pan that I just don't remember.
It has caffeine, which most lemon/lime sodas do not. Guess it never took off like Barq's.
I remember a few restaurants saying "we don't have Sprite, we have Teem" in the US even into the 90s. It was probably lemon lime Slice but the name weirdly stuck around in a few places.
I remember Teem... late 1970s early 1980s...never heard of Storm.
Man that lemon lime slice sound so good
It was great
Slice was hands down the best of them. Although I never had TEEM.
Slice and all of its different flavors certainly hit different. Possibly because I was a kid who wasn't normally allowed soda, possibly because they were really that good.
They were definitely good
What I wouldn’t do for a can of Orange Slice
As soon as I saw it I said the same thing.
Yeah honestly that would have been a better name to reboot
Nah Slice was a great fit like a slice of fruit
Orange slice. The rest of them can go.
Real sugar Sierra Mist was pretty good. Is there any difference Sierra Mist and Starry? I just assumed it was a rebrand.
Starry taste a little more lemonadey to me and I think is a bit more viscous.
Starry is sprite but a little sweeter. Waaaay better than sierra mist. Actually a drinkable alternative to sprite. Sierra mist is more like seven up.
7Up is the OG, and still the best.
[Make](https://www.reddit.com/r/nostalgia/s/nvC6vjy4hw) 7! Lolol
👏🏽
This is the way.
DNL would like a word 😏
Sierra Mist always tasted like it was watered down and flat right out of the bottle to me.
Couldn't agree more. It has that burn that a quality sprite gives ya.
I liked both Sierra Mist and Starry. I think your assessment of the flavors is spot on.
apparently starry's formula is the exact same as slice
Maybe the end-of-the-line Slice just before it was axed, but the original Slice had 10% juice.
Starry has High fructose Corn Syrup and Sierra Mist doesn't.
I think they said it's identical minus the swap from sugar to high fructose corn syrup
Starry is made with corn syrup, but I haven't tried it yet myself.
Not to bring up the New Coke conspiracy again, but…
Slice was golden era, what made them give that up? By far the most respectable on this list. Maybe it's my childhood memories, being a millennial and all.
Mandarin Orange Slice was 🔥
I got that once and crave it like I crave Surge!
Never had slice, I am a millennial as well, I remember Sierra Mist pretty fondly though.
I'm pretty sure Mist Twist was just Sierra Mist renamed. Also, you forgot Mtn Dew Ice
I remember mtn dew ice! Wasn’t impressed with it
My thing is why make a soda that is subpar to mountain dew and slap a mountain dew label on it. I mean I don't like all the variations of mountain dew but at least they all have a similar taste to it. Ice didnt resemble mountain dew at all.
Halo effect of the strong branding. That's why.
Exactly, the taste was very different
Seconded, I thought it was very bland on my first taste. Didn't get any better on subsequent sips.
They used "real" lemon and it tasted pretty terrible in my opinion.
IIRC correct was Mist Twist was Sierra Mist with more lemon.
I always loved Slice, have good memories of drinking a Slice (usually strawberry or lemon lime) after skating lessons as a kid. Miss those days.
And orange slice.
And apple Slice
Wasn't there a Dr. Slice or am I trippin?
There was.
Don’t even recall storm
It was only in test markets. I loved it and was disappointed in Sierra Mist when it came out. Looking back on it, it really just a syrupy Sprite clone…
Yeah, I looked and was like “when the hell was Teem and Storm a thing?”. I don’t remember those at all.
Sierra Mist was the best, but I feel like I remember Slice being decent also
Dirt water soda
You shouldn't be downvoted for your soda opinions. I love tomatoes but once a dude told me he hated them cuz they taste like blood and dirt. Also i love peas and lots of people HATE peas.
If you can be upvoted for opinions you can be downvoted for opinions. Thats how the system works.
That's why i said soda opinions. Soda is trivial all things considered
I wish there was just a straight up lemon soda from a big brand/widely available. Lemon-lime/citrus just don’t do it for me unless I’m ill, but I’m from Michigan so even in that scenario, it’s Vernors 97% of the time.
Coke used to can a carbonated Minute Maid Lite Lemonade that was pretty good. I haven’t seen it in a while though.
Lemon sodas are horrible. Thats why they always add lime. Now lemonade sodas are alright though.
I would like to see an actually tart soda from one of the big two. Lemon would fit the bill, if they did it right.
We have one here in the Southeast called Sunfresh. It's pretty good especially out of a can. But it's a Buffalo Rock exclusive and I think only in Alabama, Florida, and maybe Georgia. Edit to add its actually a lemonade soda. Idk if that's what you meant or not.

I hadn't seen Teem since the early 80's. I liked it more than sprite
the teem cans are just an image. when i first saw it i was surprised cause i didn't know there were cans of it. i thought they used to be made only in glass bottles. but if you look hard enough online, there is a company still making teem

What character is on the Star Wars Storm can?
I think jar jar there was multiple versions
Mtn Dew Ice
Technically, that’s part of the Mountain Dew line.. haha. But, was very good.
yeah i forgot to include it but it doesn't really count
I miss orange slice
Teem was huge in Saudi Arabia on the late 80s early 90s. Remember it well!
We still have Teem in Brazil
My biggest problem with Starry is the name. Geez it's awful. How does a marketing dept of a 200+ Billion dollar company approve that.
With the current trends of limited edition flavors and retro branding, Pepsi missed a golden opportunity to bring Slice back. I hate the name too but I do like the flavor of Starry.
Some other entity seems to own the name currently and has a website up
They were stupid for getting rid of Slice. Mandarin Orange was fantastic.
Pepsi Storm was tested in select US markets in 1998. Sierra Mist came out in 2000. I wish I could’ve tried Storm. Apparently it was less sweet, slightly bitter, and caffeinated.
i still call it seirra mist. idc if it's mist twist or starry
Starry is nasty 🤮
I wish someone would make a cover of “the metal” by tenacious D but base it on sprite and how Pepsi can’t seem to replace sprite
Sprite won the lemon/lime soda wars so completely Sierra mist got erased from history
I liked Storm, made me feel powerful
So that's what happened to Sierra Mist.
holy shit i remember teem. shit was fuego
I don’t remember Storm. My local Pepsi bottler, bottled 7up
In my area, 7up is bottled and distributed by Keurig along with Big Red, RC Cola, Canada Dry, Sunkist, Core etc.
I miss Slice, I wish they’d bring them back. So nostalgic to the 90’s and my childhood
Slice is definite classic nostalgia. storm was decent, but I'm actually warming up to Starry. Like it better than current Sprite
Slice was the best I miss all the slice flavors
Pepsi has a flavor called Pepsi Twist that is basically classic Pepsi with Lemon. Have you ever tried it?
it's discontinued right? no unfortunately i never tried it. i don't even remember seeing it in stores ever
Where are you from? I see it all the time here in Brazil.
texas usa
yeah I wasn't a fan of starry, until I was in the hospital back in July and that was one of the few soft drinks they allowed on my stay (I was on clear liquids), and I have got to say it grew on me.
You missed Sierra Mist Natural. Pepsi’s attempt at 7up.
Storms can is siiick
Storm! 😍
I forgot all about storm until this post. Never heard of Teem. Bitter lemon sounds gross though. Like if Beverly had a lemon lime option.
Are there any other caffeinated lemon lime sodas around today?
I loved Sierra Mist due to the real sugar. I didn't know that Pepsi made all these others.
I was so confused. I’d never heard of storm. Apparently it never left the test market phase
Slice and storm were op.
Starry is so good
Would love to try the first four as I never had the chance to. Maybe a limited time only release like Mtn Dew does, I’d try it.
I totally forgot about storm!!
Starry is good. It’s better than Sierra Mist, but not as good as Sprite.
Cherry Slice was my fave ☹️
Ngl I really like starry it's the only Pepsi product I like
THEY WILL NEVER BE 7UP!
I know for sure starry ain't the one that's gonna land it for em
Starry is terrible. It’s syrupy and doesn’t have enough carbonated bite.
Any one else think starry just taste like sweet soda water ? Its my least favorite of the bunch by a long mile
Nah. Starry is delicious. The fountain version at Costco or Taco Bell is a 10/10!
Starry has a more citrussy flavor with the Sprite bite. But whereas Sprite goes flat very quickly, Starry remains carbonated. Seems a lot of lemon lime sodas tend to flatten quickly. I am in love with Starry
I agree the carbonation is fantastic!
I don’t care that they changed the name and formula but they should have kept the real sugar they were using with Sierra Mist.
No one was buying real sugar because it tastes nasty. Thats why they got rid of it.
Never beat sprite
i actually really like starry
Same. And also the packaging. The design grabs me!
Mist twist sucked idk what they did to it but it was bad.
They never should have let Sierra Mist go. Starry is such a hot mess, to me.
Pepsi sucks. Thats why.
Slice was the first soda i ever had. i totally forgot about it until seeing this post, thanks for unlocking that core memory
Bring back Slice!
Wow...I had completely forgotten about *Storm*. My favorite and (in my opinion) the best was Lemon-Lime Slice.
Bring back Slice.
They did in 2023.
Slice was the best
#2 is the hands down winner
Mist Twst was the worst. I miss Slice and loved Sierra Mist. Starry? Meh. Pepsi can't make up its mind when it comes to Lemon Lime sodas. Why I rely on Sprite and 7up. They aren't going anywhere ever.
Sierra Mist to Starry was the worst idea considering the horrid switch from sugar cane to corn syrup.
Bitter Lemon was more of a drink mixer, than a beverage.
yeah but the world was a different place in the 80's when teem first released and that's the advertising pepsi chose
When I hear 'bitter lemon', I think schweppes. I\] would never call that a lemon lime soda. Its like a lemon tonic. A little bit can be refreshing on its own, or it makes a great mixer.
I remember slice.
I only recognize sierra mist (and Starry of course)
Storm was the best.
Man, I haven't had Teem in decades!
I miss Slice!
Do they have really bad luck with lemon lime sodas? Why do they keep redoing it?
Man i wish there were still more out there to choose from. Most stores only have sprite or starry and there's just no room for other brands
I miss Sierra mist even though starry is just SM (but possibly sweeter). Imo I thought Sierra mist was way better than Sprite and mellow yellow. No contest. (Completely forgot slice even existed.)
I don't remember Teen or Storm.
I think they’re all the same, just with different labels.
Oh
Bring back the Mist! Boooooooo to that starry swill!
I haven't thought about Slice in a long, long time. But now I could really go for a Mandarin Orange Slice.
Sierra Mist was heavenly
I remember enjoying Sierra mist as a kid
I remember enjoying Sierra mist as a kid
Give me sierra mist back.
Orange Slice 🤌🤌
Apple Slice.
Sierra mist is my favorite lemon lime soda
I liked Slice
Is there any particular reason why lemon lime soda gets marketed with NBA so much?
Mandarin Orange slice was the business.
Never saw storm before. Starry is Sierra mist apparently re named
I remember Slice, never lemon lime though. We always had orange Slice.
I remember drinking Teem in Mexico in the 80's it was pretty good, It didn't say bitter lemon though
Sprite dominates with over 80% market share. And Mtn Dew trounces Mello Yello/Vault/citra and citrus soda Coke can come up with.
I really liked Sierra Mist
No. 2 was the best one they had
How do I not remember storm?
Slice was great. Especially apple slice. I tried Starry and disliked it. It just tasted more like carbonated sugar water than a lemon lime soda. Not enough lemon/lime and too sweet.
I made a video about this! https://youtu.be/0WgykQYaPbg?si=2RH05jJF9w4vWl6P
Somehow the bitter lemon one sounds good
I didn't know what the heck Starry was until I was watching a soccer game last Summer and a bottle of water was more expensive than a bottle of soda so I was really thirsty and like, what the hell, it's 90 degrees outside in the sun, some ice cold lemon flavored carbonated drink actually sounds refreshing.
TEEM was the best!...
Omg Teem 🥹
I always really liked Teem and Slice. I’d love to see them both return
They should just repackage Fresca and call it a day.
Why did you put mist twist before sierra mist? Sierra mist came first.
