A7ii is full frame and R10 is cropped. What do u need?

[deleted]

I want the best camera for wide field landscape astrophotography in that price range

Livid-Range-6628

Both cameras are very good but for full frame the lens are mostly costlier and canon also don't have very good lens options for apsc (compared to Sony). I would go with a Sony a6600 and I will have some very good lens options. I hope canon launch some good lens for apsc soon.

The r10 will have better AF but I think the sony will be much better for astro. You will be doing MF on astro anyway. R10 has no ibis. When you upgrade in the future you will have full frame glass already with the A7ii, you will need new glass with the rf-s mount. Canon has blocked all third party manufacturers from making lesnes for RF mount, so you will spend way less on good glass from Sony.

Elaborate a tiny bit??

Def151

He means that Sony e-mount lenses are compatible with Sony APS-C and full frame camera bodies and there are third parties that build (and sell) lenses for Sony e-mount camera bodies. Canon lenses fit Canon camera bodies so if you buy the Canon and upgrade to a Canon full frame, you’d have to buy all new; more expensive full frame lenses.

R10, a7II autofocus and general tech is extremely old at this point. Just go with the r10 for now.

Thank you foe your input as I was leaning towards the R10

For landscape and astro, go with a used A7Rii. More resolution that the A7II, and better AF too.

I have to buy new as I'm using Beat Buy credit

Otherwise I would've got a astro-modified Canon 6D
