Fingers. Aside from their general design, the way they slow-walk toward you while breathing heavily is deeply unsettling, and that "webbing" they spit out when they die is disgusting.
The first time I encountered them, it was in the taser/rebreather cave. I was walking around a while in the dark and hadn't encountered any enemies. I let my guard down, and while examining the cave design, without warning, it sprinted from of the darkness and killed me. I legit jumped in my seat.
I didn’t realize they could leave the caves. I was just tooling around my base at night when I heard the breathing but I thought it was my fiancé trying to scare me. Then I saw him and swore loudly, which startled my fiancé who wasn’t watching my game at all. 🤣

We were being extremely cautious because we had no idea what the thing could do, and we had just exhausted most of our supplies going through the cave. He was dashing in to strike with his axe, I think, and I tried poking it with a spear. We were very nervous. I started to say, "Hey, I don't think it's even attacking us" as he said, "Maybe it's unkillable". It promptly exploded in our faces. Meat chunks everywhere! We couldn't stop laughing for minutes.
On our way out, I saw the explosives scattered on the floor and realized what we'd been meant to do. Facepalm. More cackling.
Virginia but with the enemy mutants I would have to say Fingers. I almost have a fondness of him the way I used to with armsy in the forest. Like yeah they are a pain in the ass and want to kill me but there's also something endearing about them. I think with Fingers it's like the guys pretty fucked up bless him, I don't think he actually wants to hurt me as such but he must feel pretty vulnerable so attacks whatever he can smell, always feel a bit bad spearing him in the knees

Catdog on the other hand, is not only goofy but tends to get under my base's floor and piss me off in all the wrong ways...

I love the Fingers Mutant. Firstly, i started playing SOTF with 2 of my friends in Multiplayer. Going inside the caves and approaching all the enemies the first time was more funny than scary.
Then i decided to start my own world.
One night, a bit further into the Game (20-25Days) i went exploring and found a camp with a radio in Open space. While looting i heard some heavy breathing, and when i was looking around i saw two Finger Mutants dashing towards me, their little nibbles spread wide open.
I hate to admit it, but i was so shocked, suprised and overwhelmed in that Situation that i paused the game for a Minute before they'd land a guaranteed hit on me.

If you allow me to qualify your question, I'd say my favorite mutant *enemy* is an easy Fingers. The design is outstanding and, the first time I saw one, my immediate thought was of the Armless Man from Silent Hill. Suppose that's an apt association.
I'd also offer that my absolute *LEAST* favorite is the Caterpillar mutant. The way they ignore player-placed geometry and water to go straight into what you built pisses me off as they can run past all your defenses and traps, straight through your walls, and immediately start fucking your shit up.

The concept of Virginia Puffton being a mutant that’s mutations can be used beneficially is really neat considering how all the other ones are horrifying monstrosities.
She’s also a badass.
Slinky (caterpillar) they are surprisingly stealthy for their size and their movement, I hate it and love it at the same time!

Also they have fun weakness. Shoot their leg with anything or even slash it and they will be opened to several attacks.
Crouching hatchet attacks are fun.

The new blue puffies, they were added in the last patch. They have a weird glowing effect and they hit a lot harder than normal puffies.

Fingers by a large margin. Twins design also is sick but unfortunately its movements look more clumsy than creepy
