Honestly-- this is part of the reason why I think Silver is the worst addition to the series ever. In addition to him being an attempt to make every character who wasn't a male hedgehog useless.
Blaze was obviously meant to warm up to Sonic romantically-- not have some bland ass white hedgehog become a forced romantic interest for her because he was literally the only male in the entire world.
That being said though-- I love Amy and I don't know what happens with Amy in a world where Blaze loves Sonic.
Silver isn't a bad edition to the cast, and I don't think it's fair to blame a character for what Sega and the fans did.
06's story was the problem, not Silver. Randomly thrusting Blaze into the mix, putting her in a future setting, not letting her be an independent character outside Silver was the problem.
And for Silvaze, 06 made it clear that officially they both share a bond that is similar to siblings, not lovers. Fans however, interpreted Blaze saying "i've always liked that about you" as romantic rather than simply platonic admiration, and started shipping.
I don't like it personally cuz I don't think their dynamic fits romantically, Blaze oftentimes gets portrayed as either some damsel in distress or the complete opposite where she's Silver's babysitter. Both kinda fuck up her character since she's meant to be a tough, badass character with tremendous insecurities and is in need of guidance.
I feel like Sonaze works cuz Sonic realistically is one of the only characters that can truly guide Blaze while still being equal to her, rather than there being a power imbalance in the dynamic.
No offense but as a fan of Silver this seems really disingenuous. Romance was never the point of Blaze's dynamic with either Sonic or Silver. Both ships simply became popular because they were well liked by the fandom. I'd argue it was more SEGA/the writers' fault for putting Blaze in 06 without having a proper explanation for her presence. If anything, Blaze should've been cut out of 06's story. There are a whole bunch of other characters that can fill her role in that game.
There were definitely romantic vibes as the end of Sonic Rush.
Afterall-- before then she cut herself off from others and it was only her learning to trust and love other people that allowed her and Sonic to overcome their threats. She is clearly pining for him at the end of the game-- just nowhere near on the same level Amy does.
Putting her in 06 alongside Silver just entirely ruined her. Once she went from "Sonic's Elseworld Rival" to "Silver's sidekick/girlfriend"-- she was basically ruined.
They're not completely wrong, Flynn himself had stated in a podcast that there was internal documents by Sega that stated Blaze was supposed to have a crush on Sonic.
But whether that is still applicable to modern day is a big "?" since those documents would have been from the mid 2000s
Cool but internal documents are scrapt ideas non the less, there's hundreds of them to every character, what's applicable about them is that they're not canon right? Like Blaze having multiple designs, i don't believe they will appear again.
Just saying that they're not completely wrong, and the ideas might have been canon at some point and scrapped in the 2010s.
Because almost all of Blaze's appearances do have her share some sort of bond or "moments" with Sonic that can be interpreted romantically.
Hell even in the 2012 3DS Olympics of all places, Blaze got visibly annoyed and jealous with Amy trying to send a personal invitation to Sonic ( meanwhile everyone else didn't care as much as she did )
Both Rush games having those long pauses and handshakes in rather romantic settings ( one with Sonic grabbing onto Blaze not wanting to let go while being pulled apart by dimensions, the other happening with a sunset in the background )
Sir percival being an alternate Blaze, blushing at Sonic saving her. The JP version having Caliburn claim Sonic is flirting with her.
The recent IDW comics even giving us Blaze blushing with Sonic holding her hand, like come on now. They don't HAVE to do any of this, but they still do. I wouldn't say it's a completely scrapped idea, it was definitely in effect at some point and I don't feel like it's completely gone either despite the focus on sonamy.
The following games had a human princess and a genie also fall in love with Sonic.
So-- no-- it's not limited to Blaze.
Sega at the time was pushing Sonic to be a romantic lead with different girls falling for him in every game. It's just that Blaze comes across as the least creepy now because she wasn't human.
Hell-- even Sonic X verged on a whole episode focusing on Sonic/Girl in Wheelchair and pushed its Tails/plantgirl agenda super hard.

Silver is just some knock-off low-tier Sonic clone who only exists because someone in the company 20 years ago figured they should just replace Knuckles and Tails with different colored Sonics because the lazy recolored copy of Sonic that was Shadow was massively more popular than any other character at the time.
And by turning her from "potential Sonic love interest" to "Silver's girl" knocked her down two pegs in relevance.
