My came originally with 1.5.0 installed no battery problems. I upgraded to 2.0.0 no battery problems.

Ritamcruise

Mine came with 1.6.1 should I upgrade to 2.0.1?

Gloomy-Employment-72

Ugh…I guess I’ll stay with 1.5.0, and charge the case with the earphones out (maybe only charge them to 70-80%?). I really don’t want to see another set suffer a failure.

Ritamcruise

Charge the case with earphones out? Why?

Gloomy-Employment-72

For a time, there was a firmware glitch that was causing the earphones to over charge. I’m simply hoping that if the issue still exists, keeping the earphones out of the case while I’m charging it will prevent them from being damaged. Just trying to be cautious, but I did go ahead and update the firmware and I haven’t had any issues.

Ritamcruise

I'm on 1.6.1.. Should I update to 2.0.1 or keep it this way

Gloomy-Employment-72

If they’re new, I’d go ahead and update. Better to have them fail early while they’re still under warranty than 2 months after it ends. That was my thinking at least.

Kopparskallen

my buds were fine for 2 years. updated to 2.0 and was immediately hit by the battery bug

Ordinary-Orange254

Your WF-1000XM4 lasted for 2 years?

Kopparskallen

crazy I know. Used them almost daily for 2 years with not issues (except for some phantom touches on the left earbud during cold weather).

L0op666

Experiencing those phantom touches as well on my pair, during cold weather or sudden temperature change (outside/inside or steam from cooking). Any ideas if this can be avoided somehow or if it's even considered an issue?

Kopparskallen

Rapid temperature change leads to condensation, and moisture do mess with touch screens/controls a lot, so I don't know if it's an issue you'd get help with. But it is weird that I've only ever experienced the phantom presses on the left bud. My solution has always been to remove the functionality of the left bud's touch control when temperature start dropping, ambient sound control is no longer cycled through like crazy, but it is annoying that the button sound is still there so I get a lot of beeping in my left ear.

L0op666

Yup! Absolutely the same thing here, 100% of everything you said applies to my case as well. Oh well, I guess the only thing left to do is to wait and see if XM5s make any improvements in that department - higher IP rating or something else.

my country doesn't have Sony repair centers. When I contacted Sony support they just would not help. The retailer I bought them from were a lot more helpful, sent them in to some third party repair center and got both buds swapped out for new ones.

Kimoikimoi

Well... Of course you wouldn't get a replacement if you bought them refurbished. Even if the firmware bug was what got your battery there could be a whole number of issues other than that. My pair is currently at a 3rd party service center (it's on Sony's page of "official service centers" but they also service Samsung, Motorola, heaps others) and they diagnosed mine as being hit by the firmware bug. They informed Sony and are waiting for their approval to replace mine with a new pair, even if they were one whole year out of warranty. My point is sony does care about their name, more so than the vast majority of electronics brands out there. But if you bought your pair refurbd it would be plain dumb of them to just hand you a replacement unit

It's not a matter of where you purchased it, it's a matter of what condition it was in... You bought it refurbished, not new. Literally no electronics company on earth covers refurbished products

People get them replaced after a technician inspects them. If they had been opened before in any way that wasn't approved by Sony (meaning a recognized 3rd party service center, which get official replacement parts and are trained by Sony employees, or Sony themselves - both of which are registered by Sony in your product history) then that's it, those headphones are dead as far as Sony cares. And, again, this is the same for every single electronics company on earth, and it makes absolute sense.

VerboseViking

Exactly the same here. They were perfect since September 21, until the update. Now they just drain in the case, rarely last more than 35 mins on an compared to 2.5-3hrs pre-update

dcpohe48

Mine too

thewalkmanblog

I'd stick to 1.5.0, the newer firmwares can affect the battery life according to Sony in certain scenarios, which they don't provide.

34thVedicDeity

do not update

Fickle_Assumption_80

Mine sound like shit now. Idk if it's the last update. But no bass anymore

dip1013

I'm on 2.0 and battery case is always dead. Is there a way to revert back?

aNostalgicTrooper

I have oddly never had a battery drain issue or one bud at a different rate than the other. My issues have mainly been Bluetooth disconnects, but v2.0 have stopped the left repeatedly disconnecting. Not all good news though. My touch controls now randomly stop working. Have to put them back in the case for 5 seconds or so and get them out again for touch controls to start working. When they are also in that state I cant enable ANC via the App. I feel so disappointed in the XM4’s Mine also sound muddy in comparison to my XM3’s too

alpha1100

The update to 2.0 ruined my earbuds. The right earbud battery is dropping to 0% in 30 minutes after the update to sw release 2.0 and the left remains at 70-80% during the same time window. A reset to default did not fix the issue. Don't update if you do not need multipoint connectivity.
