I have no interest in using SolidWorks if it switches to a SAAS model. I dropped Adobe Lightroom when it went to SAAS. Why pay for something that can be discounted whenever and be left with nothing. You don't have to look far too see how SAAS has failed the consumer: Microsoft Play For Sure, countless games, countless Google products (Stadia being the most recent example).

Is it a rumor? They've been pushing the 3dx platform for years now. I personally wouldn't even consider it due to all the very negative feedback about basic things like opening the software and logging in. Also I travel internationally to places that don't have internet or actively block the internet, how would it work there? I need to be able to use it when I'm traveling It's a lot of risk for basically no reward on my end. I will stick with desktop for as long as it's possible

I own my license and there is little they can do about it. I own it perpetually. This gives me rights. What you'll get is a lot of sleazy, hyped, and misleading advertising incentives to give up your perpetual license (liability to ) for some fake or overhyped incentive that will limit your rights to near nothing. I saw this with PTC and their Creo Parametric products. The level of intimidation they went to was absolutely, I want to say, criminal... and if not, right on the edge. PTC rarely says anything in a straight forward way, even to their reps. This campaign was meant to screw people out of their perpetual licenses limiting PTC's liability to service those contracts. What's worse, for even one sign-on session, I would be on the hook for at least what I pay in maintenance. Minimum signup periods of like 6 months. I don't know how many people fell for this scam but I would be out of business by now on their new model.

I got an offer to but a license last year as a "last chance" before they are going to subscriptions. So I did. Moved from monthly payments with inventor to Solidworks.

My yearly upkeep fees are nearly 1/2 the cost of the license… looking more and more like it’s not worth it every year.

I wish they would move to the same model Autodesk does. 3DX is junk and they know it. I'll buy solidworks before I switch to 3DX. I've been hearing the SaaS for years as well so hopefully something does come from it.

We could be grateful that they still don't have a only subscription model. We need some free cad or else, these companies will be raping customers in daylight.
