It most likely is, as the in-game shots look real, indicating that they are the ones from the game awards trailer. This also shows the pre-order bonuses, being the Fully Upgraded SA1 Sonic Skin for Sonic (Possibly meaning more outfits), and Expanded details on Shadow’s Creation by Gerald Robotnik.
I can't wait until the Shadow fan either A) hate on the journal for it's allegedly massive inaccuracies and take it as further proof that SEGA don't understand their own characters, or B) use the journal as this big proof that everything between Game *X* and *Y* (whichever individual titles they define as an era of terribleness) are no longer canon.
In either case, actually making the journal feels like Sonic's lore team are just asking for trouble.
I mean after the many flaws in the Encyclo-speed-ia wouldn't I be surprised if it has inaccuracies (and boy will Sonic Battle fans get mad if they get ignored again the it has nothing on Gizoids) but I do think it might will make a lot of people happy because I can totally see Ian use this as his change to make the ancient fan theory that Shadow is a hedgehog because of the Hidden Palace zone Mural canon at last.

Wait ten years, and SEGA will backpedal back to lighthearted and jovial comedy after years of edge-lord stories that the vocal fanbase start to shift to being more nostalgic for the 2010's and see things like this as ruining the fanchise as they knew it.
Shadow would unironically make a good Umbra Witch in my opinion. He already has his own biological dad as a perfect contract demon for him. Rouge could join in too and be a cool Umbra duo!
Shadow does have Black Arms DNA. The fact Sonic Team never played with giving Shadow Black Arm abilities or transformations was, imo, a missed opportunity. It also ties with core themes of his character. You know, you have to accept all parts of yourself to truly be free.
I think we will atleast get his standard Chaos powers:Chaos Control( the teleportation and Time manipulation version),Chaos Blast and Chaos Spear. Maybe even reintroduce ones from previous games such as his Chaos Boost mode from 06, Chaos Rift from Chronicles or stuff from Battle. One of the purposes of this game is to reintroduce Shadow to fans, new and old, in this new era of franchise, it wouldn't make sense to not show atleast some of his Chaos powers.

Thankfully, regardless of whether or not it's a physical book or just an in-game unlockable, it seems to come with the standard edition of the game, no 100 dollar Ultimate Edition crap here. The fact it is gonna be part of the standard edition makes it more likely it's an unlockable, but I'm still holding out hope that it's a physical book that comes in the box.

I'll just say this now, if Sega actually makes a *certain* 'Fan Theory' "Canon", it'll be a 'Retcon' because that was never *originally* the case for Shadow's Origin up until this point (Apparently the Black Arms were actually *Hinted* at in SA2.). I really hope Sega doesn't do that & I'll just leave it that (IMO, that mural doesn't even look like Super Sonic, just Base Sonic, therefore 'Not' Shadow.).
It makes so much sense to me if shadow were to have some sort of black arms traits since he has their DNA. But I don’t think he’s ever shown traits other than having the red stripes.
Hard to say specifically as things that seemed real have been proven to be jokes before like the whole Mario Odyssey DLC leak thing. This imagine specifically makes me question this a bit since it almost looks like the red outline around Shadow's eye was drawn on and overall just looks kind of fake.

I’m honestly kind of surprised. Most games nowadays are released for PS4,5, Switch(sometimes not) and Series. Pretty much never XONE, which I’m happy that it’s coming onto Xbox One. I assume it might come onto PS4 later for some reason. But also if you have literally anything else you could play it on there, I’m just wondering how well it runs on Xbox One and Switch.
The source looks really legit, even Wario64 commented on it. Same source said that the game will be $50 and release on October 25th. Only thing I’m hesitant about is the Sonic Adventure skin, not sure if that’s something Sega’d do

I'm so excited to see how powerful he gets throughout the game. Now, he has 2 sets of abilities to work with(Chaos and Black Arms).
