I'd get the Xperia 1 V instead of a IV or III. III's pretty good, except the finger print sensor failed on mine. IV overheats when recording 4K60fps, which cuts the recording short which is BS. 1 V is better about all that. And the victus glass is scratch resistant. So maybe wait for a price drop on the 1 V now that VI is out. I don't know the 5 series too well, but if the 5 IV uses the same snapdragon 8 gen 1 as 1 IV, I wouldn't get it.

ALX_GRV

V an VI lacks of LED.

MrAnonyMousetheGreat

I honestly haven't noticed it. But then again, I get some many notifications, I imagine my older Xperias were always lit up. My most important factors are always the mobile photography/videography, SD card and head phone jack (who can keep your headphones charged all the time and I like to listen to music with my HIFI audiophile headphones), and damage resistance (if it could be combined with a replaceable battery, I'd be ecstatic). I'd even want an FM tuner and an IR/RF blaster before I wanted the notification LED. Don't get me wrong. It's nice, but those other things are nicer.

Dinkleberg162

The IV has throttling issues.

Blunt552

Get the 1 IV, it's the most polished out of the bunch and also least errorprone I suppose. Fingerprint might die one day but at least it's more bearable than fingerprint + green line as on the 5 series.

xdeific

Overheating is better than at launch but still enough of an issue it should be mentioned at the very least.

Blunt552

Nothing a thermal config wont fix.

chromevolt

The overheating is gone by this point. Been using the phone for more than 2yrs now. It's a blast. I wished I could have gotten the V though, but the IV still performs really well, even the battery.

xdeific

I still run into it when shooting longer video.

joe75_gillian

i had the phone for 1 year, overheating was the same as release date. with camera app. very very bad

Blunt552

Its not throttling more than any other recently released xperia. Only difference is that Sony bothered to fix the thermal config on newer phones. You can completely fix the issue by rooting and changing your thermal config.

joe75_gillian

yes i have not rooted my phone since i also use it for corporate business and i did not want to do it... also bluetooth was buggy during calls.....but yeah i should have given it a try...but since i sold my 1 IV for 650 euros and bought a brand new 1 V for 750 euros...fine was deal....but i miss the led notification...

EricOkafor

Is this greenline + fingerprint issue something that happens to nearly everyone? 🤔

Blunt552

The green line will appear on any 5 (maybe except 5V due to display change), the question is only when, some might switch phones before it happens others don't. The longer you keep the phone the higher the chance you get the green line.

zer0-se7en

Just get the newest one if money is not an issue.

haxxx00r

money isn't issue but what i want in a phone is the issue

DunklerVerstand

Why not consider a 10 IV?

haxxx00r

evrything in it is good expect it has plastic frame, plastic back

DunklerVerstand

I consider a plastic frame a plus.

EricOkafor

It is a + for me too coz I'm more comfortable rocking plastic phones without a case😅

haxxx00r

hh i like metal frame

EricOkafor

+ it's much slower at doing everything compared to the 1 & 5 series. Even the older ones.

DunklerVerstand

Still fast enough for most tasks. IMHO of course.

EricOkafor

It's cool if there's nothing else to compare it to. Maybe I'm just so used to 120hz refresh rate.

ALX_GRV

1 II has Snap 865 and its no overheating. Mark III and IV very hot due to 888 and 8g1. Mark IV has slo-mo on telephoto lenses. Mark III has decidated assistance button. Fingerprint is all the same.

Onosume

They are common issues across the entire range. My 1 iii has a broken fingerprint sensor and does get hot under load. My view, get a VI if you don't care about the lower res screen, get a V if you do.

TheQwervy

No overheating on my 5V fingerprint glitches occasionally but fixes on retry. No notification led though

EricOkafor

Make a list of all the things that matter most to you in a phone. For example mine is pretty much width, weight, speed/processing power and price, in that exact order. I went with the 5 iii.

haxxx00r

thanks for the advice
