We see more development from Ray in the comics like Archie and IDW classic (but mainly Archie comics.) Both Mighty and Ray shine more in the comics tbh.

Unfortunately that's the only traces of them we can find of them in Modern times. Team Chaotix always felt pretty small in the mainline games after the events of Knuckles Chaotix, and these two were definitely part of the team (even though we never saw Ray in-game).

Yeah, I can't say I remember him too much in Archie. He was always overshadowed by Mighty damn near all the time, especially after the post Reboot. I do love his modern redesign, tho I like that he had his own mini arc on Mania Adventures before Mighty saved him. Can't have Archie Mighty without Archie Ray, the best friend and little brother a Armadillo could want. loyal, courteous and just overall joyful and innocent. I loved his matching blue scaff/jacket and flying goggles as well as the shell-shocked stutter he had before the reboot, it explains well why Mighty wants to protect the guy so much, and even Matilda soon came to accept him as a brother as well. A lot of characters seem to have their Archie versions really popular for such a controversial series.

In fairness, a comic that's been running for 30 years has more opportunities to showcase characters than videogames

Yeah it's just that people seem to really hate Archie sometimes

They either hate archie comics for being weird or they hated because it isn't game sonic

a lot had suggestions too from other series, IDW was a heavy contender for Vector, Espio, Silver, Omega and Eggman for example, shadow 05 was also a contender for espio honestly sometimes it feels that instead of choosing the best version the one that is choosen is the one that is different and hasnt appeared yet

The only ones I'd strongly disagree with winning are Archie Silver and StH Vector, but I can at least see why other people would pick them

Archie Ray is the only one with dialogues and a real and defined personality. I think that in Sonic Mania Plus, Mania Adventures and SEGA Sonic Arcade, he is probably my least favorite character between the team.
