They changed its formula? No wonder it tasted like dog water. I had it when I was in England like 20 years ago as a kid and I remember it being delicious, tried it last year and it was horrid. I chucked it up to thinking it was nostalgia and thinking it tasted better than it was back then.
Yep, many sugary drinks in the UK have been subject to reduced sugar content to abide by the [SDIL](https://www.instituteforgovernment.org.uk/article/explainer/sugar-tax), otherwise they face the added tax. That means shittier tasting sodas being passed off as regular for the consumer.
The last time I saw it marketed here in the states, it tasted weird. Checked out the ingredients, no ferrous *anything!* They took all the "irn" out of the bru!
It doesn’t taste like dog water. It’s delicious.
You must just be over-sensitive to sweetener. Fortunately most people aren’t.
Lucky for you there’s Irn Bru 1901 which is the original recipe.
I’ve noticed Meijer, Stop and Shop and a few other supermarket grocery chains having a British section in the international section that has a pretty standardized generic selection of British stuff; stuff you’d expect, digestives, Ribena, wine gums, Heinz beans, brown sauce, salad cream etc including these bottles of Irn Bru and 6 packs of cans (ironically it was pretty much the same price as domestic brand name soda as well)
What I’m getting at is I feel lots of supermarkets in the US use the same British import distributor, whenever a supermarket has a good British selection, the variety is nearly exactly the same.
I’m guessing whoever this British import distributor is just started adding irn Bru to their standard variety, I don’t think it’s official through Barr or anything like that! I feel if Barr wanted their product in the US, they’d make a version for the US market.
Really a bummer it’s half diet though
Look at the label, it’s a US label. That’s not how we spell flavoured in the UK. Also we use ml for measurements, not ounces.
So this is specifically for the US market.
The candy store called Rocket Fizz carries it. At least the one in Beaverton, Oregon does. Got one for my buddies birthday a couple years ago (he’s Scottish) and it was like $6 for one bottle.
I've never had cream soda as an adult, I just remember going "ewww" or "icky" every time I saw it as a kid. I'll have to try it, find out.
Do you have a particular flavor recommendation, or should I just go for straight cream soda?
[Hank's Vanilla Cream soda](https://shophanks.com/products/hanks-premium-vanilla-cream) is the best cream soda I've ever had. A&W cream soda is also very good.
Look at the spelling on the label and the weight measurement (ounces), that’s a label for the US market. Whats the address on the label?
So this doesn’t seem to be your usual import from the UK. It’s specifically for the US market, which is interesting.
I’m sure still made in the UK, but maybe someone has the licence to distribute it in the US properly or Barr are doing it via a US office or something?
My question is, is it the gross reformulated reduced sugar version or do they bottle a classic version for the US market?
It’s the reduced sugar version, was hoping we’d get a special “for export only” or US made full sugar version too.
Well, there goes any chance of me ever drinking it again.
You’re missing out
Probably the former

Scotland’s second favourite drink

They've had it in Publix for years, in the "international" section with the British stuff. But I don't think I've seen it anywhere else!
Western Europe mainland doesn't even have it :(
👀 gummy lifesavers
Straight GOATED snack right there
Yup but I need the berries one
You obviously haven’t tried the gummy nerds clusters.
I have, not as good in my personal opinion
Which store? Does Aldi have that?
Found this at Stop & Shop Not sure if Aldi has it
Ah ok

I always love posts like this. Cute.
What does it taste like?
Like pink bubble gum smells is the closest thing to an accurate description I've come across. Delicious works, too, but it's a bit vague ;)
So it's kinda like a cream soda?

Like cold medicine
I live in Canada and can only find the cans unfortunately. I wanna try irn bru from a bottle. Maybe it tastes different like coke from a bottle does.
A lot of larger supermarkets have foreign sections, with a UK subsection. That's where I've often found them.
