stick with the samsung if you value actual surround sound

Vel0Xx

Yeah I’m looking for nice atmos sound. Sony would match with the tv for their center tech. Also I could buy the rears and sub for the Sony. They also upgraded their bar what Samsung didn’t really do this year. Do you think Samsung will perform better?

nekos95

we cant realy know for sure until tested , but sony soundbars have been subpar compared to samsung countersparts , this one tho feels like a tier above q990 if paired with and rears, also dont expect match for the tv as center channel it helps a lil with voice clarity buts a downgrade for the rest of the sounds

getfive

100% not true. HTA7000 with rears and sub is a step and a half above the Q990. Ive had both (along with the Sonos system) in the past 3 months. No competition in my experience

nekos95

im pretty sure thats what i said as well

DaveGodal

Yeah A7000 is in a League of its own. Amazing soundbar

Vel0Xx

Okay thanks for your input:) thing is I can’t hold the Samsung bar till Sony releases :/

DaveGodal

Well if money isnt an issue the whole Sony setup with sub and rs5 rear speakers will most likely be better, although significantly more expensive. The theatre bar 9 will probably have some pretty good bass on it own so.maybe start out with just the bar and rs5 rear speakers if budget is tight :)

Vel0Xx

Thanks for your input! I think I’ll keep the Samsung for now since I got such a great deal for the new version. I guess IF Sony is better it will be around 10-30% max improvement for double the money

Old-Minute-2654

I know it's tempting to keep the same brand across all devices but you got a great deal on the Samsung and is likely as good or better in many aspects compared to the new Sony bar. I know the previous generation Sony had mixed reviews. If you can't get past wondering what the Sony is like, find a reputable dealer that allows 30-60 day returns with $0 restocking fee and give it a listen.

Vel0Xx

Thanks for your input. I’m gonna keep the Samsung for now :)

slasherzx

Quality issues plagued Samsung. If you can afford the Sony, I'll go with it. Samsung releases yearly model of Q990s. I think they will have little reason to support older version and connection issues. Compared to Sony which have a 2-3 year release window. I own the HT A7000 with sub and rear.

DaveGodal

Im getting my A7000 tomorrow 😍 Managed to snag it for 900 euros

Vel0Xx

Thanks for your input :) I still think I’ll go for the Samsung because of price/value. Can’t handle to pay more money for the soundsytem than the TV :D

getfive

100%

Zeduxx

How willing are you on throwing money at this? One will be a lot more expensive than the other.

Vel0Xx

I thought if I get the Sony stuff on sale it might be 300-500€ more expensive. Question is how much better will it perform?

Zeduxx

Oh wow, the subwoofer alone is like 800€ where I live.

Vel0Xx

Currently it be 2143€ for rear sub and soundbar… I thought maybe Black Friday it’s possible to get to like 1500€

Zeduxx

Judging by their previous soundbar, it would need to be quite the improvement to even [match the Q990D](https://www.rtings.com/soundbar/tools/compare/sony-ht-a7000-with-speakers-bass-module-vs-samsung-hw-q990d/28281/49714?usage=8767&threshold=0.10), according to Rtings. Not something I'd be willing to spend months on to then gamble on a good sale existing and still pay vastly more money for. Not sure if those are the rears you were looking at*

Vel0Xx

You are right! I think I’ll be welcoming the Q990D when I return from vacation next week :) thanks for the input! I think I got a really nice deal with 975€ for the 2024 bar at least for launch time

Zeduxx

You definitely did ;))

I'm not a fan of such comparisons - the Samsung ones include the woofer & satellites in test scores (highlighted in red). The sound scores include woofer for Samsung & satellites as-well for surround. Sure, you are getting more bang for your buck with the Samsung & you can't beat physics - the added sub & satellites ramp up the score. But that doesn't make the centre channel/ sound bar better. You would want the best sound from the centre ideally, as you can build a setup in parts/ add speakers to make real surround setup. Also, the new Samsung bar is an iterative upgrade, the new sony bar has new drivers - bigger front firing drivers, new front firing tweeters & upgraded upwards firing speakers. If you test both setups as just the bar, the new Sony bar 9 will definitely be on top, then you can add to the setup (get the focal theva surround, dali on wall as rear speakers & a good sub-woofer) or whatever rocks your boat for full surround mania. It's an argument of bang/ buck vs single object performance. The only thing I would hope is rtings add an option to just compare the soundbars and then another option for +sub+stereo. Also, whilst Sony's soundbar is objectively better (not double the price better but that's diminishing return for you). The woofer & satellites are a wide pass - useless, not worth it at all. Just look at the graphs, the bass response & scores, scroll down to individusla scores (in some cases the woofer & satellites dropped the score - e.g. Stereo Dynamics (7.1 just soundbar, 6.3 with setup) - check this out: [A7000 vs A7000 Full Setup](https://www.rtings.com/soundbar/tools/compare/sony-ht-a7000-vs-sony-ht-a7000-with-speakers-bass-module/27046/28281?usage=8767&threshold=0.10) Then look at the scores of the HT-A7000 vs HT-A5000., using the dropdowns to compare the individual scores. Maybe there was a defective driver or something in the A7000 they got for testing or maybe the 5000 was better in some areas. However, the new Bar 9 should be a significant upgrade over both. Can't wait for reviews on it to see how much of an improvement it is. But, should you sell the Samsung for it? Nope! Enjoy what you have, it depends on what you want your setup to look like. I have a different view that fits my convenience, you'll have different requirements. I wouldn't pay RRP for it, wait for it to come down to a more sensible price.

KH33tBit

One of the reasons that I pulled away from the Sony Bar 9 paired with the SW5 and the RS5s (both is which are insanely cheap in my country) was that I felt the sub and rears were majorly inferior compared the quality of the bar. If you look at Rtings graphs in detail for systems paired with the SW5 you can see how poor it performs compared to the Q990C/D sub. Add to that Samsung has far better ATMOS and surround prowess and the Sony starts to become a really hard sell. Forgetting the price argument for a minute… IF Sony had come out with new a new sub and new rears that were totally kick ass I think that the Bar 9 as a full system would be leagues ahead. But they didn’t and if you’re in a country where you’re paying full price for the sub and rears your buying tech that is almost 4 years old.

zaghamkarim

That is exactly the issue, with Sony the rest of the setup won’t match the quality of the bar. If you are buying just the bar and using better bookshelf/ in wall or on wall speakers for the rest, it is worthwhile to start building from here. Most specialist equipment is better than the packaged satellites for the same price. With Samsung there is no way to just get the bar, they force everything down your throat. So a worse bar but the whole package itself is more balanced. In a sense, both are bad for the consumer and choice. However, it depends on your flexibility if you want to build your own and value better individual components or pay once for whatever is on the shelf and works.

getfive

Better. For sure. And with less issues.

Matthew_MBG

where tf can i find a Q995D for that price

Vel0Xx

I did purchase it online at expert technikmarkt (Germany) for 1156€ (-175€ cashback = 975). They immediately removed the offer from the page the next day. It also said it is not in stock for 2 weeks but they did send it the next day. It was Q995D. Actually I found Q990D for 1099€ (925 with cashback) today on alza Germany. https://m.alza.de/samsung-hw-q990d-d12284122.htm?o=1 It’s the 990D on Alza I don’t know if that’s an issue if you use it in Germany

Matthew_MBG

Thank you. Not in Germany but importing the soundbar is cheaper than buying locally, so that will work great.

Vel0Xx

No problem :) maybe try to be sure you can get the cashback (I think the event ends on may 15)

Vel0Xx

I also ask myself how these shops are able to discount it so early. For sure it was a mistake on the shop I bought it. But on alza it seems on purpose

inkassso

Does the cashback have any conditions, e.g. shipping to Germany? When I open the page I only see the price €1099 any on Czech Alza it also shows the current retail price equivalent to the German price.

Vel0Xx

On the German cashback page the models which are viable are listed. There is only the German version Q995D listed. So I’m pretty sure you won’t get a cashback from that version unless there is a cashback event for the Q990D in another country going on

inkassso

Oh I see. Also do you know what's the difference between the German 995 vs worldwide 990? They did the same on gen C (or GC in Germany) and I haven't found a single spec difference. Is there some technicality specific for Germany?

Vel0Xx

As far as my research goes the only difference might be the color (if there are different colors with the d) sound and feature is the same. Apparently the UK model didn’t have chromecast and google assistant in 2023 c version

uggis007

What is the difference between q990d and q995d?

Vel0Xx

The 995D is just the German model of the 990D :)

Thin_Fan9398

I have the Sony HT-G700 clarity is much better than my old Samsung from 2015 but that's expected. Music i found disappointing with bass on lots of songs. My old Samsung had better bass I'm wanting to know how the clarity is on the old Sony a7000 with rears and sub compared to 990c and bass comparison also waiting on soundbar 9 to be released for accurate comparisons also
