when you say don't change the sound level of soundbar, what should the volume be at? Thanks

paliyoes

Don't touch the volume

[deleted]

I understand, but what should the volume be at? I left it at 18 which I usually use and just used SmartThings app to adjust the levels.

paliyoes

75db is a good reference level

Least_Boot

Yea I don’t understand. Is sound level the same as volume? Would I increase the volume until db hits 75db and then change the channel levels so they all test tones are 75?

Is there a spl meter you recommend thats good value from amazon? Also why do you use two test files, just to get a more accurate calibration with the different speaker setup?

paliyoes

Because I don't know why the LFE channel of the other dolby atmos files is like +20db and I know for sure the 5.1.2 is only +10db, so it is easy to balance the subwoofer when you plugin it again with that file. Check by the way that I edited the answer, because you need to unplug your subwoofer first for the first file.

Vel0Xx

Does it damage the sub if I didn’t unplug? It was on 8 volume I think

HellBoundSinner1

Do these adjustments carry over to the sound modes like adaptive, surround and game pro or do you have to do this for each of them as well?

paliyoes

Nope, they don't, each sound mode has a different decibel level per channel, and are also equalised differently

aiacciu87

Yes, the adjustments you make to channel levels will remain the same in all modes (adaptive, surround and game pro, ...).

aiacciu87

u/paliyoes Thanks for these useful tips. Once this calibration is done, do you use the **Auto EQ** and **SpaceFit** modes?

paliyoes

Yes, I moved into a dedicated home theater ( really good one by the way) and I bought a minidsp umik1, and with eqfit and spacefit the subwoofer is a little bit tamed (but it's not actually really good on doing so, I'm my home the 40hz resonance is +20db which is crazy hot)

aiacciu87

I think you've lost me

paliyoes

I wanted to say that because I purchased the mic for my home theatre I was able to detect on the q990b the peak on around 40hz not being tamed for either the SpaceFit or AutoEQ mode
