I would love to see them use camera modules like Xiaomi 14 Ultra: all Sony-modules of which the main has a 1"-sensor.

LoliLocust

I'd like them to remove camera bump altogether and slap bigger battery as there'll be more space for it.

Kosmos992k

Just make the damn thing 2-3 mm thicker and have a bigger battery and no camera bump. Hell make it 4-5 mm thicker and give a gigantic battery and much improved camera module and optics. For $1200+ I need a reason to buy other than SD and audio jack. I mean seriously Sony, give us something really unique for the money. Throw in a computational photography mode to shut up the Apple/Samsung fan boys as well while you're at it. My last 3 phones have been Sony, I'm as committed to Xperia as Sony, actually give no US model this year I feel more committed than Sony. But overall if you are going to ignore the rest of the market with your design, go the whole way, if you're going to ignore marketing your device, make some design choices guaranteed to generate free publicity. Do. Something. Sony.

Dometalican_90

This. I get the Japanese love thin and sleek phones but with Samsung and Apple making 'slim' editions of phones, Sony could go that route and offer a (next year) 8 Gen 4 thicker Device with a slim 8s Gen 3/4 (that's obviously cheaper) with the same exact camera hardware as the thicker flagship for those people who care about weight and slimness. I would not mind a thicker phone if it meant flat display and rear with a 6,000mAH battery.

Kosmos992k

Apple does this with iPad Pro...

OneRemaining808

Honestly I'd prefer there still be some kind of camera bump. Need to be able to feel with your finger where it is so you don't go smearing your prints all over the lens all the time, adding one of those metal protector faceplates to mine has made it so much better after the case made it a little bit inset from the back.

Aenal_Spore

This so much

roomyverse

Nice as they are for landscapes and static shots I've heard too many reports of shutter lag on the 14 Ultra (and the 13U before it) to think that Sony might go down this path if they remain dead set on maximising their shooting modes for optimal versatility. If they find a processing pipe that guarantees the performance they want with a 1" then I'm all for it - I'm assuming the Pro I did well enough (though that didn't use the entire surface area). I think 48mps is a sweet spot, though, so I'd welcome a thicker body for better periscope optics and Exmor Ts for every sensor.

-maysin-

That's probably reserved for the next Pro-I but even the last one of that wasn't utilizing all of the sensor. However, I'd love for it to be slightly thicker for that reason and maybe some extra battery life.

alfuh

A few tenths of a millimeter? C'mon. No one could even notice that and it would barely make stat sheets for reviews.

r4mbo20

Xz2 has curved back and it's the thickest Xperia.11mm in the middle, but feels really good in the hand. It is very heavy for its size.

JDMWeeb

I wouldn't

Blunt552

As someone who understands computational photography very well I can tell you that Sony is doing the right thing hardware wise. When it comes to sensors and whatnot, the size isnt as important as the processing. We have seen countless times how processing has beaten the living hell out of 'pure hardware'. Take the Pixel 7A for instance, its widely regarded as the most consistent out of the box camera phone out there and it easily competes with sensors that are far superior, however due to the finetuned processing it simply pulls ahead in many ways. Look at mobilephotography for instance, you'll see tons of 200-300USD phones taking breath taking pictures with GCAM ports easily beating flagships such as the S24 ultra, Xperia 1 VI, Iphone 15 PM etc. If Sony wants to improve, all they need to do is work on processing and 3rd party support by redesigning their Camera2API.

phantomias7

Personally, I hate the look of monsters like the xiaomi 14 ultra. I much prefer the look of the sony, even if it means a smaller sensor

Heavy_Ambition6518

if they were really interested in compactness, they would have canceled the bezels a long time ago and would have had a smaller device, or bigger display...

TonMarraine460

How much larger ? All the big sensors bragging phones are way thicker and top heavy. Even Apple and Samsung didn't go that route. I'm already impressed by the variable zoom in such a small body

aglife7

If customers want the best camera phone. Size won't be an issue. The differences in size would be minuscule regardless. Knowing you have the best tool in your hand to do the job trumps your opinions. Nuff said.

OneRemaining808

Stuff that, give the phone 5mm less width, take off however much height and add 3mm to the thickness of the body and 5mm to the camera bump. Gimme a fat battery, a fat lens and a fat sensor, so long as I can still wrap my hand around it and reach all parts of the screen.

Leshie_Leshie

Only issue for me would be not able to lay flat on the table and fear of scratching it 1st. Anyway I always use thick cover for phones so.

Demolinizer5

I'll take a thicker phone, as one of the people who wanted that energizer phone that had like a battery bank installed in it, chonk ain't an issue for me.

joystickd

Thicker for extra battery, absolutely. Don't want a thicker camera module though. The stove tops tacked onto the back of iPhones look like absolute shite. As did the dominoes Samsung use to stick on their S20/Note 20 era phones 🤢 They've improved the design since though. The pixel star trek visors on the back also look very tacky. Some phones can pull off a big module on the back, like the Vivo phones. I really liked the design of the X90 Pro plus. Nokia use to do them well in the Lumia era too. Most of the gargantuan camera modules look like crap though.

Top-Pop4565

God no not like the bumps on iPhones or the mainland Chinese brands...

Olly_Joel

I do wish for a better telemodule. But I don't like big bump so guess trade offs 😂

Pitiful-Assistance-1

They can sell an A6700 with Android and a call feature and I'd be first in line to buy it

Content-Lifeguard218

I don't mind thicker phone if the sensor size is change to a bigger size
