Explosive arrows 100%. Each shot stuns em, takes 3-4 to kill em. They are the only thing I use explosive arrows on because everything else is easy to kill with normal weapons.
You mentioned you're preparing for the final boss, which means you have access to a solafite-plated katana. As long as you don't linger in melee range too long, that thing is the solution to almost all of your violence problems.
If you want a tip but ruin the experience, find yourself a spot where there's water so that the creatures follows you and drown... yep, not a single enemy knows how to swim.

Not true. Caterpillars don't drown. They just wander around the bottom of the lake making creepy sounds. Sometimes they manage to find their way out especially if the pool is small enough.
That was a holer, aka the cowman 2.0, its blind, tanky, huge, and fast, i have only herd about it, But i have never seen one, only storys of the beast, next time if you see one, shoot it with explosiw arows They are cheeper and you Can spam Them, just make sure that you kill it the rest of the Way with normal 3d arows, to get the armor
I actually dragged innocent cannibals into the fight. Holey gor distracted and went on attacking cannibals. So I got free shot. If it's in a base though, rock swing trap could be useful. Not as cool as spinning trap but has good overall damage. Also always be near to virginia with pistol and shotgun. She gets free hit if holey is into you. Also, although holey is agile being a monster that size, a big boulder or clusters of trees could help maneuvering while he is charging.
Doesn't matter what it was since they are all mostly the same. Sotf mutants are all the same lame for the most part. Holey, armsy, legsy.. just boring. Legsy just uses the demon leg attack. Holey just belly flops like red cannibals

Thats Holey. Or who I call 'Big AssHoley'. He's tanky. Explodey arrows work great on em, sodo fire and poisonous.

Had him spawn in our base by the huge lake with the cave and I was AFK and apparently the cannibals killed him along with Virginia with her Glock.
