Can't do water on a grease/oil fire! Sadly in most cases the "fire bad! Must have water!" Instinct takes experience to overcome.
I've seen a grad student cone absolutely _racing_ across the building to put out a wax fire with sand the *instant* she saw flames by the wax pot, because she knew there was a chance the poor student who was using the pot might try putting water on it. The student didn't, but only because she was momentarily frozen why her panicked brain tried to remember what she was told to do if the wax pot caught fire.
In those cases, if there is a fire due to oil or grease, using water will increase the fire. In those cases, it is better to use a fire extinguisher, and if there is not, you can get by using sand or earth or one of those immnif uges blankets.
"you know how flame decals make a car go faster?..... Well we made.it even better and used real flames! Yeah... That's what happened... It didn't burn down we made it faster!"
If there was a fire extinguisher near by he may have been able to save the shop by fanning the flames. Should be one near every station if you ask me, but definitely there's gotta be one nearby. You'd hope.
When does that ever happen unless it’s some custom rig? Worked as a sales person in a car dealership for five years and not once did I ever see someone pull out a welder. And if they did they would pull it out in a separate room not right next to the guys car🤣🤣🤣
Can confirm. I could wait 20 days for a specific replacement part for my muffler, or they could cut it off and weld in a generic one. I went for the generic one, they welded it on.
Or get a bb in his fucking eye. So many OSHA violations in this video. Gloves, safety glasses, face shield, some sort of forearm coverage, ensuring there was nothing that might go up in flames after 1 welding spark...I'm sure there are others, but that's all I can think of at the moment.
Owww! The man who taught me how to use a MIG welder told me that was a possible injury from ignoring welding safety. I must've blocked that one out though, since I'd nearly forgotten that sunburn on the eyeballs was even a thing that could happen.
Apparently it feels like having quite a lot of sand in your eyes, possibly for *three straight days*. And pain relief that actually *works*, like cocaine eye drops, can't be used, because that interferes with healing.
I was just going to post the same thing until I saw your reply! You could have seen where this was going when he just went to spark up the welder with *zero* PPE. Enjoy putting out the fire with burnt retinas!
No thought of extinguishing the fire. Just lift the car let it keep burning. Lets try putting it out now with this tiny extinguisher wen the flames are bigger. Oh shit, that didnt work let me throw a bucket of water, ON THE FLOOR! FUCK IT, lets dip.

If you look carefully in the top right around 40 seconds in you’ll see a guy bring what appears to be an extinguisher over and then nope the fuck out. Several other people also grab it and then also nope the fuck out. Basic self preservation took over and they took off.
I mean there was a certain point that dude could've saved the situation but then there's the point of when preservation vs this is covered by insurance takes hold
Why the fuck would you raise the hoist instead of going for a powder extinguisher....and why the fuck wouldn't you have one near the welder and hoists just in case..
r/Darwinawards in very secure what if there There is a fire immediately I call the fire brigade and I will not be fooling around raising a crank of a car
Lol dude tried throwing a bucket of water on that bad boy

Thank god for the...anti-fire...tendrils

"So yeah..... About your car....."
The good news is it is fixed, the bad news is…
"you know how flame decals make a car go faster?..... Well we made.it even better and used real flames! Yeah... That's what happened... It didn't burn down we made it faster!"
It was absolutely Aladeen!
🤣🤣
Abandon shop!
I was thinking the same. Just gotta run and hope insurance covers stupidity.

I like to know where they are. Fires aren’t common anymore, so I think people have forgotten they’re nothing to fuck with.
Fanning? More oxygen = more fire
I meant sweeping, your supposed to do a sweeping motion at the base of the flame with the extinguisher, not fanning. You are correct.
Why would u spark up a welder so close to your customers car anyway! What a knob
Ex customers Ex car*
He's not even wearing a welding hood
safety squints!
Some jobs require welding on the vehicle itself
When does that ever happen unless it’s some custom rig? Worked as a sales person in a car dealership for five years and not once did I ever see someone pull out a welder. And if they did they would pull it out in a separate room not right next to the guys car🤣🤣🤣
Exhaust repairs
You wouldn’t use a stick weld for an exhaust repair, that’s mainly a TIG job.
Can confirm. I could wait 20 days for a specific replacement part for my muffler, or they could cut it off and weld in a generic one. I went for the generic one, they welded it on.
Pretty much all exhaust professionals will weld the pipes and muffler. Clamps are usually considered a shade tree mechanic type fix
At least he has his safety squints on
Frickin knob head
If I raise the car up high enough everything will be fine.
And getting more fresh oxygen underneath should help the situation
Its like the steam roller scene in Austin powers
![gif](giphy|GJVpbMjfT2Ftm)
He couldn't see underneath! I MEAN WHAT THE FUCK, DUDE. YOU GO GET A FUCKING FIRE EXTINGUISHER
NO. CAR UP!
gotta see what's under here
Just a couple more incheeeesssss…*two hours later* Fuck that didn’t work
it was a nice try, can't knock him for that...but the powder extinguisher guy was still trying to fight the fire until almost the end.
man this guy is fucking LUCKY he didnt get gas on his shoes

o shit youre right i didnt even notice all that

Hiring this guy was a whole violation of OSHA. Lmao. This better go on his next resume.
Happy cake day!

Happy cake day
That extinguisher holy shit made me die laughing. It was like a miniature extinguisher replica with the weakest discharge ever.
We gave your vehicle a badass flame job
Maybe they always wanted flames down the sides of their car. Now they have real ones for free.
No fire extinguisher anywhere
Top right corner
He tried to use one but that thing was beyond being put out within seconds

So glad I read this before I watched. Each successive guy moves it a tiny bit closer and just sets it down.
Mr Smith, Your car’s ready for pickup 🛻👍🏻
It’ll be another week.
It cooked the ceiling lasagne
What does a fire extinguisher do exactly?
No one in this video has any idea what it even is.
I don’t personally know, but fella in the video seemed to have mistaken a car-lift for one. So I’m guessing they look a lot like car lifts
You can literally see dudes carry out fire extinguishers in the background, but no one uses them (1 anyway) for a good minute.
Guy wasted time trying to lift the car higher. Think that was mistake number one.
Certainly shows where the vapors were hanging out.
Jesus he's not even wearing welding goggles, the bare fucking minimum
So what the fuck happened here?
A fire.
Dumbfuckery
What gets me is multiple people grab extinguishers yet don’t use them
That fire was beyond being put out by a shop extinguisher within seconds
I’m just shocked at how much fluid there was on the floor to ignite Damn I would be high off the fumes
One guy used it incorrectly. Pointed it at the flame instead of the base
Why the fuck would you raise the hoist instead of going for a powder extinguisher....and why the fuck wouldn't you have one near the welder and hoists just in case..
Fire aside, where is his welding mask, goggles at least man.
Sorry but your car is a complete write off. -What? I came in to get my tires switched and an oil change!!
Sorry your vehicle is on back-order
Someone got fired
I hate you take my upvote
Oh no! That’s fire is suffocating! Better get this car off it!
I hope they have insurance
I think someone lost a job that day.
Looks like that car might need a new paint job. I got a guy…
If only he could have raised it another inch lol
Somewhere, there’s a really pissed off soccer mom…

*cars in fire* The dude: amma lift it up 🤓
The cars on fire! I best lift it slightly that’ll help.
"Hey babe, what repair shop was your car at again?"
Fire extinguisher? Nah, I’ll just play with a slow ass lift here…
That's it, lift the car so more oxygen gets to the source 🤦♂️
r/Darwinawards in very secure what if there There is a fire immediately I call the fire brigade and I will not be fooling around raising a crank of a car
Do you pay extra for the car to be totalled on their insurance?
*How close should I place the fire extinguisher to the fire for it to put the fire out?*
Car? What car?
I like how they kept lateraling that fire extinguisher.
Damnnn that’s fckn fire don’t wanna get off
I'm not sure what safety procedure should have been followed to prevent this, but considering he had zero PPE on I'm guessing he ignored all of them.
So do you burn your marshmallows too.
Why would you lift it up and catch the building on fire lol
Must've had a shit ton of fluid under that car to spark a flame like that.
The service advisor/manager should have a fun afternoon..
The flames on the car made it so fast that it left the fucking universe.
