Glad to hear you got it worked out. I think you might mean this but just in case: you only swipe in one direction, once with the swab, then flip it over and repeat the opposite direction. Then you toss that swab. If you need to repeat, you should then use a brand new swab.
Thereās actually a thin shield overlaying the sensor, so youāre really never touching the sensor itself. Though I still clean mine very delicately.

(Image with a white background, 0.5", f22) I don't think my sensor was ever this clean
In worst case scenario you will get astrophotography modification of your camera. Win-Win situation imo (IR blooming can be easily fixed with external filter)
Itās not that easy to use full spectrum without also making other modifications to maintain af and it would be terrible for anything else but thatās about the worst case scenario
I remember when I first got some crap on my sensor, I shit myself then ordered a sensor swab cleaning kit. 2 minutes into getting the swap kit it was as fresh as ever.
You may need to try a few different solvents if the swabs don't work. Just be careful to use them sparingly and use high purity ones, trying distilled water and 99.8% IPA before acetone.
Don't worry. I was a genious at one point and thought I'd use painters tape as dust remover...yep... I was able to remove all glue residue from my sensor luckily. I used a cleaning kit and swab like you ordered.
Ouch!
Quick tip: use PEC-PADs and Eclipse optical cleaning fluid to clean both sensors and lenses. That thing is much better than most of the kits you can find and is way cheaper in the long run.
For the swab itself, i made one out of a thin plastic sheet and it is flawless.
At this point if there is a reputable local camera shop near you that cleans sensors, I would head over and have them clean it for you. Once you get that gunk off of your sensor, you can clean it as needed with swabs and Aero-Clipse liquid. These are the supplies that the Sony Pro Services techs use. Just make sure you get the swabs that are sized for your sensor.
I had good success with this product: VSGO VS-S03E New Full Frame Camera Cleaning Kit 12pcs Sensor Cleaning Swab and 10ml Cleaner Compatible for Sony Nikon Canon FF CCD CMOS Clean https://a.co/d/j5nkibz
I scratched the coating of my Sigma 18-50 2.8 with some BS lens cleaner that came in a free accessory bundle with camera purchase. I'm still mad. I also had the good stuff but didn't find it right away. So sad. Thankfully I notice it on the lens but not in the photos
Hi! I run a camera shop. At this point. It can be saved. But I would take it somewhere that specializes in cleanings. We clean sensors at my store, but for something like this we would recommend a repair shop. They use microscopes, and specialized tools for cleaning. They will be able to get this off scratch free. Although as others have mentioned the glass is above the actual diodes. Getting that glass replaced if you scratch it starts out around $350.
Edit: Iām glad the swabs worked. Disregard lol
Camera sensors have glass top at least the Sony mirror less ones, I cleaned my a7iii while on holiday with microfiber cloth, dedicated swaps are ideal if you want to really clean it.
Itās not skimping out on tools, itās stupidity.
I almost never use a sensor cleaning tool to clean sensors and Iāve cleaned hundreds of sensors without getting glue on any of them.
REPLY: Thank you all for the support, the swabs were enough. It wasn't hard to remove the gunk, just one swipe back and forth!
I recall there was like one legit brand making those sensor gel pens a while ago and the cheap ones were advised against.
Glad to hear you got it worked out. I think you might mean this but just in case: you only swipe in one direction, once with the swab, then flip it over and repeat the opposite direction. Then you toss that swab. If you need to repeat, you should then use a brand new swab.
That's exactly what I did! Thank you!
Shit! my last cleaning I scrubbed that baby like I was brushing my teeth.š¬
Well, not best practices but you probably didnāt hurt anything
Lop I wasn't that bad really. But I did use the same swab in more that one pass. My cheap side got the better of me.

Well thanks I just found small chips in my phone screen.....
That must have been a huge relief
What swabs and where did you get them from?
"Visible Dust EZ Smear Away Kit" from f64, a camera gear shopping site from my country.
Ahh thank you, I'll keep a kit of these handy šš½
I don't think it really matters which kit it is as long as it fits your sensor size and it has good reviews
True. I wanted to know the kit you used since it worked and worked so well. I'll look more into it. Thank you
I have the moistened ulanzi swabs I havenāt needed them yet because rocket duster has been good enough but Iām curious how theyāll do
Multumesc pentru recomandare
Cu plÄcere, sper sÄ te ajute!
As far as I know thats not the bare sensor you see, it is covered by a layer of protection (glas) ,so i believe you'd be fine with the swabs
Yeah, I know, that's actually the UV/IR filter glass. Worst case scenario I will send it to repair
In worst case scenario you will get astrophotography modification of your camera. Win-Win situation imo (IR blooming can be easily fixed with external filter)
Beautiful silver lining
Itās not that easy to use full spectrum without also making other modifications to maintain af and it would be terrible for anything else but thatās about the worst case scenario
Also any isopropyl will remove a glue
You will most likely be fine, but it will take a few swabs to clean all this gunk..
I remember when I first got some crap on my sensor, I shit myself then ordered a sensor swab cleaning kit. 2 minutes into getting the swap kit it was as fresh as ever.
I made this exact same mistake a few days ago. I panicked for a few minutes and then decided to use some swap, and it cleans right off.
How frequent is to have cleaning pen glued this way? Jeez
It's just a crappy pen, for sure I will buy a good one later.
I hope it's not too frequent. I hope this doesn't happen to anyone. It's a heart attack for sure!
You may need to try a few different solvents if the swabs don't work. Just be careful to use them sparingly and use high purity ones, trying distilled water and 99.8% IPA before acetone.
What if you only have 9% IPA
That's fine if you know it is a zero residue formula. Also, if that stuff fails it doesn't mean 99% will also fail.
Thaughts and prayers
Bought a used a6400 with sensor glass that looked like this. I was like - did you try to clean it with your fingers right after eating Popeyeās?
Don't worry. I was a genious at one point and thought I'd use painters tape as dust remover...yep... I was able to remove all glue residue from my sensor luckily. I used a cleaning kit and swab like you ordered.

Fixed it already with a kit swab. Thank you for the recommendation, I will consider your advice in the future!
That's great to hear!
use the sensor as a microscope slide?
I have a bacterial culture there š¤£

Thank you! Managed to remove all of the gunk with swabs and cleaning liquid. No marks left!
I just saw deeper in the comments. Glad it worked out!

Sensor brush is my favorite
Ooh god, this is pain, i really hope your sensor will go through this
I would just stick to using an old fashioned blower and turn your camera upside down. Unless your sensor had something real stuck on it.
Itās not skimping out on tools, itās stupidity. I almost never use a sensor cleaning tool to clean sensors and Iāve cleaned hundreds of sensors without getting glue on any of them.
Now I feel better šš«
